Deby's Guide to Backgrounds

This is a basic guide to making backgrounds on the program "Paint". So, let's get started!

The first thing you need to do is open up the program "Paint" by clicking on the little green button at the bottom of your screen.

------Next Step------

Then click on the "Paint" option. That will open up the program.

------Next Step------

(Note: if you already know how to change the size of your workspace, skip this and the next step.)

Next, we have to change the size of your workspace. Click on the button that says "Image" at the top of your screen. Then click "Attributes".

------Next Step------

A box should have appeared that says "Width" and "Height". Below that are some choices for units. Make sure the "Pixels" choice has been marked. Now, put in "350" for each the Width and the Height. Or if you want it a little smaller, put in "300" for both.

------Next Step------

(Note: if you already have a picture in mind, go to that picture and skip this and the next 2 steps.)

Now it's time to find a picture you want. Open up the internet and go to neopets.com. Use the search box on the sidebar to enter a word that is in the picture you want, such as "Fire".

------Next Step------

Then a page with pictures with links will appear.

------Next Step------

Click on a picture you want to use in your background. Then a page describing that item will appear.

------Next Step------

Scroll your mouse over the picture and press the right mouse button. A list should pop up. Click on "copy image".

------Next Step------

Now open the "Paint" -blocked- Go to the "Edit" button at the top of the screen, then press "Paste".

------Next Step------

Your picture should have appeared in the upper left corner of your workspace with a dashed box around it. Move the box to the center of your workspace.

------Next Step------

(Note: if you do not want to color in the white part of your picture, skip this and the next step.)

Now click on the little pouring bucket from your tool bar on the left side of your screen.

------Next Step------

Next, click on a color from the color pallette at the bottom of your page. This is the color you will make the white part of your picture. Now click on any spot of the white part of your picture. The white part should have turned the color you chose from the pallette.

------Next Step------

Now it's time to save your picture. Click on the "File" button at the top of your page. Then click "Save As...". DO NOT NAME AND SAVE THE PICTURE YET!!! READ THE NEXT STEP FIRST!!!

------Next Step------

A box should have popped up that says "File name:" and "Save as type:". Type in whatever you want your background to be called in the "File name" space. DON'T PRESS SAVE YET!!! Now click on the little arrow on the small box next to where it says "Save as type". Choose the option that says "PNG (*.PNG)", then press "save".

------Next Step------

You're finally done with the "Paint" program! Yay! Now it's time to upload your picture. Open up the Internet again, and go to photobucket.com. If you don't already have an account, create one now. If you do have an account, login and go to your album.

------Next Step------

(Note: if you already know how to upload pictures onto photobucket, skip this and the next step.)

Now, once you've gone to your album, go to the box that says "Upload Images & Videos". There is a small blank box with a button next to it that says "Browse". Click on that button.

------Next Step------

A box should pop up. Find your picture, click on it, then press the "Open" button. Now press the "Upload" button below the box.

------Next Step------

On the next page that appears it should say "Images Uploaded!" at the top of your screen in a yellow box. Now scroll down the page until you see a very small picture of your background. There should be 3 boxes with writing in each of them. They should say "Url", "Tag", and "Img". You will only be using the bit that says "Url".

------Next Step------

Next, copy and paste this code into the place you want your background to be (shop, lookup, pet lookup, etc...). Just replace "URL" with the actual Url from your picture.

Congratulations! You have just made your own background! If you have any questions or comments, neomail weird_1992.

------Link Back------

You don't have to link back to me, but if you'd like to, I've made some buttons you can use. I'll try to make more soon. If you would like a special one made for you, just neomail me on the account, weird_1992. Enjoy!

Remember, Neopets has no connection at all with photobucket, and neither do I. It's just a free image hosting site that I find useful. I've never had any problems with photobucket. I'm pretty sure that it doesn't carry any viruses or spyware.
