Everyone has come across the Food Club in Krawk Island a few times, right? It is a great way to earn money quickly, and, if you're lucky enough, a trophy at the same time. But what exactly is Food Club? Well, this page is designed to introduce you to Neopia's coolest game, and give you some hints and tips that might help you earn a shiny trophy :-)
Food Club is an eating competition, held daily (usually at 2PM NST), in which a bunch of pirates compete to see who can down a menu of all sorts of food the quickest. Your job is to bet on who you think will emerge the victor. Each round consists of five matches, with four pirates in each match. The pirates have to eat a course of ten different foods, but here's the catch: the pirates all have different tastes. They all have favourite foods and they all have allergies. So, if a pirate is allergic to meats and the menu is pro-meat, he will not have a strong chance of winning. However, if a pirate favours slushies and there are many slushies on the menu, he will have a good chance of coming up trumps. Get it?
In all, there are forty different foods served up to twenty different pirates. Here is a profile of each, starting with the pirates:

OK, so now you know all about the pirates and the foods, but how do you win NP through Food Club? Well, betting on the pirates you think will win is the way. Each pirate is allocated odds for the round, according to how much chance they have at winning. The odds may fluctuate throughout the day, but very rarely. Your returns depend on the odds of your bet. For example, if you put 500NP on a pirate at 2:1, and he won, you would recieve 1,000NP, for an overall profit of 500NP. Similarly, if you placed 2,839NP on a pirate at 9:1, you would recieve 25,551NP, for a profit of 22,712NP. Easy, huh? As with games such as Grarrl Keno, you can bet a maximum of 50NP, plus 2NP for each day you have been playing Neopets. This is why a lot of older accounts feature at the top of the high score table, because they can bet higher amounts to recieve bigger windfalls. The Food Club High Scores, by the way, are determined by the highest amount of NP won by a player. So, if you see someone at the top of the table with a score of 600,000, that means they collected a return of 600,000NP! Click here to see the current high scores. You can place single bets, or multiple bets that lengthen the odds to maximise the payout. For example, if you like a pirate at 2:1 and one in another round at 3:1, you can combine the bets for a 6:1 payout. If you want, you can place a bet in all five rounds for a huuuuuge return. The restrictions on betting are that you cannot place the same bet twice, and you can place a maximum of ten bets per day. A bit of Food Club trivia: If you were to place a bet in each match on a random pirate, you would have a 1 in 1024 chance of winning all five!
So who exactly should you bet on? Well, no pirate will win or lose every time. If you just look at their history and bet based on that, you will most likely lose your NP quicker than you can say 'Eat Faster!'. Before betting, you should look at the pirates' odds, and the courses being served up. Write down how many of their favourite foods, and how many they are allergic to, are featured on the menu in each round. I usually treat the allergies more seriously than the favourites, eg. If a pirate has 2 favourites foods and 0 foods it is allergic to in a round, they will probably win over a pirate that is eating 4 of its favourites but 1 it is allergic to. Decisions like this are up to your discretion but use that as a rule of thumb. Also, look at a pirate's odds before placing a bet. It is extremely rare to see a pirate win a round at 13:1, which is the longest odds Food Club offers. You can almost discount any pirate at 13:1 before even looking at their stats. On the other end of the spectrum, winners at 2:1 are quite frequent. Pirates are usually priced as they are for a reason. Remember that. In a nutshell, a short-priced pirate eating a lot of their favourites and none of their allergies will usually win. My favourite pirate is probably Gooblah the Grarrl, I often find he is a relatively safe bet. Now, when trying to earn a trophy from Food Club, you need to use your brain, as well as your ability to predict winners. Winning Food Club bets must be collected within 7 days, or the NP is forfeited. And, it is possible to collect more than one day's returns at once. So, if you time it right, it is possible to work build up several days worth of winning bets, and collect it all at once, to hopefully earn enough for a trophy! Maybe even a gold, like mine! *Polishes trophy for the thousandth time*
