Nyoka's Story

Many years ago, in another realm known as the Realm of the Worlds, a war waged for hundreds of years. The Shadow King, a dark and mysterious beast, threatened the very peace of the Realm of the Worlds. And for a while, the Realm of the Worlds was winning until the fall of the Hissaiks, a powerful crossbreed species of Draiks and Hissi. Shortly after came his most monstrous creation, Nyokabird. She was the very source of hate and darkness and, with her as the head warrior, it seemed as if it was all over for the Realm of the Worlds.
That is, until one fateful day…

Nyokabird spread her wings and pointed forwards, her paws stained with blood. ATTACK!" she snarled. "And show no mercy!" The troops of Darigan and Mutant pets soared ahead of her into the sea of warriors. She spotted a pink one and dove for it, claws extended.

The Pink Warrior dove left, too quickly for Nyoka Bird. GO!" She shouted to her army. Neopets of all different kinds soared and thumped forward.

Nyoka hovered above them. Her bloody paws became shrouded in a black mist. She aimed at the crowd and began to blast into the enemy warriors. Soon the enemies were half the size they were before, corpses of both armies scattered across the field. Nyoka hissed and dove at the pink warrior, slamming her in the side and slashing her face with her claws.

The Pink Warrior did not hesitate. Her razor-like claws dug into her enemy's tail and her teeth sank into her scales.

Nyoka hissed and suddenly she vanished in a cloud of black dust, reappearing above the warriors. There was nothing where Tiger had given her a blow. She roared to her troops, We have destroyed their numbers! Return to the battle forces!"

Suddenly, Nyoka froze in midair. Something glimmered on the earth. She dove done and picked it up, although the Pink Warrior's troops were still there. It was a golden compass. She opened it and inside was some writing in another language. She felt a huge buzzing erupt in her head and she passed out.

Hey, she's passed out." One of the purple warriors roared. "Make use of the darn thing. Turn her into good! When she wakes up she won't remember she was bad!" said a camouflage kougra.

Tiger, the Pink Warrior, thought a moment. True as it was, she decided to go with the camouflage warrior's plan. That is very wise, Bone." Tiger praised her warrior.

Later…
Nyokabird awoke, lying in a soft hay bed. She sat up, eyes scanning the small hut. Tiger brewed the boiling hot soup. Ah, you're awake. Tell me, do you remember anything of your past?" Tiger said calmly.

The Pink Warrior," Nyoka hissed, although her head was in a buzz. It was the feeling of being drunk to her. She reached out with paws to slash at her, but fell of the bed in a clumsy motion.

Hush, Nyoka. Have some rest." Tiger sighed, knowing Nyoka probably remembered a lot. The Tribe of Lugras rustled uncomfortably as she padded out to the announcement stone to speak. She remembers who I am, but most likely no more" The Pink Warrior said confidently.

Nyoka listened from the hut, pressed against the wall. What did she remember "no more"? And why did she have the urge to attack the pink kougra that had probably saved her at some point?

Tiger leaped down from the stone, emerging into the ill den. She flicked her ears impatiently. Do you know who you are?" Tiger said.

I am Nyoka," she said.

She flexed her claws angrily, and her tail lashed from side to side. Yes, we all know that, Nyoka." She gave Nyoka a hard stare. "So," She smirked. "Do you know that realm you are in?"

The Realm of the Worlds," she spat. "I'm not stupid." Her paws flickered an eerie mist, signaling her fury. Even though she had no memory, her powers were still there and, since she couldn't remember how to use them, very dangerous.

Tiger scratched the ground. Can you get up?" she asked. You scaly demon,' she added in her head.

Nyoka grumbled and hoisted herself up as she usually did. Her snake-like body area held her upright.

Good. Good," The Pink Warrior said. Her tail stopped moving, and rested on the ground. "I'll stop interrogating you. Feel free to explore the town, if you wish." She padded quietly out of the tent.

Tiger padded beside Nyoka, explaining most citizens of Lugra Tribe did not like new comers.

But they'll get used to her, Tiger thought.

Oh," Nyoka said. She gazed around the camp and then at a purple Lupe standing on the sidelines, polishing a sword. A memory flashed in front of her eyes- the Lupe charging at her, the sword pointed forwards. Then pain.

Tiger saw anger in her eyes as she stared past a Lupe with a sword. We're only preparing the swords for battle. We don't use them much other than to train our newest recruits," She said remindingly.

Nyoka shook her head as yells sprang up in the camp. "Leader Tiger, the Shadow King's troops are attacking!" an orange Kougra roared as he ran to the direction of the screams, sword in paw.

Tiger flexed her claws. Get the babies and their mothers to the battle shelter!" Tiger ordered. She called out other orders as a puny Darigan Aisha swiped her hand at her. Pfft. She said, knocking the young Aisha out of her way. The Shadow King seems desperate for warriors." Tiger murmured. She flicked her tail to Nyoka, ordering her to go to the battle shelter as well.

Nyoka turned around, hearing the battle cry of the Shadow King's warriors crush in her ears. Her heart pumped fast, her mind swirling. A Darigan Grarrl roared and came to her. "General Nyoka, come!" Nyoka shook her head. Can't remember... gah!" Then she spread her wings and flew through the camp as quickly as she could- in the opposite direction of the Battle Shelter.

No! Nyoka come back!" Tiger screeched. She lunged for Nyoka's tail, pulling as hard as she could

Nyoka cried in pain and turned around, snapping her jaws around Tiger's wrist. She managed to pull Tiger's paw away as she soared blindly through the camp. Nyoka flapped her much more exercised wings a little too fast and sliced through one of the huts and in surprised, let out a stream of flames from her mouth.

TIGER! I KNEW THIS WAS A BAD IDEA!" screamed Tiger's father as he battled a Mutant Jubjub. Tiger screamed in fury and spat at Nyoka a few feet away. Ducking her head, she gained speed and swiped her paw at Nyoka. Tiger finally grabbed Nyoka's tail and both plummeted down to the dirt. They weren't in the Lugra Tribe camp anymore, though

Nyoka raised herself up and scanned the area. Suddenly, she shoved Tiger out of the way as a black electric wave shot through the air. It sent Nyoka flying out of view.

Black mist filled the air and huge, dark figure lumbered by Tiger. It was a giant serpent with spikes lining its body. Deadly, white pupiless eyes stared down at Tiger. It is time that I, the Shadow King, rid of the pest that is the Pink Warrior.

Tiger spun around. You are mistaken. It is time the horrid Shadow King is put to rest," She growled.

The Shadow King laughed. You actually think a tiny speck such as you can take down the ruler of all realms?" He gave her a toothy smirk, revealing rows of sharp, jagged fangs.

The Pink Warrior ignored his comment. She flew overhead of the horrible beast. The Shadow King suddenly wrapped his very long tail around her and tossed her to the ground. Don't even try air attacks, Pinky. The air up there is toxic."

Tiger flew back up in the air, dodging to and fro. She flew around the Shadow King's head, in circles and circles... The Pink Energy bolted through her and electrocuted the beast. He roared and slammed his spiky tail into the Pink Warrior. Suddenly, he coughed and his gigantic head hit the ground, followed by his gigantic body, into unconsciousness.

Tiger swirled in confusion until she realized the Shadow King, lying on the floor. She saw his steady breathing, and she took no chance. He must die." She thought grimly. Slowly she approached him, and touched his chest. Tiger shocked him with Pink energy, right in his heart of doom.

NOOOO!" Nyoka burst out of nowhere and slammed Tiger in the side, throwing her across the misty battlefield. She blasted her with an energy beam and then turned to the Shadow King. He raised himself up very, very, very slowly, coughed and vanished. The mist cleared out and so did the attackers.

YOU TRAITOR! GET OUT OF HERE BEFORE YOUR HEAD IS CHOPPED OFF!" Tiger screamed. NYOKA! HOW COULD YOU! YOU DEMON! YOU IDIOT!" Tiger cried.

I... I..." Nyoka gasped. Her mind was swirling. Why was Tiger yelling at her? Nyoka had done her duty... had done what her instincts had told her. She gritted her teeth. I'd chop off your head first," she said and it leaked through the air like poison.

A Green Lupe ran to Tiger. "Leader Tiger, the camp is in ruins. May I suggest that we move to the camp of the Hissaiks?"

Tiger's ears flicked. She thought a moment, and then nodded. She turned to the Lupe. Yes, it sounds fairly good. Tell the rest of the camp for me on my word. Now, let me and Nyoka have a chat."

The Green Lupe nodded and ran off towards the camp. What?" Nyoka asked Tiger.

Uh, erm. Listen, Nyoka. Do you see the treachery that evil beast has done to our tribe?" Tiger said more calmly, but with an edge in her voice.

No, I don't," Nyoka said, as if blind to the destroyed camp and the smell of dead Lugras.

Tiger pinned Nyoka to the ground. I don't care." Tiger growled. She held her claw close to Nyoka's neck. You will apologize." Tiger cried. She knew she might sound a bit silly, but perhaps the demon would learn something.

Nyoka narrowed her eyes. The only treachery I see here is you. I do what my instincts tell me and you threaten to kill me."

Sometimes our instincts aren't always right" Tiger growled impatiently.

Well I am not saying sorry. Because your instinct is to hunt deer. In deer's point of view, your instinct isn't right. It depends how you look at it." Nyoka writhed underneath Tiger's grip.

Tiger dug her claws deeper into the soil. Shut up, idiot. Can't you see I'm mad?" She got off Nyoka. She padded down to the Lugra Tribe camp, leaving Nyoka behind. She'll never know the true meaning of love....or friendship." Tiger murmured quietly to herself.

Nyoka sighed and looked around. She heard a whisper in her ears. Nyoka... the Dark Shadow of Death... No," Nyoka muttered to herself and she felt something wet slide down her face. Suddenly, memories flooded to her. She smelled blood, heard the clanging of sword and at the head of it all she saw herself. Then it was forgotten once more.

And so the Tribe of Lugras, with Nyoka tagging along, headed to the abandoned Hissaik camp. It was the third tribe that the Shadow King's troops had overrun before Nyoka came along. It was only shortly after the conquering of that tribe did Nyoka appear.

Nyoka sighed as she flew at the back of the Tribe of the Lugras as they journeyed to the abandoned Hissaik camp. Tiger, nor anyone else, had talked to her since the Shadow King battle.

Tiger prowled the undergrowth for any herbs to use on the some of the sick warriors.

Nyoka saw Tiger doing so and flew to her. Need some help?" she asked, suddenly feeling as if she had a vast knowledge of herbs.

Tiger smirked. Sure, whatever." She gathered up a few of the leaves she had been picking earlier and bringing them back to the Healer of the Lugras.

Nyoka sagged her wing shoulders, knowing that Tiger obviously did not want her help.

Scar, the head warrior of the Tribe, ran to Tiger. It seems we have a situation, he said and pointed to a group of pets making their way up the ridge.

Tiger's ears flicking with surprise. She trusted Scar like a mouse trusted a hunter. Nonetheless, there were neopets coming forward. Get the warriors ready," She ordered Scar.

Scar nodded and ran off. In a few moments, the passageway was a battlefield. Nyoka hissed as the enemies gathered up around her. Back off, Nyoka barked.

Tiger followed Nyoka. You're trespassing our Tribe's territory," Tiger growled.

Dis is not jour terreeetoreh!" roared one of the neopets. "Dis is deh Redwing Tribe's terreeetoreh!" Nyoka paused. "I thought I had destroyed them all," she hissed beneath her breath, surprising herself. Why had she said that? The neopet pointed at Nyoka. "Joo walk wit deh eneeeemeee of us all az if she waz juz like joo or meh! Zat means joo all our eneeemeees! ATTACK!"

This is our land now, and we'll fight for it. ATTACK!!" Tiger cried. Lupes and Kougras alike sprang forward and another battle took place.

Nyoka, along with them, sprang into battle. They fled at the sight of her, claws gleaming and war shining in her eyes. She lunged at one and killed it in a swift movement and then used it as a bat to slam another one off the side of a cliff. Her paws became covered in black mist and she began to blast the attackers. "VRUN! SHE'LL KILL VUS ALL!" roared the enemy leader and the attackers turned and fled.

Good going, Nyoka...ermm, you can stop now." Tiger said coolly.

Nyoka hissed and turned around, her eyes gleaming wildly. She heard voices clash in her ears although there was no one talking. 'It seems my plan is working perfectly. She has no clue that I will soon kill her and take over the tribe. Nyoka will not stand in my way.

Nyoka! Nyoka! Tiger cried. Nyoka! She shook Nyoka's head.

Nyoka threw Tiger aside and lunged at Scar. She bit him in the wrist. The other Tribe members pulled her off of him.

DEMON! hissed Scar as he wiped the blood from his bleeding wrist and mouth.

Nyoka broke free and pointed accusingly at Scar. HIM! she hissed.

Him, yes, I am a him, you ugly demon, spat Scar. Lets procede to the Hissaik camp, shall we?

Tiger glanced mysteriously at Nyoka, wondering what she thought about Scar. But she shrugged it off, and as she passed Nyoka, she added Come along.

And so the Tribe's journey continued flawlessly through the mountains. When they finally arrived at the Hissaik camp, they were taken by surprise when they saw some of the Shadow King's troops sleeping peacefully around a fire in the center of the Hissaik camp.

Nyoka scanned the area. There were only five of the Shadow King's soldiers- easy enough for a Tribe of ten warriors. But it was useless to waste energy fighting. The element of surprise would be handy.

Tiger peeked at the warriors from behind a tree. Attack! Her battle cry was strong and defiant; you could even say it was intimidating. The warriors leaped from behind the trees, catching the sleeping warriors easily and tying them with rope against the trees.

Nyoka watched from the shadows, her red eyes looking eerie as they were reflected the light of the fire.

Tell us what you know about the Shadow King's plans, snarled Scar to one of the five captive enemies.

One of them writhed beneath ropes and scratched at the tree. "There is only one whom the Shadow King tells his plans to.

Scar held his knife to the captive one's throat. And who might you be?

Commander Delta, of the Fire Squadron," he hissed.

Scar looked worried. They have a Fire Squadron!

Tiger looked around for Nyoka. She dove through a few bushes to get to her. Do you know them? Tiger whispered in her ear.

Nyoka muttered, Commander Delta was from the Palweetan Tribe before I destroyed it. He betrayed his Tribe and joined our army, giving him a high rank as a Commander. His fire skills are great, as well as the ability to create fire out of midair. She stared at Tiger. How did I know that? As if on cue, the camp exploded with flames.

All of you, including Nyoka, Tiger said glancing at Nyoka. Put out these flames. I'll catch the five. She raced after the five warrior enemies.

Wha'da joo want?" One of the Shadow King's warriors smirked.

Tiger ignored the comments they made, as usual. She closed her eyes, the Pink Energry surging through her. Tiger looked up at the enemies. Her stripes and eyes began to glow white.

Meanwhile...

Nyoka soared above the camp, surfing on the rising thermals. She dove down and dumped her water bucket on a huge cluster of flames. For a moment they sizzled, but then roared back to life. Suddenly, she felt suction as the flames began to pull her in. She took a heaving breath and heat flew into her mouth. Nyoka was breathing in the fire! In a few moments the blazing camp was back to normal... well, a very burnt normal.

At least she's useful for something.." A green kougra muttered to a glowing lupe.

Claws scraped and blood spilled. Tiger was completely unstoppable. Finally, she conquered the Hissaik camp. Smiling, her stripes and eyes became their normal color again. She padded to camp and announced the great news to the rest of the tribe.

Tiger spotted Nyoka. She padded quietly behind her, and felt hot stares. All of you, go. Find prey. She ordered to the Tribe members of Lugra. Peering over Nyoka, she saw an envelope. Nyoka, it said on the top. Well, it's obviously for you. Are you going to open it?

Nyoka opened it. It was stained with blood and it was crinkled. Tiger flinched at the sight of blood again.

My dear Nyoka, if you are ever to read this I would like you to know who it is from. I am your father writing this. If you are ever to read this, which would be highly unlikely, you need to know the truth. Many years ago from when you are reading this letter at the moment, the Shadow King invaded our village and killed many of our warriors. He took your egg. You are a Hissaik, probably the last one in existence at that. I must go now, my time is up and I will go down fighting.

Nyoka's mind threw the letter to the ground. LIES! she hissed and flew out of the hut. Memories flew back to her. She spotted one prisoner struggling in his chains. She ran to him and melted the chains. He made a run into the forest. She tackled him. Who am I? she snarled. TELL ME NOW!

The Shadow King soldier struggled beneath her grip. "You are Nyoka, leader of the Shadow King's arm and second in command to the Shadow King's empire! You are indestructible, elite! You are deadly! You are Nyokabird! You have conquered most of the land in the name of the Shadow King and have taken away more lives than anyone thought lived in this realm! You are the Dark Shadow of Death!

Nyoka shook her head. I am believing myself! I am the Dark Shadow of Death! She let go of the Shadow King's soldier and soared into the Hissaik camp, releasing the captive Shadow King's soldiers. She spread her wings. The Dark Shadow of Death has returned! she roared and the Lugras threw arrows and whatever they could find at the flying monster. She flew away before any of the things got close to her, however.

Scar roared and shook his fist, but in his mind, his thoughts roared, Nyoka is gone! Now Tiger shall fall! Tiger flinched once more. She didn't care about Nyoka. She just wanted to run away to another world, run away to a peaceful place. But she knew it was impossible, it couldn't ever come true.

Scar snarled, I knew it would come to this, Tiger! Nyoka will tell the Shadow King where our troops have chosen to camp and he shall attack and kill us all! For all we know, we may be the only Tribe left to fight and defend the Realm of the Worlds and we are going to fail! His eyes narrowed. Because of you. Scar hoped his little speech would discourage her, take off her fighting spirit so she would be easier to defeat.

Tiger smiled. So? She replied swiftly. So? It swirled in her mind. She let out a growl. Shut up, now Scar. Shut up... I am higher rank...

Scar growled, I respect you, my leader, but I fear your choice was a bad one. Then he turned and stalked off. The Lugra Tribe members talked along one another. Eventually, the night was calm.

Meanwhile,

Nyoka presented herself in the Shadow King's throne room. I apologize, my master, for that small setback. But I am happy to report to you that the Lugra Tribe have nestled themselves in the Hissaik's old tribe lands.

Back at the Hissaik camp…

Tiger's tail twitched. She spread her wings and soared through the night sky. She followed traces of Nyoka's scent, but the wind was strong and eventually it was pointless. She saw black swirling smoke sprout out of a large castle. That must be Darigan's abandoned castle..or the Shadow King's lair. Tiger thought grimly. Tiger flew back to camp and inscribed in the sand she would be leaving for a few days. Bone, a wise elder, would be in charge. No. What if Scar erases it and puts his name? Tiger thought. She leaped up on a stone. I will be leaving for a few days. Bone, you are in charge until I come back. Tiger said. She flapped her wings and flew into the sky once more.

The next morning…

Nyokabird sat on the castle's tower, disguising herself as a statue. She couldn't help but feel relieved that the world was back to how it should be... her, powerful and destructive, claiming the realm for her great master. But something kept poking her, something she couldn't identify. A voice was whispering something to her, but she could not make out its words. She closed her eyes and sighed as Tiger and the other Tribe members danced into her memory once more. But it was soon replaced with visions of her- doing what she was created for.
Being a war machine.

Tiger finally reached the castle. Smoke billowed out, and soon her pelt was pitch black. Good disguise... Tiger thought. But inside, she knew Nyoka was a good person. Nyoka had good inside her-she just didn't know how to release it.

Nyoka spotted a black Kougra flying towards the castle entrance. A familiar scent wafted to her nose. Tiger! She soared down and rammed herself into Tiger and they both fell into the muddy moat's shore. Nyoka shook the sand off her and hissed, claws extended. But she couldn't bring herself to attack.

No, attack. No. Bad. Tiger said calmly, reassuringly.

Ticked, Nyoka hissed, I am not a dog! Suddenly, she shoved Tiger into the moat. Hundreds of warriors of the Shadow King's soared from the castle and towards the mountains, were the Hissaik camp was.

Trailing behind them was the dark misty serpent- the Shadow King.

Tiger climbed out of the moat, drenched. What'd you do that for? she hissed as she shook her coat dry.

Nyoka buried her face in her paws. It's too late… too late…"

The Pink Warrior raised an eyebrow. What's too late?

The Shadow King," Nyoka said grimly. "He is going to destroy the Tribe. And it's all my fault.

Tiger narrowed her eyes. No, it is not too late. It is never too late. She spread her wings and shot into the air, flying faster than she ever had before. Nyoka watched her fly away and finally followed.

When they reached the Hissaik camp, the Tribe was fighting for their lives, overwhelmed by a swamp of the Shadow King's soldiers. The Shadow King himself towered over them, batting warriors around.

Nyoka gasped, paralyzed in flight as she watched the war in front of her eyes.

DON'T GIVE UP! Tiger roared to her troops as she dove down into the battle.

The Pink Warrior brought her sword to an enemy's neck and shot another one's life away with pink energy. Then she ran for the Shadow King.

Scar saw Tiger, so unaware of him. He grinned. Now was his chance to make his master, the Shadow King, proud.

Nyoka saw Scar raised his sword over Tiger's head. NO!" she screamed. In a flash, she dove downwards and blood covered the grass. Scar screamed as Nyoka tore at his flesh. The bloody, mutated body of Scar was hurled aside.

GO!" Nyoka roared to Tiger. "Before it's too late!

Tiger nodded and threw herself at the Shadow King. He slammed his head into her body. The Pink Warrior slammed against a tree and the air was knocked out of her. But she ran back, determined. With her sword powered by pink energy, she stabbed the Shadow King in the stomach, only to be tossed into the air. She felt the teeth of the Shadow King wrap around her followed by the falling sensation. The Pink Warrior opened her eyes. She saw fighting, chaos all around, but she was shrouded in a dark mist that she could not get out of. It took her a while to realize that the Shadow King had eaten her.

Tiger! NOW! Nyoka roared.

The Pink Warrior narrowed her eyes and felt all the energy she had ever had pulse through her veins. Suddenly, it was released. The Shadow King roared. Pink light illuminated in the air and the mist exploded in a huge gust of wind.

Everything was silent. The Shadow King's army was gone. Blood and death was all around. Tiger stood up. Nyoka flew to her side. You did it! she gasped.

Tiger shook her head. No, we did it. With a smile, she gazed around the camp at her loyal warriors. We all did it.
