This is my cousin, Vatoc. He's a bit of an underdeveloped character right now, but bear with me. I'm trading Kvirra for him in November, where Vatoc will be under the ownership of my fellow Shukumeian Gugs. We'll be developing their characters together. Space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space space?
I wasn't immediately crazy about Exha. She was the first person I met when I was brought into this little makeshift 'family,' and she wasn't really welcoming. And by not really welcoming I mean not at all. The first thing she did when I entered the room was look me over casually without any eye contact, yawn, and then point out that my antennae were strange. From there, I figured things could only get better. Thankfully, they did. Once she looked past my strange exterior and I looked past her incredible superficiality, I learned that she spoke English wonderfully, and that for a girl who looks like she's never touched a book in her life, she's surprisingly well-read. It was actually Exha that taught me a lot of English, though I feel like I may have picked up some of her Barbadian accent while she taught me. We are much closer now, and we get the chance to walk around Shukumei and discuss literature and have picnics in Kudashima and look at the stars, and I think that's because she really mellowed out once she had her kids. Whatever the reason, I am coming to regard Exha more and more as a sister, and only hope that our relationship can get beter.
For right now, I am fortunate enough to have one of Exha's eight chlidren living with us, a feisty brat by the name of Moravera. She reminds me a lot of how Exha was before she had the kids, except taking those traits and compounding them. Vera's been trouble ever since she was able to talk, which was surprisingly early--that's probably because she was constantly around her mother and two of her sisters, Kiohmo and Mokhee, and Kio always let Vera push her around. This girl developed a mean streak early on, and was often bullying her siblings. Once she got tired of that, she moved on to me and Jaluery (only Lu for a little bit, though--Lu's got her magic) and then, with a pouty 'hmph,' took her attitude out into the real world, where she delved headfirst into the music scene. She's apparently pretty successful--I'm not surprised. She has this fight-to-the death mentality. But she's also gotten herself into some trouble--she goes to places she's not supposed to, hangs out with less than desirable people, and does things she's definitely not supposed to. I think Vera will straighten out eventually--I mean, there's no way she'll ever become as successful as she wants to, right? And I think that will ground her a little bit more. Or...at least I hope so. Until then, I'll keep my distance.
The last one that I live with, and the one that I see least often, is named Jaluery. I probably shouldn't be saying this out loud, since she's very practiced in hoodoo and her other scary swamp rituals, but I'm actually a little afraid of Lu. Okay, maybe a little more. But for good reason, from what I've experienced, okay?! Sheesh! Lu is kind of relentless when it comes to ascending to what she believes is her birthright--she was born with the ability to freely communicate with spirits, and views herself as more valuable in her Geraptiku rituals than her elders. A bunch of the elders that held ranks above her have died recently...gives you good reason to be suspicious, no? And not that I haven't liked Lu when we have spoken, it's just that I feel she is much more powerful than people give her credit for, and it makes me frightful and reverent at the same time. I wouldn't advise it, but she's always seen somewhere down in this swamp area...
It's interesting the way that some friendships play out, or even how they begin. I became acquaintances with a young girl named Avaula when I was walking through the woods and she was camping. Sounds pretty cheesy, yes? That's what I thought! But she seemed very forthcoming, even though she had this strange, ornately-decorated box that I learned had monsters in it. One of them came out and almost attacked us.
Yeah. This guy's a freak. He looked contemptuously at the little frog-alien with pointy cat-looking ears, who hadn't blinked or moved. Nuize reached over and positioned his limbs so that he was sitting up straight. When he gets startled or is around people he doesn't like or something he just goes all stiff like this...and he never blinks. Or talks. Or does anything.
In any case, I was fortunate enough to find a place to live. Shukumei is a wonderful place where all sorts of creatures live in relative harmony and bliss, and where their owners, who are all artists of some sort, are free to express themselves and expand their talents. I'm having trouble finding my niche, but it's the perfect place to stargaze, which is what I find myself doing a lot these days, and I've even managed to find a couple of people that are interesting enough to hold a conversation with, which was surprising even to me. I still don't like enough of them to really feel at ease, though, but I figure I'll be able to work on that, especially with Exha's help. She practically forces me outside...
Maybe it's a better place than I give it credit for. All of my fosters seem to like it a lot. And they're always chattering about Shukumei's slogan, so I guess I should tell it to you:
