-The violin is the smallest member of the strings family and relies on a long, slender piece of wood with horsehair attached called the bow to make sound. You put a sticky substance on it called rosin. The rosin makes the bow stick to the strings, and when you pull it accross, it makes sound. The violin is one of the hardest instruments to play. But don't take my word for it. Ask misperfection. She's been playing violin since she was three. That's about 10 years. It'll be 11 in the fall.
- The Cello is similar to the violin, but larger. It is also a member of the strings family. Instead of holding it under your chin, however, you must hold it out in front of you due to it's large size. It works exactly the same as a violin, though.
- If anything is harder than the violin, this would be it. The harp has a different string for every note. This makes it extremely difficult to play well. To create sound on this particular instrument, you pluck the strings, which vibrate to make noise.
- The flute is a woodwind instrument, and is played by blowing air through it. Holding your fingers (or claws, in my case) over the holes will change the pitch. You hold a flute out to the side of your mouth.
- The clarinet is one of my favorites. It's also a woodwind. It produces a very mellow sound, and is used in many of my favorite songs by Danny Elfman. Unlike the flute, however, you hold this instrument out in the front of you.
