How to fix the Tarla Alert bug in Firefox

If you've been having problems with the alert button not flashing in Firefox, or flashing far too late, then this page will hopefully help you to fix it :)

Some very talented Neopian has created a firefox extension that will fix the Firefox Bug automatically, and do many more things! Including fixing the resetting bug!!! Woohoo! Thanks swordfire82 :-) The place you need to go to get it is:

I have it myself and it works great, but if you don't want to install this extension onto your computer for any reason, the steps needed to do this manually are still here! :-)

OK, first of all type this into the address bar of Firefox: "about:config". This will take you to the settings page of Firefox, where you can change a lot of settings.

The options we want to change are the Neopets toolbar ones, so type "Neopets" into the filter box, as in the screenshot above. This will only show the options relevant to the Neopets toolbar. :)

Now, find the preference with the name "neopets.toolbar.AlertPeek.AlertFlag". This shouldn't be too difficult, as it's the first one :) Make sure the value is set to "True". If it is not, right-click on "False", and select "Toggle", so it changes to True. This will enable the alerts, and fix the bug where you are not alerted at all. I included a couple of screenshots that will help you figure it out :) Note that some people are not affected by this bug, so if it is already set to "True" leave it like that, and move to the next step :D

The next bug people with Firefox encounter is that they are alerted far too late. So, while in "about:config", you can also change the time in seconds it takes for the toolbar to check for an alert.
Find the preference with the name "neopets.toolbar.AlertPeek.Interval", right click on it, and change the value to somewhere around 10-20, meaning it will check for updates every 10-20 seconds.

There is currently an issue with the value you put into the "neopets.toolbar.AlertPeek.Interval". It seems to reset itself back to the default value of 60. It appears not to reset until you visit the "about.config" page again though, so if you don't visit the about.config page again you will probably be OK. If you do, unfortunately you will have to remember to change the values every time you visit the page. :-( I will confirm all these details very soon, but I am pretty certain.
So, just don't go back to about:config if you can help it! :D
