welcome

Most Neopians work hard to paint their pets and change them to exciting new colors. Why not change up your Neopets site theme? Here at Neothemes, you can do just that. Neothemes is a themes site run by me, Memoria (membot). Here you can change your site theme with the power of CSS. To get started, choose the tutorial for your browser to the left. Also, check out the "Browser Differences" page!

There are currently 21 themes and 3 different theme styles available.

June 16, 2011
The Comic Book and Nyan Cat themes have become the first "improved" theme codes. I will be working on updating the other themes too, in the next few days. The updates include some color fixes, and most importantly, event icons! Now (Internet Explorer excluded) your Neothemes will have header event icons that go with them! I've been meaning to do this for a while. As always, please report any bugs!

faq
Do you take requests?
Sorry, but I don't take requests for themes or anything else. I prefer to use my free time to make themes that everyone can use and enjoy, rather than a specific request. However, you are always welcome to suggest a theme, and although there is no guarantee, I will make themes out of good ideas that many people would be interested in.

Can I use your code to make my own theme?
Yes! You are free to customize theme codes and images for your own use. Just please do not redistribute them.

The themes are not working as they should!
Before you send me a neomail, please check this page to see if your browser supports the feature you are saying is faulty. If you are still confused, return to the tutorial for your browser and make sure you read and follow every step correctly. If you are still having troubles, please feel free to neomail me.

browser differences
Each browser may display themes differently. If your browser does not support a feature you want, you may want to download a different browser.

tutorial: firefox
Note: With Firefox, there is currently no way to disable themes on certain pages within Neopets, such as lookups, which can have conflicting style sheets. For now, you will need to disable themes manually if you run into problems. To avoid this, you can use Chrome or Safari and follow their tutorials on this page.

  1. Install the add-on Stylish for Firefox. If it says you need the latest version of Firefox, just install an older version of the add-on. After it installs, you will need to restart Firefox.

  2. Click Tools, Add-ons.

  3. At the top of the Add-ons box, click Stylish. Then click Write New Style.

  4. In the name field, type the name of the theme. In the code field, paste this:
    @-moz-document domain('neopets.com'){

    CODE HERE

    }

  5. Replace "CODE HERE" with the theme code and click Save.

  6. Next time you visit Neopets, your theme should be working! You can add other themes the same way, and choose to enable or disable them by clicking the icon for Stylish in the bottom right of the browser.

tutorial: chrome
  1. Install the extension Personalized Web.

  2. Click the wrench in the top right. Then click Tools, Extensions.

  3. Find Personalized Web in the list and click Options.

  4. There is a built-in adblocker that you can enable if you want.
    Click Add New Rule.

  5. In the Rule Name field, type the theme name. In Match URLs, paste this:

In Exclude URLs, paste this (This disables the theme on pages that might cause problems):
    ^http://www.neopets.com/(userlookup.phtml|randomfriend.phtml|ul_preview.phtml|petlookup.phtml|pl_preview.phtml|browseshop.phtml|gallery/index.phtml|guilds/guild.phtml|~|preview_homepage.phtml)

Uncheck the box shown below. Leaving it checked will block flash objects.

  6. In the Add CSS field, paste the theme code.

  7. Near the bottom, click Save.

  8. Next time you visit Neopets, your theme should be working! You can add other themes the same way, and choose to enable or disable them by going back to the Options page, clicking the check marks on and off, and clicking Save.

tutorial: explorer
Note: Since there is currently no feature of Explorer that allows setting styles for specific websites, the theme code will apply to all websites. This means that sometimes you might see elements of the theme appear on other websites. Also, themes may cause problems on certain pages, such as lookups, which can have conflicting style sheets. To avoid this and have a better web experience in general, you should use Chrome or Safari.

  1. Make a new folder somewhere you can find easily and name it "Neopets Themes".

  2. Open a new document in Notepad (or a similar program) and paste the theme code into it.

  3. Click File, Save As. Save the file in the folder you made and name it "Theme Name.css", replacing "Theme Name" with the name of the theme.

  4. Now open Internet Explorer and click Tools, Internet Options.

  5. In the Internet Options window, click Accessibility near the bottom.

  6. Under User Style Sheet, check the box that says "Format documents using my style sheet". Then click Browse and find your file. Click OK.

  7. Next time you visit Neopets, your theme should be working! You can add and switch to other themes the same way.

tutorial: safari
  1. Install the extension User CSS.

  2. Click this button in the top left.

  3. Check the box that says Enabled. In the Name field, type the theme name. Under Includes, paste this:
    http://*.neopets.com/*

Under Excludes, paste this (This disables the theme on pages that might cause problems):
    http://*.neopets.com/~*
    http://*.neopets.com/preview_homepage.phtml
    http://*.neopets.com/userlookup.phtml
    http://*.neopets.com/randomfriend.phtml
    http://*.neopets.com/ul_preview.phtml
    http://*.neopets.com/petlookup.phtml
    http://*.neopets.com/pl_preview.phtml
    http://*.neopets.com/browseshop.phtml
    http://*.neopets.com/gallery/index.phtml
    http://*.neopets.com/guilds/guild.phtml

  4. In the Styles field, paste the theme code. Then click Save.

  5. Next time you visit Neopets, your theme should be working! You can add other themes the same way, and choose to enable or disable them by clicking the button for User Styles in the top left.

tutorial: opera
Note: With Opera, there is currently no way to disable themes on certain pages within Neopets, such as lookups, which can have conflicting style sheets. For now, you will need to disable themes manually if you run into problems. To avoid this, you can use Chrome or Safari and follow their tutorials on this page.

  1. Install the extension Include CSS.

  2. Go to Neopets. If Neopets is already open, refresh the page.

  3. Click the icon for Include CSS in the top right.

  4. Now you'll see a list of style sheets. These are the style sheets that Neopets is already using. You do not need to alter these. Click New CSS.

  5. In the top box, type the theme name. In the big box, paste the theme code. Click Save.

  6. Your theme should be working instantly! Click Back to return to the list of style sheets, and your theme will be in the list.
You can add other themes the same way, and enable or disable them by clicking "on" or "off" next to them in the list.

(drag to address bar to enlarge)

Neopets Slim is a new way to browse Neopets, with a slimmer header and footer and two versions to choose from.

Fixed keeps the header and footer attached to the top and bottom of your screen as you scroll, so you always have quick access to the navigation and search.
Non-fixed leaves the header and footer where they are as you scroll.

neopets classic

(drag to address bar to enlarge)

Neopets Classic changes Neopets to how it looked before the layout change, back in the old days. There are two options for the banner at the top.

Normal includes the banner ad at the top, where it was in the old layout.
No banner gets rid of the banner. Use this if you use ad-blocker or have premium, which blocks ads. Otherwise, you'll have a white space where the banner would be.

This theme is not compatible with Internet Explorer. To learn more about browser capability, check out the browser differences page.
