Any seemingly small information about you could be used to find more information about you and your family. you may think that there is no harm in telling people what school you go to, charities you participate in, or what you parents do for a living...but these are all potentionally harmful information. Don't think for a second that just because Neopets is a family site, that you can not be found. If someone really wanted to find you, they will. ADD ON: Thank you everyone for the neomails for suggestions and information. I have a few neomails concerning that I'm trying to use scare tactics to get people to protect themselves. Remember my statement above. This is not what this page is about, and that is not how I wanted it to appear. I am simply showing how a little bit of information can be used against you, and this page is intended to show you how to protect yourself if you DON'T want to be found. Also, I have recieved numerous neomails about how you are adults and you have that choice to give out info. Yes, I understand. I am not trying to tell anyone to stop giving out info. I am only trying to help you fell the attempts of others gathering information on you that you don't want them to know. HOWEVER, I do love the neorules, so please don't expect any sympathy if you got reported for breaking the rules. I am a silent reporter so you wouldn't know if I reported anyways. If you see my link being posted on a board by me, then there was probrablly something you said, or I felt was getting to. If not one of those, there was most likely someone on the board who had something in ther UL. One last add-on, which is really a message from a lot of the User's that have neomailed me. Parents, you are responsible for your kids. What they do online_ who they meet outside the house, and whether or not they lie to you to go out. Bottom line is they are YOUR kids and your responsibility. Use your parenting skills and being safe knowledge to protect your children. It is not neopets fault if they met someone online and ended up getting nabbed because they lied to you about where they were going. Of course someone will disagree, feel free to neomail me your opinions.

█Full Name: knowing your full name is a dangerous piece of information. Major key in finding you. Neopets gives you the ability to change you name. i suggest putting in a unique name not belonging to you or any actual person. EX. Nike Cat or T.V. Lord If you insist on using your real name, please include only your first or middle name. NOT your last name. you can change your name by going here. █School: Contrary to the fact that many children seem to think,"There are like 800 kids that go to my school.", it is not safe to let anyone know that kind of information. Information such as this can give a person a general idea of the area you live in. The majority of parents live near the school from which their child is recieving their education, for traveling purposes of course. Some don't, but it makes sense to send your child to a school closest to where you live. Even if a potential predator did not know where at the school to find you, you put other students and your friends in danger by allowing them to know where you attend. █Work: With a name and a place of work, they can VERY easily find out who you are and where you live. They can find you at your place of work, find out what you look like, and follow you home. Some people travels great lengths to get to work, some people would do the same to find you. Don't be fooled and think that there isn't an idiot out there who wouldn't...believe me... someone would. With a company that's have few employees (like 30 or less), it would be a whole lot easier to pick out which one is you. █Charities: Although some charites seem harmless, it can be another chance for a person to find out where you live. It's not a really easy place to gather information, but if it is a local charity that visits only certain places, they can get a general look at where you go and hang out. █Area Code:I'm not sure if this is something that a lot of neopians do or not (but they sure do in my area), but some people actually give out thier area codes, as some type of representation of who they are. Obviously giving out your area code is just an invitation to your town. █Address: Luckily most neopians know better than to gie out thier address, because that is a BIG no no, and would probrablly be the single most idiotic thing you ever did on neopets. An address would surley allow a person to find your house and visit your residence. If not that, they could use your address to find your house number and call you. Do not give out a real address, even those of other people. you could put someone else in danger, and that isn't cool. █Phone #: You don't really want a stranger to call you do you? No way! Not only that, some phone #s can be used to do a reverse lookup and find out who you really are (or whoever) and just as easily find an address to match. █Photos: Although little information could actualy be found from looking at a photo, it allows a person to see what you look like as well as learn little personal things about you. If there is a surrounding visible, they can figure out where you like to go, possibly where you live, and even where the photo was taken. Also a tidbit sent in by rocketmanjc210, photos can be easily stolen and used to create fake ID's at home or otherwise. Watch out for identity theft! Another thing I thought I'd mention, Neopians seem to like taking other users photos and using them as thier own. So imagine 15 people take your photo and claim to be you and starts making a fuss. Suppose someone online saw your photo and reconized you? The fakers could ruin you with false statements or by photoshoping you or your face into inappropriate images/situations. (Ex. adult content). Careful with your photo distribution. You guys are so awesom! More tips from noicepls, (thank you!). Your photo can be inspected to get the link to where it came from. Alot of photo hosting sites include your username as part of the link. For example, photobucket includes your username in part of the link and can be used to gain access to your album, which may contain photos you wish to remain private. █Local Events: Although it would be fun to let guildies or friends know about the cool local events, these events can be tracked. (Ex. googled to get location, website, city info). It's cool to hang out with friends ... but then when the neostalkers arrive .. not so fun. It started off as a post where she was looking for someone going to her school. She was repeatedly told that she was breaking the rules by asking/giving personal information. Through out this entire conversation she kept "accidentally" giving out more information about herself. She was adament that since she was unlisted in any phonebook and that neopets was a safe site, no one would be able to find her anyways. I began my search to prove her wrong. After her barrage of, "your rude!" and "your being mean!", I searched the internet for all sorts of clues as to where she could be found. Based on the informations about her school and her place of work, I was able to establish the area she lived in. Then from other tid bits such as her family and events she attended I was able to locate her. I am unable to go into the exact details of how each process was done, but be assured I have had done it and I got a phone #. I called the phone #, and this is about how it went. *I called the house twice because no one picked up the first time.* ♥Me:Hello? Also, the girl has been reported (for her safety since she just couldn't stop telling us things) and has been frozen. The same can happen to you. Play safe and just don't tell anyone anything.

All I can tell you is to google up "Toby Studebaker neopets" and read the story that comes up. Note that this story is actually intended for the parents as awarness of some of the things that happen. Although that story took place in 2004, they still happen today.
I apologize for the picture quality of these screenies. It seems that on my computer, when saving it to .jpg (on MS Paint)the color tends to get a bit darker/alter and gets a little fuzzy as well. Thanks for all the neomails on how to fix this, never thought of it, but I think I will continue to save them to JPG as trying to learn to use PNG properly is just too much for me. Thanks! Also, I only choose certain neomails/comments to be posted here, please do not request to be screenied.
You can neomail questions if you wish and they may or may not appear here. Q. You have a great cause and all, but don't you think it's a personal choice if someone wants to give out infromation? A. Yes, of course it's a choice. The purpose of this page is to help you remain unfound, if thats what you wish to be, and to help the parents that have children that play realize how some harmless info can be taken a long way. However, do keep in mind that personal information is not to be given out on neopets, so do it at your own discretion. From the boards: *cough* Stalker!... Well.... that's not really fair, but I suppose I understand that statement. But now I'll just have to.. *points to dictionary*. That girl I searched was not a "prey" of any sort, and had been the only person I have EVER searched for over neopets. I had made a joke about making a petpage about that incident and got plenty of encouraging comments/neomails suggesting that I make an example of it.... so here it is.
