We've evolved into something more than a group of neo-players into a family of crazy neo-players. lol! No, seriously. We've had our ups, downs, moments of craziness, moments of silence and…that connection you feel from a person despite knowing they're on the other side of the globe. Realistically, though, Haven isn't for everyone and we've seen people we've come to like enter and leave; however, there are numerous amazing guilds out there with different themes that may be just for them. This whole guild matter is subjective, going by different strokes for different folks. So let's take a walk down memory lane shall we? ^_^ Because everyone deserves recognition! Since we dropped the member of the month and other spotlight that seems to favor one member over the other, the corner thought of another way to show appreciation! Since it's the holidays where everyone is either on vacation or enjoying real life, the odds of holding a chatter event seems bleak; but we'll talk about its feasibility that on the boards. Another new guild page found right here in the corner is Krizpie's Petpage Pretties which serves as a directory of our finished petpages, about me pages, role-play faq pages, other faq pages, art pages and the like! Together With the launching of the newly reorganized Creative Corner & Newsletter, we opened two sub-council spots, special roles that will be given to a couple of active & dedicated members who will become part of the Haven Team and will assist us Council Crazies especially with the guild boards. Past Event Highlight: November Halloween ChatterWritten By: AthenaThanks to everyone who attended and shared their ghost stories and legends from their respective countries, we've become more knowledgeable about Halloween and got some new spooky stories to tell to our friends. The November Halloween Chatter, which was held for two days from October 30 to 31 in order to accommodate those who couldn't make it in one day, was a success! Kudos to everyone! Thanks for all your support! :D 
Creative Corner: Journey from a Small JournalBack in the day prior to the major guild rebirth which occurred January 2009, a time when Haven recently changed its name from Inspiration, our entertainment section was run by our very own Vikki. It was a simple one-page journal of creative works where anyone could submit their poetry, stories, artwork and comics. I used to contribute to the journal on a regular basis, because well, I love writing. Due to real-life obligations, however, Vikki went on a long-term leave. After the rebirth when we were deliberating which guild activities should stay or not, Mo passed the journal to me and renamed it Ath's Creative Corner. I bounced all the way to another dimension from so much happiness, because at the time I thought if I had to host any page, I wanted it to be something I like. This turn of events meant I could finally make a small playground where imagination and creativity is encouraged without the notion of elitism, because that's the one characteristic I personally loathed about some writing guilds. (Originally I wanted to join a writing guild you see, but changed my mind.) I wanted to create a place where you can submerge yourself in your world and submit works without having to worry of someone sinking their teeth into you. Although I set some minimum standards that works should fall within the TNT rules, everyone in the guild was encouraged to contribute though it is optional. The Old Creative Corner consisted of a single Sloth-themed page (uniform to the standard guild page) composed of merely poetry, stories and articles. With the help of a few dedicated contributors, updates were made every month. The Creative Corner went on its first revamp March 2009 and released a new version last April 2009. The format is pretty much the same – poetry, stories & articles – only this time I added a Did You Know? section which tackled word origins and inspiring quotes from a featured author. Once again, the works accumulated - so much that one page seemed too small to archive everything.  The Old Corner. The May 2009 update had a Meridell Theme. I also added a second page which hosts all the archives or past works. The corner was also subdivided into pathways: Did You Know? (Word Origins & Author Quotes), Uncharted Lands (Poetry, Stories, Articles Drabbles), The Golden Archives (Past Works) and Fun Stuff (Comics, Recipes, etc). Later as the updates rolled in, I received feedback that the corner was getting cramped which I sadly admit was true! We have so much content and two pages didn't seem enough! (Shouldn't I be happy? Well...) Unfortunately, things in real-life got out of hand and there were some scuffles, experiences and sources in neo (not Haven, you could say Haven was my sanctuary) which no longer made it fun. I no longer found it funny. Why play a game that gives me more stress when I only play to de-stress? Plus some real life things needed to be taken care of first. I was getting broke. Hence, I went on hiatus. Upon return, the first thing I did was skim through the Creative Corner Pages and decided to give it yet another revamp – this time with an Outerspace Theme. It was a BIG update! Sections were changed, removed and added. With the help of our family members old and new, more content from different members made the corner grow. (Thank you lovelies!) The Guild & Neopian News were separated from Stories & Poetry. The Haven Newsletter was added. We also opened the corner for public viewing, tried to spread the word by mouth and even sought to be listed in directories. A randomized author profiles were added. The corner has experimented a lot and as you have noticed, we have come a long way from that small one-page journal. The Creative Corner has evolved into how you see it today. This is in preparation for the corner's one-year anniversary starting with its rebirth January 2010. (One-year of continuous growth & circulation woohoo…although technically, the creative section has been in existence way longer than that!) Who else should we thank but readers (imaginary or real :P) who have supported and encouraged the corner to stay in circulation. This wouldn't have been possible without all the contributors most importantly. ;) For the dedication of you ladies and gentlemen and pets showed, here's a toast of borovan for all you readers! Hue is the attribute used to describe colors by name, i.e. red, blue, yellow etc. Intensity is used to describe the brightness, or the dullness of a color. Oil Paint, according to Winsor & Newton, is one of the great classic media, and have dominated painting for five hundred years. Zinc white is white formed zinc oxide which gives a pure cool cover. Character SpotlightTaelia the Snow Faerie Ah, sweet frosty winter! Can you feel the spirit of Christmas swirling in your head and thumping in your chest?! Well, it's that time of the year again when we sing to the tune of our favourite songs like: You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen But do you recall the most famous Faerie of all? Now before you stuff me into your dirty socks for destroying a lovely Christmas song, hear me out. Let me tell you now that I tweaked the lyrics on purpose to introduce one of the most generous and kind-hearted Faeries in Terror Mountain well-loved for her amazing healing abilities which she uses to rescue freezing neopets clever enough to forget jackets, her snow faerie quests, saving Hannah the Adventurous Usul from a horrible curse, and last but definitely not the least – and I humbly insist that she gets a golden award for this remarkable act of justice – for the fact that she stopped giving out Draik Morphing Potions and Dark Battle Ducks. Taelia just loves to help out neopets. Oh, but don't get me wrong! I am saying this out of sincerity, not sarcasm. With such powerful icy powers and healing skills unrivalled by any other, it makes you wonder why we bother going to that bottle-happy Water Faerie in the Healing Springs instead of going straight to generous Taelia's warm, secluded hut up in the mountains. Her talents include fashioning magical ice items after herself, avoiding other Faeries because they're uncool, and convincing you that you want to help her gather the ingredients she needs for her potions. You know you want to. :) Neopian WorldWe make our world significant by the courage of our question. Atlas of the Ancients: Tae's Story CoverageWritten By: TaeOur story begins with a young Kacheek and Yurble running home after a day of play. The yurble asks his friend what's the hurry and she explains that she needs to be home before dark or else she'll be in trouble. He reassures her that there's plenty of daylight remaining so they can take their time. The kacheek is wary, telling the yurble of a story her parents had told her of a fire-breathing monster that comes out at nightfall. The yurble laughs and explains that it's nothing but a story her parents told her to spook her into obeying. They run off to play some more. The Wise Gnorbu observes the children and calmly sniffs a purple flower, muttering 'Interesting' as he gazes off to the sunset. He returns to his study and describes it to his Blue Wocky apprentice, Clara, the details of what he heard the children talk of and mentions an ancient book holding instructions for what to do for a time like this. Clara is immediately able to find it and waits as her master reads before finally telling her what needs to be done will require travel and that his weary bones wouldn't be able to handle the travel. She asks what needs to be done and the Wise Gnorbu states he knows just who is right for the job. We cut to a resort where a Lutari is lounging beside a pool with a young Kougra chasing a Buzzer. The lutari, introduced as Mr. Cholchester, is handed a note by a worker at the resort. Upon reading the note, he tells the kougra, Jordie, that their vacation is over and that they must leave. Now all of the characters are in the Wise Gnorbu's study and looking at a map in the book as he describes where he believes the adventures will lead Mr. Cholchester, and tells him that Clara will be joining on the journey. After a very brief protest, the Wise Gnorbu and Mr. Cholchester shake on it and the trio of Roxton, Clara, and Jordie set out. Jordie runs to get some supplies and Roxton notes that he hopes Clara knows what she's gotten into and she quips that she was thinking the same. We now see our heroes walking along a narrow mountain path to reach the Boat Rental Stand. After Clara remarks that she can care for herself, Roxton proceeds to deliver a horrible, horrible pun and Clara points to the stand. Roxton says they prefer the term 'ship.'And they indeed got a 'ship'.... After departing, Clara mentions that due to the wind and moisture that there will probably be severe storms if they continue their original route and suggests that they instead take an alternate. Roxton ignores this. A few hours later, they're all screaming for their lives since the 'ship' is going down. They take shelter in a cave and Clara finds primitive carvings on the walls of creatures on fire, to note a meerca and a stick person. Jordie asks if she believes in the Fire Creature Myth and she admits that she would like it to be real. Roxton tells her to stop filling Jordie's head with Faerie Tales and is interrupted by a long, low growl from deeper in the cave. They look to find a pair of glowing eyes and flee the cave. Finally in Altador, they save an Aisha that was fishing but swept into the sea by the fierce waves which are harsher than he has ever seen them. Clara tells Roxton of a passage she came across in the book in reference to the Twelve Heroes of Altador and creates a theory that how their constellations align may be the next clue. Of course, Roxton is skeptical but they head to the Observatory anyway. Upon finding nothing, Clara is down-hearted and snaps at Roxton when he says 'I told you so.' He comes up with a theory that perhaps the clue is in the Hall of Heroes and says to look about while Jordie exclaims he's going to find something that could help with the mission. With Roxton having found the next clue, Clara tells him the book says they must now head to Faerieland. Immediately, Roxton asks again to make sure and Clara says that it's what the book says and she asks what's wrong with Faerieland. Roxton simply tells her it's a long story Upon landing, they begin to think about the next clue while walking down the road when a bolt of lightning strikes Jordie. Clara and Roxton take him to the Healing Springs where he swims about and is fully healed. While waiting for Jordie to finish, Roxton figures out that the Springs holds the next clue and is actually the Golden Fountain Statue. He takes it and is splashed by the Water Faerie who watches over the springs and is quite mad at him. For last time he was there, he did something that drained the Springs and it took her quite some time to refill it. Clara states they don't have time to deal with this and tosses her slushie onto the Faerie as our trio makes a break for it. Back on the "ship" the Roxton admires Clara's quick thinking. She asks if Jordie is alright and he heads onto the deck, saying he needs some air. Clara, spotting a button on the Foutain Statue, presses it and it opens up. Roxton smiles and they head onto the deck as well to prepare to sail, and discover the weather has turned for the worst. Arriving in Terror Mountain, the ice is melting rapidly just as the tome had written in it. They move along a prevarious edge and Clara, yet again, slips and Roxton catches her. He comments she's in good hands with him and she can't resist a slight smile. Later that night, at their camp, Clara is awoken by a fireball racing through the sky and she chases it. What kind of lingo is that, you say? Before you throw me your updated dictionaries, it's merely a fun and random attempt to combine confusion and anticipation to represent that very human psychological tension when you can't decide which one you're feeling. This happens mostly when everyone – well almost everyone – seems to be frazzling over how to obtain that particular color, an example of which is the yet-to-be-released one known as the magma pet.  Many rumors surround its emergence in the recent Atlas of the Ancients plot as covered by our guild correspondent Tae. Some believe a magma paintbrush is needed to obtain such a sizzling color. Others are all fired up believing the magma pool has something to do with getting the color. A handful of neopians turned to preparing themselves from disappointment by broadcasting to the world of their stark hatred of the color, just in case it turns out to be rare and expensive. Some move on with their neo-lives and settle on waiting for the answer to reveal itself through the various help sites in Neopia. Magma? How? When? Who knows? We'll find out sooner or later. In order to get a magma pet, you have to wait for the guard (magma Tonu) to fall asleep.  Then your pet can scurry past the guard and take a dip or swim in the pool! To an average earning Neopians like myself it comes as a relief that attaining a magma pet isn't that expensive because at least people like us still have a chance to get own an awesome pet! As the grand celebration drew near, spiffy goodies were given away by clicking on the colorful gift boxes lined up on the birthday page and the NC mall released limited edition items that not everybody in the world can get a hold of due to lack of NC in some countries, one of the many unfortunate circumstances that befell the writer of this article. The anticipated 15th day in the month of Storing is deemed to be Neopets' official anniversary date. Neopian players received a Celebrating Neopets 10th Birthday Background and the all-new 10th birthday avatar.  
Limited edition pets were also surprisingly released (alphabetically) throughout the day, particularly Chombies, Cybunnies, Hissis, Jetsams, Kikos, Kois, Poogles and Tonus; some players watched the fiasco as other neo-players raved and whined and threw rotten worms at the underappreciated Koi specie. Pound surfers had a field day. Aspiring conspiracy theorists blathered on about the possibility that TNT would once again release Draiks, Krawks and Lutaris which obviously never happened. Birthday treats include the temporary use of the birthday site theme, release the Happy Birthday! Avatar for those who haven't got one yet, Brain Tree & Coltzan rewards increased; dailies such as the Treasure of the Black Pawkeet, Wheel of Excitement and Swashbuckling Academy were made free. Here were also increased tickets available for sale at the Ticket Booth. Players could also send their score 10 times compared to the usual 3 times, and this is available until the end of the year! The wholesome fun continued after the celebration with some Neopets Trivias available on the Birthday Page. A Games Master Challenge 10th Anniversary CoverageStriding inside the games room in his signature 3D glasses, ugly red jogging suit and an ego bigger than his head is Aristotle A. Avinroo with more games and challenges for all neopians. It's that time of the year again where everyone must recognize once and for all that he isn't known as the Games Master for nothing! The Games Master Challenge is a series of game challenges following different themes, with this year encompassing Neopia's history. Players needed to visit the main page wherein they could view the challenges issued by AAA. In order to obtain the rewards, one needs to surpass a particular score, or reach a minimum amount of games played in order to qualify for the next round. It goes hand in hand with the Games Master NC Challenge wherein you have to beat Lulu, AAA's cousin who loves collecting NC Mall items so much she wouldn't mind staying up all night wondering what to collect next instead of collecting everything – I know I would if I could just get my hands on some NC cash cards. The Lulu Challenge is exclusively for those who had purchased the Games Master NC Challenge tickets from the NC Mall. The GMC, short for Games Master Challenge, ran from November 24th to December 1st. On each day, players had unique challenges to complete. After AAA explained the mechanics to the GMC, he rightfully ended it with one of his infamous speeches: There's no shame in admitting that your gaming skills can't compare to mine. I admit I've never beaten AAA in some games. I, for one, underestimated this egotistic Blumaroo. The first set of challenges were easy peasy. I breezed through them so easily that unless you don't know what a keyboard or a mouse is, it's impossible for a player not to beat him. Well, maybe except that Techo Says game which made me wish there's only me and my computer in a deserted island and no earth people to talk to me about boring stuff like the cousin of my cousin of my cousin of my cousin getting a scholarship abroad and will soon be flying over yonder to take a degree on Extremely Bad Timing, hence distracting me from the important task of memory recall. (Kacheek! Kacheek! Blumaroo! Quiggle! HEY GUESS WHO GOT A SCHOLARSHIP BY TOTALLY NOT PLAYING POINTLESS INTERNET GAMES?!) The next game hindrance I encountered was the Wicked Wocky Wobble wherein I had to help this Red Wocky named Wallace catch and balance a series of random items hurtling down from the sky; the score to beat happened to be 200, which seemed fine to me until I ended up with a score of...  It wasn't working out you see... Alas by the time I got past the 200 mark, my hair felt significantly lighter probably from the exaggerated hair-pulling. One of the more annoying challenges, Meepit Juice Break, didn't give me a break either. AAA gave me two important lessons in life particularly 1) I am more of a writer than a gamer; and 2) do not judge a Blumaroo by his inferior fashion sense. Sniping: A Great Way To Earn NeopointsSniping is one of the neopoint-earning methods I've recently ventured, and it comes as no surprise when as I slowly got into it, I found my neopoints racking up and thought in a moment of epiphany, Wow! Why didn't I try this before? Am I stupid? How do you snipe? Firstly, you need either the SSW or the regular Shop Wizard. Secondly, you can search either a specific item by typing the item name and choosing identical to my phrase from the drop down or a general item by choosing containing my phrase. In order to find the cheapest items, refreshing is a must. Make sure to find out everything about an item's current price. Last but not least, practice a lot! My preferred snipes are avatar items, neggs, wearables, paint brushes, secret laboratory maps, and treasure maps. I don't see myself as an expert sniper, especially since most of the time I'm on dial-up (oh the agony!), but even a happy-go-lucky player like me can find some good stuff. Never give up! Wish All Year LongWhen I was younger, I've been told that if I jump as high as I could, the New Year would grant my wishes of growing taller. Gullibility is one of the characteristics I've carried through childhood and everything a grown-up told me I tend to believe; and seeing as I believed her, I felt betrayed that it never happened. Okay, I thought, so maybe physical growth isn't feasible. It's not like wishing would alter how molecules in my body function and make me grow taller. I kept wishing this time asking for simple things like passing the next exam or getting high grades for the year. While everyone made and broke their resolutions, I kept on making wishes for one reason: they came true! Eventually it dawned on me that these wishes are actually goals, which is closely related to resolutions. For every wish I made, a big part of me acted on it and made sure it came true. Perhaps if I just waited impatiently and greedily without doing anything, nothing would have happened. Upon this realization I've long stopped wishing every New Year. I do my wishing all throughout the year. Every New Year, I simply go out and enjoy that joyful mood coming from other people as the fireworks light up the sky. Below is a 3x6 advice grid. Nifty, isn't it?
