Blizzerd//Magnet of misfortune In a world where originality is priceless, you would think a yellow lupe would have no chance of survival. Being labled 'boring' and 'plain', Blizzerd has survived through the torment, finding success in his faults. However, no matter how plain he appears, Blizzerd seems to be a Magnet of Misfortune. CHAPTER ONE: The Yellow Pup What is wrong with him?" A voice barely distinguishable from the rustle of leaves or the trickle of water. "Why is he so... plain? Resting beside a pink lupess with white spots was a plain yellow lupe pup, born not more than minutes ago. A masculine voice answered. This was the pup's father; a split lupe with yellow wings. "I do not know, honey, maybe it is only temporary, and his patterns will be gained with time." He pondered this, and found it unlikely. His mate did not need to know that though. The mother burst out into tears. "But... but... he looks so boring! He will be fine. It is possible for him to be painted." The split lupe suggested, brows furrowed in confusion. But the mother had decided that they could not keep him. The pack they were part of could never accept such a lupe, so plain that he would disgrace the family. And so it was, that as the pack prepared to move on that day, a small yellow pup was left behind. --- Several scars marked the surface of the adolescent lupe's fur, obtained by sharp branches, rocks and even other creatures that had attacked him. Perhaps, if he were not scarred and if females of the species had been around, he would have been considered handsome, but the scars gave him appearance of a rogue. He bounded swiftly through the tall trees of the Meridell forest, persuing the trail of a brown meerca whom he desired to eat. His agile body wound between trees which seemed to have been placed hap-hazardly, as though they had been planted to make this hunt difficult for him. He knew the forest like the back of his paw and that was saying something as he aquired a new scar there almost every week. The sound of water lapping nearby told him the river was nearby, and he smirked. Soon there would be nowhere for the meerca to go. The trees thinned and at last, the meerca stood before him, whimpering and fearful with no where to go. Prepare to see your last-" Bliz began, his threat cut off by the sound of several trumpets. Turning in curiosity, the meerca found it's oppertunity to escape and wasted no time doing so. A royal announcement was always an interesting thing, so abandoning his search for food (he could always check the dump later) trotted in the direction of Meridell Castle. He had almost arrived, when he heard footsteps behind him. He turned, his eyes catching the tail of what he assumed was a brown lupe whisp behind some trees, in the opposite direction to him. He decided to follow the lupe later, for now he needed to listen to the announcement. Bending and twisting his agile body through the posts used in the stands, Bliz could hear very well all that was being said. He stopped for a moment, praying that the rustle of the clothed pets above him would end so he would listen. Neopets of Meridell. It's is a terrible thing that has happened to us. Food will no longer be accessible"--a murmur rose from the crowds--"and our water supplies are contaminated. If you wish to survive you must leave this land at once... --- CHAPTER TWO: Greyscale He wasted no time. He knew he must leave the land, but something about the grey lupe made him curious... he had to follow him. Bliz slinked out from under the stands and bounded back into the forest. He paused, howled a warning to the feral neopets that probably had not heard the announcement, and then swiftly continued. He passed the meerca he had persuited earlier, but this time he did not change his mind and run after it. He had to find that lupe. He paused once again and howled. Silence followed... and then he heard a reply. The grey lupe, just like him, was plain. Ruffled fur, scars... if it were not for the color they would be indistinguishable. They stared at each other for a moment, until the grey lupe spoke. "You are one like us. Alone... hungry... yet with a strong and agile body that goes to waste. If you join us, you will never remain like this. Bliz found this a little bit backwards, however, the grey lupe seemed genuine. He had gone through it too... the torment of being wild in the forest. He nodded, accepted the grey lupes offer. The grey lupe motioned for Bliz to follow him, and together they bounded through the forests, little conversationg between them, yet somehow by the end of their run they knew quite alot. The food supplies are dying? Water contaminated? Are you sure?" The grey lupe asked and Bliz nodded. "Aah, it doesn't matter. We are carnivorous. Bliz nodded again. "That may be true, but we eat herbavores. The grey lupe appeard defeated. "I am Jated." Bliz mentioned his own name. "Bliz, you must join us! We are a pack of purebred lupes. No gelupes or filthy multicolored freaks. Solid color lupes only. You would be a worthy addition to us. If you desire to survive, you simply can not turn us down. Bliz thought about everything that had happened to him. His world revolved around hating pets which were bright and vibrant... yet somehow he knew that they could not all be that way. And with a swift howl of contentment, Bliz had joined the pack. --- CHAPTER THREE: Pack Bliz and Jated arrived at the pack the next evening, the pack grounds alive with the midnight howls of the lupes. One particular female, a cocky purple one, strolled across to Jated. "You have returned with another? Jated, soon this pack will no longer be a secret! How could you have done this again? Jated bowed his maw. "All due respect, Plumea, it is I that leads this pack, not you. We must protect all that are like us. If we fail then there will be none of us left. And, if I did not have my collective ways, you would no longer be here either. Plumea looked stunned. This is Bliz, everyone. He is a great hunter, I observed him yesterday morning. Bliz lowered his head, and all the pack members greeted him with small comments. Pleased to meet you, I am Parick." said a red lupe who seemed as wise as Jated buy his fur seemed even more ruffled than Bliz's own. "Welcome, I'm Aqualia, but they call me Acky," said a orange lupess. Even Plumea muttered a quick 'hi'. Bliz also caught sight of a blue, pink and a green lupe lurking in the background. They greeted him too, but looked at him with concern. Pleasure to meet you all." Bliz replied to all at once. Jated nodded. "Our hunt must be reschedueled for tomorrow night... I must tell you all something. Parick and Aqualia exchanged nervous glances. For an ammount of disturbing minutes, where the pack members growled and snarled in fury, Jated told them all about this How can you be certain, Jated, after all, this newcomer may not be able to be trusted." Plumea said, outraged that such a plague could occur. Jated answered straight away. "I saw him head towards the castle. I am sure it is the truth. Tomorrow night we shall hunt anything we can find. I'm sure by now we are all hungry, but tommorow we shall feast. --- CHAPTER FOUR: Flame That night Bliz had vivid dreams. Bright colors sparked before his eyes, yellow being the most obvious. They swirled, before landing in a flooded area where only the top of a small hill could be seen. They formed Lupes, with outrageous colors and patterns, while others were solid colored. The flood grew vigorous, and while many fought for their lives, in the end only the plain lupes survived, floating on the limp bodies of their species... He awoke suddenly in the early morning. The sky was orange and steadily turning blue as the sun rose. There was not a cloud in the sky, to his great relief, as small flashes from his dream replayed in his mind. In fact, not only was the sky clear, but it was quite warm for that time of day, considering that the previous day had been cool. A harsh warm wind whipped across his face as he sat up, discovering that he was the only member of the pack awake. Something told him that something bad would happen. He layed down again, sprawled on the floor in the way he found coolest, and waited for the other pack members to awake. Not soon after, Plumea the purple lupess awoke. Bliz was not fond of her, she seemed so objective of his entrance and so rude to even Jated, she was difficult to be liked. He pretended to sleep while she stretched and began prodding Jated to awake. Jated!" She whispered, not daring to wake the others, "Jated, we must speak! I am afraid that allowing this... 'Bliz' into the pack may not be such a good idea..." Desperate to listen further, Bliz tried to soften his breathing. Jated stirred. "I do not care what you say, Plumea, this pack chose me as their leader, your foolish ways destroyed what loyal members we had, and the few that now remain still do not completely trust my judgement. You demolished everything our father had put into this pack. Bliz could not believe what he was hearing. Plumea and Jated where siblings? They seemed nothing alike, but it explained why Plumea was daring enough to speak against Jated. Plumea rolled her eyes. "But I know something's going on here! There's something just not right about Bliz! I don't trust him, and I don't see how you could. Jated sighed, stood up and arched his strong back. "Bliz is true of heart. Do not ask me how I know, but I can sense these things. Do not question my mother's blessing. The smell of smoke wafted to Bliz's nose, and every second that past seemed to grow warmer. Plumea seemed to sense the smoke too. "Do you-- smell something?" Immediately both turned to face the forest, heads turned up towards the tree tops to see the smoke rising quickly through the air. It's a fire!" Jated yelled, and began to howl to wake up the other pack members. Bliz finally found it safe to reveal that he was awake, and stood up. He aided Plumea and Jated in howling, nudging the other lupes to wake them, but not gently so they could barely feel it. We must leave this area now!" Plumea yelled, bounding off into the woods away from the fire, without turning back. The few lupes who remained loyal to Plumea from her apparent reign bounded after her, but the rest stayed with Jated. Aqualia's eyes were filled with tears. She was not accustomed to such heat, she prefered to live in the shade on even the coolest days. "Jated what do you want us to do?" She said desperately above the noise of the growing fire. We must run; towards the waters of Neopia. From there, I do not know, but it's the only plan we've got. Parick seemed to groan. "I am not as fit as I used to be, Jated, I do not think I will make it to the sea in time, the fire is sure to engulf me. Jated shook his head, he would not hear of it. "If you, Parick, my best friend and next in line to lead this pack if I fail, will not leave, then neither will our pack as a whole. If any of you," he said towards the other members including Bliz, "wish to leave, then you may do so, but the pack shall not continue. Bliz new he could not stay here, he valued his life more than his friends, as he had never been able to trust anyone before. Aqualia caught his eye. She needed to leave, but the rest of the pack members were too loyal to Jated and Parick to desert them at such a time. She could not cope in such conditions. Bliz made up his mind, without words he and Aqualia made an agreement to leave the area together. He took one last look at what could've been his home and family, and then bounded off beside the orange lupess. |
