Hello, guest! I suppose you are here because you are interested in one of the foster pets that have been fostered by Diane or Hikaru. Here you will find all the rules and tips for maximizing your chances at getting that pet you love.

Rules

Ah yes, the dreaded rules. Sadly, any adoption agency that doesn't wanna be flooded with noob mail must have some, but here at OYAA we try to make them short and sweet.

  1. Please be polite, and keep your language as proper and literate as you possibly can. Running your text through a WORD spellcheck doesn't take that long! And ALL CAPITALS or 1337 sp33k is annoying to read.
  2. Tell me what plans you have for the pet. This does NOT include things like feeding, playing and grooming. I will assume you do that with all your pets already if you are applying for another one, and that you will give it the basic treatment it deserves.

More-so, these are things I cannot have any guarantee that you will do. I also don't care if you battle or not with the pet, but on the other hand, if you plan to train him/her, or read books to him/her, then those are good things to say. Having proof (via trade/gallery) that you have the instruments to do this is even better.

  3. I do not ask for petpages. But if you surprise me with a nice, readable petpage application, you have more chances of being chosen. With readable I mean I don't have to highlight the text to make it viewable. I prefer a nicely formatted page with no images than one full of blinking, distracting ones. It's the content that matters most.
  4. I check all your accounts, and most importantly, your main, since it's the one that reflects who you are on Neopets. For this reason, I would appreciate that you include your usernames on your application. If youdon't want me checking them all, at least include your main account and the account where you will adopt my pet (if it's not the main one).
  5. In most cases, and due to the Neopets Pound rule, I require that the account you will adopt on be 4 months old, and have at the most 3 pets. I do not condone abandoning of unpainted pets to get a painted one. The whole idea behind adoptions is to find homes for abandoned pets, and I find it very sad when someone prefers to adopt a painted than keep an unpainted made by themselves.
  6. Do not offer to pay for a pet. This is against Neopets rules. If I am offering a painted pet, it is to find them a new home and not to make neopoints.
  7. Do not demand to be given a pet, or say you will cry if you are not chosen. This just makes me laugh, and reject your request.
  8. I require that you have some form of instant messaging system to do the transfer. I do not want to risk loosing the pet, and I should hope you think likewise. For this I have AIM, MSN, GTalk and Skype. You do not need to include your information in your original application, as I will ask this only of the chosen parent.
  9. Send your applications to damianlab, unless otherwise stated on the pet's lookup.

What I look for in a future Parent

This section is for those of you that want to know exactly what I want from the perfect applicant. If you are reading this, then I'll probably realize it in your application and if you comply with this then you're already approven as a finalist.

When I recieve an application neomail, I immediately check out the user's account, before reading their actual neomail, or look at the petpage application. I look for the following things in an account:

  1. A good ammount of scores, usually 15 or more is already good. I might even check to see how high your scores are. This gives me an idea of how much you play on the site.
  2. Trades, auctions, shops and galleries. I know not everyone wins neopoints from games, so I check to see how their shop is full, and what items there are on trades. I also like seeing if the person has a gallery, however small it may be.
  3. Neohome. Do you have one? Have any extensions? How many rooms? Furniture?
  4. Pets, petlookups and petpages. Are they happy? Sick? Do they have some form of lookup? Do they have friends, personalities? Have they been trained? Have they read books? Do they have petpages?

This last point is the most important part. I do not require a petpage application for this reason only. It is much better, in my eyes, that your other pets, the ones that live with you already, have a petpage and personality, maybe even custom looks. The pet you are applying for may not go to you, so I do not expect you to make something incredible for it. If your actual pets have petpages and personalities, it shows me what I can expect you to do for my own pet.
