Story

You step out into a clearing in a large forest. You think back to when you first entered, nearly a day ago. You look up at the sky. It's completely dark, with no moon and no stars for miles around. You don't have a good feeling about the field... like something tragic happened here long ago, but you are too tired to carry on. You see a small well and decide to sleep near it. As you walk toward it you notice a strange shadow on the other side.
You slowly walk closer, and look. You see a Shadow Uni. She is staring into a well. A tear falls down her dark face and into the well. When she notices you her dark purple eyes turn fire red. Then the anger falls from her eyes, leaving them the soft violet. Her purple mane flows in the wind, and she stretches dragonish wings, not like a normal uni's wings. Then she says,"Welcome to the Field of Mirages. I am Midnight, The Uni of Shadows, and probably the last survivor of the kingdom of Falyis. Why have you come here?" "I needed a place to rest." you answer. "Very well then, but I warn you, do not stay long, these trees are filled with werelupes and many terrible creatures that you couldn't even imagine in your worst nightmares." Then she goes back to looking into the well. Then you ask why she is looking into the well. She does not look at you but replies, "It shows you what you most desire." "What do you see?", you ask with much curiosity. "You should find some place comfortable to sit down, because it is a long story." she answers.
You say you want to hear it. You think, staring at her dragonlike wings and violet mane, that she was not born like this, and you want to hear what changes happened to her. "Very well," she says, turning to you, her mane swooshing behind her. "You shall learn of my sorrows. It began like this...
Some thousand years ago, I was born as a White Uni in the flourishing kingdom of Falyis. I never knew who my parents were they died when I was very young, so I went around the city and some nice merchants would occasionally hand me some food. But most of the time I went around the city stealing, I had to, to live. One day while walking around, I saw a small silver kougra drowning in a pond. A galloped over and pulled her out. It turned out to be the princess of Falyis, Laluzi! And from that day on we were the best of friends.
One day, I saw a strange ship at the docks. I told Laluzi, and we went to look at it. She left. I looked at the ship again. Suddenly it gave me an uneasy feeling, like something bad was about to happen. The next thing I knew Falyis was being destroyed by pirates! I galloped over to the palace. They pulled down the wall that was built around the palace and bashed open the door with a battering ram. I was overcome by despair as I heard a scream, and then silence. Was it Laluzi, now dead? I listened as they stormed the palace. Suddenly, I saw a silver kougra leaping from a window 20 feet above me... Laluzi was alive! I screamed at her to run and save herself, and so we fled together. We ran for the gate to Falyis, which was crumbling. Just when I thought we were free, A pirate uni attacked Laluzi and took her away. She screamed for me to run away, far away. I didn't want to leave her so I galloped up as fast as I could, but another pirate stopped me and held his blade to my neck. I paused, then turned around and ran out of the burning city. So I ran until I could not run anymore. Im not sure if they killed Laluzi or not... but they probably did. I never saw her again.
When I was far away from the ruined city I hid inside a ship. The ship went to Mystery Island. There I looked for Laluzi for many years. With no luck I decided to look for her in this forest. I searched but could not find her. So after almost 2,000 years of looking for her, I gave up and came here. What I see in the well is Laluzi, my lost and only friend.
You say, "That doesn't explain why you're a... shadow... uni.", glancing at her dragonish wings.
She sighs. "You truly wish to know? While I was still searching for Laluzi, I saw a purple light coming from a section of forest. Excited, I remembered how Laluzi's magic was either light blue or violet, so I followed the light. It led me not to Laluzi, but to The Darkest Faerie. I didn't know what she was. She asked, 'What brings you here, young neopet?'. I foolishly explained how I was searching for a lost friend, and cackling madly, she cursed me so even if I found Laluzi, she would never recognize me. I watched in horror as my silky white pelage turned dark as night, as my wings shed all their feathers and turned dragonish, and as my snowy mane turned as violet as the faeries eyes. As my eyes.
So I gave up, knowing what that evil faerie had said was true. I would never find Laluzi again, and if I did, she would not know me anymore. So I fled, crying, until I found the Well of Dreams. And so I remain here, mourning for my past... and my only friend, who was torn from me.
After a long silence, you say, "Why don't you go look for Laluzi again." She ponders a moment and then replies, mabey I should. But you must leave this forest very soon or you will be cursed like the others... You bid farewell to the uni, And watch her disapper into the shadows of the forest.
After you leave, the uni stops walking. She wonders if Laluzi is dead, what if her quest is futile? Then she decides she will not give up again, she will go on. And if Laluzi is dead so be it. She starts to walk again, passing endless legions of trees, passing by ponds and lakes, traveling leagues over and again.
After days of travling, she's exhausted, and collapses on to the ground, crying. "I'll never find Laluzi, It's hopeless!" she cried alound. Then she heard the crumple of leaves, behind her, she turned, and there before her was a two Werelupes.
She jumped up and galloped away, but the werelupes were at her tail. One of them jumped on her back and scratched her hard, she neighed in pain. And kicked the werelupe of in blind furry, knocking it into the other werelupe. Then Midnight jumped into the air and flew above the tree tops. The wind in her face felt so good, she had not flown since she lived in Falyis. She closed her eyes and enjoyed the momment. When she thought she was far enough away from the werelupes, she softly landed on the ground. She looked around her, and had a very weird feeling. Then as she started to walk she saw the remains of a huge building.
As her curiosity took over her she cautiously walked over to the ruins. She observed them, and with a jolt, she realized them for what they were. She had snuck around here before, and played in its gardens with Laluzi... and if Laluzi was alive, she would be here, in the ruins of the Falyis castle... The uni slowly steps over the broken, rusted remains of her home. All the small houses were gone except for the palace. She looks up Laluzi has to be here,The shadow uni walks up the crumbling steps,and walks throught the tall archway, Remembering all the times Laluzi and her would play in these, once beautiful halls. But now the halls were lonely and forgotten... She walked down the long, narrow hall that leads to the great hall and let her gaze wander all over the once magnificent remnant of her past. The golden tables and chairs were now tarnished and broken, and most of the statues were grimy and the jewels had fallen out years past. She looked at the throne and froze.
Laluzi...
It was not the Laluzi she remembered. Her fur was a deep magenta instead of the shining silver it was in a time long gone. She had two wings not unlike Midnight's new ones. Her paws and chest were green. But those two dreaming, faraway cyan eyes, eyes that now held a penetrating misery, were the same terrified ones she last looked into as they were bound and taken away...
guest was in this hall too, entranced as Laluzi wove the tale of her past. She was almost finished, and she spoke too quietly for Midnight to hear. She had always had an amazing voice, yet now it was weighed own with the burden of her misery. It was the same grief she, Midnight, had carried ever since she saw her whole world crumble as all her friends were burnt to death. But as she saw her long-lost friend Laluzi, although tainted with the curse of centuries, she felt it all wash away, as if she had awoken from a horrible nightmare. It was as if she would live all over again, and this grief she had felt for seven thousand years was only a dream, a shadow of life.
Finally, Laluzi stopped. She said something to guest, and then she looked and saw Midnight. Her eyes were glazed, and she whispered hoarsely, "Midnight?" Then she ran toward the uni and embraced her. Although fate had seperated them for seven thousand years, time could never truly pull them apart. Finally, Midnight stepped back and said, "Laluzi... what happened to you?" Laluzi smiled ruefully and said, "guest, your quarters are on the second floor in the room to the left. But for now, I think it's time for me to tell a story...

Midnight's Friends Laluzi Where do I begin? We have been friends for ages. Friends before the ruins I stand in fell into ashes, the ruins she was princess of. Falyis was still a glorious city, and most the existing worlds did not exist back then. But then the pirates came and killed all of us. Laluzi and I escaped, but we were seperated. I thought she was dead, but I finally know joy again because I have found her. Time can seperate us, I suppose, but it can never break us, nor pull us apart.

I met this uni while out looking for Laluzi she helped me find my way out of the firest,. without her, I would have never found Laluzi if it wasn't for her. She told me her sad story, you should probilly hear it too... I will never forgit it.
