*Bound by destiny
The story of Melaynnye*
The gentle chime of a clock rung out in a quiet tune as it struck midnight. The melody resounded peacefully throughout the house, the notes dancing with one another in the moonlit air... But just as all things come to end, suddenly, the peace was shattered like the large windows that framed the dim room. The soothing notes of the grandfather clock collided with an uproar of chaos and ruin, as they fought for dominance in that split second. But the victor was clear. The serene notes were drowned out, plummeting to the ground alongside the shards of glass that were glinting in the crimson glow of the flames.

Rose! ...Rose wake up! A woman screamed to her sleeping child as she bounded up the stairs. She stumbled over the last step, but kept right on running. Gasping, she slid across the hardwood floor, slamming into the door of the child's room and flinging it open. Rose you've got to wake up! She cried in utter distress as she shook the girl. She was beginning to sit up, when an explosion shook the house, sending shards of the last window flying in every direction. The mother lost her balance and fell to the floor, landing on her side amidst the pieces of glass, breaking it even more. Another explosion hit as the girl was thrown from her bed, colliding with the wood and glass that covered the floor. The room was engulfed in red and time seemed to come to a standstill. The house creaked and groaned under the stress as the flames continued to en-cage it. The mother pushed herself off the ground and stumbled to her feet, gathering the young girl off the floor. She took off as fast as she could, only to trip on some debris and fall again. The girl landed outside of her door, hitting the ground... And it all faded slowly away.

The forest was peaceful today, almost more so than usual... It was that kind of almost-silence that keeps you on your toes. A pair of ears shot straight up at the sound of a twig snapping under the foot of... themselves. Melaynnye sighed. You'd think I'd be used to that by now... he said to himself under his breath as he walked on. He was exploring the woods again today and he had resolved to go further than he did last time. Now let's see.... did I go this way last time? He pushed past some large leaves and vines... and was awed by what he saw. It was a dilapidated ruin of another village, much like his own.
The air was still acrid from the smoke of burning buildings and plants, and Mel put a hand to his mouth, coughing. In the span of about an hour he had looked through the majority of the buildings and found all sorts of intriguing objects and fragments. He entered yet another building, but this one seemed a bit different than the rest of them. He walked through what looked like the kitchen first... The table was still set for two.. He turned around and saw a cracked, charred grandfather clock. He ran his fingers down the side of the wood.. He remembered his mother saying she wanted this kind of clock... He continued to walk through rooms, all the while the crunching of glass filling his ears with each step.

What... happened here? he thought to himself as he ascended the last step on the splintered staircase. He walked forward into the last standing room in the house. The windows were all shattered and the breeze flowed in freely, blowing the tattered curtains gently. On the floor were all sorts of plushies... He assumed this was a girl's room. Directly beneath the window, he noticed an oddly long copper-colored scarf... but what was even more odd about it was the fact it was perfectly in-tact. He picked it up and stoked it a few times, clearing the dust that had gathered. I wonder what this is made out of... he said to himself, as he tried it on absentmindedly. He wrapped it around his neck once... twice... again... After he had his shoulders, neck, and half his face covered, he realized that the scarf was longer than he thought. Annoyed, he looked over his shoulder at the trail of scarf still on the floor. But not all of it was on the floor... The other end appeared to be caught on something as it bent upward. He slowly followed it up with his eyes... and he then met the gaze of a little girl who was wearing the other end of the scarf.

So from here...
Is summary until I actually get to finish :|
~*~
Mel lives in a small village in the time of a war. As it draws to its end, Mel is fighting his own war...
When Mel decides to explore the woods, he discovers a run down village... but little does he know that what he finds in this village will be a pivotal moment that will change his life forever. What he found was a scarf. It seemed simple to him at first as well... but after he tried it on it was much more than that. Attached to the scarf was the spirit of a little girl. Mel decides to call her by the name of Shadow.(You later find that she is the girl named Rose in the introduction.)
Mel continues to wear the scarf and the two become the best of friends in the passing year. After a while, she begins to wonder about whether she is truly dead or not, and that she would like to at least see her grave. They then begin to search for it, and continue to search for six months in vain. All the while they suspect more and more that she is really not dead and how to put her back in her body when they found it. They then catch wind of a young girl who has been in a coma for about five years. They suspect it to be her and decide to check it out.
A few days after their discovery, a woman with an odd ability moves into the village. She can somehow see Shadow. She reacts in alarm and begins alerting and gathering together the townspeople. Mel and Shadow are left with no other options but to run from the townspeople, but they don't give up their searching. Then, after almost a month of running, the townspeople finally capture the duo.... but after they explain the situation, they are allowed to carry on their search, and a few even offer their help.

About a year later, they finally find her body in the hospital. The two prepare themselves for the unknown as they return her to her body... She awakens safely, but has lost all memories of Melaynnye. Mel is of course heartbroken, and after returning her scarf and meeting her joyful mother, goes home in complete ruin. After about a week, he receives a letter from Shadow's parents informing him of her death, describing him as her only friend she could think of. Shocked, deeply upset, and immensely confused, he soon attends her funeral.

As the ceremony draws to a close, he is approached by Rose's mother and she gives him the scarf. He begins to walk away, and then decides to put it on one last time. He turns around... and is met by the embrace of Shadow.

Now for some explanation. XD The reason she died soon after returning to her body, is that (the way I made it up xD) when you return someone's consciousness/spirit to their body after being outside of it for a long time, the only get a certain amount of time back in their bodies, depending on how long they've been outside of it. At first only her consciousness was attached to the scarf (since the scarf was the last thing her father gave her before he went off to war), now she is a full ghost since she's actually passed.
