Acara:

The Acara is a race of playful creatures, who will defiantly not (In most cases) attempt to steal your wallet and spread embarrassing Christmas photos of you all over the Internet. Most Acaras live by the sea and enjoy playing Gormball often after a refreshing dive into water. Acaras are excellent treasure hunters and are an explorer's best friend.

.

Adam: One Hoopy Frood who knows where his towel is.

.

Aisha: An odd type of pet bent on ruling the world through their vending machine. They have extremely good hearing; accounted for by their extra set of ears, so don't whisper your anti-Aisha thoughts anywhere in the vicinity of one. Aishas also have a strange, and strong, liking for magic.

.

Asparagus: Asparagus is a green vegetable (not to be confused with broccoli, brussel sprouts, or celery though it looks to be a combination of the three of these) and is Borovan/Adam's favorite food. Though you may find asparagus to be disgusting and loathesome, when you dine at Borovan/Adam's house it is wiser to complement Adam/Borovan's cooking (as it consists entirely of asparagus-derived dishes) than to criticise it. If you do accidentally let an insult slip, it is best to run away screaming like a little child as Borovan/Adam chases after you with a large, limp stalk of his favorite food

.

Avatar/Neosignature Chat: This certain chatboard can be very interesting. If you have a towel (if you don't you will need to get one ASAP) make sure you have it in close reach at ALL times. This is a dangerous chatboard, and from my experiences, you might want to have 50 or more secret avatars found before you enter. The inhabitants of the Avatar/Neosignature chat don't hesitate in calling people 'n00bs'.

Inhabitants: The inhabitants of the Avatar/Neosignature chat are sometimes a fairly mild bunch. Calls of 'Avatar Simon Says!', 'Lending (insert avatar item here)!' can be heard throughout the board. Be careful though, sometimes you will find the dreaded Beggar on the board asking for a free avatar item. You may also find a generous ACer (avatar chatter) who will give you a free avatar item trusting that you will give it back.

Games and sources of fun: The games include Avatar Simon Says where you can try and match the Topic Hoster whenever they change avatars. Some winners get prizes. Screenies of how people got their hard to get Avatars are a source of fun too.

B

Battledome Board: The Battledome (BD) board is a place where you can find the… tougher Neopians. They tend to be tougher than the other Board inhabitants and get in to fights a lot. Inhabitants: the inhabitants are tough and if you have a weak pet, you would be better off NOT challenging anyone in the BD chat. They seem to like calling people with weak pets n00bs. Their hobbies include battling, talking about battling, finding people to battle, and during the war, complaining and/or praising the war. Fun: sources of fun are battling, talking about battling, and talking about weapons.

.

Blumaroo: The rumored offspring(Spring, Ha! get it?) of the famous T-I-Double-Guh-err, (if you know who I'm talking about...), Blumaroos have an affinity for bouncing around Neopia on their long tails, which are also good for giving a good thumping on the head, if the Blumaroo is inclined. Blumaroos are also very musical and, if asked, are always glad to hum a tune for you.

.

Bori: Bori(Should be noted that "Bori" Singular is the same as "Bori" Plural as it is with; Moose, Geese, and Harni (A Microscopic creature that lives on old tissues on the planet "Tronssacum")) are shy animals who are very much content with staying at home in front of a warm fire, (presuming they aren't ICE Bori) and reading an interesting book all afternoon, If you plan on visiting a Bori without calling first be sure to bring a pot of good tea along as the creatures do have sharp claws, normally used for digging, enjoy tea greatly, do not appreciate unexpected visitors, and any wounds sustained are very uncomfortable.

.

Budget Grooming and Feeding. Here in Neopia there are two kinds of owner; those that care for their pet's health, mood and general wellbeing, and those that don't. For the less well off Neopian there are many avenues of feeding, grooming and taking care of your beloved neopet. Firstly, buy your pet a plushie, the cheapest you can hope to get is the blue Ixi plushie that comes free with all newbie packs. If you have already misplaced, lost or destroyed this plushie then the next cheapest is the headless von roo plushie at 1np. "But it's hideous" I hear you say, yes I agree it is hideous. So another cheap alternative is the range of Quiggle plushies, most coming in at 10np.

For those of you wishing to keep your pet looking a million bucks without spending it, I suggest investing in an Illusens comb or Jhudoras brush. Both these products can be bought for under 10 np and are generally liked by the neopets. If your pet, like mine is finicky, chose a different colour eyeshadow, you're bound to find one your pet likes. For those of you with distinctly less girly neopets, I recommend inexpensive hair-gel, usually goes for 80np. An added bonus to keeping your pet well groomed is, it is far less likely to become sick as the result of a random event, this is a further cost saver as those medicines can be pricy.

To keep your pet well fed without spending a small fortune, I suggest you don't join the gourmet club. Instead feed your pet exclusively on free jellies and omelettes. These can be found once a day with a little hunting. If you would rather your pet eat something a little healthier, I suggest homemade marmalade, musho mushy peas and bagguss, each at under 5 np. For those of you with slightly more deviant pets, may I suggest a diet of inexpensive sun dried techo claws and blumaroo steaks? Yes, slightly cannibalistic if eaten by techos and blumaroos, but what's to stop the other neopet species enjoying a delicacy?

Buzz: A quick flying pet that is not above nipping fruit off farmers' trees and showing off their amazing speed and acrobatic skills. All Buzzes went under a startling transformation one night and turned from a Fly Eye to what you see today.

Chat Boards: The chat boards are places you should ALWAYS bring your towel to. You never know what kind of trouble you may get in to. The folowing entries will give you some insight into what you should expect when going to each board.

Hint: with spicy juppie cheese, always choose either "dive left" or "dive right." ---(Field Researcher: Fraze)

Dirigibles: Dirigibles. What an interesting name. Just who is this programmer, and why does the picture of him on his lookup appear strangely studly, when he must spend most of his time programming the site? This Hitchhiker's Guide researcher decided to go straight to the source and ask him firsthand.

Hitchhiker's Guide to Neopets: So, Mr. Dirigibles, for someone so important to the site, you don't seem to get that much publicity. What is it like working behind the scenes?

Dirigibles: Don't...don't say that. You'll hurt my feelings.

HG: I'm sorry! I just meant, don't you think you deserve more publicity for the work you do?

D: Yes, but no one will give it to me. I'm not Adam or Donna, after all. I just slave away diligently, behind the scenes, never a thank-you or a well-done from anyone.

HG: Oh, wow, I'm so sorry for you...

D: No, no, it's all right. It's not like I deserve anything better.

HG: Uhh...umm...oh! I know! What is your favorite band?

D: Led Zeppelin.

HG: That was a joke, wasn't it?

D: Yes, for anyone who actually knows what zeppelins and dirigibles are.

HG: Well, that wraps it up for now. Thank you for a very...ummmm...e-enjoyable interview.

D: You're welcome. If you'll excuse me, I am late for my weekly treatment.

HG: I don't think I should ask...Well, that's it for now. You'll be hearing from me again, only at The Hitchhiker's Guide to Neopets!

Dr. Frank Sloth: Mastermind, Evil leader, and some kind of fruit or vegetable. Dr. Frank Sloth is one of Neopias most hated and loved characters. He was there when the first neopet was created and he will be there when your neopets are born 0_0 (note that the fact he was there when the first neopet was created dispells your filthy chia rumours which were if I may say FILTHY). When he is not coming up with an evil plan of some sort he loves performing weird experiments on whatever is at hand or killing staff members in old mansions. He was last spotted crying at a drink stand on Mystery Island about his cancelled plot and screaming something about "that cursed Usul thinks she so awesome... Maybe I sould don a dress and sing!" This Is Pokeball191 "May the Towel be with you".

Fraze: In the darkened house of one Neopian, a solitary figure sits at an illuminated computer screen, typing a melodramatic article about himself. Many might think this figure is a bit too old to continue visiting the world of Neopia. They might also think he is the wrong gender. But this figure enjoys Neopets nonetheless. People who meet this figure directly know him as Frazier; people who meet him on Neopets know him as frazeocity. The first thing you would notice about Fraze would either be his height or his glasses. The next thing you would notice about him is his vibrant aura of nerdishness.

Fraze has a curious obsession--curious even on a website filled with curious obsessions. He is obsessed with documenting various aspects of the Neopets site. When he finds something he wants to record, he scribbles it down on one of a number of sheets of looseleaf paper bound together by a red plastic grip. For the longest time, this makeshift notebook was only known to himself, but eventually, he decided he should share what he has learned about the site with his fellow Neopians. So he visits the boards, trying to find people who need help with game cheats or Cheeseroller Cheeses so he can dump all of his 50† cheats or his complete collection of Cheeseroller Cheeses on his unsuspecting victi--I mean, greatful people.

He must go, the night draws on. Technically, it is day where he is, and while he is one to nitpick, he doesn't want to do it on the computer.

Garin: Garin is probably one of the more notable characters ever in Neopets history. Why you may ask? It is all since he is…. (drum roll) A MALE USUL! (enter elephants and clowns and allow parade music to play in your head at this point and then compare his pictures with Hannah's for a good laugh) This little girls (oh, sorry) BOYS dream as a child was to be a pirate with her boyfriend Jacques. Which came true and he got a my Barbie's dream boat! He calls it the Black Pawkeet. He then meets Isca the magic fish and finds out about Maraqua! Shortly after he angers Mr. Scarblade who is a lupe who says he destroyed Maraqua even though we all know it was a skeleton Kiko thing! WATCH THE OLD VIDEO NOOB! After the many amazing pirate battles and awesome swordplay majiggers he is imprisoned for returning to Maraqua and manages to get Isca banished………YAY! Enter the munchkins!

Help Chat: The Help Chat, or HC, is a dangerous place sometimes. You may need a full size towel when traveling there. The Inhabitants of the HC are usually mild mannered and docile, though when a Beggar, Liar, Spammer or Scammer is found there, their aggressive and ferocious nature soon shows. Boards there are unfotunatelky mostly spam. RS (restocking) and various 'waiting room' chats are popular there. I suggest staying away from the HC during any glitch, time when the news is late in being updated by the Vogons (TNT) or when the limited edition pets that were promised to be released, haven't been released. Source of fun: the source of fun varies. Most HCers like to get into arguments, flaming n00bs is a fun past time, as well as viewing screenies.

Jacques: Much like Garin he is a unique character since he is a Kyrii which you hav'nt seen since that old game with the Mummy Scorchios. Oh yea and GTU which was meh! Of course the Kyrii is getting a makeover soon so maybe Jacques looks kind of different because he is one of the new ones. BACK ON SUBJECT! Jacques is like the main sword wielding death fodder in this story but he wont die! Since he's Garin's first mate he automatically gets an immunity necklace! He hasn't done really anything so far except lead the other death fodder into battle once.

Laywerbot: Of all the neopian staff, Lawyerbot is by far the most cryptic. While there are Neopets monitors such as borovan, donna, and snowbunny, and programmers such as dirigibles and snarkie, lawyerbot is the one and only Neopets lawyer. Who is this mysterious metallic figure? To find out, this Hitchhiker's Guide to Neopets reporter went straight to the man himself, requesting an interview.

Hitchhiker's Guide to Neopets: So, Mr. Lawyerbot, what is it like being...you know...Lawyerbot?

Lawyerbot: Please elaborate.

HG: Uhh...how does it feel to be Lawyerbot, the only Neopets lawyer?

L: My circuits are not programmed to experience "feelings."

HG: All right...uhh....................well...umm...what is your job exactly?

L: I am responsible for making sure no one violates Neopets, Inc.'s copyrights. I also make sure no one files lawsuits against the company.

HG: Why would anyone file lawsuits against Neopets?

L: I am not at liberty to disclose that information. All I am allowed to say is that it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that a few of the garden gnome neohome accessories have been known to come to life, jump out of a user's computer, and do damage to the user's person and property.

HG: Well, uhh...I think that just about covers it. Thank you very much, Mr. Lawyerbot.

L: I am not programmed to reciprocate gratitude.

Mary_the_penguin: Despite the name, Mary is not a penguin. Instead, she is a somewhat busy, somewhat obsessive university student. She can often be found warming her frozen hands on a mug of coffee in the perpetual gloom of her computer room. The natural habitat of mary_the_penguin is, in short, the inside of a sleeping bag. She ventures out at pre-appointed times to teach primary school children or attend university lectures, if she could do these things in a sleeping bag, she would. Be careful, she does sometimes bite. If bitten seek immediate medical attention. :)

N

.

N00b: The N00b's main purpose is to lie and steal from the residents of Neopia. But since the N00b isn't exactly bright, most of them fail. N00bs have told people to hand over all of their money, items and pets, or they will be banished from Neopia. N00bs don't have to power to do this, though, so the demands are usually laughed at. N00bs try to disguise themselves, saying that their items or money were stolen, so the good people of Neopia should help. They'll make themselves look younger, and play on the sympathy of older residents.

In short; be wary of the N00b. Any wounds sustained by responding to their shrill, dentist's-drill-like cries will never heal. Be wise, and be careful.

Neopets Staff:

Theneopetsteam--the Neopets' staff's official account--Some love it, some despise it. Its avatar is one-of-a-kind.

Borovan--neopets monitor--co-creator of Neopets. A mysterious figure, an asparagus lover who, in his own words, smells of poo. Take a peek at the Neocam random pic "Neopets goes live!" and you will see an acne daily cleanser--presumably, borovan once had zits.

Donna--neopets monitor--co-creator of Neopets, someone has something against her...but we don't know what.

Snowbunny--neopets monitor--possibly descended from the famed petpet? No one knows.

Jmorpheous--neopets monitor--related to the similarly-named character from the Matrix?

Nt_editor--neopets monitor--originally dedicated to reading Neopian Times submissions, the account has long been inactive.

Lawyerbot--neopets lawyer--see Guide article for a more in-depth look at this strange, electronic character. Related to Marvin, the famed robot of the book series on which this guide is based? Maybe.

Dirigibles--neopets programmer--see Guide article for a more in-depth look at this blimp-obsessed person.

Snarkie--neopets programmer--little is known about this mysterious figure. Quite possibly, she is hiding something behind that bandanna of hers.

Djskellington--neopets monitor--seriously, what are those things on his lookup?

Dom_dread--monitor--a morose-looking character, possibly suffering from depression. Or maybe he's still brooding over his loss of the Deckball Championships. It's time to move on, guy!

Obrodhage--monitor--better known as (drumroll)......ThePhantomOrangeShirtGuy! This most mysterious of characters has tantalized many a neopian by popping up in so many games. Possibly my long-lost relative, as I have often been known to wear an orange shirt myself. His real name is Oliver.

Dirtside--programmer--better known as Mr. Insane, the famed creator of Neoquest and Neoquest II.

That's it! This is Fraze, for The Hitchhiker's Guide to Neopets, signing off.

Neopian Writers Chat As with all the neoboards, the Neopian Writers (NW) Chat is a place you most certainly want to take your towel to. But, the NW is the only place (other than the newbies board) that you could create a board saying "I have my towel with me," and not be reported for spamming.

But I am getting ahead of myself. I must start at the beginning. There are not many people on the NW, so don't expect to have too many people to talk with at any one time. There is a dearth of non-writing-related boards on the NW. Boards with titles such as "Why do people enjoy long hair?" "Wow. I'm happy." and "I have six mosquito bites in counting." (keep in mind, these are all real titles found in the NW, all within the top 8 topics). However, if you make any mention of this, a debate will arise. A debate between those who believe that the NW is only for discussing literature, and those who believe that it is simply a place for writers to chat. A debate so fierce, so vicious, so brutal, that the experience of surviving one of them (IF you survive) makes a trip through the Total Perspective Vortex seem like a luxury cruise in comparison.

There are, however, plenty of literature/writing-related boards as well. If yo wish to discuss why you brought your towel along with you, and how it relates to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, this is the place for you. There are a few board topics and topic terms you should know. "Writer's Chats," "Writer's Cafe," "Poetry Cafe," and other topics show that the board is a place for people to discuss things they have written, or ask for help on things they are writing. There are also boards asking for "literate" writers. As far as I can tell, "literate" in this case means "no chatspeak."

Now I come to the writing you are likely to find on this board. In fact, most of the literature being discussed on the NW are things that people on the NW have written. The majority of this is poetry; but there is some prose. The majority of the poetry is repetitive: depressed, world-weary, "emoetry," in my terms. The prose is more varied, although the majority of it is fantasy, sci-fi, and fanfiction.

Before I leave, I must bore you with one more, rather important, piece of advice. There are cliques on the NW, and often, the majority of the non-writing-related boards to be found on the NW are created by these cliques. This is not so bad, except that the cliques, from my experience, tend to ignore people outside their cliques. There are telltale signs that you are on a clique board, if you see at least two of these criteria, back away from the board slowly: 1) many people posting on a clique board have the default avatar, 2) people posting on a clique board call each other by names that are not people's usernames, 3) clique boards usually have only 2 or 3 people on them, 4) clique board posts usually consist of small, seemingly disjointed phrases.

This is Fraze, for the Hitchhiker's Guide to Neopets, signing out and going into hiding before he is tarred and feathered by a hoard of angry NWers for his discourse on their--OH, JEEZ, THEY'RE COMING!!!

Secret Laboratory: In a faraway and secret room, there sits a scorchio, not an ordinary scorchio. This scorchio, sitting with his tousled hair and white lab coat is by all standards mad. He has created a ray gun so mysterious it can change a pet's gender in a flash.

Many seek the mysterious lab ray, but only those who have collected the 9 separate and unique pieces of secret laboratory map may enter. When searching for these pieces it is often wise to spell correctly, secret laboratory map piece will do. However if you must abbreviate, secret lab will do just fine if used in conjunction with the "containing my phrase" option on the shop wiz.

For those of you lucky enough to find a piece of secret laboratory map during a random event, you have saved yourself upwards of 48,000 np. For unknown reasons all the pieces are called secret laboratory map piece. To find the real identity of your piece, right click and go to properties, this will allow you to see the number of the piece in question. You will only be allowed in with all 9 different pieces. Be aware that pieces 2 and 6 often cost more than the others.

To gain admission to the secret laboratory, you must have all 9 pieces in your inventory and then go to games, puzzles, treasure maps, laboratory. Or just go here http://petpages.neopets.com/games/treasure.phtml?type=lab

The lab has the power to raise or lower levels, strength, hit points, movement and defence. It cannot affect intelligence. As a general rule the ray will increase stats more often than it will lower them, it does have a tendency to lower defence points more than other stats. The ray will also change your pet's gender, which is often unfortunate. It may also change species and colour. However it is very unlikely to do draik or krawk, it could happen, it's just not likely. The lab is the only means currently for you to paint your pet sponge, robot or snot. It will not paint your pet royal or baby :(

As a final tip, it is rumored that the lab will not zap your pet down to level 1 if it is above level 10 at time of zapping. This has worked well so far for myself. It would be prudent to first train your pet up to level 10 before zapping, if level is important to you.

Taelia the Snow Faerie:

Taelia the Snow Faerie came to the winter lands of Terror Mountain long ago. While the other Faeries gave her strange looks, wondering why she went to the frozen climbs of Neopia, she gave them no regard.

She packed up her things and moved out to where the blistering winds blow and the snow covers the ground every day of the year. Taelia uses her magic to keep the wildest winds from finding the villages. When Neopians get lost in the storms, she leads them home.

The other Faeries still give her strange looks, but she doesn't see them. She's too busy walking the wintery hills, wrapped in her magical furs, looking for those who have lost their way in the snow.

Taelia the Snow Faerie has quests on the top of Terror Mountain. Difficulty is Variable. The last time i preformed one of her quests i completed it for only 2000NPS!!!!.

I was rewarded 4569NPS!!! An Evil Snowball (7-10NPS) and a Rotten Carrot (65-150NPS) These are not sale related.

200m Peanut dash: 200m Peanut dash The aim of the game is to blast a peanut a great distance over some very conveniently placed logs, and then catch it. You do this by taking control of the yellow Elephantee's trunk. To get into theme, make a V for victory sigh with your right hand. Place these fingers on the left and right arrow keys. Now wobble your hand so that the keys get pressed very fast and at the same time. This will build up power in the trunk. It is best to get into a steady rhythm to achieve maximum power. "But my fingers are sore" I hear you exclaim in dismay, don't worry, mine were too at first, your muscles will change to suit the game. To fire the peanut, press the up arrow, only do this when you are as close to maximum power as your tired little fingers can get. Now it's time to race your Puppyblew all the way to the end of the track in close pursuit of the peanut. Use the right arrow to position the Puppeyblew under the peanut's shadow. Now get ready to jump! For beginners I suggest using the right, up, left combination. This means that before you come to the log you press the right then the up arrow keys, as soon as you see the log press the left arrow key. You can't go wrong with that combination, just be sure not to let the Puppyblew creep forward too much, if it's getting out from under the peanut's shadow, just use the arrow keys quickly to reposition it. You get points for 1. Achieving high power, 2. Leaping over the logs (there are usually five) and 3. Catching the peanut. To get as many points from the game as possible, use the right – left – right – left – up combination to catch the peanut, this will give you a bonus 50 points.
