Collection & IDC Updates

August 9th, 2011: Krawk Island Stamp Set is now available to begin placing your stamps in! Granted there is only one stamp at the moment, I have a feeling many are going to be after completing this set!

Mario's Collection History

I have created an entire page dedicated to collecting, giving out hints and tips, and helping members; however, I am sure you may be wondering what makes me know a good amount about collecting compared to another member! Although there are other experienced collectors in Neopia, I consider myself to be knowledgeable on the topic due to my collecting history. Without getting too boring and long, below are my collections which I have had and currently still possess.

Gallery Collections

Although I have had my fair share of galleries in the past, having about 20-30 different collections in one year, I finally began to settle down and stop changing. As a result, I am now a Three Time Gallery Spotlight Winner. Below are the collections which I have won for.

Items of the TCG (#358): This was my first spotlight win and probably my most unique idea for a gallery. I collected TCG cards and would pair them with the real item. Many users loved this idea, and I still get compliments on it to this day.

The Caverns of Moltara (#361): This won gallery spotlight shortly after the discovery of Moltara. I fell in love the day it was discovered and began my collection then. This was the first Moltara gallery to win the spotlight and currently the largest collection on Neopets.

NCC Prize Collection (#442): My latest spotlight winner and ironically I have had this collection longer than my other spotlight galleries. This collection is always 100% complete until new NCC prizes are released. This is currently the only known complete NCC gallery on Neopets.

Stamp Collection

This was an extremely difficult collection for me to begin; however, once I put that first expensive stamp in my Album, I was hooked! I began collecting stamps in 2009. Considering how long stamps have been around, I am not a veteran; however, I have obtained a fair amount of stamps (and some avatars) in that time.

My first stamp set to complete was the Sea Shell portion. It was fairly cheap (under 3 million total) and I was very excited to have that done. Shortly after, I obtained a Sticky Snowflake Stamp for a "cheaper" price, still many millions, and instead of selling it, I put it into my album to eventually obtain the Snowy Valley Avatar. I then continued to add more and more stamps into my album and I hold my place on the High Score Table. I am always on the Top 30 list, and as long as I keep up my collection, I should not fall off.

I currently have obtained two stamp avatars, and hope to obtain more in the future!

Total Cost: 225 Million
Total Cost: 110 Million

NeoDeck Collection

Although this type of collection has never been quite popular, I started to collect cards in January 2011. My main reason for doing so was simply because it was a portion of collecting I had not yet achieved! I slowly began purchasing all the cards and surpassed 300. I took a break from card collecting for quite a while, and allowed my deck to obtain dust.

The Neopets Team the surprised many users by creating a High Score Table for card collecting! I was extremely excited that I have already been collecting prior to the release of the trophies. I eventually got the Silver Place trophy and have taken another break in card collecting. I hope to eventually have a complete deck, but that is in the far future.

Frequently Asked Questions

I constantly receive neomails with certain questions or information some users are pondering about. Please feel free to read the questions below, as they may help you with certain aspects of the site or answer a question you were going to ask, thank you!

You said you won Gallery Spotlight three times, but you only have two wins on your userlookup?
Unfortunately I did not get one of my trophies put onto my main account. When I won gallery spotlight for my Moltara Gallery, the trophy was placed onto that account (username: Moltarra). You can go there to view it.

How much did it cost to get your Stamp Trophy?
At the current moment (with 525 Stamps), I have spent well over 550 Million total. This can vary between users as one stamp can cost 1np-300 million, so everyone is a little different. That amount also got me two stamp avatars.

Do you have any advice for me to win a Gallery Spotlight?
Just be a dedicated collector, and do not give up! Make sure your gallery is extremely organized, and if possible, a nice layout (it is not needed, but helps!). Another aspect to consider is that when you submit your gallery, they will see your "View All" Gallery, so make sure to have that organized well! If it looks a mess, or if you have multiple galleries in one, it could greatly affect your chance of winning.

Can I borrow your NeoDeck Cards for a trophy?
If I know you, or you have the proper collateral, I will lend you a card or two to help. I unfortunately will not lend you dozens, hundreds, or even my entire set to get you a trophy. Honestly I am just too lazy to transfer all those items back and forth. Also, if you want the trophy, you should at least (in my opinion) have a base deck of your own, and if needed, borrow a few cards to push you into trophy position.

Do you love to play MarioKart?!
I am actually a big fan of playing that game! I've originally played it on N64, which is when I first became obsessed. I have also played it on the gameboy version, which I was not a fan. Years ago, I played it on Dreamcast, and I fell in love with that version...I hope they release that for another system. The newest addition is for the Wii! I love it so much, I cannot get enough! I used to play with the wheel, but not anymore...I am not as good since I dont have much time to play these days, but I still love it.

Gallery Themes

Neopets has been around for well over ten years, which means they have created a plethora of different items for any user to collect. It can be quite overwhelming at first to decide what type of theme you should go with for your gallery; however, once you sit down and think about it, it becomes a lot easier than you expected!

No one can decide what gallery theme is right for you, only you can pick what you would love! It is extremely important to create a gallery with a theme you truly enjoy. I cannot tell you how many times I have witnessed a user create a gallery around a rare item they obtained, and then one week later, sell everything. I cannot lie, I have fallen into that category myself when I began collecting. That is one of the worst mistakes you could make when thinking about a gallery. If you care to read a bit more in depth about the process of creating a gallery, please click here to read my gallery guide.

Below I have provided a list of different types of common and uncommon gallery themes. I dont expect anyone to read the choices below and pick a theme I stated, as that is against what I said. The reason I list certain themes is because it can get you to start thinking and realizing just how many gallery themes you could create.

Neopian Worlds: Although common, you can create a gallery 100% dedicated to a particular world (Haunted Woods, Moltara, Faerieland, etc.) or take a certain aspect of that world!

Pets, Pets Pets!: Even though this theme is extremely common, this website is called Neopets, so many users tend to create a gallery dedicated to their favorite pet.

Colors:This is one of my personal favorites to see since it is so pretty on the eye if done properly! You can either collect only one type of color (Blue, Red, Black, etc.) or you can collect random items to create a rainbow affect and organize the correctly.

Treasure Box:This is extremely common for users to create, as there it involves no specific theme. You simply place items you've gathered on your travels around Neopia and place them together in your gallery. Some users have completely random items, while others focus on cuter items. It is completely up to you, but it is usually a random group of items in the viewers eye. Be careful with this type of collection though, as you will probably not win Gallery Spotlight from it and many users end up selling this type of collection quick.

Random Items:This is an extremely broad theme since it incorporates so many different items throughout Neopets. Most galleries created are focused on a particular type of items, so I have listed a few item topics which you can think about...

• Avatar Items: All, Expensive Items, Pet Related, Retired...
• Battling: All, Swords, Shields, Amulets...
• Books: All, Rarity Specific, Colors...
• Clothes: All, Shirts, Pants, Glasses, Hats, Necklaces...
• Collectable Cards: All, Blue, Red, Green, Pink, Black, Gold, Silver...
• Electronics: All, Telephones, Clocks, Lights...
• Elements: All, Air, Dark, Earth, Fire, Light, Water...

• Faerie Quests: All, Jhudora, Illusen...
• Food: All, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Drinks, Chocolate...
• Games: All, Daily Dare, AAA/Abigail, New Games...
• Gardening: All, Water, Plants, Furniture...

• Wearables: All, Backgrounds, Foregrounds, Clothing...

Neomail me if you have any other themes which you think others can benefit from.

Winning Gallery Spotlight

As a gallery collector, one of your main goals is to win the weekly gallery spotlight on Neopets! Here I will share some information regarding how to win and judge your own collection!

Gallery Expenses

This article was placed into the Neopian Times Issue #480

One of the biggest hardships to endure as an extreme collector are the funds needed to support your habit! This section is designed to help you open your eyes to particular methods which may benefit you. This is not a how to get rich guide. Although I will describe some great methods, it is important to remember that your personal experience in a particular method will make you more successful. I am just giving you ideas to then feed on and work with.

There are some users who strictly collect, and it is their passion, while others collect as a "side job" or a smaller interest. The users who are not 100% dedicated to collecting usually have an easier time creating funds. They do not dedicate their entire wealth towards a gallery collection and they may have plenty in stocks, malling, battling, etc. To the users who are extremely dedicated 100% to collection, take a seat, because the rest of this guide is for you! I know everyone has their own methods of creating NP, and whatever method works for you is best for you to stick with. The longer you stay with a method, the better you will be at it! Nothing is better than personal experience!

Since we all have the same dedication in Neopia, us collectors seem to have the same pattern when it comes to obtaining and spending NP. We usually try to make due with what we have, spend 95% of it on items, gallery expansion, etc. involving the gallery, while the other 5% is used towards obtaining more NP. This is usually a rough area to be in because one of the main keys to becoming wealthy, and keeping your wealth is the amount of NP you are using. The only exception to this rule are restockers!. If you can successfully make an amount of NP you are happy with by restocking, then this rule will not apply to you. Whether you have 100,000 NP or 10,000,000 NP, the prices of the items are usually no higher than 100,000 NP, so having tons more will not benefit you for profiting. To everyone else, it is important to have a fair share of NP on hand to make money with, and here is why.

One of the best methods to keep your funds growing is by investing! Owning a gallery collection is a form of investing, so you already have some experience if you have never invested before. Users have been investing for many, many years. Most of the richest players you see on this site today came into their wealth from investing. Investing many years ago had bigger results than they do today; however, you can still make a good amount of money. Investing is a method which involves buying particular items which you care to "invest" your money into hoping that a certain amount of time later, it will increase in value, and you can sell for a profit. The general rule with investing is the more NP you can invest with, the more profit you will generate. If you have 100,000 NP total, you can only invest in one larger item around that price, or a few smaller items, maybe around 10,000 NP each. Chances of those items skyrocketing in prices are so slim, it is almost worthless. If you have 10,000,000-20,000,000+ NP, you are able to obtain many more items, high and lower values, which have a much greater chance of fluctuating in price, and that price change will reap a bigger profit. It is a marketing idea; however, it is also common sense. The second aspect of collecting, which is where most people fail, is WHAT to invest in! Now, I have been investing for well over five years, and I could sit here and write pages on the types of items to invest, when to invest, why, what, who...etc; however, I will not! As I have stated earlier, the best way to grow in a method is through personal experience, and that is how I learned. I could type it all up, yet you will only learn by the mistakes you make and the rewards you receive. I will give you five tips on what types of items to invest in though.

• Investments = Prices Increasing - So think about what needs to occur in order for a price to skyrocket, and see what items fall into that category.
• Remember...you are not the only investor on Neopets! If you think of something to invest in, chances are hundreds or even thousands (if obvious) are and already have invested in that same item.
• Neopets tend to have its own waves of obsession and dedication. They used to be 100% focused on The Battledome; however, that is no longer the case. The NC Mall is currently quite popular because wearables are wanted by millions of users.
• Quantity v. Quality: You can either invest in many many smaller items, hope they slightly change and then sell them all, or buy one or two larger items, and wait for those prices to change to sell. Decide which one, OR BOTH, suits you best and stick with it!
• PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE! Do NOT expect to buy items and a week later make millions. It could be as short as a week (rarely) or as long as 6-9 months to a year or a few years!

Try to keep those tips in mind when you are searching for investment ideas. These are only a few things to keep in mind, as there is more, but that comes with experience. This is not a method everyone likes, mainly due to the patience aspect; however, it can be quite rewarding. When I began investing, I did not see any profit for over a year. The items I invested in took a while to increase; however, every week or so, I would keep buying items to invest in (I used Trading as my main source of income then) and then once I hit my year mark, the prices increased, and I was able to start selling items! Once I hit that mark, it was a never ending cycle. For example, items I bought in Jan 05, I sold in Jan 06, which gave me profit. I would then sell items in Feb 06 which I bought in Feb 05, and the cycle would continue. I did not do exactly one year each month, but just to give you an idea that if you keep investing, the cycle will continue and you will always have items to sell, which can be a problem if you are not an experienced Trader...WHICH leads me to the next section of this guide!

If the investment idea is not something you can find yourself interested in, then you may want to consider Trading. It is important to keep in mind that the more experience you have, the better you become. Also remember that thousands and thousands of users make their profits from Trading, so you are not alone in that field. Just because you make money trading does not mean you are a "reseller." In my mind, a reseller is someone who buys a few cheap items, and then "quicksells" them for a quick profit. That is a method of creating NP; however, it is looked down upon and you will get bashed by users since you may offer extremely low on items. My method I propose to try is simply trading at its finest. Obviously all methods of trading revolve around "buy low and sell high." What makes this method different than reselling is the patience. Similar to investing, there is a waiting factor that would happen regardless of what field of trading you become involved in (yes, you can focus on certain areas - I will discuss shortly). You need to always remember a simple rule: There are always users who need NP and others who need items. This is a rule to live by when being a trader. You will commonly find users say they will sell an item cheaper because they need "pure NP" for personal reasons. You can then purchase that item at a discount, and then wait until you come in contact with someone who needs that item and sell for the regular price (I hope that made sense). Waiting to find someone who needs your item is the tough part, but it is possible if you advertise what you are selling all the time, so all users can see what you have for sale!

As I said earlier, there are multiple fields you can focus on in trading. I have been trading for five to six, to maybe even seven years now? I do not know, but it has been many years. I have focused on different areas in trading; however, I found my niche just as you will once you try! Here are a few different areas you can focus on:

• Easy to Sell (ETS) Items: These are your always wanted items. Hidden Tower, Good Weapons, Popular/Always Liked items. This area generally has a LOW wait time.
• Hard to Sell (HTS) Items: This is a very broad term, but basically anything that may take extra time to sell, whether it be rarity 101, code items, plot award, etc. This can tend to have a high wait time (I've had some items for over a year).
• Item Specific: If you used to be obsessed with NeoHomes, and know the items well, you could focus on just trading those items. This is great because other users will know your specialty and will contact you automatically if they need any item within your range.
• Rarities of Neopia (As I like to call it): These are your items which almost do not even exist anymore. Most people do not own these, and may have never heard of these. This is a harder field to get into, as it can be hard to come across these items; however, it can be quite rewarding.

These are just some of the fields you could focus on within Trading. Always remember that you are not a quick reseller, you want to be an experienced trader. One issue which I would like to address being a Trader is the price exchange. It is my personal opinion that when you have a seller of an item, and a possible buyer for the item, it is the responsibility of the seller to provide a price. There are a few exceptions to the rule due to the item at hand; however, in general, the seller should always provide a price and then the two parties can discuss and agree on a fair amount.

One last tip to end the trading section...HAGGLE HAGGLE HAGGLE! You never want to haggle down so far or low that you annoy the seller; however, try to fight for a fair price. If you are looking to buy an item, and they said 700,000 NP, try to see if they will do 550,000 NP or 600,000 NP. If they are firm, then you cannot do much, but if they will go that little lower, that means more possible profit for you! The only time you should not haggle is when their price is low enough you are confident in a profit. That is when you can agree and trade.

As I have mentioned above, there are many other ways to maintain and obtain NP, whether it be through the stock market, restocking, games, etc. These are just two ways which I personally feel go along with the pattern of gallery collectors. You need to remember that you are doing all of this hard work to build up your gallery collection, so by investing or trading, you are allowing a steady income, as well as opening yourself up to many more items, which can only help you for your own personal gallery. You may cross paths with a user who is selling an item you need for your gallery, so keep your eyes open!

Update: Since this guide was published and written, there have been two extremely popular ways that many Neopians are making money: KeyQuest & Habitarium. I cannot explain much on KeyQuest as I (personally) am not a player of this game. It basically is a board game and you can receive items which you are then able to sell for NPs. Habitarium involves having your own nest of petpetpets, and having your population grow into a little civilization. As you progress you obtain NPs, and by the time you hit the max level (currently at 50), you are able to obtain 100,000 NP daily!

Mario's Gallery Guide

This article was placed into the Neopian Times Issue #354

This is a gallery guide which I wrote years ago, and was published in The Neopian Times (which is where I got my trophy from). You are easily able to access it by clicking the trophy, but I figured that I should post it here since those who read it say how much it helped them start to collect again. Please do read, let me know what you think, and feel free to neomail me if you have any questions, thank you!

Galleries Galore

Over the years, galleries and collections have been created by members to show off their favorite items to other users. Years ago, this would be allowed in the shops with items worth between 100,000 NP and 250,000 NP; however, that changed eventually, to make it convenient for everyone else! Personally, I think it was a great idea. Anyway, many people question about the collections which are possible, or how to decide what to collect. It may not be an easy decision; however, it is an important one because it can easily take up a lot of time and more importantly, money, because dedicated collection owners spend a lot of money in making an attempt to finish a gallery. Now let's start with the basics... which gallery/collection is right for you?

Before doing anything, make sure you understand that a gallery is a long-term dedication. It is not an idea you would like to do while you are bored or feel like spending money. Many items you will buy for a gallery will not be easy to sell again, so keep that in mind! Secondly, make sure an actual gallery is what you are looking for. Some members prefer to get many avatars, stamps or collectable cards, which can get very expensive very quickly. Once you pass those two questions, it is up to you to decide which type of gallery you would like to have. No one can tell you which gallery is right for you; ONLY YOU can decide that. It is too hard to sit down and go through the different categories, since there are THOUSANDS of items on Neopets. The best way to decide a theme for your gallery would be to think of some of your favorite things, whether it is a color, or a pet, or type of item on Neopets; again, the number is endless. Once you narrow it down, it is important to understand just how many items you will be expected to buy. Search through trades, the shop wizard, and auctions to see if you can find around how many items you will have to buy. This is the hardest process since it is the foundation of your collection.

***REMEMBER*** Be 100% that you have a collection you like before reading on. If you set up your gallery, and a week later you do not like it, you will not be happy.

Once that step is complete, you are ready for set up! Now, you need to consider two things. One is your budget, which is the most important thing. A common misconception is that you need to have millions to have an amazing gallery. This is NOT TRUE! There are many galleries created which are nowhere near completion and their owners have spent millions on them. There are plenty of galleries in Neopia which range in budget and are completed! And believe me, there is nothing better than having the feeling of a completed gallery, simply amazing! Secondly, consider how many items your gallery will be holding. If your theme is Faerie, then you will need a large gallery size and have a lot of time for organization. If you chose a smaller theme, like Hats or Numbers, then it will be easier on you!

It is usually a good idea to buy the cheaper items first to get them out of the way, because you will need the rest of your budget for those expensive items. If you need help finding a good amount of your items, it may be best to again, check the Trading Post, or type in a common name in the Shop Wizard. For example, if your gallery theme is Dr. Sloth, just type the word "sloth" in the search engine, and see what items you get!

*Hint* It may be a good idea to keep a list of the items needed somewhere so you do not have to constantly be searching!

That step will probably be the most tedious step throughout the entire process; however, once you have a good majority of the "cheaper" items, it is then important to slowly, and I stress slowly, start buying the expensive ones. There are a few good ideas to keep in mind when it comes to buying the expensive items. Just like everyone else, I do not like spending a lot of money; however, when it comes to items I need/want, money is going to be needed, so you must buy these items smart. Constantly check the Trading Post and Shop Wizard for the items you need. Sometimes people are desperately selling items cheaper because they need Neopoints, so just make sure to have an eye out for that. Secondly, if you are talking to another user about buying their item, make sure to say it is for your gallery. Most kind users are willing to sell a little cheaper than normal knowing that their item is not just being bought for a profit, but for a collection! (I know I do that!) Besides those two ways, it is also important to be nice to other users, being rude, rough and impatient is no way to buy items which you need.

There is also another problem that you may face, depending upon your theme of the gallery. Neopets has been around for many years, since 1999, and in that time, too many items have been created for everyone's enjoyment, which is amazing and fantastic; however, it is a major problem for certain gallery owners. Some items may have been released years ago and were only available for a short amount of time, so to be able to retrieve these items will be a problem. Sometimes, the items are so rare, that you are unable to find any on the site, not even in another gallery. This may be caused to a small number of individuals owning the item and then either getting frozen or having the evil Pant Devil stealing them away. Regardless of the reason you want to try your best to find those items, so always keep them in the back of your mind! Again, keep checking the Trading Post for the item, which would be your best bet. Sometimes they arise randomly because they were in a user's Safety Deposit Box, so do not forget that!

Once the items are looking nice, and you are organizing them well in the gallery, you may want to then consider having a nice theme-related design for the gallery. Use a paint program you may have on your computer to try and create an enjoyable atmosphere for the users who do come to visit your gallery. No one wants to visit a gallery that looks ugly; they will run away quicker than you can say dung!

And finally... yes and finally, remember your ultimate goal: A Completed Gallery!!! It is important to keep going for the goal, because if you do not have a goal, then you will not work as hard to complete it. Just some advice for those of you who have never had a gallery before: you may want to start out small, so you understand how the process works, unless you are daring then I wish you the best of luck! Feel free to neomail me at _mariokart_ if you have any questions. I will help you in any way I can!

P.S. The Bad News- Yes, there is some bad news. A gallery is rarely ever completed for long, because Neopets does constantly release many items a week, so make sure you are checking for News Updates, and buy any new items which are being released! Although you may want to wait until the price falls a little, but you will still need to buy them regardless! Also, there are some items which Neopets have not released yet, but let's hope that will change soon for those items. All items deserved to be loved!

Dr. Sloth Auctions

Dr. Sloth auctions off Rarity 101 Stamps once a month which began on February 17th, 2011. As stated in the news...

We have some good news and some bad news, everyone! The good news is, we're finally going to be slowly releasing some old r101 stamps back into the economy. The bad news is, our shipment of stamps was lost in transit. Oh, it looks like Dr. Sloth has found an old crate of stamps though! What an odd coincidence. It seems he'll be auctioning a stamp off once a month in order to fund his plans for his 'Grundo Reeducation Center'! Isn't that nice of Sloth to educate Grundos? And here we thought he was entirely evil. Way to go, Dr. Sloth!

Since he has been releasing these stamps into the economy, it would bea good idea to keep track of which stamps are released each month and for how much they are sold for. If you have any questions, please feel free to neomail me, thank you.

The prices that you see below do not 100% represent the stamps true value. These stamps were bought with pure neopoints off of Dr. Sloth. Most of them were later sold for higher amounts.

Stamp Album Sets

Stamp collecting is a strenuous & tedious task; however, if you enjoy collecting, it gives you a wonderful sense of self-accomplishment! The amount of sets which are available to complete in your album is quite large these days. The Neopets Team keeps introducing new sets for us to eventually complete!

Dr. Sloth Stamp Auctions occur once a month. It gives Neopians the opportunity to obtain Rarity 101 stamps which were originally released many years ago. They will cost you quite a bit though. Any stamp being auctioned by Dr. Sloth will be in the news, so keep an eye out!

Navigating the Pages: Each stamp set page will have the complete set of stamps for you to view. Roll your mouse over any of the stamps for the name, rarity and possible price. Prices will mostly be on the more expensive stamps. Each set may have some stamps outlined in grey. That signifies a rare/expensive stamp in that set. Please remember that prices are subject to change and may not be exact.

Purchasing Stamps

There are a variety of collections one could begin on Neopets. Only the most extremely dedicated collectors decide the take on the task of stamps (I will explain why later). Whether you are a beginner and want to start collecting, trying to obtain avatars, or trying to get to the trophy range and are close, the information presented here will be beneficial to you. There are certain tips, tricks, and methods to buying stamps. Many individuals find themselves buying stamps, and in a blink of an eye, they are broke and feel they did not get their NP's worth. This is a big problem and is very unfair to the user; however, he/she decided the method they chose. So...before going any further, take a seat, grab a drink, and relax your tongue of stamp licking for a little and read on into this article!

General Information

If you are an experienced stamp collector with hundreds already in your album, then you can skip this portion, as you should know the information which will be presented here; however, feel free to read!

There is one thing you must know before you begin stamp collecting...you can never obtain your neopoints back (which is why I said earlier that this is for extremely dedicated collectors only). Unlike many other collections (galleries, NeoDeck Cards, etc.) you can obtain items and then sell them back when you wish. When stamps are placed into your album, you cannot remove them. Neopets has also stated many times that this will not be changing and it will forever stay this way. If you are uncomfortable with that option, then stamp collecting is not for you. You want to make sure you are really dedicated and will continue to spend your finances on it. Many individuals have put half of their wealth into stamp collecting and ended up quitting as they got bored of "wasting" their money. In no way is stamp collecting an investment for profitable gain, it is a true collection, one that cannot be tampered with.

Understanding and accepting that information, you must also know that at the current time of writing this article, there are almost 600 different stamps to obtain! That may sound like a lot, but considering stamps were introduced in September 2002, thats around 100 stamps a year released. While obtaining every stamp is near impossible and will cost billions (Yes billions, not millions), do not focus on that as your goal for right now.

My last small point of information is that this type of collection can be quite costly. All stamp collectors have spent a different amount of money based on various factors, but no one with 500+ stamps would say their collection was cheap. As I stated earlier, you must be ready "lose" some of your finances as stamps will take a large chunk out of them.

Stamp Shops

This entire guide is assuming that you are not great at restocking, since many users do have difficulty with such a task. If you are one of the lucky few who restock really well, then of course restock as MUCH as possible in these stamp shops to save yourself money. Below are the different shops and briefly description of the album items which restock there.

Neopian Post Office Stamps

Every stamp (Rarity 99 and under) introduced to Neopia originates from this shop.
Collectable Coins Coins & Scarabs

These items tend to be of lesser value when comparing to Stamps since this shop has a lot less items to keep stocked.
Collectable Sea Shells Sea Shells & Maractite Coins

The cheapest type of album items are here. This shop currently stocks for only two different sets, so those album items which stock here are worth less than the rest.
Toy Shop Charms

These are rarer than stamps due to the volume of toys which stock here. These can be extremely difficult to find and restock.

Comparing the Four Shops (Using a Rarity 98 Album Item)

(Rarest) ~ Toy Shop | Post Office | Coin Shop | Sea Shell Shop ~ (Common)

Hopefully you were able to understand the above information (I tried my best)! It basically compares a rarity 98 item in each of the four shops and rates them from rarest to most common. If you have any questions (or better suggestions of explaining the rarity between the shops), please neomail me.

Stamp History

Stamps have been around since September 2002, with many stamps being introduced at that time. The order in which you see the different sets listed in your album was the order they were released. For example, the first set introduced was Mystery Island, which was then followed by Virtupets & Tyrannia. There were many stamps which were released that first year as prizes (Lenny Conundrum, Mystery Picture, Better Than You, etc.) and have since become extremely rare. These stamps are listed in my historical section of IDC. As the years passed, more sets and stamps were introduced and they became a little more popular. Within the week of November 3rd, 2003, four stamp avatars were released in the news. Once they announced that a complete set would reveal an avatar, it attracted more attention to stamp collecting. Now avatar collectors began to show interest in stamps.

As the years progressed, a few more stamp avatars were released, many more sets introduced and even more stamps created. For quite a few years however, there was some down time in the stamp community. On October 17th, 2006 the Snowy Valley avatar was released for users to obtain. It attracted attention towards stamp collecting once again, but that did not last long. It was then a brutal four years since another stamp avatar would be released. The Battledome set was not one anyone would have expected to be next! Being released on September 16th, 2010, it made a whole new generation of Neopians become stamp crazy! Due to this avatar being released, many unbuyable stamps increased in price in the anticipation of more avatars being released. It also made tons more users interested in stamp collecting. There are more users who collect stamps now than ever before, so it is not something to be taken lightly!

The Beginning

Ready to start stamp collecting?! After all of the scary things mentioned about stamps, if you are still interested in collecting, then good for you! Its truly rewarding in the long run to look back at all the hard work you put into such a tough collection. Anyway, lets not waste anymore time, if you are only starting now, you are about a decade behind some of the other collectors!

The first thing you need to do is find a nice stamp guide (which you are lucky to have one right here) where you can get the names of all the stamps! By just spending a few 100,000 NP, you are able to purchase 100-200 stamps! There are so many cheap stamps out there, some costing even 1 NP! In the beginning, you want to focus on simply obtaining the cheap ones and get them out of the way. It may be time consuming, but its nice to have a good foundation on which to grow. If even a few 100,000 NP is too much, do not worry! Take your time with what you have to work with, but never go broke from buying stamps. That is one of the biggest mistakes made today. Someone will spend all their money adding stamps to their album which only hinders their collection. It is true that it takes money to make money! My general rule is, which can vary, to always keep at least half of what you started with. So if you technically have 1 million to put into your album, only spend 500,000 NP. That leaves you with half to try and make more money for more stamps.

When going through the sets to buy the cheaper stamps, please keep an eye out for new stamps. If a stamp (rarity 89 and under) was just released a few days ago, it will probably be selling for 400,000 NP+ immediately. Unless you do not want to wait, I would suggest to not purchase that stamp until time progresses, more restock and the prices decreases.

Once you have completed buying the cheaper stamps (50,000 NP and under), depending on your finances, it may be a good time to take a break from purchasing stamps, work on increasing your wealth again, and come back in the near future. As I stated before, losing all your finances will only be detrimental to your collection.

Average Stamp Collector

Having all the cheaper stamps already in your album and your finances replenished, it is a good time to come back to purchasing more stamps for your album. There are a couple of directions you can go in regards to which stamps to purchase and I will list them below.

Option #1 (Recommend for Trophy): This is similar to the first portion I explained above, only with more expensive stamps. You would now purchase any stamps that you have not before which are still buyable on the shop wizard. That means that you would end up owning every stamp worth 99,999 NP and under. This method allows you to get more stamps for your money, which is good if your goal is to obtain a stamp collecting trophy.

Option #2 (Recommend for Avatars): Taking this route is extremely risky but could be very rewarding with some luck! As you may realize, once a stamp set becomes linked with an avatar, each individual stamp from that set inflates in price, especially the rarity 99+ ones. It is always ideal to complete a stamp set before an avatar is released as it will be cheaper; however, the risk is no one knows when an avatar will be released or to which set. This option is also more expensive as completing a set is never cheap. There is always at least one, if not 2-3+, stamp(s) which cost millions, so be prepared to spend a fair amount of Neopoints on this method.

Most true stamp collectors take the option #1 route only because that is the best choice to try and obtain the trophy. If you stick with option #2, then you just continue on the path you are on. You simply keep working on completing each set one at a time. Regardless of which method you choose, it will take a while, depending on how much NP you can put towards this portion Take your time here though, as the next portion will only be more difficult. Again, make sure to go at a steady pace, always have finances to make more money with, and once you obtain all the stamps, build you wealth back up.

Unbuyable Stamps I

Once your wealth has increased from what you normally have, you will be ready to continue on your stamp collection. If you normally have around 5,000,000 NP, try to shoot for 7-10 Million as it will only help you here. I separated the unbuyable stamps into two sections since the prices range tremendously. Although you may disagree, I consider any stamp worth 3 Million and under to be "cheap" stamps. Initially I was going to have the price be 1 Million; however, once you get higher on the list, paying 2-3 Million for a stamp is quite cheap. This is where you can actually begin to have fun and you dont feel quite as stressed to just gather the ones you need. Hasting this process will only hurt you in the long run.

Purchasing unbuyable stamps is the more entertaining aspect (in my opinion). You are now able to find sellers, haggle with prices and trade. Adding even one stamp now feels like a big accomplishment! From now on, it is important to remember a few things. Most importantly, never rush into a sale! Unless you know the stamp you want to buy is for a good price, always weigh your options. Check with other sellers around the trading post and chat boards to find for possibly cheaper. (Little Hint: People sometimes will sell cheaper for stamp collectors!). Another aspect to remember is to make use of your resources! Stamps can be lurking around anywhere, so just because you may see one on the Trading Post does not mean thats the only one for sale. Check auctions, create a thread or two on different chats, etc. There are always more out there for you!

Fortunately these stamps will not be difficult to find as their rarity is usually r98 (rarity 98) and under. Just keep searching and you shall seek the stamps you want. You can decide which ones to focus on of course when it comes to buying these stamps. For example, if you want to buy the cheaper unbuyable stamps in Maraqua before an avatar may be released, then go ahead and search! There is no exact order when it gets to this level. The only suggestion I recommend is to certainly purchase all the stamps under 1 Million before you start buying stamps worth 2.5 Million each. There are dozens of stamps worth a few 100,000 NP, so its nice to have those in your album! As stated before, depending on your finances, this may take quite a while - and that is okay! Stamp collecting would not be fun if you obtained them all in a month, or even a year for that matter! Always remember to watch your wealth and replenish & break when needed!

Unbuyable Stamps II

Welcome to the Elite Stamp Collectors Level! Stamp collectors with avatars, a trophy, and multiple sets complete are still at this level. I consider this to be the top of the top in stamp collecting. The stamps which fall under this category are all the stamps which were previously too expensive. At this point, you better have a good amount of wealth to back your collection up. I have to be honest because you will come across very rare stamps that you will want, and some will be great prices that you must buy. The worst feeling is seeing a cheap stamp sold, but you just could not afford to buy it.

Deciding which stamps to purchase is completely up to you! As I stated before, there are two options: You can try for set completion or obtain a trophy! If you decide to go for set completions, then decide where you want to start buying and take your time. If the trophy has been your ultimate goal, then I would stick with the cheaper ones first and work your way up. Regardless of which route you go, the principles are still there (which I will bullet at the end as a reminder). More than ever, it is really important that you always have extra neopoints on the side. From now on, I dont recommend saving tons and then buying a few stamps and continuing the cycle. I simply recommend always keeping a certain amount and then building from there.

For example, if you have 40 Million in the bank, I would allow yourself to ideally spend 20 Million on stamps (if you find for good prices only). The reason it is so important to keep some money in the bank is if you come across an expensive stamp for cheap. There are many times that a 15 Million NP stamp may sell for 6-7 Million, but if you dont have the money, you miss out on a great deal!

Adding stamps daily is no longer going to happen. At this level, stamp collecting almost takes a back seat to your priorities on Neopets. You will always have that reserve to buy stamps and keep an eye out for cheap ones, but dont buy the first one you see. You may add one stamp once a week or once every few weeks, thats normal. As time progresses and your patience improves, your collection will continue to grow and get closer and closer to the High Score Table Trophy!

Remember...

• Never rush into buying stamps.
• Do not purchase new stamps until their prices levels out.
• Always replenish your finances and save money.
• Be polite to stamp sellers.
• Inform sellers that you are a stamp collector.
• Always have extra neopoints in case of a good sale.
• Use the Super Shop Wizard (If you have Premium).
• Patience, Patience, Patience!
• Use this guide to help you through the stamp sets

Rare Stamps: 2
Completion Difficulty (1-5): 2 - Unlike NeoQuest I, this set is possible and fairly easy to complete. The toughest stamp is Terask Stamp, and it should not be too difficult to come across.

Maraquan Blade Specialist Stamp Garin To The Rescue Stamp Caylis Stamp Swordsmaster Talek Stamp The Revenge Stamp
Jacques Stamp Garin Stamp Isca Stamp Captain Scarblade Stamp King Kelpbeard Stamp
Rare Stamps: 2
Completion Difficulty (1-5): 3 - The only reason I rate this 3 instead of 2 is because the entire bottom row can be difficult to obtain. Generally, just Captain Scarblade & King Kelpbeard Stamps are difficult to find. Do not be surprised if the other ones give you a little problem though, but they should be fairly cheap.

Everyone has been seeking this stamp, so finding one to purchase will be difficult and costly even though there is no avatar.

VC: The Dedicated Ones...

Virtual Collectors Guild is a place where users who enjoy collecting can discuss, help & have fun together! We are extremely active & kind towards fellow members as we all enjoy a drama-free environment! The guild board is always having a conversation going; however, being active is not required since we do have a variety of members whom like to be silent. It is completely your choice to chat or not - you will not be removed or penalized for being inactive. We understand that real life is more important and some users just are not chatty - Thats Fine =)

This guild is more than just your average gallery or avatar guild. We encompass a variety of collectors. Most members joined with one area to collect and have since expanded their interests due to the discussions & help provided. It is a great place to begin & help grow any/all of your collections. We have a variety of services, activities & events which keep members wanting more! We even have our own guild trophies for you to collect (you may see the ones I have below). If you are interested in joining, please neomail me for an invitation. We do have some requirements, but they are flexible. We just want to maintain the mature & friendly environment we have within VC.

Some Requirements (Depending on what you collect):
• Account Age: 6 Months+ (Mandatory)
• Avatar Count: 250+
• Stamp Count: 350+
• NeoDeck Count: 275+
• Trophy Count: 35+
• Well Organized Gallery
• Kad Feeding: 100+
• Habitarium: Level 50

You do not need all of these to be eligible to join, these are just the areas looked at for possible members. You may simply be a card collector with 280 cards and you could join! If you collect something not listed above, feel free to still neomail me.

As stated before, we are not your general collectors guild. We have members who collect everything around the site! Here are just some of what our members collect.

• Galleries
• Avatars
• Stamps
• NeoDeck Cards
• Trophies
• Kad Feeding
• Book Reading
• Gourmet Feeding
• Battledome Score/Fights
• Pet Collecting/Customizing
• Item Hoarding
• KeyQuest Tokens
• Habitarium
• Plus MANY More!

Neomail me for an invitation to Join!

_mariokart_ currently has 31 Trophies in his Collection!
