You find yourself lost in a forest. It almost being nightfall you wonder where you'll find shelter. As you search the forest with the sunset's minimal light, you have the feeling you're being followed. A tall, grey, reptilian neopet and his Zomutt emerge from the trees behind you. Ha...are you also looking for somewhere to rest..? he asks in his gruff voice. Follow if you'd like, I know of some caves not too far from here.. He grumbles to himself as he walks off. Curious and tired, you follow.
Now settled by the fire with the neopet in the cavern he found, he asks of your intentions in the forest.
Just passin' through, eh? His voice hints that his mind is preoccupied, he could careless of you. With suspicion, you question him in return.
Grah..I was hoping you wouldn't ask. His snarls and shakes his head. Very well...If you're so nosy..

Lesser Armored Techos (LATs) are a distinct breed of techo, and can only be found in small forest villages. Some less educated neopians may confuse LATs for bori, due to their armored plates and large claws.
LATs differ from Greater Armored Techos in that LATs usually only have armor on their heads, knees, elbows, tail, and tops of the hands and feet. GATs have armor that almost completely cover their pelt.
Nyte shakes his head. My story is quite depressing, guest, my history has stolen the vivid color of my scales....However, if you truly seek to understand me, I will tell it... ~~~
Chapter One: A Legend

|
You'll never find me! It was a bright sunny day, two teen-aged lesser armored techos were playing kacheek-seek in the woodlands surrounding their clan's village. One had bright-blue scales, the other, bright-red. Blue began counting One..two..three... while red snooped around the bushes for a hiding spot. Blue finished counting, saw red's tail hanging out of a tree, and pounced. Haha silly Seis! You left your tail where I could see it!
Aww man! I almost fooled you Zou.. Seis cuffed his friend over the head, then began excitedly, C'mon, enough of these silly games! Let's go on an adventure! Zou tilted his head to one side. What..kind of adventure...?asked Zou in a faltering voice.
|
Seis replied eagerly,I hear theres monsters living deep in the forest! Monsters with five eyes and gigantaNORMUS claws! He demonstrated by waving his hands in Zou's face. And, they say he's big and bad enough to eat the entire village in one gulp! Seis playfully nipped at Zou's ears. What d'ya say? Wanna go find it?..
I-I dunno Sei.........uh..besides! Its only a legend...Zou looked away.
Dude seriously? Don't be a scardey-aisha! Seis jumped down from the tree. Well, I'm going to find it with or without your-- OKAY Interrupted Zou, joining Seis on the forest floor. I'll go with you...but...lets find some sticks in case it attacks us..
Seis grinned.
~
Gosh it'll be getting dark soon--can we go back home now Sei? The pair had been exploring the forest for hours, the sun had begun to set.
Just a little more! I bet that monster is hiding from us! What a baby--OUCH! Seis had tripped over a rather large stone. After regaining his composure, his eye caught something in the darkness. Look Zou! A cave! I bet thats where he's hiding! Seis scampered to the cavern's opening, his friend not far behind.
As they ventured into the cave's depths, Seis cooed Here beast-ie beast-ie..here beast-ie..
but stopped when he saw a glowing red object mere meters away. Cool! Just like our clan's necklaces!Seis said, holding up his. Y-yeah...cool.. replied a timid Zou. Lets go see what it is! Yelled Seis. Not waiting to see if his friend followed, Seis dashed toward the light.
Woah...
Hey...*pant*...wait...for me..*pant* would..ya...*pant*...woah.. Zou had caught up, and gawked with Seis at the grand glowing mirror in the center of the path.
...Seis drew his stick, then began to prod at the mirror. Har har..back you beast!Har har--oops! Seis's stick had created a crack in the mirror.
Zou began to scold his friend. Aww look what you did! Whoever this mirror belongs to..well..they're gonna get you in trouble--YAH! The mirror began to shake violently, a ray of bright red light shot out of the crack, the two techos were thrown against the cave wall, and blacked out.
Chapter Two: Disaster
Man...what...was that......... Seis awoke with a minor concussion, then he let out a weak laugh. Heh......wait till the clan hears about..this....right..?....Zou?.. Seis called for his friend, but as his vision returned he noticed a significant change in his surroundings. Where the mirror was standing previously, the ground was covered in shattered glass, a few smaller remains of which were lodged in Seis's fur. Where Zou was previously, nothing---a glint of shine---Zou's necklace? Pfft....probably ran home tail between his legs like a baby lupe..Seis stumbled to his feet with a groan, clutching his missing friend's possession, and trudged towards the cave's exit.
Once outside, Seis tried to take a breathe of fresh night air, but instead received two lung-fulls of smoke. *cough* A fire..?..*cough*...From where...? Now fully alert, Seis hasted his way towards to village, periodically screaming his friend's name. As he neared the the clan's settlement blinding, choking smoke challenged his senses. The roar of the fire was in his ears, the screams of his clan mates stabbing his soul.
Fire towered over the huts, smoke blocked out the stars above, however, the most horrifying factor was the immense demon in the center of the village. It's shadow-black bulk was huge, its head clearing the tree tops, its claws easily Seis's size--if not larger. Its facial features defined its demeanor. Three horns protruded from the monster's skull, two straight horns on the right side of its head, a single think ram horn on its left. Its four ears were curled back, to prevent the smoke from entering its inner ears--and its eyes! The demon had five of them--all blood red--with the most obvious being the orb-like eye that dominated its face, its pupil could only be defined as a never-ending swirl.

Seis found out quickly that staring into this eye for too long dulled his senses, he adverted his gaze, stopping himself from falling into the beast's trance. Where is everybody? Why aren't the warriors fighting that thing? He dodged the collapsing huts, working his way to the warriors' shacks.
Destroyed.
As if mocking Seis, the demon reared back its head and roared triumphantly.
Someone has to stop it! Shuffling through the ruins, Seis found help. A formidable sword had been spared. Unsheathing it quickly, then judging its decor and weight, he figured that it belonged to one of the more experienced warriors.Funny.. Seis thought, It feels so natural in my hands. Gripping the sword, he turned his head towards the demon. It seemed quite preoccupied destroying the other side of the settlement. Seis snarled, he had to think of a way to stop it, now. He hopped to the nearest tree, then to the next, inching his way closer and closer to the abomination. He guessed that the swirled eye was important to the demon's power, judging by the hypnotic power it seemed to have. Hop hop hop..just a few more leaps would bring him to the back of the beast's head.
Seis summoned courage and strength from every scale covering his body, every cell that was inside him. He began to coo loudly at the demon. Here beast-ie beast-ie!
The monster swung its massive head to his calls, hissing. Seis dropped down to his haunches--the pressure of this nearly cracking the branch that held him--and lunged at the swirling eye. He stabbed the eye--the creature immediately burst Seis's eardrums with its piercing screams of agony--He pushed the sword in with all his might, remembering his still missing friend, his destroyed home--the demon thrashed its head--Seis felt his life being drained--thrust the blade as hard as he could-----
It was gone.
Seis was covered ears to tail tip in blood, both his and the demon's. He fell to his knees, breathing heavily, wincing of the pain of his wounds. Where....did...it...go....? Seis dragged himself to his feet, a painful action indeed. Looking at the village he saw that it was still on fire, looking up a drop of rain hit his eye. The village fire was soon put out by torrential rains and Seis's scales were soon clean again. He searched wearily for any sign of survivors, instinctively plodding on through the ashes and puddles to his family's hut.
Just another pile of ashes...
Seis collapsed from exhaustion, the rain mixing in with his tears.
Chapter Three: Nyte
Seis awoke from a much needed sleep and looked about the destroyed village. The tremendous rains from the night before now reduced to a light drizzle. Poking his way into the shacks' remains, Seis found not a hair nor scale of his clanmates. All he had left of them was his and Zou's necklaces, and the sword he found last night. A growl escaped his stomach. Crestfallen, the lesser armored techo forced himself to the forest, in search of something to quell his hunger.
Rummaging through the bushes, picking a berry here and there, Seis found little nourishment. Flinching at his injuries he wondered if any of the plants in the forest could do anything to aid in his recovery.
High up in a tree, masked my the plethora of leaves and branches, a large dragon sat and watched the young techo. It inferred by his defacement that he had something to do with the fire it saw last night. The dragon followed Seis, curious of what he would do next.
Urrrgh... Seis continued his trek through the forest, something inside him told him not to go back to the village, though he couldn't quite put a claw it....
After hours of n-blocked- limping, he abruptly stopped for rest. The dragon in the trees sniffed the afternoon air, a cold wind was coming. No weather for one so weak.. thought the dragon. Perhaps..
Rustle rustle..
Wha-aaah? Seis staggered to his feet, his hand instantly on the hilt of his sword.
Rustle rustle..
A deep-red dragon with a patch over its left eye emerged from the brush, Seis drew his blade.Young warrior, it called. Are you not tired? Your wounds tell me that you need rest and recovery. A bitter gale comes tonight. You'd be wise to consider my invitation...
Young warrior? Seis held his sword steady. Why should I trust you?..
Young warrior I understand your hesitance. I was once like you. This said, I will not beg of you to join me. However I will advise you to find sufficient shelter soon. Mother nature waits for no creature. The dragon opened his wings and flew to a nearby tree.
Seis considered his options. He could chance a night with the dragon, it seemed kind-hearted enough. His injuries reminded him that he was in no condition to spend tonight searching for shelter in cold weather. Dragon, It turned its head to Seis. I accept your hospitality..
A warm fire crackled in the center of the dragon's den. It had made a home of a cave in the mountain's side, high enough that one had to have wings to reach it, lest they climb its hazardous rocks. The dragon watched Seis settle down near the cavern's opening. Young warrior, forgive my intruding but I am curious, how did you come to bear those wounds?
...Too personal a question from a stranger... Seis looked up to the night sky, the stars twinkling at him. Especially since you haven't given me anything to call you by besides 'dragon'.... Seis shifted so that he could see the dragon two meters away from him. And what exactly did you mean when you said you were once like me?..
The dragon chuckled a sort of deep laugh. Young warrior you do have a point..They call me Xian. Long story short I to was a warrior for my clan, but was banished from my species. However I now make quite a joyous living in these forests. I see that you are alone, you carry a blade, thus you are a warrior. You are scarred from a battle you could not win? I too... The dragon removed his eye patch, revealing his missing eye and pink scars. Now, young warrior..might I inquire as to your name..?
Seis looked back to the sky, ignoring Xian's question for a moment. He contemplated his life now, everything had spiraled out of control so quickly. Gripping the clan gems he discerned the stars, So many.. he thought. It suddenly came to him. The clan was gone. His friends, his family, was gone. Everything and anything he had ever come to recognize...Gone. His back to the dragon, Xian could not see Seis's distorted grimace, he could not hear his voiceless keen. A long silence. With much difficulty, Seis regained composure. That demon...will pay for what he did... Eyes full of rage and determination he turned to the dragon...
My name is Nyte.
I had felt so different when I took on my current name than when I took that last adventure with Zou. When I was fighting the monster I felt it drain at my energy, but in the sunlight of the next day I saw that it had drained me of more; my formerly bright-red scales were now grey, as you see me now. Nyte gestures to his pelt.
That night I told Xian how I had come to my weakened state, how that monster ruined my life...and how I felt that the demon was still out there somewhere. After I was done Xian said he'd teach me how to fight like a real warrior so that next time I came face-to-face with it, I could defeat it once and for all. He snarls, you twitch back in surprise, then he remembers your company, and regains a more approachable composure.
Xian's training was pretty intense...He really knows his combative arts. He also tried to teach me some elemental magic but..ah...I couldn't do it.He shrugs his muscular shoulders. After about eleven years of training I left the security of life with Xian. I felt that I was strong enough to go out on my own to track and slay the monster. Xian didn't bother asking me if he could come along, he knew that this was something I needed to do by myself. Nyte's eyes shine with resolve. Now, I travel from village to village, town to town, following the rumors of a five eyed shadow demon. I collect provisions and rest momentarily at these settlements, I must be ready to fight when the time comes... Nyte rests his back on the cave wall, his eyes focused on something faraway. He seems to forget your existence, grumbling under his breath for a while before tending to the fire he built.

Khain
I met this young techo on my journey. I was passing through his village and stopped to rest and restore my provisions. Him being a warrior-to-be, he recognized my sword as my being a warrior as well. Long story short, he convinced me to stay a while n' teach him some of my techniques. It was a nice change of pace..Once I slay that demon I plan to at least visit him again.
|
Xian
He took me in just because..And raised me in the way of the warrior. He doesn't let his past control him, once I defeat that demon, I won't either..Anyway..I am forever in his debt. |

Mutt
I found this little zomutt while traveling through the Haunted Woods. Basically, the sound of her yelps intrigued me, so I drew my blade to see what horror was being inflicted upon the poor creature. Turns out, this puppy was only caught in some spiked brambles. I cut her free, wondering where her parents and sibling were. I waited around a bit, to see if they'd show up, all the while she just sat there, looking at me with those eyes. I finally decided that no one was coming, so I left her. But..she followed me. I tried to get her to stay, but that was no use. So I let her come with me..I suppose I could use the company..
She seems to be okay with me calling her Mutt so I'll just stick with that...

Nyte hands you a beat up, leather-bound book. You look up at him, the question what is this? practically written on your face.

I'm keeping a journal, recording my experiences as I travel Neopia in search of the demon. Nyte explains as you flip through the book, noticing some blank pages. I've visited only some, once the monster is no more, I shall complete my journal.
Entry #1: Shenkuu
~--~
Xian suggested that I start my journey here, and I can see why. Today, the head medic of this land in the mountains, taught me the basics of medicine, and about all sorts of herbs and their powers. A useful assent, I hope I can remember it all. Tomorrow, the weaponry expert is going to evaluate my skills in battle, perhaps he will also teach me some Shenkuunian techniques?
|
 |
Entry #2: Altador
~--~
I seemed to have arrived at an important time; neopians from all over the world are here, competing with each other in a sporting event, Yooyuball, was it? Today I visited the Hall of Heroes, a truly inspiring place. I learned of the trials a true hero must face for the good of others. I'm sure that eradicating my enemy will rid Neopia of one less horror, and cause rejoice among its victims? Another thing, these Altadorians say that the stars of the night sky can be used for navigation. I plan to find the head star mapper tomorrow, as to acquire this skill quickly and correctly.
|
 |
Entry #3: Moltara
~--~
I write this entry by the glow of my worm-filled lantern. What a weird place, I never imagined of adventure in the center of the planet. There is much to be learned during my stay here, they make weapons and other accessories from the cave walls themselves it seems! This art of metal working, perhaps I can convince Cog of teaching it to me..
|
 |
Entry #4: Tyrannia
~--~
I can't understand any of the natives. I can't take much more of their Uggh-Ugga-Ugh language. Luckily I was able to find a translator, and nourishment to re-supply my provisions. The translator told me that these people fight with fire in their times of need, and even arranged me a few sparring lessons with Grarrg, the
Tyrannian Battle Master.
|
 |
Entry #5: Terror Mountain
~--~
I was not prepared in the least for this sudden change in climate. Oh how I miss the warm Tyrannian plains right now. But I must stay focused with the task at hand. I saw this horrible worm of ice in the caves today, I tired to slay it, to save the inhabitants from it, but they stopped me. Apparently the Snowager as they call it, is part of some game? While it sleeps, they try to sneak up and steal some of its mound of treasure. I hardly see the point in this activity. These people also battle very strangely, throwing balls of snow at each other. The snow doesn't seem to do much harm. I see no reason why I should stay here much longer. After a night's rest I'm going to leave this frozen place. I can't stand it.
|
 |
Entry #6: Meridell
~--~
Another land of warriors! It is written in this land's history, that a great war occurred, between them and the evil, floating Darigan Citadel. I wonder if that is where my demon foe originated from, I wouldn't doubt it. By now, peace has been restored to these fields, and many more games are played here. Some are entirely ridiculous, rolling cheese down a hill? That might even be more useless than the activities enjoyed at Terror Mountain..
|
 |
Entry #7: Haunted Woods
~--~
I correct myself, THIS is where my enemy came from, why, monsters all jsut everywhere. Like this blue..blob..ish one..it doesn't seem too harmful..all it does is command others to bring it food...but you can never be to sure. Theres also the Brain Tree, a living tree with knowledge of ever neopian's death. Strange. Just..strange. I must get out of here soon, before its too late.
|
 |
Entry #8: Lost Desert
~--~
I am lost indeed, those carnies in Haunted Woods must have given me wrong directions. However the people here are kind and will help me find my way back. I noticed a shrine they seem to worship, saying that the ghost of their ex-King Coltzan possesses the shine, and blesses neopets in need that come to him. I visited the rocky spire, said a few prayers, and later noticed that I was somewhat stronger...perhaps the king has been watching me during my travels...and he wishes to help me complete my goal...

Some trinkets I have gathered on my journey. However, the only trophy I seek is the demon's lifeless pelt.
Dawn breaks as Nyte walks to the cave's entrance, you follow.
Well guest, it seems that our time to part has arrived.. Nyte stands and stretches, flexing his claws and muscles, Mutt bouncing around his feet. If you trek a good..three to four miles in that direction- He points northwestward -You'll find a settlement that can help you get back home.
With a final nod the Lesser Armored Techo grabs his Zomutt, and climbs into the nearest tree, quickly hidden by its foliage. You can hear the leaves rustling as he runs through the branches. Soon, you cannot hear him anymore. As you turn to the direction he suggested, something on the ground catches your eye...
...its a small picture of Nyte. You pick it up and turn it over-he had written a note on the back.
A little something to remember me by.
