My zafara has a random guide still in progress, and my ixi will soon be working on a guide that covers a lot about neopets. Please visit this page again for updates!!!

Introduction to HTML

Tags

Review:
By now, you should know that HTML stands for Hyper Text Mark-up Language, and where to edit it.

Another way to let coding appear on a page is to use 'xmp'. If you type the letters xmp in tags, then whatever codes you type after will appear, and not the result. Be sure to end this tag!

This is where I used the xmp code. Notice how this text doesn't show in italics because I preceded this line with the xmp code.

Beginner Codes

This code bolds text. TEXT GOES HERE

This code underlines text. TEXT GOES HERE

This code makes a new paragraph.

This code makes a line break. *Like pressing enter on a keyboard.*

This code makes text superscript. TEXT GOES HERE

This code makes text subscript. TEXT GOES HERE

This code makes text scroll across the screen like this, and is called a marquee. TEXT GOES HERE

This code changes a font's color. TEXT GOES HERE

This code changes a font's size. Sizes go from 1-7. TEXT GOES HERE

For more specific colors, go to i-petz.com, then click on goodies room, then color chart. You can use these hexadecimal codes instead of a color name. Make sure to put a pound symbol ( # ) before the 6-digit number code.

This text is red and is size 3.

The above code would look like this:

This text is red and is size 3.

Intermediate HTML

Look below to learn how to make more advanced marquees just like this!

Look below to learn how to make more advanced marquees just like this! The above code is exactly what I typed to create the marquee above. Look below for more information.

bgcolor ~ This stands for background color; you can change the color to whatever you want.
width ~ The width can be expressed in pixels or %
height ~ The height can be expressed in pixels or %
behavior ~ This can be either alternate (back & forth) or slide (from one side, disappears, then reappears at the start.)
direction ~ This can be either up, down, left, or right, and is the direction the marquee moves.
scrollamount ~ This is basically how fast the text scrolls. The higher the number, the faster its speed.

Try experimenting with the above values to make your own advanced marquee!

In this next section I'll deal with tables.

You can change height and width to whatever percentage or pixel number you want... The background color (bgcolor) can be either a color or hexadecimal code.
You can choose the border also. (No border=0, small border=1, large border=2) You can do almost anything inside of an individual cell. This includes adding pics, links, changing the font color, adding italics as well as other things. Try to experiment!

The code below is the exact code I used to create this table. Try to understand how everyhting fits together.

The main thing you should know is the text below:

Text Here

Let's say you wanted to link to the Neopets homepage. You would use the code below: TEXT HERE

You would change TEXT HERE to whatever words you want the link to appear on. Remember to add before the link and be sure to put parentheses around the URL! Make sure to end the tag.

In Internet Explorer, I know you can right click on a pic and go to properties. From here, you should see the address or URL- just copy and paste it. An example is below.

(The above code would show you a pic of a tonu at a computer.) The code for this is img src=, and the address is also in parantheses. Also note that an image search does not need an ending tag.

I am now going to explain unordered lists and ordered lists. For unordered lists put ul in tags, and for ordered lists put ol in tags. Ul will create bullets while ol will produce numbers. Make sure to put li in tags to create a new line. Also remember to end all these tags! Look below for examples:

  • bullet one
  • bullet two
  • bullet one
  • bullet two
  1. point one
  2. point two
  1. point one
  2. point two

If my site has any errors, mistakes, or if you need help or want to give me any feedback, please feel free to neomail me. :)

page last updated: December 5, 2010(finally!)
I added new 'tabs', or links to my other petpages at the top. I hope this helps with navigation between my pages! Also, I'm not sure if I'll keep this page as it is, change it to a new topic, or postpone doing any petpage updates because I am very busy with college. I'll try to come up with a decision soon... Sorry for going so long without any updates!

Soon to come:
More advanced HTML
More in-depth explanations.
Adding pictures, and making my page look better.
Plus more!

Eventually, I want to cover HTML, CSS, font coding to use on the Neoboards, and screenies on this page. Please neomail me if you have any suggestions about how I should present information on this page, or if there is anything else coding related you would like to see on here. ^_^ Please, all opinions matter!
