Welcome to my guide guest! This guide is a simple introduction to the battledome and how to make the most of your pets in order to unlock the warrior within!

I designed this guide for my guild, the Order of the Knights of Meridell, in preparation of our war against Darigan Headquarters in February, 2009. I am proud to report our guild was victorious.

To begin, we are going to take a look at your pets stats.

A pet has 5 different stats. They are Level, Endurance, Strength, Defense, and Movement.
  • Level determines the cost of training at a school for your pet. Also, your pet can unlock different abilities by reaching higher levels.
  • Strength determines the amount of damage your pet does, while Defense determines how much damage your pet can defend against. However, your pet will not do more damage or defend more for each point it gains, but only at certain levels, known as boosts. For more information about Strength and Defense Boosts, check the Boosts section below.
  • Endurance is the total health points your pet has. This is one of the most important stats, as the more health your pet has the longer your pet can survive in a battle.
  • Movement (a.k.a. Agility) plays virtually no role in the Battledome, aside from allowing the use of several random Battledome items, most of which aren't worthwhile. It is usually recommended that one doesn't train Agility.
There are several ways to increase your pets stats. The best way to increase a pets stats is using the training schools. There are three schools, one located on Krawk Island, the other two on Mystery Island.

Cap'n Threelegs' Swashbuckling Academy
Courses are paid for in dubloons, with the number of dubloons owed based upon your pets level. This is the cheapest place to train your pet, however it does take the longest. Unlike the Mystery Island Training School, you can cancel a course here if you so choose. You can train your pets Strength, Defense, Endurance, and Movement up to twice of your pets level. There is also a chance of a Super Bonus occuring upon completion of a course, increasing whatever stat your pet was training by 2-4 instead of just 1. Your pet can train here until level 40 and it is recommended that you do so. Training will be cheaper in comparison to the Mystery Island School, however at the cost of each course taking much longer. Below is a table of the costs for a course depending on your pets level.

Course Type Neopet Level Cost Length
Sea Urchin 10 and under
1 Dubloon
4 hours
Deckhand 11-20
2 Dubloons
6 hours
Pirate 21-30
5 Dubloons
8 hours
Cap'n 31-40
5 Dubloons
10 hours

Mystery Island Training School
Courses are paid for in codestones. Your pets level is used to determine the number of codestones owed for the course. The required codestones are then randomly generated from the 10 different codestone types. Courses here don't take as long as at the Academy, but are often more expensive. The codestones the course requires could be either the two cheapest or the two most expensive ones, so it could be quite costly to train here. Your pet can train here until level 250. This is where your pet will do the majority of it's training. You can train your pets Strength, Defense, Movement up to twice of your pets level and Endurance up to three times your pets level. There is also a chance of a Super Bonus occuring upon completion of a course, increasing whatever stat your pet was training by 2-4 instead of just 1. Below is a table of the costs for a course depending on your pets level.

Course Type Neopet Level Cost Length
Grasshopper 20 and Under 1 codestone 2 hours
Basic 21-40 2 codestones 3 hours
Intermediate 41-80 3 codestones 4 hours
Adept 81-100 4 codestones 6 hours
Advanced 101-120 5 codestones 8 hours
Expert 121-150 6 codestones 12 hours
Master 151-200 7 codestones 18 hours
Grand Master 201-250 8 codestones 24 hours

Secret Ninja Training School
While this guide is simply a beginner's introduction to the Battledome, it is important to mention the third training school, also located on Mystery Island. Only those with a pet whose level is 250 or higher may enter the school. Very few Neopians ever see the inside of this school as a result. Courses are paid for in red codestones. Your pets level is used to determine the number of codestones owed for the course. The required red codestones are then randomly generated from the 6 different codestone types. Like the Academy on Krawk Island, one can cancel courses here if they so choose. Courses here are relatively short in length. Your pet can train here indefinitely. You can train your pets Strength, Defense, Movement up to twice of your pets level and Endurance up to three times your pets level. There is also a chance of a Super Bonus occuring upon completion of a course, increasing whatever stat your pet was training by 2 points instead of just 1. Below is a table of the costs for a course depending on your pets level.

Course Type Neopet Level Cost Length
Intermediate 250 1 codestones 4 hours
Adept 300 2 codestones 6 hours
Advanced 400 3 codestones 8 hours
Expert 500 4 codestones 10 hours
Master 600 5 codestones 12 hours
Grand Master 750 and above 6 codestones 12 hours

Faerie Quests
As a random event, the various faeries will appear and require an item in exchange for increasing a random pets stat. You cannot use the Shop Wizard while on a Faerie Quest. You can turn in a quest on the Pet Central page near the bottom right corner.

Earth Faerie
Requires a magical item.Feeds one of your pets

Light Faerie
Requires a collectable card.+1 Level

Darkness Faerie
Requires a toy.+2 HP

Fire Faerie
Requires a clothing item.+2 Strength

Water Faerie
Requires a book.+2 Defense

Air Faerie
Requires a grooming item.+2 Movement

Faerie Queen
Can ask for anything. +1 Level, +2-3 HP,
+2-3 Strength

Space Faerie
Can ask for anything.+4 Levels

Fountain Faerie
Grants you access to the Rainbow Fountain, allowing you to change one of your pets colors to any other one permenantly

Earth faerie quests are the only one that isn't worth it, as the item she requests can be quite expensive and the reward isn't worthwhile. While rare, the Space Faerie and Faerie Queen quests can be quite expensive, but they are well worth it.

Kitchen Quests
The kitchen quests found on Mystery Island will require you to track down either 3 or 4 random food items for the chef to prepare a meal with. As a reward, he'll do one of several things:
  • Award you some neopoints
  • Award you some neopoints and a random item
  • Will increase a random stat of a random pet
An important thing to watch out for is you shouldn't always do the Kitchen Quests, occasionally the chef will ask for an item costing up to 10,000 nps. My limit is 2,500 nps, which I suggest you use as your limit as well. Shop Wizard all items prior to buying them to make sure one doesn't make you exceed your limit.

The Lab Ray
Assembling all 9 of the Secret Lab Map Pieces grants you the ability to use the Lab Ray once a day. When fired at your pet, it will do one of the following things:
  • Raise your pets Strength/Defense/Movement/Health
  • Lower your pets Strength/Defense/Movement. Note that health cannot be lowered by the Lab Ray.
  • Change your pets color/species/gender
  • Do nothing
Now there are a great deal of advantages to zapping your pet, unfortunately there's a great deal of disadvantages as well.

Advantages:
  • Health will rise considerably
  • Your pet could change into a limited edition species or could become an expensive color.
  • One time price to gain access to the lab ray forever
Disadvantages:
  • Your pet will fail to develop Defense and Level. "Lab Rat" pets are identified by their unusually low Level and Defense, with uncharacteristically high Health, and average Strength and Agility.
  • Your pet could change into a species or color you may not like, it will cost a significant amount to return them to their original color/species once you decide to stop labbing your pet.
  • Unpredictable
Conclusion about the Lab Ray: The Lab Ray alone is not a good way to raise your pet, but some people do it. If you don't care about your pets species, gender, or color I recommend getting the Lab Ray. Combining it with training at the schools is one of the cheaper ways to raise your pets stats.

If you still have questions, I highly recommend checking this petpage for more about the Lab Ray.

Coltzan's Shrine
Finally, beginning pets can visit Coltzan's Shrine every 12 hours for a random chance of increasing a pets stats. For some reason, the older and stronger your pet is the chances of getting a stat increase drop. You also cannot win any items if your pet is over level 21.

For more information about Coltzan's Shrine, I highly recommend visiting the following petpage.

Neggs and Potions
While this is simply a beginner's guide to the Battledome, any beginner should know about Neggs. Neggs are one use food items, some of which can give your pet a stat boost. However, Neggs are quite expensive, but the advantage to using them is the only time limitation is how much your pet can eat. Typically, those who find Neggs to be of use are incredibly strong players, who find it easier to pay the extra NP rather than train at a training school. I have never used Neggs, so my knowledge on which one's to use is rather limited.

For more information about Neggs, check LeQuig's guide.

Other
There are several other ways a pets stats can be increased.
  • A random event can grant your pet a random increase in a stat. These are incredibly rare however.
  • The Fruit Machine can occasionally give free stat points when you win. This is very rare however.
  • Tombola and the Deserted Tomb can award codestones, which is like receiving a complimentary class.
  • You can find codestones through random events while exploring the site.
  • KeyQuest also gives codestones to those who redeem Silver and Gold keys.

There are several different pet stat builds you will encounter. Different builds are a means of gaining a statistical advantage, as each build has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Balanced Pets
These are the most commonly seen pet build. This build entails having balanced Strength, Defense, and Health. However, because the pet is balanced, they can easily be beaten by non-balanced pets in battles.

Tanks
These pets have exceptionally high Defense and/or HP and are best suited for battles against other pets. Their exceptional Defense and/or HP allows them to gain a significant advantage over balanced pets in 2P challenges.

Noobinators
One rarely finds Noobinators, but they are out there and they are despised by most battlers. They use a strategy that involves a weak pet wielding expensive battledome equipment. The better, more expensive equipment allows them to easily overcome weaker pets who typically have cheap battledome weapons. Statistically, these pets have had very little training so as to still be allowed to fight weaker pets in the battledome. Alternatively, they may have one stat that is disproportionate to the others, such as incredibly high Strength while maintaining a low level. They overcome stronger pets due to their superior strategy and equipment.

Lab Rats
An unintentional build, Lab Rats are the result of training your pet solely on the Lab Ray. They have incredibly high HP, with moderate Strength and Agility, and have a very low Level and Defense. The pet may also be a strange, unpopular species or color as a result of labbing (Like an Orange Ogrin). Most Lab Rats don't have a good battledome set, as they don't have the NP to actually train their pet, let alone purchase an expensive battledome set.

Understanding Strength and Defense boosts is one of the most important things a beginner needs to know, as it directly affects the training of your pet.

Your pets strength boost determines how much damage your pet does per icon. So say you're using a Scarab Ring, which does 6 icons, and your pet's strength is 55-84, your pet will do 2 damage per icon, 12 damage total.

The table below is a list of all the boosts and how much damage per icon they do:

Strength/DefenseDamage per icon
1-7.5
8-12.75
13-191.0
20-341.25
35-541.5
55-842.0
85-1242.5
125-1993.0
200-2494.5
250-2995.5
300-3496.5
350-3997.5
400-4498.5
450-4999.75
500-54911.0
550-59912.0
600-64913.0
650-69914.0
700+15.0

But how does this affect the way you train your pet? Well, if your pets strength is 40 it will do 1.5 damage per icon. If you raise said pets strength to 50, it will still do 1.5 damage per icon. So the importance of boosts is it tells you how long to train your pet in order to see an increase in damage dealt. Going back to your pet with 50 strength, if you increase its strength to 55 it will do 2 damage per icon instead of 1.5, which may not sound like a lot, but it proves to make a difference.

Boosts also apply to defense, so when training defense you'll want to make sure your pet reaches the next boost before training the next stat.

A typical set contains the following:
  • Constants (x2) - Weapons that you can use as a constant way of doing damage
  • Healer - An item that heals lost HP
  • Stealer - Steals one item belonging to the opponent for the duration of the battle
  • Freezer - Freezes the opponent, causing them to lose a turn
  • Defense (x2) - Blocks damage done to your pet
  • Bomb - Some players use bombs, which are items that can only be used once or once per battle to do a great deal of damage, however they can only be used once which is their main drawback

The following are some beginner's weapons I recommend familiarizing yourself with:

Constants
Scarab RingThe staple of every beginner battledomer. Every pet should use 2 of these until they're ready to invest nps into serious weapons. Does 6 icons, 2 water, 2 dark, 2 physical, and defends 3 fire and 3 physical icons.
Obsidian DaggerAn incredibly cheap weapon that does 6-8 icons, 3 earth, 2 fire, and up to 3 physical. Imagine the scarab ring without defense and a couple extra icons.
Unstable SlimeAnother incredibly cheap weapon. Does 7 icons, 3 air, 2 water, and 2 dark.
Ice ClubOne of the cheapest 9 icon weapons, usually a little under 100,000 NPS. Does 3 air, 3 water, and 3 physical icons.
Stone ClubVery similar to the Ice Club, only difference is instead of 3 water it does 3 earth icons.
Essence of EsophagorOne of the better 9 icon weapons, does approximately 4.5 water and 4.5 earth icons. However, it's slightly more expensive than the other 9 icon weapons.
Pike PikeThis weapon is similar to the Essence of Esophagor, only the icon types are light and water, slightly better depending on your opponents shields.
Golden CompassOne of the best 9 icon weapons for around 100,000 NPs. Does 3 fire icons, 3 air, and 3 light, as well as defending against 3 dark icons.
Scuzzys CombOne of the prizes from Neoquest II, this weapon deals 5 light and 5 physical icons, and is a great step up into the 10 icon range for around 200,000 NPs.
Ramtors SpellbookIs only slightly better than Scuzzys Comb, as it does 5 light icons and 5 dark icons, which is slightly harder to block. Costs more though.
Steaming Skeem PotionA bit of an oddball, but useful nevertheless, this weapon does 8 icons when used on an opponent with less than 19 INT, 11 icons when used on an opponent with more than 19 INT. Cheap and very useful in 2P.

Healers
Lesser Healing ScrollHeals 25 HP, one use per battle. Heals BEFORE damage is dealt. Costs a little less than 5,000 NP.
Blue ScorchstoneHeals 30 HP, one use per battle. However it's very expensive, around 50,000 NP, but it can overheal you, giving you a slight advantage.
Greater Healing ScrollHeals 50 HP, one use per battle. Heals BEFORE damage, however, costs around 50,000 NP.
Jade ElixirFully heals your pet, however it is a one use only item. There are several healing items such as this, however most are species specific healers. Costs around 10,000 NP.

Stealers
Purple Sticky HandSteals the first item held by an opponent. Purple Sticky Hand has around a 55% chance of stealing, best value for your money. Costs around 10,000 NP.
Heavy Robe of ThieveryDefends 2 light icons. Then, if your pet has 201 agility and 68 int it has a 100% steal rate. Disappears after stealing.

Freezers
Green Frost Cannon11% Freeze Rate. However, it breaks after it successfully freezes your opponent. It is relatively cheap, only 4,000 NP per cannon. Most beginners use this weapon as their freezer. The strategy behind using it is to enter a 1P battle and use the freezer on the first turn, then withdraw if unsuccessful. Reenter the fight and keep trying until successful, then finish the battle.
Snowglobe Staff20% of the time it will Freeze your opponent, 20% of the time it will defend your pet, 20% of the time it will give your pet a random snowball to use, 20% of the time it will attack, or 20% of the time it will break.
Scroll of Freezing100% Freeze Rate. However, has a 1 in 5 chance of breaking. And at 100,000 NPs, it isn't easy to replace. I recommend buying this and using it in case of emergencies or incredibly sparingly.
Terror StoneSame as Scroll of Freezing, only costs 50,000 more NP and is harder to come by.

Defense
Leaf ShieldDefends 5 earth, 5 water, 3 physical icons. Costs around 10,000 NP, very respectable defender at a very cheap price. I recommend getting one, at least as a back up.
Downsize!Excellent item that is only useable once per battle, and halves all icons done to your pet. Cheap, reliable, a must have for every battledomer.
Patched Magic HatFor about twice as many NPs as the leaf shield, you can block 5 earth icons, 3 light, and 3-6 physical icons. The light and physical defense makes this shield more sought after than the leaf shield.
Helm of DarknessThis defensive item has a slightly more tactical side to its use. The Helm of Darkness blocks 3 dark icons and 3 light icons, and costs a meager 500 NP. If you use Burrow, all icons are blocked except for light and dark, but if you use this item you'll block any remaining icons, virtually eliminating all damage your opponent does.
Winged ScarabDoes 3 air icons attacking, defends against 3 air icons and ALL physical icons. Very useful, as physical is the most common icon. Costs around 250,000 NP. This item is highly recommended for lab ray pets with low defense.
Thick Smoke BombCosts around 10,000 NP each, is a one use item, but blocks all damage done to you for a turn. I recommend buying one for important battles or using it in the case of an emergency.

Bombs
Illusens Earth PotionOne use per battle. Priced at under 1,000 NP, it does 7-9 icons, 6 earth and 1-3 physical icons.
Mud MixtureOne use per battle. Costs less than 100 NP. Heals 1-5 damage and does 6 earth icons in damage. This weapon does the exact same thing as the Caustic Potion.
Fighting FolderOne use per battle. One of the better beginners bombs, this weapon does 6-8 icons, 3 fire, 2 earth, 1-3 physical. Also restores 2 health, which is also the average amount the Mud Mixture and Caustic Potion heals.
Honey Potion750,000 NP, but arguably one of the best bombs for under 5 million. Does 13 earth icons and 0-3 physical icons. One use per battle.

If there are any weapons you feel should be on this list of recommended weapons, please feel free to neomail me with your suggestion!

Now that you're familiar with some of the more popular battledome items you may run into, this is my recommendations as far as your complete set should go.

In summation...
  • Constants (x2) - Use two Scarab Rings as they both attack and defend. However, upon reaching higher strength boosts I recommend you buying two nine icon or ten icon weapons to see a truly impressive shift in the amount of damage you do.
  • Healer - I use the Greater Healing Scroll, which will be one of the cheapest and easiest ways to heal your pet without spending too much money. Don't use the Blue Scorchstone, it's way too overpriced.
  • Stealer - The Purple Sticky Hand is clearly the way to go here, as the amount of money it would take to raise your pets Agility to 201 would cost millions, as well as a great deal of time. Purple Sticky Hand is cheap, and relatively reliable.
  • Freezer - Unless you have over 6 million NP to drop on a 100% Freezer, you'll either have to gamble with one of the cheaper items that have a 20% chance of freezing, or simply bite the bullet and buy a Scroll of Freezing. I recommend the Scroll of Freezing, just use it very sparingly so as to prevent it from breaking. It could break on the first use, or on the fifteenth, so make it worthwhile.
  • Defense (x2) - Downsize! is an absolute must. From there though, one needs a certain amount of foresight of an opponents weapons in order to block effectively. Your best bet is either the Patched Magic Hat or the Leaf Shield, Patched Magic Hat being preferred for the better icon coverage. However if your pet is a Lab Rat (With very low defense), you should use the Winged Scarab, as it blocks all physical icons, which is the most common. It's still not a bad idea to have for regular pets as well.
  • Bomb - The strategy behind using a bomb is to first freeze your opponent, then annhilate them with your bomb, a Fierce Attack, and your next best Constant. You will do a ton of damage and leave your opponent forced to use their healer.

The abilities your neopet uses during the battle has a great deal of impact on how strong or weak your attack can be. There are different types of abilities. Each neopet has several normal abilities, as well as several species-specific abilities, and then finally abilities obtained through bottled faeries, which is discussed in the next section.

Standard Abilities
Fierce AttackThis ability increases the amount of damage your pet does by 40%, as well as increase the amount of damage your pet receives by 40%.
Jump and AttackThis ability increases the amount of damage your pet does by 30%, as well as increase the amount of damage your pet receives by 30%.
Normal AttackThis ability increases the amount of damage your pet does by 20%, as well as increase the amount of damage your pet receives by 20%.
Cautious AttackNo effect.
DefendThis ability will decrease the amount of damage you will receive by 20%, as well as decrease the amount of damage you do by 20%.
Berserk AttackUnlocked at level 50. This ability increases the amount of damage your pet does by 50%, as well as increase the amount of damage your pet receives by 50%.

There are far too many species abilities to list here, especially as most of them are not of any real use. Each pet typically has several different species abilities, unlocked at differing levels between level 2-25. Also, on the pets respective species day, such as Kougra Day, several bonus abilities are unlocked for the duration of the day.

Faerie abilities are gained by your pet when you use bless your pet with a bottled Faerie. You can view your pets abilities and toggle them on and off by going to the quick reference page and click 'View Abilities'. Active abilities will not bed faded and will be animated in some way. You won't want to activate every ability, just the few in this guide I'll mention are especially useful. Your pet must be a certain level to learn the ability, and there are 6 different kinds of bottled faeries who can give your pet different abilities.

Air Faerie Abilities
Diamond DustLevel 28. Eighth air faerie ability. May freeze opponent. Disappears after successfully freezing opponent. *This is the exact same as Fiery Gaze*

Earth Faerie Abilities
BurrowLevel 10. Fourth earth faerie ability. Defends against 97.5% of all Earth, Air, Water, Fire, and Physical icons. Once per battle.
RegenerationLevel 23. Eighth earth faerie ability. Heals 33% of all lost HP. Once per battle. *Same as Restore and Healing Vapour*

Fire Faerie Abilities
Fiery GazeLevel 6. Third fire faerie ability. May freeze opponent. Disappears after successfully freezing opponent. *This is the exact same as Diamond Dust*
BoilLevel 24. Eighth fire faerie ability. Blocks all water icons. Disappears after blocking water icons. *This is the exact same as Water Breathing*

Water Faerie Abilities
QuenchLevel 9. Fourth water faerie ability. Blocks all fire icons. Disappears after blocking fire icons.
Steam ShieldLevel 12. Fifth water faerie ability. Blocks all light icons. Disappears after blocking light icons.
Water BreathingLevel 16. Sixth water faerie ability. Blocks all water icons. Disappears after blocking water icons. *This is the exact same as Boil*
Healing VapourLevel 27. Eighth water faerie ability. Heals 33% of all lost HP. Once per battle. *Same as Regeneration and Restore*

Light Faerie Abilities
RestoreLevel 22. Seventh light faerie ability. Heals 33% of all lost HP. Once per battle. *Same as Healing Vapour and Regeneration*

Darkness Faerie Abilities
Drain LifeLevel 21. Seventh darkness faerie ability. Drains 11% of your opponents health, up to 100 health, and heals your pet by that much. Better at higher levels.
SinkLevel 30. Eighth darkness faerie ability. Defends against 97.5% of all Light, Darkness, Water, Fire, and Physical icons. Once per battle.

In summation...
  • Sink and Burrow are absolute musts for every pet.
  • It's recommended your pet has Diamond Dust or Fiery Gaze as an additional way of getting in a Freeze. Diamond Dust, however, is slightly better, freezing about 17% of the time, while Fiery Gaze freezes around 12% of the time.
  • You should also have one of the following: Regeneration, Restore, Healing Vapour. This will give you back a third of your health, but only one is needed.
  • Boil and Water Shield do the same thing. Other full icon blockers, such as Quench and Steam Shield, are useful later on, or if you have sufficient knowledge of your opponents set.
  • Drain Life is another excellent way of recovering health, but doesn't become particularly useful until late in your battledome career, when opponents have very high health.

But what do you do when your pet is knocked out after a battle?

Eventually you will lose a battle, and when that happens, it is important to know what to do. There are several options:

Visit the Healing Springs
Every 30 minutes you can visit the Healing Springs, located in Faerieland. There, the faerie can either heal your pet by a certain amount of health (typically between 3 and 15), fully heal your pet, or give you a healing potion.

Use a Healing Potion
There are many healing potions you can buy for your pet. The Healing Springs sells a selection of the basic healing potions that you can buy one of every 30 minutes, in addition to receiving a free heal.

Fight Inflatable Balthazar
A free means of healing your pet is by fighting the Inflatable Balthazar. He is a default battledome opponent starting out with 1 HP, doesn't attack, and can easily be beaten by anyone. So use a cheap Healing Potion or visit the Healing Springs to restore some of your pets health, then fight Inflatable Balthazar. When you win a battle, your pet is always healed.

The purpose behind poisoning an opponent is simply to annoy them. This forces them to either visit the Healing Springs every 30 minutes to get their pet healed, or purchase a very expensive cure for their pet. Meanwhile, they can't challenge anyone as you can't fight with a pet who's sick/hungry/has no health. THEY CAN STILL RECEIVE CHALLENGES THOUGH. However, the practical use of this is minimal, mostly you'd poison an opponent to annoy him/her and to cost them some time/NP to get their pet back up and running again.

There's really only two items you should use to poison an opponent. They are the Poison Dart and Super Poison Dart. Both cost around 200 NP and 300 NP, respectively, and cause an illness which costs 60,000 NP to cure. Also they're both single use items, and they do a little bit of damage.

You may consider using Poison Snowball or Poisonous Snowflake, but don't even bother, as both cause an illness that only costs around 1,000 NP. It's really not worth it.

Every other option costs over 100,000 NP and is truly not worth it. Again, I don't recommend poisoning opponents in the first place, but if you're upset by an opponent this is a nice way to get back at them.

Please though, do not pick fights just to poison an opponent.

But what do you do if your pet is poisoned?

There are three solutions:

First, and this is by far the simplest, go to the Healing Springs once every 30 minutes. There's a chance the Fountain Faerie will completely heal your pet, removing the disease.

Second, look into the cure, and buy it if it seems worth it to you. If the Healing Springs didn't work, and you feel you need to heal your pet, you should buy the cure. However, this is exactly what the person who poisoned you wants you to do, I don't recommend this.

The third way of curing your pet takes a bit of teamwork, but ultimately it's the most reliable and quickest way of healing your pet. First, you equip a Poison Tipped Dagger, which is a 1,000 NP multiple use poisoning item. You then challenge the sick pet, use this item against them, overwriting the disease from the Poison Tipped Dagger, which costs around 200 NP to buy the cure for. Then you simply withdraw both pets, then you cure your pet. This is the easiest way of curing your pet, it just requires you to have a friend online who's willing to lend a hand.

If your pet is participating in a war, I highly recommend you go through this short check list and make sure all of the following are completed:
  • Double check all of your pets equipment, making sure everything is attached that needs to be.
  • See that there is a junk item in the first slot of your pets equipped items. Stealing items steal from the first item slot, never put anything important there, always put a junk item for the opponent to steal instead. (ex. Snow Balls, Cards, Rotten Artichoke)
  • Make sure your pet has 2 Constants, a Healer, a Stealer (optional but recommended), a Freezer, and two Defense items.
  • Your pet should have a Downsize! attached.
  • Raise your pet to the closest Strength/Defense Boost. (ex. If your pets strength is 40, the next boost is 55, so don't stop training until your pet hits 55 str)
  • Verify that your pet knows Burrow, Diamond Dust and Sink. See the faerie abilities section for more information about faerie abilities.
  • Get your pet fully healed, either by going to the Healing Springs, using a potion, or by winning a fight against Inflatable Balthazar (he doesn't attack and your pet is instantly healed after the battle is won).
  • Try to overheal, which is when the Healing Springs heals your pet above the maximum health (ex. HP: 70/55). This gives your pet an edge, as it can then endure another attack with the bonus health.

Everything a Beginner Battledomer Should Know

My guide was designed to be a stepping stone into the world of the battledome. I hope you found it helpful, if you'd like further reading check out some of the following pet pages with much more information:

I got most of my information from idb.finalhit.org, the greatest compendium of Battledome information on the web. I go to this site first for all of my Battledome needs.

Garmfry has the most comprehensive Battledome guide I have ever seen, with a great deal of information on weapons, 1-player challengers, and much much more. I highly recommend it to anyone, and I frequently use it myself.

The Weaponry

The Weaponry is a very complete compendium of all of the weapons in Neopia, and their duty in the Battledome. Great for more information about that Battledome weapon you've been considering buying.

Another guide for beginners, contains an especially detailed section on raising your pets stats.

SilverCyanide has a great number of guides, and his Battledome guide is particularly well put together, with an outstanding section on 1-Player opponents and DoN challenges, with strategy to beating each one of them.

The following folks have been kind enough to add my guide to their pages, so I should do the same for them. "Everything a Beginner Battledomer Should Know" can be found on:
