How To Make a Million from Key Quest in a Month (or Less)!

Hello there! You're probably here to make some money by playing one of Neopet's best games, Key Quest, correct? Well, I am here to tell you how how to become a millionare in a month- or less!

  • IMPORTANT:

If you are not interested in reading this entire guide, I recommend checking out my simple tricks and tips for anyone making money off of Key Quest. I have also bolded the main points of each section to make it easier for you to understand.

  • PERSONAL UPDATE (AS OF APRIL 16, 2013):

I have not been playing Key Quest on a regular basis since the beginning of 2013 due to a minor hiatus*, however I am still helping others with their KQ goals and all of my information in this guide is still applicable and used on a regular basis with others. Thank you.

    * Hiatus = Recent inactivity on Neopets, however I still check my account daily.

    Let's get started, shall we?

Part 1 - What is a "Quota" - and how do I make money off of it?

  • Oh goodness, doesn't that sound boring. What a great way to start off this guide, eh? Well, it is actually quite simple, and how I (and hopefully now you!) make riches.

I set a goal to make "x" amount of neopoints solely from playing Key Quest (discluding the money I make on my loot) in a certain amount of time. The "x" amount is the first part of my quota. The second part is a deadline for when I have to make "x" (1 month).

For example: I set a goal for myself to make 100k from playing Key Quest alone in a month, which means I keep playing games of Key Quest until my quota (100k) is reached. Then, when you are ready to sell your loot, you already have a nice profit just by playing for your neopoints!

Was that confusing up there? Let me summarize what I just said. Your quota is 2 parts: A number of neopoints to earn from playing Key Quest alone (Example: 100k) and the deadline of when to reach it (Example: 1 month). Still confusing? Neomail wocky_babo to clear up any confusion.

Part 2- What quota is right for you?

  • Your quota could be like mine, but make a quota that is right for you. My 100k in a month quota is based upon the fact that I play most of my games on the weekends, and maybe 1 to 10 on the weekdays total. I also have about a 50/50 ratio with my gold to silver keys.

Often times my quota is reached in half the time or less, which means I often make around 2 million per month (including profits from my loot + quota). Although, I like to keep my current quota because I don't feel rushed and I can start quotas for the months ahead. More quotas = more riches!

Now, back to you. If you are very active with playing Key Quest and play multiple games every day, you may want to have a quota of 50k by the end of the week. However, if you are more like me and do not have very much time during the weekdays to play, you may consider 50k in 1 or 2 weeks, depending on your skill level. 50k or more for a quota may sound like a lot, but it is reached quickly with persistence and time.

Set your perfect quota & you'll be making money in no time!

Part 3 - What do I do with all of the stuff (loot) I learned from my keys?

  • Very good question! Well, let me ask you this: would you rather make a bunch of money slow and agonizingly, or quick and all at once? My method sells your loot all at once, so you easily have the potential make 1 million in one day.

To do this, steadily redeem your keys over the course of reaching your quota and put the goods (neggs, codestones, paintbrushes, map pieces) immediately into your shop. Once your quota has been reached, price all of your loot at once by searching for the lowest price in the Shop Wizard and click the "Update" button in your shop! If your prices are 100 neopoints or lower than the lowest on the Shop Wizard, your shop should be cleaned out in a matter of hours- or even minutes! This is how you make hundreds of thousands of neopoints over the course of a day.

(Check tricks and tips on how to make easily make even more money from your loot.)

Part 4 - My Current Quota

  • The quota I like to use is 100k per month. Here is the table of how much I have made so far by using my method:

    September Quota:
    Pure NP (From Playing): 101,206
    Status: Met
    Income: About 800-900k
    October Quota:
    Pure NP (From Playing): 102,005
    Status: Met
    Income: ~800k
    November Quota:
    Pure NP (From Playing): 100,717
    Status: Met
    Income: ~800k
    December Quota:
    Pure NP (From Playing): 100,537
    Status: Met
Income: ~800k (Not including unsold SLM #1)

Here is a picture of how I organize my history of quotas on the Notepad application on my PC:

    Tricks & Tips

    • If there is a Key Quest promotion you know of coming up, spend your gold keys as much as you can until the promotion starts. Often times during a promotion, prices of Key Quest goods (codestones, neggs, paintbrushes, etc.) inflate because it is harder to obtain the better prizes during the promotion due to all of the extra junk. During the actual promotion, save your gold keys until the end so you aren't affected by not getting as many good prizes, and abundant loot will be waiting for you at the end of the promotion.
    • If your quota is 25k in 1 month and you make the quota in that amount of time, chances are you will be making around 100-200k at most from your loot and quota total. Making your quota bigger and longer may easily double your riches. Also, if you aren't the best at Key Quest, playing 2 player games (1 vs. 1) will guarantee you at least a silver key, which can still get you codestones and neggs. I used to get more silver keys than gold, and I still made about a million every two weeks.
    • Exchange your neggs at the Neggery in the Ice Caves (Terror Mountain) for Armoured Neggs. My math tells me that exchanging my neggs for as many Armoured Neggs as I can gets me three times the total I would make by selling my miscellaneous neggs alone.

Note: Depending on how many neggs you have to exchange, you may also receive less neopoints than not exchanging otherwise. You're smart; do your own math! :)

    • Look up the prices of the map pieces you earn before selling. The worst thing you can do is get the most expensive piece of a map and sell it for what you assume it might be.

Sunnyneo is my favourite place to check prices for the Secret Laboratory Map pieces. Jellyneo's item database is also another good place to check the other map pieces you may get. Just search the specific map name and find your piece! Always check the date of the last time the prices were updated, as the prices listed may be inaccurate. The trading post also has other map prices that are 90% of the time accurate (on the first page).

    • If the prizes you earn from Key Quest are not the following, then they are most likely considered "junk":

      Codestones

      Neggs

      Paintbrushes

Treasure Hunt/ Laboratory Maps of any kind

All items that are considered "junk" (books, foods, trinkets, etc.) are most likely under 100 neopoints (Check for yourself on the shop Wiz!), and will not give you as much profit as your quota or loot. Of course you can sell these items, however you may get 2-3k most from successfully selling them altogether.

      Things to do with "junk":

Discard them for the "Rubbish" avatar

Donate junk to The Money Tree for the less-fortunate

Start a gallery glorifying the mass amounts of useless cheap items you have

Troll your best neofriend & send them "junk" they don't need

Save them; they might be useful someday!

Put 10 pieces of junk on the Trading Post, and get offers for items worth 50-100 neopoints (estimating each piece of your junk is worth 1 neopoint each).

    • Never, ever quit on a game out of petty or pure desire. Not only is it against the rules and your account can get frozen for it, but it is a waste of time for you and the other players.
    • Play games of 5 keys with one other player (1 vs.1). Playing games with only one other person saves you time & the worst kind of key to get is silver, which can still get you some neggs and codestones.

    FAQ/Examples of Quotas

  • Q. What should I do when I reach my quota?

    A. That is up to you, my friend! You can start another quota or keep the riches you have and wait until you are ready to start another one. My idea of the quota is to give you and others an idea of how to benefit from your riches the most you can. Customize this strategy guide to your benefit!

    Q. I'm not ready to sell my current loot, and I have started on a new quota. What do you suggest I do?

    A. If you don't care about keeping track of how much money you have made per quota, then sell your loot as you please. If you want to keep track, I recommend putting all of your loot in your SDB (Safety Deposit Box) to separate your current loot until your current loot has been completely sold. If you have 3 or more quotas of loot piling up, start putting your 3rd set of loot in your gallery, or find other ways to keep track of your loot.

    Q. I'd love to reap the benefits from your strategies, but I don't know how to play Key Quest.

    A. No problem! There are probably hundreds of KQ guides out there, so look over a few & play a few games to get the hang of the jist. My friend and guild leader Poten has many excllent guides that you can check out to gain some tips. Check out his other pet's petpages for map/game guides, token lists, and more. Good luck!

    Q. Do you really make 1 million on each of your quotas?

    A. More or less, yes. I've achieved about 800k from my loot each quota, and on top of the 100k I've made from playing it adds up pretty close to a million. I also strongly believe that you and others like you can easily make a million, so make sure to inform me on your progress! I would love to hear feedback.

People who have used the quota strategy and their riches:

    unfreeze_or_liron (Lily)

    Her quota: 50k A month

    Status: 50k/50k

    Income: Over 500k!

    rachepache (Rachel)

Her quota: 200k by the end of October (Wow! Kudos!)

    Satus: Undetermined

Please neomail me (wocky_babo) if you would like to share your quota totals on this strategy guide. I would greatly appreciate it.
