A few days after I was born, I happened across a cabinet in Ray's bedroom. It had a lot of little bottles with cork stoppers and I couldn't help myself. I didn't know she collects collections, so I had no clue that the little glass bottle with bright yellow scales could contain anything dangerous.
All I wanted was a sniff. Yes, I was stupid enough to mess with Ray's little collection bottles, I wasn't stupid enough to *drink* from them. but a sniff, apparently, activated the contents.
Originally the Keratin Curse had a flower as the carrier. When Ray sniffed that particular flower (in a boquet sent by ... a tricksome friend), her wings changed, from the fairly standard dragon wings into large feathered bird wings. However, the feathers were actually made out of keratin, the same stuff as fingernails. Now, among Ray's collections is a "curse collection," and after a few months with "Clatterwings"--nicknamed so for the clattering sound they make--she managed to reduce the curse to its original form--a scent--and captured it in a bottle.
So, upon sniffing the contents of this lovely bottle, my wings changed into large, feathery, keratin wings. I found I rather liked them, however, so Ray let me keep them.
Of course, it was still a curse. There were negative side effects. The wings required an obscene amount of care. And they were *heavy*. I couldn't fly that well in them.

So when I finally decided on a color, Ray arranged to pull the curse back into its bottle. I was painted White, and the magic of the Neopets White Paint Brush was enough to allow me to slip out of the keratin feathers, which Ray bottled once again. With my newly increased manueverability, Ray's cousins, the Third Moon Family, started paying more attention to me, and within a few days, requested that I join them as a messenger. As I've been bored without Rescuees to chronicle, I agreed. However, there was one condition; since Ray's cousins are still recovering from a war, they have very high security and attack "Unmarked" wings on sight. I had to tattoo my wings. After much sketching, we came up with a design for the tattoos for my wings. The customary design of the Third Moon family is similar to the pattern I have, though my "colors" are a lot more vivid than their tradtional Goldenrod, Teal, and Red Ochre. I know other Neopets may have tattoos here and there, but traditionally just a small symbol or picture. My tattoos, obviously, are a lot more dramatic, though the pattern means nothing to most Neopians. However, they permit me safe passage in Third Moon territory, as well as lands controlled by their allies. Personally, I think they are pretty, and they tint my hide in a mottled blend of cyan, yellow, and magenta. I chose these colors over the traditional family colors because despite being a messenger for them, I'm not one of their species and cannot claim kinship. The Chronicler of the Third Moon Family offered to adopt me as her apprentice, but I declined. For the time being, my home is Neopia. |

Another beauty by LunarMystic! |
I recently found out that I am what Ray calls "Psi." It means I have some mental powers. Not magic; I can't perform spells or create potions, and a "wand" is just another stick. I used to "hear voices," which is usually a sign of insanity. I suppose it's considered a sign of insanity in part because people with unrecognized psychic talents often go insane due to a lack of training.
Thankfully, Aunt Laouja (We call her Aunt Lue), recognized my small talent and kept it under control without me being aware of it until she could find the time to properly train me. She has been spending the past half year working extensively with Rhapscallyon, whose amazing mental powers came upon her completely by surprise. Now that Rhaps has firm handle on her abilities, Lue has found herself with two more students.
| Draikeneko's owner drew this, forgot to tell me, and I forgot that I had asked for it! Silly us! |
My strongest talent lies in mental communication; I can read people's minds, and I can talk to them without speaking. I have a "range" of about half a mile under normal circumstances, and can reach a bit farther if I want to communicate with another Psi. I also have a touch of telekinesis. I can't move big heavy things, but with some concentration, I can move grains of sand. I can move a lot of grains of sand at once, which Lue finds interesting, and Ray is looking into "glitter sculptures." As it is, Lue forbade me from entering family sand castle contests.

| Aqua drew this just for me, wasn't that nice of her? |
Working with the Third Moon Family is a lot of fun. There are three other Trainees, and even though they're not sure about me yet, I'm earning their respect on the obstacle course and in the weaposn training class. I have a different wing-type and body structure than they do, and once my wings healed up from the tattooing, I've demonstrated the small advantages I have over them in some areas. They're a lot better than me at some sorts of fancy flying, but I've surpassed them enough that they don't disregard me.

SailorNezumi drew this tattoo adoptable for me, I felt it was quite appropriate :D |
By the way, Deakio means "Defender in the Shadows" in Ray's native language. My cousin deaKyiss, is "Moon-in-shadow." Those are the only two names so far that have some meaning in Ray's language. I think that if I could bring Deakio with me, that even though my name doesn't mean anything in their language, they'll recognize that I understand them enough to know the meaning of a Kio.
It has been brought to my attention that the excessively bright colors of my wings might ... prove a disadvantage to a courier in a warlike environment. Well, I considered that as I was choosing my colors, and I decided to follow the Poison Frog Example. Anything so obvious as myself could potentially be much more dangerous than the appearance suggests, and I'm sure word of me will spread. Couriers have a protected status among civilized beings.
| Lindivor's owner, Twelve_52, made this as an adoptable. Wow. |

I'd like to take a moment to comment about tattoos. I got mine done by a professional, in a clean studio, and had Ray there holding my hand. Despite the studio's cleanliness, however, tattoo parlours are still highly suspect and thus having a recent tattoo forbids one from donating blood.
There are a lot of risks involved in getting tatoos, including the possibility of getting a potentially dangerous disease. Even if you don't catch a bug, tattoos HURT LIKE CRAZY even long after they're done being put into your skin. I could hardly *move* my wings for three days afterwards! |

I recently enrolled with a group of Draiks called The Grey Guard. It is a subgroup of the larger Draik Clan, and it is dedicated to defending the Clan and its members. Actually, I'm still not entirely sure what we're supposed to be doing, but so far it hasn't been so bad. During my time with the Third Moon Family, I trained n a variety of weapons until I found a style and weapon that suited me. Due to my natural speed, I am best at a "hit and dodge" approach, using my agility to avoid attacks instead of a traditional sword and shield. My favorite weapon is The Lopper, affectionately called Loppy; she's a halberd a shade longer than I am, with a pronged blade and several spikes. I've proven excellent with a quarterstaff, and I've adjusted my use of Loppy to reflect my strength with hafted weapons, and so far ... I've been very effective. Loppy was a gift from Landersen, one of the various deities who rule over blacksmithing. Unlike a certain blacksmith in a certain movie I'd rather not name, Landersen is a massive fellow, built along the same lines as an oak tree in a field. Down to the fact that his hair sticks out in all directions! He's not exactly a "god" by most definitions, but he is definitely divine. He imprinted my personal sigil in the metal of The Lopper's blade, and taught me how to do repeat it on my own. Now that I know the trick, it's getting easier every time and it's a great temptation to fight, I want to put my symbol on all sorts of things. So far I've limited myself to my personal belongings though! When I'm faced with an opponent who has a longer reach than I do, I tend to use Loppy with just one hand, and use a whip in the other. Ambidextrousness is a grand wonderful thing! I have several whips, ranging from seven to twelve feet in length, though I generally use my nine-foot whip. None of them have names, unfortunately, because I haven't completely settled on a whip style. Ray commented that she's thinking of finding or making me a special whip. I'll post a followup to this if I find out anything else. |
| Sara100302's owner, lynnette112298, did this cute adoptable for me. *loves getting adoptables* |
I have a very large family! There are actually several other members of the family who don't have buttons yet; we're hoping to get them added to the official list soon!

Ever since the start of May, 2003, I've been a member of the Draik Clan. I've made some cool friends there, and I've adopted one of their traditions; the Clan Quilt. In the interest of Sharing Links, members of the Draik Clan are encouraged to make a 50x50 pixel image, and upload it to their image hosting service for other members to use as a link button.
Of course, I *had* to get creative.

Mom started the "Flowerpot Draik Adoptables. She made a custom of me, because I'm *her* Draik. All of the Flowerpot Draiks are currently living on Do Not Eat Khreet!.
Ray's Rescued Pets
Unfortunately, Ray has discontinued her practice of "beautifying" pets from the pound. She says it's too depressing, too expensive, and too time-consuming. If she ever decides to start it up again, it will likely take place on a different account.
However, we'll continue to keep hold on to the records of our rescued pets for the time being. Read below to see some of the pets I used to know.
