The Misleader

Luminescence; the moniker is not so much a name as it is a statement of the obvious by my dumbstruck parents. They weren't terribly bright, my parents – oh, pardon that pun – but I suppose that they could not help it. I was born not two miles from where they had been born. And they had been born not two miles from where their parents had been born. And their parents, well, even if they had been born one hundred miles away in any direction, they wouldn't have even come close to the nearest city. My parents were not naive to the modern world, but they did not care for the "educated folk" who they had run across in their lives. When I was born, my tail-tip glowing dimly, they were sure I would not last to adulthood. The sheen was a death sentence; any predator could spot me from miles away, any prey the same.
All the same, they taught me the conventional way of life that our family has lead for generations. I hunted rabbits and small game, like my family… but I relied heavily on tools to help me. Snares, lures, and determination. The beacon of my own body warned away all but the dumbest prey. I was a poor trapper, and ended up turning to an Outreach program from the Big City to fulfill my need for clothes and food. This was my life for a number of years, surviving on the fringe of… well, fringe society, until one night. I don't want to call it fateful, but I suppose that is what it was. It was several hours after sunset when I left the small Outreach encampment to head home. While most of my family spent the day sleeping, and the night hunting, my "handicap" forced me to change my habits. Not only because of my prey, but because of the predators; large, feral Lupes roamed the area, and they took no issue with attacking Anthros. The beasts didn't enter my family's territory most of the time, as the pickings tended to be slim when competing with other large predators, but I was in a no-man's land… the corridor followed a ravine that all creatures, biped and quadruped relied upon for their water. As I walked, I could hear the dim swishing of feet in the under brush, four following my two. A change of pace did not dissuade the creature tailing me, but seemed the pique its interest. Soon, I was running, and it after me – I dashed across a felled tree, and finding the far bank of the ravine I turned to face my attacker, my tail sweeping out into open air… and the canine following. A resounding splash marked its decent into the water, and I stood, peering down into the darkness…
In the Fur

Luminescence is an unassuming creature in quad form. She is 20 centimeters from nose to rump, 40 with tail, and only about seven centimeters tall at the shoulder. Her legs, obviously, are rather short; while her hind legs could be long, she walks plantigrade, with her heels on the ground, shortening her stride considerably. She has large, round ears set close to her head and bright blue eyes with large pupils. She has two black stripes from her forehead to the tip of her tail. A tuft of longer fur - a mane - starts half way down her neck. It and the tip of her tail glow dimly. Both areas are light blue in colour.
Anthro
Lumii is a strangely proportioned girl. Though she is 5'7 and slender, she is far from your average "pretty girl". Her face is wide, and her mouth spans much of it. Large, bright blue eyes are set just a little farther apart than normal, framed by a mess of black hair. Her nose is small. Her neck is longer than your average person's, and her posture has a strange sway to it, as if she is always tilting her torso backwards. Speaking of her torso, it's unusually long, which only makes her legs seem shorter. Her fur is healthy and well enough groomed, though she'd recently taken to trying to dye her glowing fur black... unsuccessfully. (The transparent fur over the bioluminescent patches of her skin repels dye.) She is hyper-aware of her tail and tends to swat it back and forth, a habit from using it as a decoy in the forest. Luminescence does not really know how to dress. She wears over-sized hoodies and blue jeans, often without shoes. The girls she lives with are trying to improve her wardrobe with little success.

Personality
Lumii is mischievous; a trouble maker. She is desperate to obtain control of her life and the situations around her, and she manages this by undermining authority. She has limited affection for her family, remembering them fondly but not wishing to return to her birthplace. Because she spends much of her time deceiving others she is extremely wary of people's intent. She is just as likely to dislike you for giving her a gift or helping her as she is to dislike you for harming her. Her perspective being that the latter is the ultimate goal of either, simply put forwards more obviously. As a child she was poorly socialized and it shows. Though she's been living in High Hopes for several weeks, she has only just started to interact with her building-mates, befriending a Lupe, Jeulious, who shares her luminescent affliction. Luminescence finds solace in plant-life, and has begun to tend a garden on the roof of the high-rise, giving her an excuse to abscond from group activities to care for her plants. This keeps her out of trouble (for the most part.)
History
After discovering the advantage that her luminescence gave her when wielded properly, Lumii started to lure creatures; first the predators, away from her vulnerable families, then her prey, into her waiting traps. As she grew older and more rebellious, she challenged herself, leading hikers off of paths, and hunters from herding grounds. Soon there was a group dedicated to rescuing people lost in the forest – lost because of her. It gave her a sense of control that she had never had in her younger years… until the rangers found her and turned her in to child services. At her age, with no formal education and a bad attitude, she was left in the system to rot. She was illiterate, and had no skills for living in the city; the first car she saw was the one that picked her up from the Forest Station. After a few months and just as many foster families, she ran into Klieru as he was selling some paintings on the street. Intrigued by his artwork, she loitered nearby until stealing a piece she was particularly fond of. After this happened three times, Klieru had Dilumas – a master of deceit, and his roommate - stand by to catch the thief. Upon catching her in the act, the boys realized she was little more than a child and encouraged her to move into an empty room in Klieru's apartment building. Suspicious, but faced with criminal charges, Lumii reluctantly agreed.

The world as we know it
The world of Kisme is a small one, with five major landmass groupings, each with an independent form of government. The diversity of life on Kisme is astounding, with many creatures – vertebrates included! – having six, or in some cases eight limbs, chitinous wings, multiple eyes, or other biological traits unimagined on Earth. Sentience spans from clothes-wearing bipeds to otherwise animalistic quadrupeds, making etiquette and culture as varied as the life forms which practice it. There are certainly social and developmental strata on the planet, most easily noted by the differences of the continents.
Kisme, the main landmass, is characterized by heavy urbanization and high technology. Kisme has two lobes, the northern and southern, mostly separated by a system of rivers and lakes. Acting as a single country, Kisme has everything from arctic masses on its northernmost coasts, to rainforests where the equator passes through. With the highest population density, natural spaces are getting scarce, but they still exist. In particular, the boreal forests in the northern-most part of the continent are almost completely untouched. This is where Luminescence was born. It is easily the economic and social forerunner of the planet, with a West-coast Capital City which boasts the best shopping on the planet. The primary plot currently being run on the planet is the "High Hopes" apartment building, where most of my characters live. High Hopes is in Terne, the industrial "shadow city" of Kisme City, which provides most, if not all of the glittering metropolis' amenities and workers, without any of the wealth.
Just a note; the capital city is, in fact, "Kisme", making the address "Kisme City, Kisme, Kisme" (City, country and planet.) This is because the city, continent and planet are all named after the God who made the planet. He's a bit of a narcissist.
But when you make a planet, you can be a narcissist.
I am not entirely sure where this story is heading from here – I hope to flesh it out and to add some eloquence soon, however the deadline looms before me, so a synopsis will have to do. Lumii will develop relationships with all of my characters and the characters of my friends. She will likely acquire a pet, get a job, and grow. I like my characters to live life. Even though they are fantasy creatures in a bizarre and magical world, I want them to be… just people.
