A pirate's tale long ago told of a pair of pirates named Haishoi and Rakinn. Quite the unlikely pair, these two sailed the Neopian Seas having vast adventures. Yet, one tale is seldom ever told. The tale is one involving a krawk they encountered in the stormy waters of Maraqua. An anglerkrawk by the name of Lumidi.
None had ever seen the likes of her, and probably never will again. She had the majesty of a mermaid, the cunning that only a true krawk could have, and a light that drew you towards her, quite literally. No one was sure from where she came, but she saved the lives of two pirates, and will not soon be forgotten.

As two pirates were sailing the seas, fighting as usual, a storm came upon them with such ferocity, that it brought them closer than they ever thought they'd be. Having lost their crew, most of their food, and all of their determination, the two relied on each other to keep them going. When the outlook would get so bleak that one would consider "walking the plank", the other would bring them back to their senses, convinced that someone would rescue them.
The two pirates were Haishoi and Rakinn. It was common knowledge to both of them (being seasoned pirates) that after a time out at sea without food, one started to hallucinate. They played word games to keep each other sane, as their ship drifted aimlessly in the sea. In the dead of night, as they stared up at the sky on a silent windless night wondering if they'd ever see home, they heard a splash nearby. Haishoi jumped up quickly to see what it could be. Even the tiniest fish could be of some use to them. As she stared out over the water, she saw a light, just under the surface.

Well, I'll be, Rakinn! Davey Jones has come to lead us to our own lockers! Look! See his light?

Rakinn came to the ship's edge and to his horror, he saw the same light. He thought for a moment, trying to think of some comforting words, trying to convince himself that it wasn't meant to end like this. After a few moment of watching the light dance beneath the surface, he finally spoke.

Could it be a mermaid, m'dear Haishoi? Triton's sent us a beacon to take us to land!
I hope you're right, Rakinn. I hope you're right!

The light turned out to be Lumidi, the anglerkrawk. She'd been following the ship's drifting course for days, and had grown attached to the pirates' comforting words to each other, despite their bickering. She knew where the land lay, and if they were smart enough, they'd follow her to it. Though she had a silent love for the pirates, she didn't dare say a word to them for quite some time. Only when they got silent did she splash around and regain their attention. For days she led them on into calmer waters with nary a sound. As land came into view however, she revealed herself, not as a mermaid or as Davey Jones leading them to their death, but as their savior. To be sure, they were startled to hear another voice from the depths! They imagined they'd both lost their wits, but Lumidi assured them they still had their sanity. She told them they were the only to have seen her, and then whenever they were lost at sea, she'd be honored to be their guardian and guide. The rewarded her with the never-ending friendship at the shores. And to remember the two pirates, they each gave her a seashell, which she permanently attached to her lighted staff.
To this day, Haishoi and Rakinn will say that they wouldn't be alive were it not for that special krawk. And to this day, Lumidi says she would have no purpose were it not for the two pirates. They each saved each other. One from a gruesome death at sea, and the other from a life of silence and solitude.

Lumidi was surely unique from other krawks...

In getting to know Lumidi better, the two pirates found out there was much that she liked and disliked. These are just a sample of those things.

By blood they weren't a family, but there reached a point where calling them 'friends' seemed like an insult after a while.

Haishoi.
Haishoi was the backbone of things. She never stepped down from a challenge, and even though Rakinn called himself the captain, Haishoi was captain of a prior ship. Old habits die hard. But she definitely let Rakinn take care of her when the occasion came.

Rakinn.
Rakinn was the gentle pirate. He always tried looking on the bright side to keep Haishoi's temper from getting out of control. A fan of grog (which his ample belly will testify!) and old adventures, Rakinn was a true pirate at heart. It was he who kept the two from being afraid of Lumidi.

Lumidi had lived a life of solitude and silence before Haishoi and Rakinn, so friends were hard to come by. As of yet, no stories have been told of any...

A short tale mentioned a little silver Tanizard that befriended Lumidi. She had been attracted to her light while most under the seas had feared it. Though they each never uttered a sound to the other, the two became inseparable, finding someone who understood them fully. To this day, it's said, Mai still swims the seas by Lumidi's side.
