Londer's Guide to Adopting

Remember when you first picked your neopet, skipped long happily, and gave it some cheesy name like bunnysare_socute6754. Then once you were out of that newbie stage you left that pet after shooting it with the lab ray a few times and claiming it "unlucky" because it kept on turning into a split uni. Well, ones lab rat pet is another owners dream pet, and that's were we come in in the process. But what happens if you aren't fast enough or you aren't old enough? That's where I come in. So, take a peak around and maybe it will help you find your dream pet.

Step 1
Before you go anywhere, understand that this is the pound and you must pick between "adopt" or "pound", aka the pink uni or freaky techo guy. Here's what cha' do...

Pound:Don't leave meeeee!" Well, if you have to make room for that "dream pet" you have to give up a pet if you have 4 of them. Another reason that you might pound is because you got tired of your pet because you think that it's ugly or has a bad name or something. Anyway, it's going to cost you 250 np per pet and that pet has to be at least seven days old.

Adopt: This is where you could find that "dream pet" but it costs you on the pets level and skill. Pay, attention though because if you are under four months you cannot adopt pets that are painted (except if they are blue, yellow, red, green, pink, brown, shadow, white, orange, purple, silver, skunk, glowing, checkered, invisible, speckled and split pets), Limited Edition (like Draiks, Krawks, Chompies, etc), and is over the level 2. It's just another one of neopets rules, and sometimes adoption centers follow the same rule even with the colors that you can adopt.

WARNING!!! Pets that are above level 2, are limited-edition species, or that have been painted with certain rare or expensive paintbrushes, CANNOT be adopted by any account younger than four months. So be careful when abandoning a pet, if you're planning on trying to re-adopt it!

Step 2
Transfering is a huge part to finding a pet that you really want. You may need to check an adoption center or someone putting there pet up for adoption (UFA), but sometimes you can find a friend who wants to give there pet up to you. People now want apps or applications for petpages or lookups. Some can be short like a poem or drawing, others require a whole petpage. There are many places are people that are willing to "transfer" or set up a date to get you that pet that they are leaving. Here are some ways so that you get the pet and don't miss him/her.

Tips to Trans , now you have to be quick so that you pet doesn't get snatched. People looked for painted and well named pets in the long run as well as LE pets. One way that is oh so useful is Quick Adopt. Now here's what you do, once you have made it to the adoption page and see a different selection of pets there will be a button that says " Adopt-A-Pet Search Engine" which you will want to click on. If you already know the pet's name, type it in a select him/her (just make sure that you have enough neopoints to adopt).

Apps, or applications are a new thing the neopet owners have started to make sure that you are worthy of there pet and willing to go the distance. Now as I said before, some want short apps like a neomailed forum, a poem, or even a picture. Then there are the people that usually have high quality pets such as a baby that request a whole petpage probably with all of the short app things and more. It's work but it helps you get that pet and allows the owner to trust you.

Tips: I. Are to mainly make your own layouts, NOT premades because people aren't dumb and know what they are looking at.
2. Also, don't use chat speak ( any 1 wuld adpt Le @ noon) because that just bugs people and rejects your app.
3. Lastly, make sure that this isn't a scam, set up a date, and make sure that this person is really telling the truth.

Not quite Apps, but Hey! Well, now I always see people pleading for apps, poems, petpages, long ,long neomails, and pictures for a pet that really isn't that wonderful. I have looked up a lot about this from other sites (who will hopefully become affies) that have a good point. Just because you put everyone through this trial and challenge, that DOES NOT mean that they are the right owner. In fact the right owner could be the person who can't draw the best, but no you pick the one who can. The fact is, people do try really hard for apps and sometimes fail after working all week on a petpage or poem. Honestly, I just wonder if a plain old neomail would work...and come to a point were the owners get smart and they learn about the one who wants to adopt. This has been a small problem in the neo-area, so you pick.

Step 3
Misses! The worst part of this adoption game is if you miss that pet that you want and someone beats you to him. If too many people know about this pet being pounded, you might lose your chance. So you have to be quick, swift, and listen. Since it's any ones game and anyone (under four months, depending on the pet) can adopt that doesn't mean that the winner has to give the pet back to you. It's there pet now, so don't beg, unless they pick to give it back. However, sometimes people don't give out pets names but only to one or two people so they have more of a chance.

Begging, Newbies listen up no one likes a beggar. So don't ask for a person's pet becuase they worked for them, not you. Unless you have worked hard to make an app, don't be pleading for that pet since you "missed it", alright? That means no boards on "Is anyone pounding there pet, I'll take them?" because people will report you and you will be sad. Sometimes people get neomails from people that actually start asking for their pets! Geezzz, now if you want your painted pet work your way up to getting a Lab Ray or Paint Brush.

Step 4
Glitches...*sigh*. Yes, neopets has it faults and sometimes they are not pretty. One person claimed that the "biggest glitch of all" is that you have to be four months old to adopt certain pets ,which I have said so many times (*laughs*). Well, although that is a rule and not a glitch here are some:

Stuck If you pet is "stuck" in the pound it probably is not "rare", but sometimes there is a problem and that pet is having a hard time getting adopted. I am not sure if a pet has been in the pound forever and what happens to those that never do. My guess is that they all get adopted at some point. The longest that I have heard a pet be stuck in the pound was a week!

Refreshing, this problem has become a biggie, I guess, because it is popping up everywhere on newer accounts. It reads "So sorry! Our system failed to retrieve a range of pets! Try again by refreshing the page!" as a little robot with a big eye pops up. Its either saying that there aren't enough pets in the pound, you are clicking or refreshing to hard, or as some people are saying: you are too young (four moths or under) to see all of the pets up for adoption. I don't know if the last one is true, but who knows! Some have reported it happening all the time and some say that they hardly see that pop up.

When you are Transfering with firefox and Internet Explorer, "It involves having your account open on the abandon page in one browser and the quick adopt in the other. This makes things really easy, so you can't really fail. Unless it glitches, or you fall into a coma."- Thanks xbluexbloodsx
