History



Krawk Island was first discovered on the 17th of April 2001 when a pirate captain was spotted in Maraqua. The Krawk Neopet was later discovered on the 10th of January 2002 to the delight of Neopians wanting that slightly different and rare reptillian Neopet. In fact, the Krawk Petpet was a released as a normal petpet before this all happened on the 3rd of April 2001, and it is actually a Tyrannian Petpet!

Extract from the Neopian News 10th January 2002:

  • The FUNGUS CAVE has just been uncovered on the scurvy Krawk Island... folks have been talking about strange creatures popping up all over the island... they look like Krawks but are much much bigger. Can you work out what is going on?!?!

    • Everyone was desperate to get this most difficult to create of pets, and it didn't take long for them to work out how, but at a high price. When it was first discovered you needed a Krawk Petpet to create a krawk (the potions weren't released yet at this point!) the going price for one was over 1 million neopoints!! Which was a very high price in those days!

    Krawks did actually go down in price after a while, you may be shocked to hear this now but once Krawk Petpets were only 300k, and Krawk Transmogrification Potions could be picked up for 100k on the Trading Post!

    And still to this day the Krawk is one of the most sought after of Neopets, and one of the more expensive with the prices ever rising with inflation.








    How to Create a Krawk.



    Now this is the question I have been asked hundreds of times, along with every other Krawk owner in neopia, how in Neopia do you get a Krawk?? There are three main ways to get a krawk, they are as follows;

    1. Krawk Petpet

    The krawk petpet has been out for ages, but when a new land was released, Krawk Island, you were able to transform these special petpets into the fully grown Krawk neopets.

    First thing you have to do is buy the petpet, like one of the ones above. You can get them in Normal (Green), Blue, Red, Yellow, Pink, Brown, Cloud, Halloween, Faerie and Plushie. (Possibley Grey soon aswell) The colour which they are as a petpet will be their colour when they transform. Eg. a Faerie Krawk Petpet will turn into a Faerie Krawk Neopet.

    You can usually find krawk petpets on the Trading Post for around 5 Million Neopoints, or maybe a little less on the auctions if you are lucky. This is a rough estimate as the prices rise and fall all the time.

    You can buy them from the neopian shops, but they're very rare and extremely difficult to get. They're in the Tyrannian Petpet Shop, not the Krawk Island Petpet shop like you might think!

    I was lucky as I bought mine when they were 350k-400k.

    Once you have the petpet, you have to give it to one of your pets. (Note: You can only have a maximum of three pets to get another neopet Krawk, as the petpet is made as a totally seperate NEW pet. If you have too many, make it on another account or abandon one of your current ones).

    One problem with transforming a krawk petpet into the neopet is that you don't know what gender it'll be. Some say that if it's on a female, it'll be a female too, but mine turned out to be a male, so it must be random.

    Most people get around this by giving the petpet a name which will be good for both male and female, and keeping it a colour which it doesn't matter what it is.

    Once you've given it a unique name, one that noone else has, and made the pet with the krawk your active pet, you have to take it to the Fungus Cave on Krawk Island. The picture below shows you where it is on the map.

    When you are there, you will see that your krawk petpet is hungry, and it gives you the option to feed your krawk. It should look like the picture below:

    If you have done something wrong, like your pet doesn't have a unique name, or your pet is not the active one, you will only get the picture below:

    When you click on "YES!" an alert box will pop up asking if you are sure you want to feed your petpet.

    Click "Ok" and you will have your very own Krawk Neopet!

    The one problem I had, was the gender as I explained above. My lovely faerie female krawk... turned out to be male. And the only way (at that time) to change it back without using the lab ray, was by buying a special potion called a Strange Potion.

    This potion is extremely hard to get hold of so it may take a while, but I found one in the auctions. The problem with auctions is that they are extremely difficult to win, and sometimes you have to get up at odd hours in the morning to make sure you get it. I managed it at 6:20am and here's the result.

    The potion costs over 1 Million Neopoints now, inflation really has hit everything hard.

    Luckily there is now another way to change a pet's gender IF you have access to the Secret Laboratory Ray on your account, which doesn't involve actually zapping your pet. All you have to do is refresh here and you should get him as a challenger. Then battle him and as one of the side effects he changes your pet's gender!! Watch out though... he can deal some nasty damage when he wants to X.x

    Finally, there is one last way to change the gender of your pet, but this way only from Male to Female! First, your pet has to have read just one book, doesn't matter which, and then equip your pet with the item Cape of the Sun. Then, go into a battle with Punchbag Bob, and select the Cape and make a move. You don't have to do any damage or anything. End the battle and go to your Quick Ref page. Now they should be female! No event appears to tell you, so just check for it. Cheap books you can use are: Neopian Times Issue 3, Waterlogged Book or Mystery of the Kougra Paw.

    This sun-blessed cape can do all sorts of things, depending on how your Neopet uses it...

    Some people have managed to zap a Krawk petpet through using the Petpet Laboratory ray! But I have some bad news for you... I'm afraid they won't turn into adult Krawk neopets!! They disabled that quick :( Here's a picture of a Zapped Krawk petpet with an original name being taken to the Fungus Cave so you can see it won't work.     2. Morphing Potions

    This is the second and slightly less expensive way, as long as you use a Krawk Transmogrification potion and not a Blue Krawk Morphing Potion or similar.

    Krawk transmogrification potions cost usually around 1.9 Million Neopoints on the trading post, you might find one in the auctions for cheaper. Or you could be lucky enough to get given one by Dr. Sloth, like what happened to me.

    All you have to do with the potion is give it to your neopet. You can give it to any species of neopets, it doesn't have to be a krawk to start with at all.

    The good thing about this is that you can choose your krawks gender straight away, so you won't have to use Strange Potions or anything, and your Pet will fit it's name straight away.

    Now, quite a lot of people don't like the look of the mutant krawk, so say they would never use the potion. But... you can just paint your pet!

    Most people get a cheap paintbrush like a Yellow or Green one and paint their pet as soon as they use the potion, so straight away it's a Yellow or Green Krawk Neopet. I painted mine Striped.

    3. Magical Plushies

    You could buy a Magical Plushie to change your pet into a krawk too... The one problem with this is that the plushies are extremely rare, and are more expensive than the Krawk Transmogrification Potion.

    4. The Secret Laboratory

    The third and last way to get a Krawk Neopet might be the least expensive, but is extremely hard to achieve.

    First of all you have to have a complete lab map, which costs around 50/60k per map piece, totaling from 450/500k in price, depending if you find any pieces randomly or cheap in the shops.

    After that it's simple. All you have to do is zap the pet you want to turn into a krawk and hope for the best! Even though it is extremely rare, and I haven't seen solid evidence of it yet... It could happen ^^

    5. Adoption Center

    If you are extremely lucky, you might be able to find a Krawk in the Adoption Center. Just be warned, they are very hard to find and adopt as they are so rare!

    You can only get this avatar if you took a part in the Tale of Woe plot and scored at least 1 point. Click here if you did!

  • You can tell whether a Krawk is a Natural Born Krawk from it's statistics! If the height of the "Krawk" is exactly or very close to 100cms, and the weight 120lbs, then the pet is petpet born. If they are completely different then they were created a different way and not from a petpet!

  • If you want to make your pet look like they've been made from a petpet, the species with the closest Height and Weight statistics from birth are the Uni and Grarrl!

  • The Krawk Petpet is actually from the Tyrannian Petpet Shop, not from the one on Krawk Island!

  • The statistics showing how many Krawks there are in Neopia are really incorrect! These statistics only show the natural born krawks and not ones made by Potions or Plushies! So in fact there are thousands more krawks in Neopia!

  • You cannot create a fully grown Krawk Neopet from a zapped krawk petpet! TNT have disabled this option.

  • When you were first able to create Krawks from Petpets, when you used a Pink Krawk, you got a Red Krawk Neopet!

  • Using a Krawk Transmogrification Potion on your pet doesn't necessarily mean you'd be stuck with an ugly Mutant Krawk, you can always repaint them another colour afterwards!

  • On April 17th 2007, TNT decided to re-release the Cloud Krawk Petpet by accident, but with a slightly different image!
