[about libson's design]
Libson was really exciting to draw and the back-story to his design was fun to create as well.
As you can see I've taken the quad approach to him, for his overall bodyshape I made him appear alien to normal neopets. Considering he's dead I wanted to make him really strike the viewer as something else! I tried, however, to not make him too ugly, and I think that he actually has a ghostly charm about him ;) Even though I've changed Libson from the normal Blumaroo image quite a bit, he still has the familiar Blumaroo nose, feet and fairly similar tail.
The string Libson carries with two silver coins attached is the first thing I thought up for Libson. In Grecian/Roman mythology, you must be buried/cremated with two silver coins on each of your eyes. This is because (in the mythology) you must pay two silver coins to get across the river Styx, Styx being the river that surrounds Hades (the Underworld).
As for the markings on his back legs, they are symbols from an ancient language, Im not sure which. haha. The three on his right leg stand for the three most noble things he accomplished while living. The three on the opposite leg are the three symbols for the worst things he did while living. This is a fairly eerie idea, but I think it captures the 'forever' quality of ghosts, stamped for eternity with merits and faults.
I: lost memories
/Not what happened yesterday, no, I can recall with perfect clarity the happenings of the last thousand years.
Ive forgotton what I'm supposed to do next. The tide that draws the dead to the underworld does not reach me.
I yearn to rest, but I cannot find that dark river that surrounds my final rocky resting place.
The sun does not warm me. Water does not quench my thirst. The wind does not move through my fur.
I want to go home. I want to sleep. I cant remember, I've forgotten. I yearn to rest./
II: better to die on your feet than to live on your knees
Libson walked listlessly down the riverside. His eyes studied the clamorous sheets of water weave through rocks and pull debris in its swell. He was thinking deeply and his chest was filled with the pressure that accompanies the feeling of intense excitement and apprehension.
why did I take it upon myself? he thought stepping over a clump of damp moss, no one else would, but I did.
A familiar voice called him and he looked over his shoulder. His eyes met the the face of his old friend Eunoe. Her normally vibrant face was screwed up into a frown and her clear blue eyes were strained with worry.
Libson felt his heart ache, he knew because of what he had done he would never see her again. Despite this pang to his heart, his eyes were steady and his face was tranquil.
/You took his place...Do you know what this means Libson?/ Eunoe's eyes entreated him. /You're going to the Wars in my fathers place.../ she continued, as if clarifying the situation with herself, here gaze was strained on the river but they did not see it.
/Eunoe,/ said Libson, seeking her gaze,
/Im only sad that I might not see you again./ Eunoe lifted her face and the two pairs of eyes met and exchanged thoughts. Libson felt a surplus of energy well up inside him, he felt noble and brave, he felt grave and above all peaceful within himself.
/Thank you, Libson/ said Eunoe, the tears that scarce had a place in Eunoes eyes began to collect. Libson smiled at her without effort, his face was honest and confident. Eunoe's eyes wavered for just a moment, then she gave one of her famous sly smiles. /I'll see you in a little while./ she said taking a reluctant step backward.
/In a little while./ repeated Libson.
Eunoe turned quickly homeward and her pace did not slacken. Her head was low and her rapturous blue eyes remained strained and worry sick. Libson took a step after her but stopped. It hit him that he wouldn't be going home. He wouldn't see his friend again for a long time. He might not ever see her again.
Libson stopped and tried to see into his heart of hearts. Was he confident in his decision or was he fooling himself? He closed his eyes a moment. There was fear in his heart. Yes, and there was doubt too, but, there was also bravery. He felt the nobility he always admired in people of legends. He opened his eyes.
It was time to start on his journey. One foot took a step, the others followed. His stride was powerful and steady and his eyes shone with clarity. Each step reassured him further of the goodness of his decision and each step the memory of Eunoe's limitless blue eyes made him stronger.
0fr is a vibrant soul. His essence is so unmistakable I can sense where he is without turning my head. He's a little rambunctious for my taste but he has a good heart. Are we friends? In the lightest sense of the word, I suppose so.
