Snowmuncher

Special thanks to blacker_heart90 for translating this guide into German! You may view the German translation here:

In this game you have to guide Dieter the Polarchuck (a very hungry Polarchuck who just loves munching snow!) to the bottom of each level before the time runs out!

Use the arrow keys to move Dieter around - he can climb only one block at a time though. Press the space bar to munch those yummy snow blocks. As Dieter eats he becomes more and more bloated, so pick up the Bloat-B-Gone medicine to help him burp. If he gets to 100% bloated he will lose a life.

Watch out for the Snow Wurms - if you release them they will come after you (but leave their treasures unguarded!) Lastly, collect gems for extra points. Get munching!

At first, Snowmuncher can be a difficult game. But once you fully understand all aspects of the game and practice it frequently, getting the avatar or trophy score becomes a piece of cake! This guide will primarily guide you through getting the 5k points needed for the avatar. But I will also include some basic tips and suggestions for getting higher scores.

Part 1: Basic Information
The basic point of the game is to guide Dieter the Polarchuck to the bottom of the page, without him becoming bloated. You have to munch through the snow, collecting gems and avoiding Snow Wurms, until you reach the bottom. Every once in a while you will come across Hard Rock Snow, or black snow. Try to avoid these, because they require two bites to munch through them.

Bloat
Every time you munch through snow, Dieter the Polarchuck will become 5% bloated. If he reaches 100% bloated, you will lose a life. There is one way to "unbloat" Dieter the Polarchuck, and that is for him to drink Bloat-Be-Gone medicine. These can be found several times throughout the game. When Dieter the Polarchuck drinks this medicine, it reduces his bloat by 50%. So if he is at 90% bloat, he will be at 40% bloat after he drinks the medicine. If he is at 40% bloat and drinks it, he will go back to 0% bloat.

If you are ever nearing 100% bloat and know you will not be able to get to the Bloat-B-Gone in time, don't worry, there is a code! This code can only be used once per game, it will restore Dieter's bloat by 50%. Simply type in buuuurrrrrrrrp. That is one B, four U's, eight R's and one P. In case you don't feel like counting :K

Bonuses
There are several items in Snowmuncher that give various bonuses. There are:
Green Gems
Purple Gems
Clocks
Grapes
Eyeballs
Each of these bonuses appear throughout the game. Green Gems appear on each level and appear as often as Bloat-B-Gones. They are worth about 100 points, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. The Purple Gems are obtainable upon releasing a Snow Wurm and are worth about 200 points. After level 3, you will start seeing Clocks, Grapes and Eyeballs. When you munch through a clock, you receive about ten seconds of extra time. When you munch through grapes, you receive 50 bonus poines. And when you munch through eyeballs, you receive 20 bonus points. Refer to the chart below:

Snow Wurms
Snow Wurms first appear in the game on level two. They can be very dangerous so be careful! If one ever touches you, you will lose a life. But do not fear, you can kill these horrific Snow Wurms! Position yourself directly to the left or right of the trapped Snow Wurm (when it's still trapped in the snow) and two blocks down from it. Munch the block two below the Snow Wurm to release it. Then right away, munch the block directly below it. That will cause more blocks to fall ontop of the Snow Wurm, killing it.

Part 2: Avatar Game Walkthrough
It may take a bit of practice, but if you follow this guide, you should end up with the avatar! :D

Level 1
Level one is very easy because there are only three different colours of snow: green, blue and pink. There are not many Hard Rock blocks of snow, so they're easy to avoid. Collect all the gems! They're very easy to get on this level and if you miss them, that's missing out on about 100 points! So if you miss a gem, I would recommend restarting the game. In addition, do not lose any lives. If you lose a life, restart the game! It doesn't matter if you have a good score, restart! You'll thank me later :P

Always try to get around 700 points. If you get less, restart. Unless of course you have like 685, that's fine :P

Level 2
Level 2 is very similar to level 1, with one major difference. Snow Wurms are introduced into the game. Using the method of killing the Snow Wurms that I mentioned before, try to collect every purple gem in addition to all of the green gems. But keep this in mind when going for gems: getting the Bloat-B-Gone potion is far more important than gems. It's better to miss a gem and still have 3 lives, then get a gem and lose a life.

Try to get at least 1800 points. It's best if you get over 2000, but sometimes there aren't very many Snow Wurms in the level so you can't get as many purple gems. If you got below 1800 and lost a life, then restart! It's not worth continuing.

Level 3
In level 3, a new colour of snow is introduced, orange snow. This makes the level more difficult than the previous two. In addition, clocks, grapes and eyeballs are introduced as well! Collect those if you can, but do not risk a life for them! Especially try to collect grapes since they're worth more points. Unless you're slow at the game, you really don't need to collect clocks until past level 6 or so.

Bloat-B-Gone is essential to collect in this level. as previously mentioned, don't let Dieter get to 100% bloat just because you want to collect a gem/other bonuses. Always go for the Bloat-B-Gone first! Try to get at least 3000 points on this level. If you got below 2700 and lost a life, I would restart, but it's not necessary. If you got below 2700 but did not lose a life, just continue.

Level 4
Level 4 is the same as level 3 except the Bloat-B-Gones start to appear farther apart. This is when you want to stop taking time to go for bonuses and primarily focus on getting the Bloat-B-Gone and finishing the game in time. But still collect all bonuses if they're not out of your way!

Try to get at least anywhere from 4000 - 4500 points upon completing this level.

Level 5
Level 5 is the same as levels 3 and 4, you just have to travel a greater distance. Follow the same rules that I set down for level 4: collect any bonuses that are not out of your way, collecting the Bloat-B-Gone should be your first priority, and go as fast as you can! You don't want to be running out of time.

At the end of level 5, you should have over 5000 points. If you don't, it simply means you didn't collect enough bonuses. So just continue the game.

Level 6-7
In level 6, purple snow is added, therefore making the game more difficult. Dieter will become bloated faster, which is why you want to ignore all bonuses unless they're one or two blocks of snow away from the Bloat-B-Gone. Use buuuurrrrrrrrp if you must, and concentrate on finishing the level before time runs out.

Level 8 and Beyond
This is when the game gets extremely difficult. Light blue snow is added to the game and Hard Rock snow shows up far more often. At this point, I ignore all bonuses (except for clocks, because those are essential now that you have to travel a greater distance) unless they are directly next to the Bloat-B-Gone. You have to complete these levels very fast or else you will run out of time. In later levels, you will not finish unless you collect at least one or two clocks.
