Note: The following is a Work In Progress! Welcome… or something like it
The shores of Mystery Island have always been revered for their romantic sunsets, the burning crimson of neopia's sun and the honey glow of the skies… but who ever had stayed after the cool breath of night crept in? In honesty, had you ever waited for the stars to appear in the sky as if they were dust tossed by the wind? Waited for the blue to fade until it was so dark you could barely tell if from black? Of course not. The ferries closed long before that hour, the pleasant heat of the day would turn chill, and it would be an unpleasant treck through the jungle when you couldn't see your feet.
So why were you here now?
It was a good question, even if you were just asking yourself. The waves chased up the shore towards your feet, licking your ankles and reminding you of how cold the night could be as you wandered down the shore. At least you wouldn't trip on anything while on the groomed beaches, and the starlight was bright enough that you would be able to see any dangers ahead. The resorts couldn't be that far along the shore, you reassure yourself as you wander along, feet sinking into the sand. Mystery Island wasn't big enough to keep you occupied with walking for more than a few hours.
As time dragged on, you begin to get a little… concerned. The beach still stretched, and you had seen no others in all the time you were walking. Then, without warning, there was something bright in front of you
."Who do you think you are?" The Shoyru before you quirks a brow, pupiless blue eyes lit by shimmering wings of gold energy. A spade-shaped tail tip thumped the ground impatiently, twirling gold markings shimmering brightly. "Well?" The grouchy female asks, crossing her arms over her chest. "Who Do you think you are… and who are you?.".
Intimidated despite her small stature, you explain yourself, telling your tale and ending with a shrug.
."Oh. So you're stupid, but harmless." She says flatly. "Well, my name is Laykia. And I seem to be stuck helping you..

Supposedly those are the things who make me who I am. You can believe it, or not, but that's your decision.

Kaida

A quiet Navy-blue dragoyle seems to have appeared along with this outspoken shoyru. A small gold chain wraps around her tail, leading to… what seems to be a star. Unlike her owner, she seems to be quite retired… purring a little as she rubs against your leg. Laykia watches this and grumbles.
."Kaida is… my assistant. She runs messages for me and helps me with my work." Obviously, the creature is more to the shoyru, though, as she scoops the smaller dragon into her arms. "Helpful to have around. Less prone to backstabbing than shoyrus and such.

Story

An Easy Life

Life in neopia was easy. A sleek, intelligent looking striped shoyru sat on a park bench amongst her friends, chatting amicably and scruffling her Hornsby's mane. The summer sun smiled warmly, though no quite so much as it did on Mystery Island, the newly discovered land where her neohome was. Laykia glanced to a silver shoyru, smiling at him as she continued to chat with her female friends.
Oh, Mystery Isle is a lovely place to live" She offered, eyes flickering. "The natives are a little strange… big old coconuts with legs. But it's nice. I've seen some of those Kougra creatures around." The tidbit of information on the new spiecies was huge. All turned to ask questions, and she happily obliged their curiousity. "They're from Mystery Island, you know. A bit on the wild side, but then, they haven't been in decent homes yet. I suppose with a lot of training and a few books they couldn't be that bad." Smiling at the aptness of her timing, she hopped off the seat. "Well, everyone, it looks like Korruu and Arc are ready to go. Kanni, dear, would you like to come over later this week?" The handsome male nodded slightly, giving her a smile of his own
Of course, Laykia. Perhaps we can go on a Kougra Hunt together… just to see what we can see." His voice was soft as he said it, waving as she turned to leave.
Kanni was one heck of a catch, she thought to herself as she left, knowing the look of envy that all her friends would be giving her.

Arc and Korruu had picked up a number of items, the two younger pets still enamoured with yoyos and plushies… as well as sweets, cookies and the colourful books that lay in the bookshop. One faerie quest item had been tossed into the bag, the only thing on their list that the little ones had retrieved.
Arc! Korruu! You were supposed to pick up Vegan cheese! Not to mention Milk, a pack of Achify, and some fruits. Did you spend all the money on Junk?" Turning back into a big sister, she peered down at the shorter duo. They blinked nervously and offered a few points each to her. "I guess we can see what that'll get us. Hurry now, before the next ferrie leaves!

Don't worry. The transfer will barely take a second… and I'll have your right back out in a jiff, okay?" It sounded like a bad idea, but Laykia did want to see her new home, with more than one floor, and a garden out front. Vicats was quite sure of the entire thing, and because her owner asked her, The striped shoyru agreed. "I'll move all your stuff around for you." The girl added as they stepped into the pound.
Alright, Mom. You're sure this will work?" The concrete floor was cold, and it smelled like disinfectant and fear. "Because… I don't like it in here." Her shiny, polished scales were dull under the plain fluorescent bulbs. It had been so long since she was here last, an infant in the infirmary where Vicats had scooped her up… years. Swallowing the aching memory, she hopped on to the counter and glanced up at Doctor Death.
… Abandoning, Miss… Vicats? What a shame." The techo glanced through the application boredly, shooting a horrendous look at the human between flips. Laykia spoke up immediately, hands planted firmly on her hips.
She's not leaving me here!" she barked indignantly, brow wrinkled as she looked straight in the eye of the human-sized pet. "We're doing a transfer."
Mmh." The techo grunted, dropping a clipboard beside the small-framed shoyru. Sign there, Miss Vicats… Very good. And there… Lovely, and there… don't forget that one, thank you, and if you are quite sure, sign there as well." As soon as the last signature was scribbled down, he scooped her up and dropped her into the cage nearest the door. It smelled funny, like a mix of cheese, feet and sour cream… a huge skeith sat towards the back, sneering at her as she hopped to the door.
So, a newbie to the…" He began, shoving the mass of his weight upwards and taking one thudding step forwards.
I'm not here for long" She spat back nervously.
Owner say she was transfer'n you, huh?" The smirk on his face said it all… she was stuck here.
… She's coming." Wishing that the tremble wasn't as evident in her voice, she pressed her forehead to the bars of the cage.
Mine said she was doing the same… almost a year ago, now" He offered helpfully, lumbering forwards a few more steps
Go away." The shoyru shot him a glance that would make Doctor Death wither, snorting.
Aww, You mad at me for taking so long Kia?" Vicat's smooth voice, sounded shortly before the joyous click of the door opening. "I got a little held up talking with the help Uni about Fostering… you were safe, though. In my name again." Kia laughed as she hopped into her owners arms, glaring at the smelly skeith in his cage. She was right. Nothing could ruin her perfect life.
