It was a landscape like you had never seen before; the softly rolling hills, alight with the glimmer of thousands upon thousands of strange golden trees; the coral-tinted dome of golden-cream skies, pearled clouds lulling along with the breeze but leaving no shadows; the ambient light, bright and warm, which seemed to shine from everything and nothing at once. It was a fairy-land, a gold-spun mirage; the dream world lay before you.

The trees shifted and hummed softly in unison, their shimmering bark ethereal in texture and appearance. At first, they had looked like sculptures; Tall gold trees with twirling, dancing branches, reaching leafless to the sky before drizzling back towards the earth at their tips, with brilliant coloured charms hanging off of their string-like twigs. All had the same knot on their trunks, with a pane of reflective material that looked like old glass, uneven and many-coloured. And yet, when you reached to touch them, your hand slid through, with only a tingling of rough bark and warm wood on your fingertips, as if they were simply a memory of what was there. Walking in reverent silence, you began to realise that each tree, beyond those few similarities, was unique. That one was short, but bright and straight, with unicorns and puppies swaying as its charms as you pass; the one beside it would be taller if it weren't so bent and gnarled, bark faded and grey, with nothing left but shards to tip its branches, no noise or movement from it. It seemed to out of place in the otherwise bright forest, but looking farther along, you could see more of them, scattered amongst the other trees with an unusual frequency. They were unsettling things, these faded husks, less there than the other trees. Others bowed, some shared a shattered charm or two, but these trees… their absolute misery was palatable.

Distracted as you were, it came as a mighty shock when a flash of purple streaked between you and the tree, a soft current of air proving the solidity of the falling object, even before it collided with your chest. Jumping back, you found yourself staring into large, bright blue eyes, tiny claws digging into your chest through your shirt. Gold markings made the creature's eyes seem even wider, matching her surroundings better than the smooth purple skin that covered the rest of her face and body. Despite her entry, she didn't seem hostile, and after inspecting your face for a moment her long ears perked, a soft churr sounding.
