Hiya!, I created this after my Daddy redlinepichu lost his hard earned neopoints to a nasty scam.
~Scams and tricks to be aware of~
1: Secretword Scams:
Several people are trying to trick you into giving them your secretword, claiming to have "Neopoint Generators" or to have found a bug in the Neopets system, just put in your secretword and you'll get something.
These are ALL tricks. Never give your secretword to anyone, if you do, you are just handing them your account on a silver platter and they can do anything they please with it.
2: Shop Scams:
Maybe you've heard from a borad that a user can give you a secret to earn you points just by buying an over priced item. Possibly also a contest entry, which isn't possible.
Do NOT do this, there are not any secrets to making points. Besides playing games and reselling items. If you see this report it immediately to TNT.
3: Chain Letters:
Neopets will not ask you to pass any messages on to anyone else. Neopets will not be rewarding you with Paintbrushes, Neopoints or anything else. If you receive any such Neomail, simply delete it.
4: Email Scams:
The latest trick is to try to make you change your email address to win a prize, or to change your secretword to something simple such as 'orange'. Do not do this, if you do, that person will be able to get your secretword and gain entry to your account. Remember, no Neopets staff will EVER ask for your secretword. If you receive any such messages, please report them using this form. Include a copy of the message if you can.
5: Fake Staff:
Though I havn't seen this recently., But some users may claim they are members of the Neopets staff and ask for your secretword, through Neomail. Remember, no member of the staff will contact you via neoamil, with the exception to theneopetsteam. No member of the TNT staff will EVER ask for that. If you recieve a message asking for that, report the message/account.
6: Fake Login Pages/Items:
Some people have been putting fake items into their shop. When you click on the item and press 'yes' you wish to buy, you get re-directed to a page that appears to be a Neopets login screen.
If you look closely at the Url it is not actually a Neopets site, but a scam to try to get your secretword.
7: Instant Messenger scams:
This a recent one, a user may contact you via AIM or MSN messengers saying that if you don't pay them a large sum of neopoints, that they'll freeze your account. Well that's not possible, only theneopetsteam can freeze peoples accounts. Besides the site will always be free!
~Other things to watch out for~
1: Neositting Scams:
Many People claim they can watch your pets while you are away on Vacation. They ask for your secretword and can easily change it and you'll lose your account. You can put your pets into the Neolodge and they will be cared for there. While you are away they'll be fed, played with, groomed during there stay. Plus you keep your account!
2: NeoDrive URL Scam:
Don't send anyone your Neodrive URL, if you do then you are giving them your secretword!
3: Fake Competitions:
If someone is having a competition, then they are not endorsed by the Neopets staff and they do not need your secretword to send you your prizes.
4: Virus Tricksters:
Some very nasty people are posting links to viruses on the Neopets site. They claim it is a link to a Neohelper program, Neopoints.exe or a Scorchy Slots program. It is not. It is a virus that can seriously damage your computer.
5: Trading not via the Trading Post:
Do not trade with anyone unless you are using the Island Trading Post. If you trade with anybody without using this then it is at your own risk and you could lose your items or Neopoints.
6: Email Donation Scam:
This is a recent one, where you may recieve an email asking for monetary donations for Neopets.
This is a fraud, Neopets will NEVER ask for donations from it's players.
7: User verfication scam:
This is a new scam, where you may get an email asking to verify your username, secretword, ect.
This is untrue, Neopets will never ask for your secretword or any of your account information.
If you receive any such emails, please report them here including the header information of the sender where possible.
You're probably thinking "AHHHH! Lanivia I lost everything, how can I earn back what I lost?
~How to deal with being scammed~
1: Report the user who stole your item or neopoints or even if they asked for your secretword. You can report the offense by using the form here
2: Now, how to earn back what you lost. My best advice is to game ALOT, try games like Skies Over Meridell, Carnival of Terror
, Turmac Roll ,Crisis Courier , Hasee Bounce, The Search for Princess Lunara ,etc. Also try the featured game it gives you DOUBLE neopoints, access it by clicking here.
Don't worry if you're not very good at these games. Practice and you'll be on your way to recovery in no time.
If you have have any questions feel free to neomail redlinepichu. Bye now. :D
