.01 basic identity & story description

name Lagartho
nickname Artho
gender Male
companion Picca, Faerie Ukali

likes Painting, being alone, making candles, darkness
dislikes Being mistaken for a girl, interactions with others, daytime
summary Artho is a painter, but not by choice. Though he sometimes enjoys painting, he must do it regardless because of his visions. Artho paints the future from the visions he sees, and avoiding doing so doesn't help.
The story starts off pretty vague; you are thrust into Artho's life without knowing too much about him, other than knowing he's been hurt somehow before. As the story unfolds, glimpses of his past allow you to grasp why he has such a short fuse.

.02 character particularities (physical / psychological)

physical
Artho has a lizard-like body, with a long tail and short, stunted legs. His skin is smooth and appears as a subtle gradient, starting as a light teal near his head and ending as a bright blue near his tail. Specks of yellows and light greens are painted throughout his body, with the heaviest clusters around his neck, eyes, mouth, nose, tail and paws. He has short, wild and frizzy hair that has lightened from spending so much time in his caverns. Artho's eyes are a crystal blue.

psychological
Lagartho is the epitome of what you would call a temperamental artist. And this is precisely why he's only managed to hang on to one last friendship. He tends to push others away, fearful of having to take that risk of letting someone get close. He's been down that road before. Artho is often blunt, but oblivious to how his words will affect those they are directed towards. He doesn't intentionally attempt to harm others, though that's usually what becomes of any friendship started with him.
His one and only friend as of late is Picca, a quirky young Ukali, which oddly enough explains why he's Artho's friend. Picca seems thick-skinned, but in reality, Artho's insults and snide comments just don't process in her mind; sarcasm just doesn't compute.
If anything, they share one thing in common: creativity. Somehow, despite their immense differences, this is the characteristic that seems tailor-made for them. If there is such a thing as some higher being, this would be proof; they were destined to meet, it was fate that they should befriend each other. Her ideas compliment his painting skills in such a way that it seems his art couldn't take form without her. He, of course, denies that there's even a case for that.

.03 color chart & first design

Rough designs for Artho, I definitely want to tie in some kind of starry spots, but I'm not too sure about the gradient. Might have to find a different way to work that in :c

.04 story

Prologue
(write after the story is nearly completed)~

introduction
Shoo, get outta here. It's not finished yet! *groan* Do you not know how to knock? ... Never mind. Look, I know you're eager to see my progress, but an artist isn't supposed to reveal his masterpiece until the art is finished. NOW SHOO!
Picca tip-toes back to the entrance to take peek between one of the holes. This network of caves used to be an ancient underwater cavern, so the sediment is heavily eroded near the mouth, which sits near a creek. Inside it is damp and dimly lit. Candles of various shapes strewn across the floor. The light flickers and shadows dance along the bends and curves in the cave. Near the Eastern wall, Artho is sitting on a raised portion of the floor. Staring blankly at the wall, Artho is unaware of her presence, naturally. He's back in the "zone", or rather, zoned-out is a better way to describe it. But Picca continues to watch regardless, intrigued, knowing he'll begin to paint at any moment.

chapter 1
Artho blinks as the world around him comes back into focus; blurs of the craggy cave rock and the bright hues painted on them begin to form a solid image. Confusion flushes his face as he realized it happened again. He can't remember painting what lays before him, though he knows it couldn't have been anyone else who did it.
Artho wasn't born with this ability, and he wouldn't want to be if he was given the choice. Then why does this happen? He abhors losing control over his own body. It's unnatural, a curse.
But of course, Picca doesn't see it that way. "It's a gift, Artho! They have chosen you!
What does she mean?
