Guinea pigs have extremely sensitive backs. Running balls are not the right shape for a guinea's back. They can easily break their backs in exercise balls. Also, they can hurt their feet by running on the vents too much. Exercise balls get hot too quickly, and it is easy for a guinea pig to over-heat in an exercise ball.

That is why we need your help to spread the word. If we don't spread the word to uneducated owners, many guinea pig lives will be lost, and many other guineas will be injured.

I know that you've probably talked to your veterinarian about the Critter Run, but not all veterinarians agree with this. Guinea pig spines do not bend in different directions well. Exercise balls are not in the shape of their spine. They can eventually get hurt by these if they run in them too much. Their spine can bend the wrong way in these, and cause deformation and pain. I know the Hamster Derby doesn't happen often, but your Critter Run encourages people to use exercise balls. Plus, even though exercise balls are ventilated, it can still get too hot in these, and guinea pigs easily over-heat.

Also, since the guinea pigs will be together, if someone unknowingly brings in a sick guinea pig, disease can easily spread from pig to pig. Guinea pigs can easily catch mange mites, upper respiratory infections, and more from contact with infected guinea pigs. Often, symptoms do not show for days, or even months, depending on the disease. They will be in exercise balls, but disease can still spread easily, especially upper respiratory infections, since there are vents in the exercise balls.
