Prologue- Dreams
Waking up was always the hardest part of the morning.
It was not that Kracy preferred sleep in or lived with a disastrous life, but rather the fact that she could hardly escape from the depths of her nightmares. Sometimes they started in the middle of a park where birds chirped to the bright blue tone of the sky or a science lab where the sounds of computers buzzed, but no matter what they would somehow end up with a reflection of her seemingly dead in a sorrowful rain street. Neither happy thoughts nor angry emotions would cease to end the dreams and they always haunted her, staining her existence.
The question was why. She had a great family, a trustworthy friend, and a comfortable home. What was there to be scared of in her pleasant life?
Chapter 1- The Dancing Wind
Confidence, confidence, Kracy muttered, while her eyes drifted across the plain of her home with the wind whirled across its party floor. Nervousness was definitely a word of nonsense.
Starting from the night before, a new conflict arose in her heart. From the time when the horizon sets to midnight, she and Maza danced near the lake in the celebration of summer after the rough months before. It was not the first time the two of them held a close bond because by now they knew each other front and backwards. They were the best of friends and the only friends they could have in the desolate countryside of Hamster. This time was different though, and she could feel a new bond between them that passed the borderlines of friendship. She knocked over a loft of grass and fell into the swaying pasture below. What could she even be thinking, more than friends, never?
Can I ever even think straight? she whispered. At the same time, everything started to cover in darkness. The night once again turned black, losing its peel of blue. She thought of what to do one last time as her eyes adjusted to the darkness.
Bonded forever, Kracy whispered, tracing the friendship bracelet on her right hand. Then she ran. She knew what to do and let the night guide her with its shimmering stars in the pitch-black sky.
--
Like a drum beating slightly and fast, rain soon showered down from above, becoming one with her movements. Yet Kracy kept running towards the mountains to one place she knew for quite a long time. Maza called it their second home, a place secluded by time and the workings of human society. Again and again she can remember them returning there sometimes to go on expeditions when the crickets creaked and other times to tell scary stories that would frighten even the most courageous wolves listening from afar. Together. It was easy to imagine even at the moment Maza cheering her on from right behind her, telling her they must complete a mission and a purpose only done by them. Nothing mattered, even the fact that they were the only two young people living in the middle of nowhere.
Soon water started to shine through the grass and she could hear the melody of rain dripping across the ground slashing its roots. Summer truly was the best time for their secret adventures. The grass was high, it was never too cold compared to the solid ground, and it felt as one would never need to return to the chores of home. Moreover, the plains were silent, and always seemed wise to her, they stood as the ancient foundations upon the bare soil, her second parents in fact. After, her eyes finally adjusted to the darkness, it only took seconds to find the path Maza marked towards her destination. In order to not lose their find of the lake, they marked it with a splattering of rocks as it still needed to be kept secret from the rest of the world. Every time they went together Maza would try to be the fastest one there, but to his reluctance Kracy stayed as the victor. She smiled at her memories, and wondered if she told him her thoughts if they would ever return to their relationship now. Her worst nightmare centered on being left alone in the blistering, dry, sun of the yellow-tanned pasture then being in the cold with Maza.
The last presence of daytime faded with the signs of clouds disappearing among the star's little ballet show and at last she remained close to her destination, only minutes. She knew Maza would be there as he promised after their dance to come celebrate in a second night of celebration. Her hands and knees started to jerk, rocking against the ground. Crickets murmured. Prairie dogs chattered. Everything turned tense and silent. Sure enough, someone sat in the distance, waiting for a far away visitor. It was time to rise about her sense of insecurity and tell the truth.
Chapter 2- Memories washed away
Oh, there you are, I have been waiting for you. Maza clapped his hands. He looked like his normal self, dressed in rouged clothes, half-torn at the sides. In the back, he tied his long blond hair with a ribbon and his eyes shone a bright red color. His characteristics truly reflected his typical attire, but to Kracy something felt different, off. Something for certain did not seem right.
Hey Kracy, is something wrong because your expression seems a little confused? Are you all right? he asked from the edge of his rock seat. His concern pained me as it seemed so believable, but somehow his eyes lied to her. She thought the problem mostly problem came from her own mind. It usually was herself after all.
Oh yes! I totally am fine! For sure lets rock out tonight! Kracy tried to give him a reassuring smile, and stop his feelings of doubt that only created more problems. Ever since she could remember, she remained the troublemaker of my family of three. Kracy saw no harm in teasing the animals or staying up past my bedtime because fear rarely took over my desires and missions. In fact, among, the farm animals, she played the role as the female conquistador, a daring individual that was scared of nothing, even the many-legged spiders. However, as of recently, Kracy tried to change this nature, because she believed that becoming wild could lead to the images of the nightmares in my dreams. Suddenly, his hand, outlined by the rippling lights of the river shocked her back to reality.
Kracy swallowed and tried to move to his beat, but everything seemed to be distracting her. The rosemary plants smelled too good and tried to lure her their premises. The stars shined to bright in the sky, blinding her vision. The rain fell too hard on the slightly cold ground, bouncing each time in her ears as it reached the floor. Then, in the distance, suddenly something moved and to her right a figure moved gracefully in the shadows. The dark form lurked from the across the meadows, camouflaging into the colors of the night with its silent movements. Kracy told herself to calm down. Her dreams just happened to be figments of her imagination, not real events. Did she not just tell herself to stop being worried? Instead, Kracy collapsed onto the ground, suddenly tired and dizzy.
Are you ok? Kracy, if you keep on falling and being out of tune, we should head back to my house or yours.
Kracy sighed, looking at the distance and her fallen figure. Alright. Let's go back. I think the rain is not helping us with our celebration. As she left, she swore she could hear the steps of a person behind her. Similar footsteps that she once heard before.
--
As the two of them walked closer, the sky became ever more sullen as her summer tears started to pour more towards the ground. She sang a melody of grief that caused even the glittering pasture to mourn and shine like glass alight by the stars. Yet despite the beauty surrounding her, Kracy suffered more and more by each tiring step she took. She pressed her figure against Maza, letting his chilled body support her. It focused the part of her mind that concentrated on the present rather than the unreal, like a cup of warm coffee keeping one awake from their dreams.
Then out of the blue, Maza asserted you know, we sure have known each other for quite a long time His eyes opened slightly. For some reason, his body trembled with nervousness as they drew closer to closer to her abode.
Of course, why are you saying something like this now, she questioned and gave his eyes a puzzling look. Maza did not operate like the type of person that acted in a straightforward, practical manner.
It is nothing, no need to worry. He grinned, moving Kracy's body a little more close to prevent her from the fall. They smiled pleasantly, both trying to reassure each other from doubts. Still, Kracy wondered what made him so insecure all of a sudden as he usually turned out be courageous and strong-hearted in life. She thought these appearances of such feelings in his facial expression just rose from her own crazy mind, but she knew that her reasoning did not seem wrong no longer. Then the world fell apart. Everything except her started to disappear and the world began shaking. The glittering meadows lost its presence of prior vitality, the crickets stopped chattering, and the animals stopped scampering around in search of food. After a few minutes, Kracy, Maza, and the solid cold earth stayed as every other remain of life fled or dissolved into the underground.
We will see each other again, Maza smiled sympathetically and then finally disspaeared himself. As the remains of him living left, she lost more and more hope. There was no point in moving on and her memories felt like fire, scorching her from the inside out. Before her nightmares became real, she saw one last person, the silent lurker watching from before. The person inched nearer and nearer to her until their breathing worked in unison, but something strange appeared on this individual. The person resembled an older version of herself with the same eyes, same hair, and even the same general figure.
See you soon Kracy Teloin, she hissed. Then everything faded into the never-ending abyss of Kracy's mind.
Chapter 3- Sparkling Lights
It started in a blank room
Snow fell down on the sides of the frosted window, imprinting crystal icicles on the edges. The brazing cold made the afternoon light a little sharp, as it radiated through the ice diamonds. In fact, the sky glittered aglow, cut by the presence of the blizzard descending and the sparkling lights. The rooms itself hide in comparison to nature's fury outside since it's lifeless nature composed of something of an ordinary fashion with gray walls and a stiff cold floor. All mundane. In the tight quarters, two people sat discussing in a quiet manner as if something of the utmost importance was urgent. One from far away could feel their unease in their shivering voices and shuddering breaths. Still, their faces remained hidden by some unknown black veil. A black veil that hid their identities.
Are you sure you want to do this. It could be risky, the younger of the two questioned. His voice and shadow gave the appearance of someone in there 20's, a young adult graduating from the tedious teenage years.
Of course! There is the time, the technology, and the need to do this. Our dream can finally come true, the fellow's female companion whispered. A bouncing amount of emotions took place in her with her swaying motions displaying youthfulness, nervousness and happiness all at once. Something was up.She put her arm around the other, as if she tried to comfort him from an unknown fear.
The restrictions..
Nonsense, it will be our secret and stay our secret. Her hands gestured towards the window that reflected the blue lights outside. For a sparring moment, one could feel the temporary relaxation between the two partners, but soon as it came it faded as their faces slowly became revealed. Everything became solid white once again.
When Kracy awoke from this mysterious dream, she found herself in a strange room. A bright pink color filled its walls and furniture that seemed fit for a newborn or young girl who happily still was enjoying her childhood instead of Kracy herself. One window rested upon the wall to her right surrounded by red roses. By the time she woke up, this window let the sun halfway across the sky shine through the enclosed surroundings, bringing a light to the her unknown circumstances. She struggled to her feet, having to pry herself from the florid covers, but when she first looked out the window she thought it must have been unreal, another dream. Below, flying towers covered the ground and skyrocketed to the heavens. In the mist of the giants, bizarre moving boxes raced between the buildings, reflecting different designs from glowing fire to the blazing sun in sky with its flamed edges. Metal posts glittered in the prairie of lights with their rainbow of colors and flying signs sparkled complex images advertising outlandish products. Without warning, Kracy felt dizzy standing and knelt to the floor. Was she dead and in an everlasting city? Could Maza be close? The thoughts raced across her mind, bringing an outburst of many emotions, but then a knocking came from outside.
I am coming in. I see your finally awake, a voice muttered. When the person came in, time stopped and everything stood at a standstill, frozen by the mechanics of time. Something about him seemed like he stood as part of a distant memory or someone from the past. About a year older, the adolescent dressed in a black suit with buttons holding his shirt together and jeans with only one full pant leg. Despite his muddled appearance, one thing left Kracy silent and that was his emerald eyes that seemed to sparkle with knowledge and thin diamonds. They seemed to stare right through her inner being, her soul.
Well do you want food or not? You eat right? He pointed towards his hands that carried a platter of odd substances , including a bowl of strings and orange clutter.
Um, do I know you? I think you are familiar, Kracy questioned in an effort to reveal his strange familiarity. He ignored her queries, put the platter on a miniature rose-colored table, and left the room. It seemed as things could not become stranger, but then another person ran into the room, dragging the teenager with her. This woman also seemed strangely familiar as from a hidden past, but then in an instance Kracy realized who she was. Upon her discovery, she first thought it could not be true and put it as something completely wrong. The young lady looked like the older copy of herself, the last person to appear before everything became nothing. Kracy could not believe what was happening and almost screamed in her nervousness until her older duplicate hugged her with ferocity
I missed you so much kracy. I thought you would never come back. She smiled and looked at her reflection. Kracy felt lost for words and exhausted from the scorching confusion.
Who are you and what is happening?! Kracy accused, her jaw tight.
I am your older sister Narthina and welcome back from your coma.
