Chaper I

This story is going to be rewritten soon.

About three hundred and fifty years ago, the countries of Strinston, Hayan Bay, and Remnic sought to expand. Across an expanse of water was a large piece of land; much larger than their three countries combined. Each of these countries wished to claim the massive piece of land for themselves, rather than split it up. You see, the land was much more livable than their own countries, with rolling hills, vast mountains, lush forests, and watery marshes. There were many supplies including plenty of wood, stone, and places to grow crops. Yes, it was viewed as the perfect place for a new country. The problem was, the three kingdoms were all rivals, and before too much longer, pure war broke out.

All three kingdoms were the powerhouses back on the mainland, and each of them had their own military forces. Although, there was one 'secret weapon' that the countries had... sorcerers. These powerful magicians were a force to be reckoned with, as they had the ability to bend the logical and use forces of nature for their own gain. Some could call up a mighty galestorm, toppling the thickest trees. Others could summon lightning, blasting their way through mountain sides and buildings. It was a highly dangerous art, but one that had been perfected and utilized to its full extent.

In a time of chaos, clarity can prevail, though. Strinston and Hayan Bay, realizing that they could drive both countries into the ground, joined together as one. Equal in military forces, they were well matched against each other... but together, they were the most powerful military of the land. They planned to attack Remnic, forcing it out once and for all, and claiming this new land for their own. A new country, a combination of their two, and one of the most powerful the world has ever seen. A name was decided upon, and it was New Strinston. The problem was, they wanted to get the third country out while losing as few dragons as possible. So they formed a plan.

- Chapter II -

Chaper II

The plan was to create a magical device that they could use without much damage to themselves. Magical devices were common, as they could do two things. They could create power, and they could amplify power. The new alliance wanted this contrivance to do both, though. It would be the single most deadly thing they had ever seen, but it was decided that it was necessary if they were to win.

After weeks of slaving over the artifice, a group of sorcerers unveiled it. A single, cyan orb, glowing gently and pulsing with power. With it, they could use the strongest of all natural elements to their fullest of power to defeat their enemy. Once it was done, it was time to give said enemy a taste of it.

A small camp of Remnic was targeted, and flood waters were used to wash it and its occupants away. It was a heavy blow to the other side, but something unexpected happened. Once the waters were unleashed, they could not be stopped. A large rush of water raged into their own camps, and took many of their own numbers. Startled by this, New Strinston had their eyes opened to the power of this instrument that they had just created.

- Chapter III -

Chaper III

The leaders of New Strinston, known simply as the Council, talked for days about what to do following this catastrophic accident. It was finally decided that the contrivance was too powerful, and it could not be used again for the safety of their new country and for others. So a building was constructed to house the orb, and it would later become a shrine to honor those who perished in the fighting, and as a reminder of the power that magic has. The orb was placed in a room protected by a powerful barrier so that the citizens would not even know it was there, and thus remain hidden away.

Then, too weary to use magic again, New Strinston gathered their forces and, in one last epic battle, they drove Remnic from the lands, once and for all securing the new land for New Strinston. The kingdom was formed, and at the heart sat a grand city.

185 years of peace reigned, and the people flourished, spreading across the vast land. Towns and cities seemed to spring up almost overnight, and land was cultivated to bring forth new and exotic foods and resources. Still in the middle, though, stood the original city, the capitol Dragon's Nest. It had grown to be quite magnificent, with many tall buildings and cobbled streets. One small building remained out in a field of golden flowers, though, a silent and rather foreboding place. Few went to the shrine anymore, for the war was long past and magic had rather faded from common use. Because of this, the building was in disrepair and, unknown to the Council, the barrier around the orb had failed.

- Chapter IV -

Chaper IV

Young dragons often dared each other to go into the spooky building, though few ever ventured inside. One day, though, a particularly bold young boy boasted that he could go to the inner chambers. Encouraged by his friends, he went inside the eerie place. Once inside, he found that the place was really quite interesting, and began to wander around, exploring and pretending he was uncovering some lost city. His games ended, though, when he went into a room that, a moment ago, hadn't seemed to be there.

Inside, upon a pedestal, sat a strange, glowing orb. It seemed to pulse with its own light, and it drew the boy to it like a magnet. He picked it up without trouble and, proud of his find, went to show it off to his friends. They were incredibly impressed by this find, and, as young dragons will, they started tossing the orb around, amused by the fact that it seemed to weigh less than air, for when thrown it floated down like a feather.

A passing elder spotted them playing in the field, and at first was amused. However, when she spotted the thing they were playing with, her amusement turned to alarm. She demanded to see the orb, and then, scolding the boys for playing with something they should not, went immediately to see the Council. Because magic was not commonly practiced anymore, many of the devices used had faded from memory, including this particular one. As the elder flew to the Council's building, she had no idea exactly what power she held in her claws.

- Chapter V -

Chaper V

When presented with the artifact, the Council immediately grew interested. They thanked the elder, and sent her on her way. After that, they set about inspecting the devise. Though the use of magic was not common in New Strinston any longer, the Council made it a point to have at least two members on the Council be sorcerers and sorceresses, and they also had at least four members of lower standing on staff who could use magic. They called in all of these to try and figure out what power this sphere had, though they already had their suspicions.

After an hour of work and pouring over countless books, there was no doubt. This thing was the weapon the founders had used to defeat Remnic. This finding was met with a mixture of fear and excitement, and because of this an argument broke out over what to do with the thing. Many of the Council wanted to destroy it, rid the world of its power once and for all, and finish what the first Council should have done. Others thought that they should keep it, but hide it like before. Nevertheless, those who wished to destroy it won out in the end... until an old sorcerer, who's word was highly revered, said a simple phrase. He rarely spoke, but when he did, everyone listened. At this moment, all he said was: It may be needed.

A long moment of silence followed this statement, the Council members deep in thought. In the end, though, they decided that this wisdom was true, so they decided to keep it, but hide it away. Except, it was very hard to decide how to do this. Under lock and key, the location could be discovered. Then it was just a quick move for enemies to move in and take it. They were unsure how long they could keep the existence of the device quiet, but they were certain it wouldn't be long. Now that it had been discovered, the word was likely to travel.

Over the past decade, Remnis, their old enemy, had been stirring up trouble once more. They still wished to take the New Strinston land, but had thus far not figured out how to do that. Ah, but if they got a hold of the artifact...

- Chapter VI -

Chaper VI

More debating followed, but in the end an interesting idea was voiced, and it was chosen as their course. The artifact, using magic, would be split into three. Divided, it could not be used, and thus was safe. But, should the thing be needed once again, it could be conjoined once more. Though, the issue stood as to how to protect it. Dividing it would do not good if an enemy, like Remnic, wishing them harm got all three. This brought about more arguing, until one of them suggested doing the same to a dragon. One dragon split into three, like the artifact, could keep on the move, carrying the piece with them. If we can divide this piece, we can divide a dragon, right? When asked about it, another sorcerer agreed that it could be done. However, then came the problem of finding a dragon to split. No one felt like volunteering, because it would be an incredibly long and dangerous task.

Why not just choose three different dragons for this course? Well, simply put, they needed something to bind the artifact to, and this would not be easy. Magic seemed to have a mind of its own, and usually liked to bind to other magical things. So, by splitting a single dragon in three, they made that dragon similar to the artifact, and more inviting for binding.

It was then that a young council member, a female, stepped forward. I have an egg that I laid but a few nights ago. When it hatches, my child can be the one to be split. It will be young and small, and we could also train it for the job. Everyone in the council agreed with this course of action. Now all they had to do was wait for the egg to hatch. When inspected, the egg proved to be a simple thing, just dark chocolaty brown. The mother and father were nothing special themselves, having no amazing strength, nor any other skill that would be needed. It was then suggested that the egg, while the baby was forming, be tampered with using magic. They could alter the baby while it grew, and thus create the ideal dragon for the job.

- Chapter VII -

Chaper VII

Tamper they did, applying magic daily to the egg to give the baby dragon certain skills. They made it stronger, faster, and more intelligent than it would have been. They had no idea what this would do to the appearance of the dragon, or even if it would have any effect at all. Something told the sorcerer doing the magic, though, that this baby would be an interesting dragon indeed.

The waiting finally did pay off, though, and a young male dragon was born. When he hatched, they knew that the magic had altered his appearance, but in a spectacular way. Most of the dragons of this race were darker colors with equally dark markings. Very few of them had any great amount of said markings, and even fewer had ones that were anything great to look at. Nevertheless, this hatchling looked very different from the rest of them. A chocolate brown color covered the majority of his body, while a crisp white color prevailed on his stomach and chest. The white color continued on markings, mixed with a startling addition of teal.

His mother looked lovingly at her child, though for an instant had a look on her face that suggested that she was having second thoughts. When asked if she was sure, she hesitated, but then nodded. So the baby, yet unnamed, was taken into another room, where he would be split. His mother hovered close, watching anxiously. Then, after two hours of intense magic, not one, but three baby hatchlings stood in front of them. Each of them had their own unique markings, but only two had wings. When his, no their, mother asked about this, the sorcerer shrugged and said, Apparently, there were only two wing genes, not three. Those genes went to two of the babies, while the third is left without.

- Chapter VIII -

Chaper VIII

All the while, the artifact had been split into the three different contrivances, all of which would one day be worn by the three dragons. One was in the shape of a tail ring, and had three cyan orbs embedded inside. Another was a plate, also with three orbs. The final one was a strange looking object. It was an orb with three prongs jutting off of it, all four of the pieces seeming to hover there. They were stored in three separate places, heavily guarded in secrecy, until the day the young dragons would take them.

A name was decided for all three of them, one that would be come their first names to identify them as one person. Kolvyr, meaning 'Of Three' in an ancient language, fit perfectly. They were all given second names, though, when they developed skills and personalities. The first dragon, without wings and with curling ram horns, was given the name of Turas, meaning Swift. When together, his name generally means 'The Swift One of Three'. The second dragon, the largest of the three with spiraling horns, was given the name of Orthiar, meaning Powerful. When together, his name generally means 'The Powerful One of Three'. The third dragon with straight horns was named Sciathan, meaning High Flight. His name generally means 'The High Flying One of Three'.

They began to train in many ways, though specifically in fighting. They were told early on what their purpose in life was, and that they were one dragon split into three existences. They began to refer to themselves as the 'Three Parts of a Whole', and the title seemed to stick.

Though they hadn't known at the time of their split, the divide did more than alter their appearances. Their personalities seemed to split as well, along with their emotional capabilities. It became apparent as the young dragons grew that some emotions were not felt. That is, one of the Kolvyrs could feel something, while the other two were incapable of that emotion. For instance, Sciathan had a high sense of humor, while Turas seemed most immune to even the funniest of jokes. It was a strange side effect of this split, but one that was, fortunately, not life-threatening.

Finally, fifteen years later, the artifacts were retrieved and attached to them using powerful magic. They could not be safely removed unless by magic once more, though the fatal flaw was that they could be taken by force. Still, the Kolvyrs knew that they had to avoid this at all costs. Finally, the day for them to start their duty came. They were to separate into three different directions. Kolvyr Turas, the wingless dragon with ram horns, was to go to the north. Kolvyr Orthiar, the dragon with spiral horns and the largest in size, was to go to the east. Kolvyr Sciathan, the kindest with straight horns, was to go to the west. Their instructions were to keep moving, and to never to come together until the artifact was needed once more.

The three moved off, but they still have contact with each other and the Council thanks to Eander, a small little flying creature that was created for the purpose. If ever they get injured, they just send Eander for help, and he, using faint magic that was given to him, can transport a doctor to the needs of the Kolvyrs. About a hundred years have passed, and still the need for the artifact has not arisen. But how long can that last...?

- Chapter IX -

Chaper IX - Years pass

The three Kolvyrs are a hundred and fifty years old now. Immortal for their cause, they have wandered the land for all these years, but still the need for the artifact has not arisen. Back in New Strinston, Council Members changed a few times, and there are now completely new members, ones that have never actually met Kolvyr in person. The brown draiks became a sort of legend in the kingdom, but much more real than that. But while they are admired by the citizens of New Strinston, the Council is very different.

Over the years, the Council stopped viewing the Kolvyr as people, and more as tools. As a result, the three Kolvyr started getting very annoyed with the Council, Kolvyr Orthiar in particular. Whenever they send a command that gets on their nerves, they usually end up snapping at Eander, the messenger, or just being put in a completely bad mood. One that thing that particularly gets in their nerves, though, is when the Council threatens them.

You see, over the years the Kolvyr have become used to not being together. Rather than viewing themselves as one person as they did has hatchlings, they have started to really become individuals, though they're still connected in a way no other is. The Council, knowing this, will often threaten them if they disobey them. They tell the Kolvyr that they can easily join the three back together and create a new creature for the job of guarding the artifact. This one threat is one of the only things keeping the Kolvyr in check, though day by day they come closer to full out rebelling. However, their sense of duty also gets in the way. They were born for this particular purpose, and they aren't likely to give it up.

New Strinston

History

Coming soon

Government

The Government of New Strinston is both complex and incredibly simple. Instead of being ruled by a king, like the other three, they are ruled by a Council. The Council consists of ten elite members of the country who are educated, quick on their feet, and benevolent. No member of the Council has more power than the other, and something cannot be enacted without the consent of seven or more members of the Council. Each member rules until they become sixty years of age, at which time they must retire. It is possible for one to retire before that, but few do. Council members can be taken into the council at any age, though dragons between the ages of twenty-five and thirty-five are usually picked.

The Council members all live in the capital city of New Strinston, and hold assembly within a central building. This building has a private place for the Council to discuss issues, but it also has a place for public assemblies, often allowing the citizens to partake in some decisions.

To keep things even, they allow five females and five males to make up the Council. When one council member retires or dies, a dragon of the same gender will take their place. Among these is usually at least one experienced Sorcerer. When a new member of the Council must be chosen, they take nominations from each other, as well as from certain citizens. The new member can be chosen from anyone in the city, from a simple farm worker to a higher noble. They do, however, have the right to decline the offer of joining the Council.

Geography

New Strinston is a large land mass with varying geography. It stretches from deserts to mountains, from coasts to forests. Its geography is what drew the three countries to it in the first place, for the diverse terrain provides a number of resources. Water lies between New Strinston and the other three countries. The area is neither large nor narrow, but it is wide enough to separate the lands from each other by a good distance.

Northern New Strinston is generally cold, for it's rather close to the polls. Tundras, mountains, and forests are most common, but farther east or west you might find grasslands and marshes.

Central/Southern New Strinston is where the most dragons reside, including the capitol city where the Council sits. This area has a good deal of forests, grasslands, hills, and clearings, and the climate is rather mild.

Western New Strinston is dominated by deserts, grasslands, and a few forests, and can get rather hot. It is less densely populated than Central, but there are still a good deal of dragons here and there. The waters around the coasts and generally warm, only cooling farther north.

Eastern New Strinston is marshy, forested, and has a good deal of lakes. It's generally quite humid, but is quite liked for it's good growing-soil. It's population rivals Central and Southern New Strinston. Because New Strinston is so large, the Council can not accurately govern the entire country. Because of this, small sections of land, usually containing four or more towns/cities, are lead by a noble. Said noble has most authority over their land, though not entirely. Any large decision that could impact a large amount of people must be made by the Council. Smaller things, though, such as the construction of a building, can be safely made by the leading noble.

The Messenger

The three Kolvyrs sometimes find the need to send a message to one another, but since they cannot be in the same area, it would be nearly impossible. Because of this, the council, with the help of another sorcerer, created a messenger for them. In Neopian terms, he is a grey faellie, but he sort of looks like a flying fox, in a way. His name is Eander (pronounced Ee - AND - Er), and he is one of a kind.

The little creature is stormy-grey, marked with white and cyan patterns, with wings on his feet and head. He does, also, have wings to fly, though they are so small they defy reason by allowing him to fly.

He looks perpetually tired and sad, because he is almost always on the move. Yet, that is far from his real personality. He takes his job very seriously, but he loves it. It is very hard to get him to rest, and he will not unless ordered to do so by one of the Kolvyrs. Though, beside his duty, he also has an air of mischievousness about him. When the message isn't dire or important, he likes to play tricks and just over all mess around.

Eander has not always had it easy, though. On many occasions, he has been captured and tortured in order for the enemy to find out the whereabouts of the Kolvyrs. Eander, though, never speaks of where they are, and can endure a great amount of pain. In fact, when he was created, they made sure to make it so if he were killed, he would be reborn a few hours later. This was incredibly strenuous magic, and it nearly killed the sorcerers performing it. Because of that, they likely will never do it again, and most certainly not on any larger creature.

Magic and Sorcery

Magic is a very common thing in Talamh - in times past, almost everyone who had money knew how to do wonderful things with magic, and anyone without money could do simple things. It is still this way in Hayan Bay, Strinston, and Remnic, but the practice has slipped slightly in New Strinston. It is still done, of course, but not on the wide scale that it used to be. Most magic done is by 'resident sorcerers' in towns and cities, by those on the Council, and those with inborn magical abilities.

Learned magic

Learned magic is exactly what it sounds like - magic that is taught, passed down from teacher to student. Remnic, Strinston, and Hayan Bay have schools for this, where anyone who can pay their way can learn magic. There are, of course, teachers in New Strinston as well, though they are harder to come by.

Learned magic usually uses things like the Artifact, that is something to amplify or direct magic. Some dragons use staffs or wands, others use rings and other things. With this kind of magic, you can do almost anything you could possibly want. There are, of course, rules, but there are also limitations. Magic cannot bring back the dead, no matter how hard you try. It can heal things to a point - old wounds, such as a missing finger, cannot be repaired, but an open wound, fresh and bleeding, can usually be healed.

Inborn magic

Inborn magic is more common than one might think. It is often referred to as talents, and these talents are sometimes enhanced by learned magic. This magic is usually hereditary, though it can come up randomly in some lines as well. Inborn magic doesn't have as much variety as learned magic, but some talents are rather interesting. Healing talents are common, or the ability to make plants grow when they would otherwise have died. More uncommon are the abilities to change one's shape - not in the sense of a shapeshifter, who can change into any creature, but more along the lines of changing the way their body looks. Some are able to grow wings when otherwise they would not have them, or give themselves two tails.

Sometimes inborn magic is enhanced by teaching. Someone who has a healing talent, for example, can boost them up from allowing bones to heal in days rather than weeks, to making the bones heal in hours. Few dragons learn how to make their talent greater, but those who do often are high in society.

Kolvyr Turas

PROFILE INFO HERE

Turas' Terrain

In vague senses, Kolvyr Turas covers the north, though that could mean just about anything really. In the north of New Strinston, there are mountains, valleys, tundras, and forests, a wide range of areas really. Oddly enough, these aren't entirely the best kinds of grounds to run on. Turas has had to adapt very quickly to running over loose ground, slick ice, around trees, and across rocks. This is, in a sense, an advantage over those who seek to catch him, for they're usually poorly suited to going across that ground.

The weather he has to fight is some of the harshest in the kingdom. Bitter cold winters and blistering summers are only a small slice. He is quite comfortable in this weather, though, as he's gotten quite used to it.

Once in a while he'll stray into the other kingdoms, but it's difficult for him to get to them due to the fact that there's a large body of water between them. Usually he's content to just stay hidden and well away from other dragons.

Turas' Artifact

Kolvyr Turas' artifact is the most unusual looking of the three. It is a sphere with three triangles stemming from it, all seemingly suspended in air. Though it appears to float above his neck, it is, in fact, attached by magic, making it supposedly impossible to remove. However, despite what they thought, it can be removed by force, like the other two. If Turas' is removed, it could possibly kill him, at the very least damage his throat beyond repair.

Because his artifact is so unusual looking, whenever he comes in contact with other dragons, he usually disguises himself and the artifact to appear as something else. Otherwise it'd be a dead giveaway to who he is.

Acquaintances

Not every dragon and creature in the world is out to get the Kolvyrs, of course. Sometimes they form loose friendships with others they meet along their travels.

Kolvyr Sciathan

PROFILE INFO HERE

Sciathan's Terrain

Kolvyr Sciathan covers the west of the world, mostly in deserts, plains, and sometimes forests. He's rather social, though, despite his danger, and he also likes to frequently go into towns. This lands him in trouble sometimes, but there's something about the bright lights and crowds that draws him.

His excellent flying abilities allow him to get to places that have never seen a dragon before. He of course enjoys these times, for it shows him that there still is some mystery to their world.

The places he roams are usually quite hot, and often barren of water. Because of that, he learned long ago how to use magic to summon water, which has come in handy many times. Sometimes his artifact helps him, even, by lending its power.

Sciathan's Artifact

Kolvyr Sciathan's artifact is one that looks rather like an unusual chest-plate, perhaps a piece of armor. This is often to his advantage, for plenty of dragons around the world wear pieces of armor. The large cyan orbs embedded in it, though, prove to be a problem, so when in a town, he usually simply uses magic to cause the orbs to vanish.

His artifact poses the most danger to him, though. Like Turas', it can be removed by force. However, it isn't just attached to his throat, it is his entire chest. So, if take forcefully, it would most certainly kill him. This is an extra drive for Sciathan to be careful.

Kolvyr Orthiar

PROFILE INFO HERE

Orthiar's Terrain

Kolvyr Orthiar covers the east of the world, mainly in marshes, ocean coasts, and cities. Like Sciathan, he likes to be where other dragons are, so he's quite frequently under disguise. This allows him to stay hidden in plain site, though he's had to muscle his way out of things many times.

Marshes and coasts are quite humid, obviously, and sometimes humidity can effect the ability to fly. Many a time Orthiar has been grounded because of this, though he started to learn how to get around the humidity. Mostly it was through magic, though a few other things worked in his favor - mostly his stubbornness got him in the air again though.

Orthiar's Artifact

Kolvyr Orthiar's artifact looks the most usual of the three, and so he rarely has to hide it. A bracelet, really, it wraps around his tail with cyan orbs wrapping with it. It is good for Orthiar, though, because he can use it as an extra hard surface to batter enemies with if he so much as swings his tail.

It is also the least dangerous of the three, at least to the trio themselves. If his artifact is taken, it will not kill him - no, not even critically hurt him. Certainly, he would be incredibly unhappy because it would result in the loss of his tail most likely, but it certainly would not be deadly.
