headerShe was my best friend...and this is how I've repaid her.
I close my eyes, and touch my hand to her freshly dug grave. The soil was still steaming from being in the damp earth. A tear trickles down my face, as I remember that fateful hour.
Lady Korsia, miss Pallur is hear to see you
Turning from my book, I look up to see the playfully dark blue eyes of a Maractite Lutari, my best friend. I nod to the servant that showed her in, excusing her. I turn to Pallur, who curtsys to me.
Her eyes are full of mischief, she knows how much I hate being called that.
Come on now Pallur, don't 'Milady' me! For goodness sake, I'm the middle child of a man who is the second son of a minor noble, I'm as far from nobility as you are.
She tosses her head in mock arrogance, "I'll let you know, that I'm investigating my possible connection to the king himself! You see, I think that his great-grand-uncle's fourth son-
I laugh, that's Pallur for you. Always 'investigating her possible connections' to all sorts of royalty, none of which are even half reasonable. She loves titles and all those things, while I could care less for my Ladyship.
Our differences have always made us the best of friends. She was daring, while I was timid. I hated the numerous fencing lessons that I was forced to attend, while she jealously watched on. I was always shy around boys, while Pallur would brawl with the best of them. I love books, while Pallur could not sit still through even a short novel. Yes, we were the best of friends.
Best of all, Pallur was the only one how would listen to me, believe in me, support me. She was the only one who did not expect me to hopefully marry into a nice rich family. Instead, she would always tell me that my family's ideas are outdated and medieval, we might live in Meridell, but we are not in Tyrannia.
Come on Ko, let's take a trip to the woods today! We can go to that old tree, you love that thing! I've packed up a lunch for us in my knapsack, so let's go!
I close my book and nod, for some reason I've always felt at home in the haunted woods. Normally, such a trip would take days, but because my family was nobility of a sort, we had a portal. Me and Pallur had used this much loved treasure to explore many wonderful places. I swing my jacket over my shoulder, and I quickly change into some soft trousers. I have always hated the feel of skirts, and my trousers were my secret delight.
Me and Pallur skip brightly through the portal, and arrive at our usual spot in the haunted woods. The light is at it's brightest, it's just past noon. We head off towards our favorite resting spot, the site of many hours of wonderful memories. A strange blue tree on the edge of a steep cliff that over looks the woods. It's a beautiful view, and near enough to our portal spot to be within walking distance.
Oh, had we not gone. My last happy hours were spent there, until doom came upon me.
