It'll help you on your neoboard travels. It's the n00b-To-English Dictionary! Take your time. The language is quite difficult to master. And before you read on, here's the names of boards that are shortened to rest Sora's tired fingers :) EMS: Evil Things and Monster Sightings OW: Other Worlds FC: Fan Clubs ANS: Avatars/NeoSignatures BD: Battledome BC: Beauty Contest IS: Ideas/Suggestions CP: Any Plot board (Maraquan or otherwise) RP: Roleplaying TA: Trading/Auctions SM: Stock Market SA: Shop Ads SG: Spotlights and Galleries What is a n00b? There is a fine line between a n00b/noob and a newbie. A newbie is new to Neopets and is curious about how it works. If they ask "How do I change my pet's color/species/gender?" or "What does this item do?" it doesn't make them a n00b. Itf they ask something silly like "What's a neopet?" but in chatspeak and they've been on for 3 months, that's a n00b. Not all n00bs use chatspeak, most do, but not all. The lesson? Don't jump to conclusions! Teach the newbies and help them to make their stay in Neopia as enjoyable as possible. Types Of Boards, What They Mean, and Usual Habitats Any person who pays too little for avatars: Now who does this apply to? glares at Sora Anyhoo, "cheapies" as I call them, usually want to reach the status of the player, jazz_invincible. Unfortunately for the cheapie, fame has a price. Seen in the ANS Fan Board Makers: Seen in the FC Any board about a tragedy: Usually these are scams to get paintbrushes. Appear often in the FC and Newbie boards Hate Boards: A congregation of haters leads to a flame war. Not pretty. Appear in FC and EMS Blood Bars: Like hate boards. Appear almost completely on EMS Demons: Yes, guest. It's amazing what people claim they are nowadays, eh? On the EMS mainly, sparcely seen on the RP Dance: Bored teens, usually chatspeakers. Seen on RP and FC, rarely on Newbie. Embarrassing Moment Boards: Common in the Newbie and FC. Sora has seen some in the EMS Raters: Common where ever you go. People Who Advertise Guilds On Non-Guild Boards: These don't have a specified place of roaming. They tend to appear and disappear. Even though I like fishsticks :) n00b Field Guide There are many n00bs out there, guest. Don't be caught unawares! Read up on the local noobs! Godmoders: Godmoders try and make themselves superior by having traits such as immortality, ultimate weapons, etc. When caught, godmoders get very defensive by either killing you with their "godly" weapon or by whining. Godmoders are located in the RP board Beggers: Beggers make boards and try to get neopoints or items off of someone. Never give a begger anything since they need to learn that work is needed to gain what you wish. Beggers are found in the Newbie and FC boards, sightings have been reported on the OW board. Scammers: These brutes will offer something that seems too good to be true. Sadly, it is. Scammers usually don't want to work for their items and rip off other people. How rude! Scammers are prevelent in all boards except for Plot and Merchandise boards. Raters: These can vary from user to user. Some are all in chatspeak and it's quite annoying. Most raters need your real name. NEVER GIVE IT TO THEM! You don't know who could be at the other end of the line. Sobbers: Sobbers are my term, they are people who make up terrible stories about tragedies, usually for attention. They gain negative attention and rarely a few supporters. Sobbers appear in the Newbie boards mostly. Few have been seen on the FC and EMS. About Kiwikku Kiwikku laughs. "Ah, so you want to learn about the one who wrote these guides? Very well. She pulls out a book titled "Scams" Don't be a victim, guest. Read this book. Tragedy scam: This usually involves the death of a loved on or pet. For example "My friend has cancer and she wants a baby pb!" Most likely they'll take the paintbrush and run. Quests: Faeries NEVER ask for paintbrushes or codestones. Jhudorah or Illusen might ask for a codestone, but to my knowledge, that hasn't happened. NOTE: A user has told me it's rare, but it happens. Games: If you can't play flash games, play non-flash games. That simple Internet Safety Ah yes, the internet is a wonderful invention. But it can be dangerous out there, guest. Here's a list of things to think about to keep you safe as you roam neopets. NEVER GIVE OUT REAL NAME, LOCATION, OR AGE!: You could be a target for online meanies if you are the right age group. Statistics show that usually teen girls are targets for online meanies. Even though they might be your bestest online friend in the whole wide world, NEVER give out age, location, or real name. NEOPOINT AND ITEM GENERATORS DO NOT WORK!: Sora's "friend" ran one of these "generators" and 30 people were scammed. She was disgusted and turned him in. He is now frozen. The moral? Generators only succeed in hacking your account and losing, not gaining. Do not fall for these. And if you use one pass for everything, this can seriously damage your online e-mails and such. GOING ON THE BOARDS? LET THE PARENTS KNOW!: Your chances of staying safe online increase when you let your parent or guardian know.
