Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder...

Taking the shortcut home wasn't one of your brighter ideas. The path is overgrown, and mutant slorgs coat the trees. You realize that most of those aren't trees, though, they're actually mutant firs. A pale white lupe with one paw that appeared to be on fire and a pitch black tail steps out of the wood.

Who are you?
Who are you?
I am Kipperlin, mutant beholder of this forest. Now I will ask again...who are you?
guest.
guest? Hm. Sounds a bit a familiar. But that's aside from the fact.
What do you do here, anyway?
I take care of these mutant creatures...this is a haven for them, where they aren't hated and treated poorly for their looks.

The lupe turns and runs off, leaving small puddles of muck wherever he steps.

I

Chance brought me to my first home. I was abandoned, cast aside solely because I wasn't painted a pretty color. My mother had told me the day I was born..."Kip, you don't have to be painted to be special. People should and will love you anyways." And I lived by those words; screaming them at people in desperation as they walked by, stumbling at their ankles, tears pouring down my face as they just kept walking. And I began to think I would never have an owner.

Until I was once scouring for food. I was living in the city now; the health food quiggle gave me scraps now and then after he closed down, and I ate well, normally. I was just finishing up an apple one day when someone spotted me. I jumped up in shock as they moved towards me. Before I could do anything; he had caught me around the waist and was stroking the top of my head. "What's your name?" He asked. "Kipperlin," I whispered, falling asleep. "My name is Kipperlin.

Life was good with my new family. My brothers, Debiruakki, Grixkye and Aerostatix were all odd in their own way, but they managed to fit in somehow. Grixkye always scared me. He never spoke, but I was told he could read minds and speak to other people using his thoughts. I never heard him, but Debiruak said I'd probably hear him as I got older.

Then came the day when my owner came home with a present for all of us. He took out a roll of paper from his pocket and showed us nine pieces of paper taped together. "What is it?" I asked. "It's the secret laboratory map." He replied. "It can do anything." We followed our owner to the secret laboratory, getting lost several times along the way, but we finally made it. Hawk turned and looked directly at me. "You first, Kip." He said. I shuddered. "No, please, no..." I said, backing away. "You don't have to be painted to be special; people should and will love me anyways!" I cried; realizing I was reciting my mothers words. It was too late. I was stationed under the lab ray. I trembeled as it powered up; and turned and ran. But it was too late. I had been hit.

II

Trying to run from the lab had cost me. I had changed color to white; but it missed my back paw. Part of it was still blue. I lay curled up in our living room for hours in embarrassment, sitting painfully on top of my blue paw just to hide it. My brothers didn't seem to notice, and just attributed my strange behavior to 'post zap jitters'. I vowed never to appreciate the blue paw; or my white fur. All that I had lived for had been dashed in that single zap. I suddenly saw my owner for what he really was--greedy and selfish. He didn't want pets for their personality; he wanted them for a status symbol! After I had told him that being a basic color was okay, he still felt the need to change my color.

Aerostatix became the 'lab rat' after that; and I came to resent him. Every day he would come home, showing off his new colors and wearables. Grixkye I hated even more; because he scolded me constantly for not appreciating the money and time Hawk had put into changing our appearances. I decided to run away, and find a blue paint brush on my own.

That night; I slipped out the front door without even trying. I carried the winter blechy hat Hawk had given me for Christmas, stuffed with enough food for a week. I travelled through a forest scheduled to be cut down to make room for new shops, and I decided upon my fate. I would stay put in this forest, and let the machines rip me apart like the trees. I nestled my head down in my paws; thinking one last time of my owner, my brothers, and my mother.

III

A ghost xweetok was looking me directly in the eye as I woke up. I jumped back; startled. "You're dead; Kipperlin." He said plainly. I looked down at myself; white still, and with the dreaded blue paw. I scowled at it. "What were you doing in that forest?" The xweetok asked; tilting his head to one side. I hung my head. "My mother's gone...my owner is a sick, cruel, greedy person, and I had to live the rest of my life with this." I said; sticking my paw up. The xweetok shook his head. "That doesn't seem that bad. Not bad enough to let yourself get destroyed; anyway." I sighed. "It doesn't matter." The xweetok paused. "I want to show you something.

The xweetok led me across the remains of the forest, mostly stumps and fallen brush. "You feel ashamed at your appearance, correct?" He said, walking along briskly. "Yes," I answered. "You want to get away from your cruel owner, correct?" He asked. "Yes," I repeated. "Then do I have a job for you." He said, suddenly whirling around to face me. "I need you to do me a favor." He said, grinning slyly.

I woke up. Looking around, I noticed the forest was still standing. The xweetok was gone. It was just a dream. About to stand up, discouraged the xweetok hadn't had a job for me after all, my front paw caught fire. I jumped up in terror; beating it upon the ground, trying to put it out. "Don't worry about that." The xweetok's voice said. "It's nothing, really. Just a perk of the job, is all." I looked around. "What do you want me to do?" I cried, throwing myself to the ground. "I want you to take care of mutants for me. I will prevent the forest from being destroyed; and you will guard the mutants for me." My tail twitched; which had now turned black at the end. "For how long?" The xweetok sounded dumbfounded. "Well, forever, of course.

As I started to take care of the mutants, I began to change. I was less fearful; and less worrysome of my appearance. The blue paw no longer bothered me, and in time, became so covered in muck and grime you couldn't even tell it was blue. I aqcuired a mutant miamouse to help me patrol the forest; and every two years, I would return to my owner. After time; I began to appreciate him more, and he didn't seem as greedy and miserly. He was usually always working on a picture or story of one of us; and in just a few years, I felt I belonged at last.

Adoptables

If you would like one; neomail me with a ref pic or a description as to what you want yours to look like...

rules

-please don't use these in the BC. :/ I know they wouldn't win, but don't risk it. Even if it's your lupe; I still drew the picture, poorly drawn as it may be. XD
-please don't take anyone elses custom; that's just uncreative and you won't gain anything from it--not only did you steal someone elses design, but you stole my drawing as well.

-I don't NEED a ref pic; I can work with just a description, but...ref pics are easier to work with...

-Copy Kip's design, and you WILL REGRET IT.

-please don't, rather, do NOT take my link off these; that's art theft and is reportable. I don't care that it says 'the_elite_defenders' on it or not...I make the rules, YOU FOLLOW THEM! (I'm practicing for when I take over the world, you see. ^^) If you don't like the border, then just add 'border=0' after your image URL. If you can't do that; ask me.

-There are only two here you can take without my permission--the baby lupe and the mutant lupe. I'll get to work on the others later...probably sometime during February vacation, I've got a 9 hour car trip to New Hampshire, so I'll get the basic colors all done then...

try and take someone elses adoptable. I DARE YOU.

Don't like my rules? Then don't expect to get a custom from anyone else...

Family

Aerostatix
Once a kindhearted sponge blumaroo, all that changed when his equally kind doglefox was transformed into the meepit, Dirigibles. Power hungry and insane, he quickly and easily took control of Aerostatix's fragile mind. Already under the stress of constant personality changes, he handed over his wings without question and unknowingly joined Sloth's army, ready to fight for Virtupets at any second.

Debiruakki
At a young age, he was sold into an illegal pet auction and separated from his family forever. He was then left in the pound for the next four years, and when he finally escaped, war had broken out in Neopia, and he quickly found friendship in a rainbow aisha. He never did find his family, but considered his new one an excellent replacement.

Grixkye
Well read and the voice of reason to his brothers, Grixkye was born as a yellow eyrie, set on adventure and exploring Neopia. After he decided there was no room left for him to stay at his current home, he ran off so as not to be a burden. After nearly a year, he returned home, somber, mutated, and mute. The only way to communicate with him was through the mind, and whenever he tried to tell about how he became a buzz, he would twitch in pain and just forget about it.
