As you walk through the woods, you are slightly unnerved by the sound of pawsteps, kept to perfect timing with your own loud footsteps.
You aren't alone.
Quickening your pace slightly, you try to reassure yourself that you're safe and on your way home.
Almost out of here. You murmur quietly, weaving along the fading path as though you know exactly where you're going.
Actually you're heading further in. A clipped voice corrects you, though you'd think that someone who wanted to help would sound a little more sympathetic.
Turning, you see a xweetok, perched in the trunk of a hollow tree, bored apparently with your presence. Thank you. Glancing around, you notice it seems to be getting darker. A lot darker.
You may as well just come in. The xweetok slides out from her hiding place, opens the intricately hidden bark door. You can go first. Just crawl down the tunnel until you reach my burrow.
There's little else you can do besides accept the bland invitation. You follow her instructions, and start crawling into the earth.
