24th Jan: I advertised FAL and the Quiz over the weekend, listing a bunch of new screenie pages which can be viewed under the Recent Activity. Also, listed JG's HP Comics in the L.O.L. today. [=3]
12th Jan: It's Kelly's birthday today. You know, that yellow Bori who co-owns this directory and whose petpage we're looking at? Precisely. She's sixteen today, or six, depending on whether you're looking at the character's age or the age of the Neopet. We'd better go with sixteen I think. So - Happy Birthday, Kels! [C=]
1st Jan 2012: Happy New Year, everyone! [=D]
23rd Dec: Listed Keep Calm and Laugh Out Loud. [=3]
2nd December: Finished sweeping the screenie listings, and of course finished adding the new info regarding illustrations: 37 have been designated as 'some only' and 80 as 'most or all', while 153 had no drawings at all. After the removal of 21 vanished pages, this makes the illustrated versus the non-illustrated equal to 43% versus 57%. [C:]
1st December: Realised today that I'd forgotten about including the usernames of people who 'like' a screenie page. I mentioned, in August, that I was going to start doing this - this usernames will appear when you hover your cursor over the little box that contains the number of likes.
To counteract my forgetfulness I have now changed the 'Recent Additions' (at the top of the screenie listings) to 'Recent Activity', so it will now include both new listings and likings, which should serve to remind me.
I'm working my way through the screenie listings at the moment, checking for vanished pages, and in the process I am adding a bit of new information: Illustrations. I've completed up to 'I', so you can go and look at the listings prior to that to see how it's looking if you like. Listings will either say 'Illustrated (most or all)', 'Illustrated (some only)' or nothing. Don't know why it's never occurred to me to add this info before; I know I would find it useful myself. 14th November: Added Jonah8951200's Screenies. [=3]
11th October: FAL has been ranked 3rd in Directories at Merely Michelle. [=)]
9th October: Listed Press the Button! in the LOL.
4th October: Listed at Dragon's Lair (so has been the Triv' Quiz).
29th September: Listed at Epcot Directory.
13th September: The Triv' Quiz has been gifted a button by Monky at Utopia. Thanks! [C=]
10th September: The Triv' Quiz is a 'Notable Site' at The Paper Lantern! [C=]
31st August: The 'Like' feature in the screenie listings shall now also record /who/ liked a page as well as how many likes it has received. See Cubefish's listing and hover your cursor for the text.
25th August: Congratulations! Your entry (A World of Screenies) has been selected to appear in a future issue of the Neopian Times. Three and a half years ago (yikes, has it been that long?) I wrote an article about making good screenies and it was published in the Neopian Times. Last month I was checking the links in FAL's Guides and I found myself rereading what is now an out-of-date and not very well put piece of writing. So I've written a new one. By the way, 'a future issue' actually means the next one to come out, which will appear Friday.
Also, the results for the Golden Sandwich Awards, mentioned on the 8th, are now in. FAL placed 4th in Best Link Directory with 1 vote while The Triv' Quiz placed 3rd in Best Site Idea (4 votes) and was also chosen for Turnip's Pick for that category. [=O] Which is all exceptionally gratifying.
9th August: Ah... If you're wondering why there are stray Slorgs around the page, I'm afraid that's because they've escaped from their hatchery. Sorry about that! [n.n] Just keep an eye on the floor so you don't slip on the slime. Oh and if you want to help us recover them then please go ahead and report them to the Hub. Thanks!
8th August: FAL got a couple of nominations in the Golden Sandwich Awards, a very pleasant surprise, and The Triv Quiz seems to be in the running for Best Site Idea under Special Categories. [=O]
I've just worked my way through the Screenie Guides, the LOL and FAL's affiliates, tidying and removing closed pages.
29th July: Listed in Brave Directory.
7th July: Listed in Zioned Directory. [=3]
14th June: The Quiz went up to 110 questions yesterday, including the very first guest question. [=D]
3rd June: Joined by another of Cour's affiliates, Spread the Joy. [=D]
2nd June: Yesterday I finally added the award for the Spot The Difference. And I've made the Quiz its own button. Today the Quiz has reached 100 questions and FAL has a new affiliate in Angel's Directory (which was an affiliate of my other site Courier, now closed). [=3]
28th May: FAL has a new affiliate in Elle's Help Guide! [n.n] Added ten more questions to the Triv' Quiz yesterday (well, nine actually - I decided I didn't really need to end on 91 as opposed to 90). The Quiz has also got a bit more interesting/complex with the addition of bonus questions and guest questions, both of which are explained in its new Info section. [=D]
25th May: Received the review from Inspection Express. Bella made some fine points and I have made a few adjustments based on her suggestions; including enlargening the navigation's text size slightly and bolding the main links under the screenie listings. It was good to have a fresh eye look at those things, since they're fairly new.
24th May: Had a real fun evening advertising the Triv' Quiz on the Help Chat yesterday. Finished up the making of twenty new questions today, so we're up to 81 now. [=D]
23rd May: The request for a review at Critique fell through. I have now requested reviews at Inspection Express and Inception.
19th May: +1 Like.
11th May: Requested a review at Critique.
6th May: Forgot to mention I added ten new questions to the Triv' Quiz a couple of days ago. Would like to be adding more than I'm managing at the moment, but with it being Lutari-Cybunny-Hissi Day season I'm having to concentrate my energies on A Gift For Life.
26th April: Added new questions to the Triv' Quiz, so it's up to 51 now. I hope to add more at regular intervals. We'll see how it goes.
24th April: Introducing another new Game - The Triv' Quiz, which is actually located off FAL's main page due to practicality and can be found here.
I don't know if you'd remember but there used to be a very popular scavenger hunt around call The NeoHunt. It was very well done. Very well done. I would have liked to give it a proper nod, but it's closed now.
23rd April: So, that was half a morning spent requesting to be listed in A Little List, Android Directory, Angel's Directory, Enchanted, Lemon vs. Lime Directories, Phoenix Directory, Sky Blue Directory, Smiley Central, Spark and Useful Directory. [=D]
22nd April: So, my right shoulder is a bit tense but I have happily finished putting in the titles in the screenie listings. Huzzah! I actually got up to R yesterday evening (I found half watching audio commentaries was an effective weapon against the tedium) and just finished them off this morning. Thirty-six pages removed for having vanished.
21st April: I'm already up to 'I' in exchanging petnames for titles in the screenie listings (yay!) and today I've also been sprucing up FAL's Games. I've rewritten the explanations for improved clarity, reorganised the scoreboard and have added an entirely new game called Spot The Similarity. You can guess what that involves. Have yet to make an award graphic for it yet - must not forget to do that. Remind me. [C;] And I fully intend to come up with a few more games to add, because what's the point in a games section if there's only two to play?
20th April: Found a solution for the Liking feature. Where the screenie listings's expanded navigation pops up, another box will appear over the top of that when any of the 'Like this page?' links are pressed. This box contains the info about sending me the username of that screenie page. I'm going to make a little animated arrow to make sure the box's appearance can't go unnoticed. [;D]
And having written out my uncertainties about the 'Pet' links yesterday, I decided the best thing would be to do option #2: change 'Pet' for the title of the listing and put it above 'User', but keep them alphabetised by 'User' still. I'm going to be making that change here on the live page, since it may take a while and I'll need the satisfaction of visible progress.
19th April: I feel like I've done even more than I did yesterday. Lots of minor stuff again (like, oh, lightening the blue of the links so they're easier to spot). I've also taken the screenie listings out of their scrollbox, a decision I'm more confident about now I've added an alphabetical navigation for them (which pops up via the (show nav?) link on the main nav bar. So there are also now white index markers among the listings to indicate where a letter begins.
I've expanded 'About FAL' and renamed it 'Find A Laugh's Journey', since it seemed a bit pointless being so brief. I may yet stick it in a scrollbox or something. It's taking up rather more space than its non-importance deserves at the moment. Oh and not that it's noticeable but I've tidied my coding a bit and made sure there's nothing in my stylesheet that's not actually in use.
I may be slowing down a little. I'm a bit stuck what to do about a couple of points concerning the screenie listings. One: the Liking feature, which simply doesn't work now that TNT have taken away preformed neomails. Which is annoying and I have no answers yet. Two: I'm not sure it makes sense that the first link in each little box doesn't lead to the screenies in question. Do I swap 'Pet' and 'User' around (and possibly reorder everything by petname)? Do I take away 'Pet' and add in the screenie page's title above 'User' as the link? They wouldn't need reordering if I did this last, but not every screenie page is actually constructed enough to have a title.
18th April: So... I didn't exactly intend to leave FAL in a mess for the better part of a month, but apparently I did. Blaming college. Now, though, my renovations are back on track. [=D] I've finally put FAL's navigational links into the new fixed navigation bar at the bottom of your screen. I've moved updates and linkback buttons from the intro area up top to the sitely area down bottom (I might implement a 'today's news' thing like I have on AGFL but I'm not sure yet). Oh and I've given the behemoth that was the 'List Me?' section a serious downsizing. It was insanely long-winded. Other, smaller edits are numerous.
24th March: You may notice the layout is a little wonky at the moment; that's because I'm trying to improve things. If I need to do any major experimentation I promise to do it on a tester version and not here on the live version, eheh. [n.n]
20th March: Affiliated with Nite Time, the very tidy and concise guild directory. [=)] And I'm thinking it might be time to search for a bunch of new directories to list my sites in; haven't done that in a while.
15th March: Finally fixed FAL's issues since TNT's coding changes.
7th February: Affiliated with Metis. [=3]
12th January, 2011: Our Bori co-owner, Kelly, is celebrating her fifteenth birthday today (or fifth if you like to stick to reality). Happy birthday, Kels! [C=]
