-blocked--blocked--blocked--blocked--blocked--blocked--blocked--blocked--blocked--blocked- ![]() Hi there! I'm Keeranu, but most people just call me Kee. My owner, who goes by the name of Ozzybantam ('Ozz'... straaange name, if you ask me), made my name from the wordKeeran. I think she said that was a Celtic word or something... it means little dark one. And she just smacked the letter 'u' right after it... how ... artistic. I might be dark, but I'm NOT little! I'm actually one of the biggest draiks around, and... what are you looking at, guest? o.0' NOOOOO! Not my baby photo! What's that doing here?! Stop looking, please! Sigh. I'll get Ozz for that. Now I'll have to start all the way at the beginning, and I was hoping to tell this fast and get it over with. It's such a nice day, Lake Drake must be really busy by now. Mrp. Anyway... let's go back. I'll tell you what Ozz, my owner, told me. (hold on to your socks, she can not stop once she begins to spin a tale) It is not a wellknown fact the Draiks are actually one of the oldest species in Neopia, a race with one of the richest histories to date. It is said that, ages ago, many Draiks roamed the planet. They formed thight communities, also known as Draik Clans, consisting of mostly family members. These Clans kept to themselves, even though most where wanderers at hart. When all other Neopian species started concentrating on one side of the planet and cities started to arise, the Draiks withdrew themselves to the other side of the planet, the wilder lands, the socalled Outlands. A few remained in the area which would become Meridell in centuries to come, but most where repelled by the sudden gathering of creatures, the shattering of the peace of nature. The respect other creatures ever had for them, for their prowess, wisdom and strength, dissapeared slowly. Many creatures turned on them, for the wandering Draiks took up 'WAY too much room!' according to most. Clans where chased of their lands by hordes of creatures, and what was once pure and beautiful soon became riddled with cement, iron and tall buildings. So they fled, only to be seen a few times afterwards when they came to trade for medicines and weapons. The Clans lived happily in their solitude, enjoying the wildness of the Outlands. Some started their own cities, legendary places of gathering. Others lived happily in the deep caverns scattered throughout the wilderness. They where content, and live went on. But soon the Clans discovered their mistake... the entire planet had been their territory, and by moving away from civilisation they had massed their numbers on only half the land they where used to live upon. And none of the Clans was willing to give up their small share of the Outlands. Clans started to guard their borders fiercely, sending out their most prized fighters to keep out the other Clans. Tension grew, though some leaders did not want to see this. The athmosphere in the Clans became tight, unbearable, and to maintain disciple the Clan leaders where forced to Outcast any Draik that dared to cause any kind of trouble. Soon bands of Clanless Draiks where wandering the lands, rebelling against the Clan Elders, provoking fights and attempting to get as many Draiks on their side as possible. Other Clans greedily watched their neighbours territory, moving the marked borders in the black of night. And what started with small fights slowly escalated into small wars. Meanwhile the 'civilised' lands where prospering, unaware of the turmoil at the other side of the planet. Many tragedies happened in that time. Clans of noble warriors vanished, defeated by treachery. Leaders and kings turned to their mystics, throwing themselves at their mercy, believing all that was said, and so destroyed themselves from within. Other Clans refused to let fresh blood in, and became extinct over the centuries. Eventually hate and bloodfeuds ran so deep that nobody could even remember why there was so much anger. Clans started to seek allies, promising the lands of the opposing Clans as bounty. There was one final, all-out war... which decimated their numbers and left all Clans weakened. Then came the year of the Plague, a disease which whiped out half of the entire Neopian population... but for the Draiks this was the final, deadly blow. The cure came too late. The survivors dissappeared into the wilderness, never to be seen again, and over time the Draik Clans became a mere memory, vanished in history, their heritage unknown. The Outlands where never explored, it took civilisation a long time to recover after the plague. The Draiks where forgotten, and time went on. Then a miracle happened; in a lucky stroke Meridell was rediscovered, and ancient tomes where found, with stories of the long lost Draiks and the Outlands. While adventurers went to explore the Outlands and hunt for treasures, something stirred in Meridell. 7000 Draiks had survived over the ages, 7000 of the original millions, living in solitude, deep in the dark Meridell forests! They felt it was their time... and made their presence known to the world. And this time their greatest fear did not come true; Draiks where widly accepted in all sorts of Neopian families. History did not repeat itself, and Draiks became part of everyday Neopian life, mostly unaware of their heritage. And now we come to the most important part of the tale (^^); me! The Outlands had become quite a magnet for all sorts of treasure and thrill seekers, and along it's borders markets had shot out of the ground like mushrooms. Here Neopians sold supplies to the travellers, while the travellers sold their found treasueres and relics to the Neopians. Rare herbs and spices where also found in the Outlands, so the markets grew and grew. And ofcourse my owner had to go take a look, nosy person as she is. She withdrew money from the bank, booked passage on a ship, and off she went. She took her beloved fighter pet, Questaxx (my brother, an electric Gelert), with her as protection. Arriving at the Borders, she was stunned by the beehive that called itself a market. After a few days she learned her way around, and came across her favorite section; relics. She came to look at the goods for four days in a row, but saw nothing to spend her hard earned savings on. The morning of the fifth day her boat back would leave, so she and Questaxx got up early and left the local Inn, with time to spare. They detoured along her favorite section of the market, to say goodbye to it... and walked right into a brawl. Two chefs where shouting at eachother before a stand Ozz had never seen before, both clutching something that vaguely resembled and Egg. It was large, its leathery shell a muddled shade of dark blue. As Ozz approached the fighting duo, she could pick up some words. No, I will buy it! It's the perfect ingredient for my famous Lemon Parfait! In your dreams! All you can bake is pancakes, you kwak!! No, I will use this egg for my famous aperatif... KWAK you said? I'll... I'll... RAWRRR!" As the two disgruntled chefs lunged at eachother, the egg lay forgotten on the stand. Ozz edged her way around the fight and the growing mass of spectators, towards that stand, to take a better look at the strange egg. She had never seen such a thing before... The owner of the stand was watching the fight intently, grinning broadly. This would surely drive up the price for him! Questaxx sneaked underneath the stand, put his frontpaws on the table and briefly touched the mottled egg with his nose. With a sudden move he jerked his head away, his eyes widened in surprise, and then in disgust. As he sneaked back towards Ozz, he looked her in the eyes, pleadingly. She bent down, and he told her in a low voice that it wasn't only an Egg, but that it was alive! Ozz straightened up with a look of horror on her face. It didnt matter witch Chef would win, the unborn creature inside the egg was heading for a sure death! Without hesitation she approached the owner, and offered all her savings, double as much as the Chefs had offered. Silently they exchanged money and egg, and Ozz walked calmly away with the package underneath her arm, Questaxx glaring fiercely at anyone daring to come too close. Back home her Potionborn Draik, Dracahz, instinctivly recognised the egg for what it was: a Draik Egg. Now you must understand something about Draik Eggs. Because of some mystical, foggy reason Draik Eggs can remain dormant and alive for centuries. Even though most of the ancient Draiks had died out, the hatcheries that had not been destroyed remained, hidden deep underground. The Eggs remained dormant, because to hatch such an Egg you need high temperatures, like Draik fire or vulcano grounds. The Meridell hatcheries where found a long time ago, but it was not untill the last of the Draiks emerged from the woods that people found out what to do with the eggs they found. Luckely most Meridellians had not eaten their finds yet... This discovery caused a massive digging-spree in the Outlands, where traces of Draik-inhabitation already had been found shortly before. Never did shovels sell so good... Anyway, my owner actually came across that mottled blue egg just days before the news about the Draik Eggs had spread to the Borders of the Outlands. I would have been someone's breakfast if it wasn't for her... eeeek! Now, because the Eggs had only 'just' been discovered, the location of the famous ancient breeding grounds, the socalled Draiks' Nest, was a mystery to all. So guess what? Since big & broody Dracahz was the only Fire pet Ozz had, he had to uhm... hatch my Egg! Mommy! Never mention it to him through, he might eat you alive... After my birth Drac ignored me... he does not like young things very much, mainly because he has a short fuse and is afraid what he might do when he loses his temper. So I grew up in the Treehouse, with my sister Koriluna, and my brother/sister (depends), Xyllian. I was quite a chubby little hatchling, according to my owner. I guess that's where I got my name from. That 'baby' picture (above) was actually taken a few weeks after my Hatching Day, because at birth I was a light shade of blue. This surprised Ozz a lot; Skunk Draiks like me are supposed to have pitchblack scales, and a single white stripe from nose to tailtip. But I did grow darker and darker the next few days, and eventually this dark shade of blue just... stuck. Not black though... how strange. My eyes turned from baby-blue to golden in a week, and little fins started sprouting from my neck, back and tail. Funny feeling, that is, even weirder then your teeth falling out all of a sudden, and then growing back! Oh, my tail, that's true... I dont have a cool tailspade like most Draiks do, mine is just... gone. Instead I have this weird ring further upon my tail, which does look kinda interesting, I admit. Even though we Draiks can not fly untill our third year (our wings are quite tiny at birth, and need at least 2 years to grow to a decent flying size), I was still always escaping. There are so many fascinating things out there! I was the local menace, my sisters dreaded babysitting me. I'd plough through gardens, loking for hidden treasures, tear up blankets to make escaperopes, or even jump out of the treehouse while insanely flapping my stubby little excuses for wings... Ozz had to mend me many, many times back then... she always says that all those bangs on my head explain a lot. I really do wonder what she means by that... And then came the day I could finally, FINALLY, truly fly! You should have seen the looks on the faces of my darling siblings, standing there on the ground, watching me grow into a dot at the horizon. Mwaha! I was free! I thought... from that moment on Dracahz, became my reluctant chaperone. If I go out far, he follows me. Believe me, I have tried shaking him a zillion times! But he always finds me, very eerie that is. Anyway, I grew up at the treehouse, together with my older siblings Kori and Xy. Though I stayed small in my first 5 years, I started to grow massively in my sixth. I'd eat everything in my reach! It didn't take a long time before I was even towering over Ozz, and even Dracahz! Now... let's skip a few years, this is boring. The day I finally reached my full size, the day I stopped growing, the day I... uhm... yes that day, Dracahz told me I was no longer a child. I was huge, I thought, and other pets used to back away when I landed somewhere, or be too afraid to talk to me... for the old tales about the fierce nature of Draiks where spreading again. It was time to meet others of my kind, far far away... it was time to leave my childhood home. I was very excited; finally my big brother and me would travel Neopia, finally he saw me as a full Draik, not a bothersome babbling baby! Well, he still thinks I'm bothersome, and still calls me Hatchling sometimes... sigh. I longed to see Meridell, the fabled home of my kind, and maybe even Faerieland... when I told my brother about this, he frowned deeply, and told me that was not where we where heading. We where to travel at night, for the place where we where going was only known to Draiks, and should forever remain a secret to other neopians. One night he came to the Treehouse, telling me it was time. You cant believe how nervous I was! Finally I could have adventures, go where no Draik has gone before! (^^) But at the other hand... I'd miss my family horribly. After a looong goodbye (Dracahz:I'd like to leave THIS year please.) Drac and me finally cast off into the dark, stardotted sky. At the crack of the third dawn we crossed the Outland borders, and what a sight that was! Drac seemed to be heading towards a high mountainrange far away, something he told me was named 'Midgard'. The closer we came, the more wild the surroundings became. We had passed the last camp of adventurers a day before. In all my life Drac had been the only other Draik I knew, and I was very excited when I saw the first strange Draik. She was sparkling white in the rising sun, blue markings covered her body. She tipped her wing when she saw Drac, but did not stop. Instead she briefly looked downward before going her way, and Drac tipped his wing in return and nodded towards something below, in the receding shadows of the forest. I think I caught a glimpse of a darkish purple Draik, hiding from the brightening sunlight. It seemed that we where going to an important place... As it turns out the Draiks I saw where named Doragonu and Sephirosu. These 2 and Dracahz had discovered a hidden area in the Outlands on one of their journeys, totally covered with signs that Draiks had once lived there, a long time ago. Was this a place where one of the greatest Clans once lived?
Years and years I had to watch my siblings playing with their petpets... ofcourse they'd let me petpet-sit once in a while, or allowed me to play with them, but that still wasn't the same. After I was old enough to visit neopian Central on my own, I went almost every day to just stand there in front of the petpet shop, snout flat against the glass, staring at all the petpets. I knew exactly what I wanted: a petpet that would be a hundred times cooler then my brothers' and sisters' petpets, ofcourse! And it had to be able to fly, to zoom around with me... so I kept watching, and looking, and begging Ozz for one... but the answer always was:No Kee, you are too young
Too young??!! No way! Ofcourse I was responsible enough! But I could wail and cry and beg all I wanted, I still wasn't allowed to buy a petpet. Years went by, and after a while I just gave up.

Seen enough of all those piccies drawn by my owner? Then check these out! I love it when other people draw me, though I DO have to sit still a lot... Ozz is always complaining about me twitching too much when she is drawing me. Can I help it that it make me itch all over? That horrible sound of a pencil, scratching over a piece of paper... eeek! If I had hairs, they would have stood up straight. Anyway, here are some great pictures other people drew, and then sent them to my owner, so she can give them to me. I love getting presents like that! And I absolutely want to show them of, so... here they are!
Sigh... that was it. No more pretty pictures... Weren't they pretty? I'd love to have more of them though! Which reminds me, my owner told me to tell you she is NOT drawing for other people right now, she is busy enough with me, and my brothers and sisters. She is always saying that drawing me is like drawing 4 neopets, I'm that big! So it's no use asking her... you know what is weird? She does sometimes make pictures for friends who DONT ask her for it! That's how she works, she hates pushy people. Ask and you wont get it... Exactly why I never ask her for strawberries, and always get them from her ^^. Oh, one more thing... I have heard that some people think it is okay to take pretty pictures with them after visiting petsites, taking them even though they did not make them, and then they put it on their own sites! This is stealing! And it makes me so terribly sad... My owner always finds out, all the Draik Clan members always look around for stolen art, and she has a lot of friends. She also always checks the beauty contest every week, to see if a thief has entered my pictures as if they are his/her own. If she sees a thief, she reports him/her to the Neopets staff, and she will ask all her friends to report that thief. Some thieves have even been frozen! Did you know that removing the '(c) Ozzybantam' texts from my pictures is not only a crime in Neopia, but also a crime on 'Earth'? Now you do. So uhm... stealing these pictures will get you more trouble then you can imagine. oh, I'm not saying you are a thief, but some people are, and I just need to warn them. And if you ever see a stolen image of me somewhere, guest, then please tell my owner about it, she appreciates that a lot.
Me, me, me, me... and me! Purrr....
Aren't they the best?!!! I love all of them! If you click on them, then you can see where they came from, and maybe even adopt your own! But mine are the best ones, ofcourse ^^ Sadly some adoptables become red crosses, because their artists pull them down without telling my owner that she should save the images herself. What a waste! If you have made me a custom and it isn't up here... tell me, then I'll go chew on Ozz's arm untill she puts it up here... -blocked--blocked--blocked- -blocked-Xy, my sis... bro... uhm... well, Xy is the lab pet in the family. Dora, White Draik of the Raoichi Clan and one of my best friends! She owns Bandit, Paint's Faellie buddy, and is a Clan leader.
Kori is my sister, a Baby Kougra, but not quite the avarage kind...
Sephirosu is an ancient dark Purple Draik, and he is kinda scary... but fair. He's also one of the Clan leaders!
Harffel is the first island Draik ever, and is great company. Go visit her island paradise sometime!
These links will take you to Draiks that I just know, they are not my (Keeranu's) 'close friends'. I really admire their petpages (pretty pictures!), and I think you should go take a look at them if you have the time! Oh, and dont ask my owner if she could put your linkie here. She likes to pick the sites herself, and does not respond to neomails asking for a spot amongst these links. -blocked-

And these links will take you to petpages of Draiks that belong in the Draik Clan. Enjoy!

I haven't won any Beauty Contest yet, because Ozz hasn't even entered me before! Sigh... Other awards? Which ones are there... Gourmet Club? No WAAAY! I wont be able to fly if I get that fat! Pet or Petsite Spotlight awards? Nah, again, Ozz has never even entered me... she always says that we wouldn't win anyway. Petsite awards from other people? Hmmm... now THAT's a good idea! I haven't won any myself, but I'd love to hand them out! There must be a lot of pets out there that deserve trophies but have none... hmmm... I wonder if Ozz will make a few for me. I'm gonna go ask! I hope to see you again later, bye! Yay! You made it to the end of this extra-long site! Teehee! You know what would be fun? Start at the top again! Don't forget to sign my Guestbook before you leave, guest!
