FIRE;

There are two types of fire. Often people assume that flames are equivalent to destruction. And often, they are right. Fires burn houses, kill plants, hurt people. They can reduce a perfectly constructed building into a pile of ash in mere seconds; they can sweep away a lifetime of colorful memories in photo albums and scrapbooks and turn them into a dark black mess.

And because of this, fires have become synonymous with fear. We put smoke alarms up to prevent possible suffering from their combustion. We practice the "stop, drop, and roll" method as if the fire - which does not discriminate against race, color, or creed - will be frightened of this barbaric dance and back away. But as hard as we try, one spark can still change everything.

Fire is uncontrollable.

Now, what were to be if we coupled this strong-willed fire with the other type? The other fire is an internal fire in all of us - but in some it burns brighter than others. It is passion, motivation, and courage; it is the driving fore behind actions and it sets hearts ablaze with emotions and intensity.

It is the mix between these fires - the danger and the daring, the willfulness and the courageousness - that can produce an extraordinary being.

With flames of both types both inside and out, Kearrie the fire poogle is that being.

The Beginning

This was no scientific experiment gone wrong - there was no chemical X, no explosion, no mad scientist responsible for her origin.

Kearrie just came, as did millions of other little poogles. But there was something different about her, and that was clear from the very beginning. She was isolated, not by shyness, but by the exact opposite. Kearrie, outspoken, outgoing, opinionated, and precocious, never knew acceptance. She had at times struggled to find it, often searching so desperately that she lost part of herself, but she always came back to her true colors.

Few, if any, could figure out how she managed this. In all honesty, being persecuted every day - hated by people you don't even know - could ruin you. But Kearrie was never extinguished. Some attribute this to an inner confidence and security, but that's only part of the reason. Kearrie survived the pain and suffering because of that fire; burning within her, refusing to be quenched, it allowed her to be herself even though she often had to be alone because of it.

To the haters, here's the one thing that you should consider first:
You'll never get the best of her, but you can get the worst

Her emotions were not invincible, however, so Kearrie originally survived with anger, another product of the willful fire she possesses. Crossing her is unforgivable; either with her or against her, you must follow whichever side you choose. Because if you were for her and now aren't, then you take a bit of her fire from her; and although it will burn brighter again inside, she'll never trust you again.

And if you hated her and then liked her, you are making her question her core belief: If she is meant to be alone, and struggle through the joys of her unusual success, then how can you find enough kindness to give her? Kearrie's suspicion will bubble over and probably ruin your attempt at friendship

These characteristics developed in Kearrie's youth served to define her, and provide the beginning of her incredible story.

Today

Surrounded by people who understand and even value her unique fire, Kearrie has blended into a more peaceful existence. Her personality traits find use now - her intelligence makes conversation with Daiyse natural; her temper and quick wit make play matches with Iaxxo a breeze.

Remarkably, though, Kearrie's family also accepts her shortcomings - the very factors that caused her past persecution are ones valued in her new home. But, like everyone, Kearrie has days where she becomes the hatred that had tormented her for so long, lamenting on experiences lost and taking that frustration out on other people.

She's come so, so far, but can Kearrie ever truly be "normal"? The flames remain both on her back and in her heart, and as the old saying goes, "You can take the poogle out of the fire, but you can't take the fire out of the poogle.

Certainly, Kearrie's out of the fire - away from the neopets who sought nothing but her pain and triumphed at her tears. But her intense passion - formerly used to defend herself - now has no use.

Where can she find an outlet for this internal flame?
That's the question we all must answer. But while we wait, Kearrie slips into a life of enjoyment and, frankly, a paradise compared to what she went through before.
