Love

Love.. I don't believe I could ever get close enough to someone to actually feel that. And if I did I would probably be to scared of the emotion, and run back to my shell. Yes, sometimes I wish I had someone I could be close to one when scared, and have someone to help me up when I'm down. Yet this doesn't seem to be something I will be feeling soon, if ever. For I am not really one to appeal to the others, nor do I stick around long enough to what they think.

Past
The night winds blew through the empty forest. The squeals of pups could be heard, and there eager father waiting outside the den. His temper rising, as he growled, pacing in front of the entrance. His fully black coat mixed into the shadows of the night, and only his dark brown eyes could be seen. His head lowered into the den, and then saw his mates approval. Rolling his eyes he stumbled into the den, growling lightly at the two small being pressed against his mate, Taya. " We have one boy, and one girl, Mukonu." She spoke barley above a whisper, as the drain of energy during the birth kicked in. He eyed the pups. Easily he saw his boy. He was going to be the star in the family. The big strong male. Then the girl came into his eyes. What was he supposed to do with that?

The pups moved across the ground, sniffing and searching for there mother. Taya, smiled and pulled them closer, her silver fur covering the small beings. Her eyes were settled on Mukonu. A growl escaping her jaws. She would get away, she told herself. Her and her young. She took her chance at running when he left to hunt. She ran both Kara, and Tuno hanging by the nape that was held in her jaws. She moved. She tripped, and could hear the growls from the den. In a quick move she scooped up Tuno, leaving Kara behind.

His steps came closer, and the pup huddled in the back of the den. Her tail tucked between her shaking legs, and her big blue eyes resting on the black hellion. Her body shook madly, and her father began to speak. She couldn't hear his words. Only the curses he yelled at her. She was a bad girl. She told herself that over and over. She deserved to be punished. A paw swipe, and she fell to the hard ground. Her body felt numb, and she tried to hide within her own body. Her eyes closed, and she saw what she thought was her mother. Stroking her fur back. Nuzzling her. Her soft words still rung Cleary in her ears. Then she felt the ground move, and her side hit against the wall. With growling curses her father began to walk out.

She cuddled into her own body, crying silently. Her body shook with every breath, and it felt as if someone was sticking daggers into her lungs as she did so. The cut she had received the other day in her mouth reopened, bigger then before. The blood mixed saliva escaped her parted lips, as she heaved in the air, tears falling down her cheeks. A small pool of blood began to form, staining her chest, stomach and tail. She sniffled and continued to whimper.

Shut up!" her fathers voice bellowed, and kara held her breath, the soft patter of her tears and blood gave of gentle echoes in the den. Her father stood before the den entrance covering the entire place in shadows. She began to shake as he moved closer, the shadows growing around her. He growled and pressed his paw against her spine, pushing her towards the hard ground. She send out a squeal, and with a satisfied grin the male walked out.

The shadows moved around her. Creature hiding within there depths. Things that would come and hurt her, her father said. Things that wanted her to die because she was a bad girl. She watched the shadows of the den close in on her, and heard her imagination make hissing sounds, growls, and cackles. She curled her tail over her face, and closed her eyes. To weak to get up

It continued.. The beatings became more often more brutal. And now she didn't even know what she had done. Day after day she cowered within the den. Afraid of being out where her father is, but still afraid of the Things That lived in the dark. He father sometimes would play tricks on her. Standing in front of the entrance, covering all the light. She would gasp for air then, feeling their fangs scraping against the raw skin. Then she would cry out in fear, and be battered by her father for not staying silent as he pleased.

She laid curled within her body, as the swipes came, and pounding of his paw onto her back. She now would just stay still, and sink into her own body. It all seemed as if she was watching him beat her from the side lines. Watching his grin of pleasure, with every strike he made. Every droplet of blood the fell from her body. He then shoved her as if she was nothing, and she was nothing to him. Her body rolled limply over the ground, the rough stone floor peeled at her skin, taking bits of it away. She hit the wall, and merely watched now. No tears feel down her face anymore. She was out of them now. Her father chuckled and left the den once more. Her large blue eyes watched the den opening as he moved away. She then new, she had to escape. Soon she had to leave this place, or she would surely die.

With her last ounce of strength she pushed her body up. And took a small step forward. The agony of pain took over the pups body, throwing her to the ground. She let out a single cry for help, and then laid on the ground. Her body covered within her own tang blood, her wounds sending shots of excruciating pain through her body. Another coat of water flushed her eyes, and she began to cry. Blood began to pour out of her mouth, as if it were a waterfall, and her body laid on it's right side. Her head fell to the blood soaked ground, as she closed her eyes. Wishing. Hoping.

She took on the next weeks of pain. Trying not to waste her strength on crying, nor gasping for air. Her father left for the afternoon hunt, and he would be gone for a long time. He always was now since winter had set. He had just left, yet his voice was a constant echo in her ears. If you run. I'll find you. I'll find you no matter what. And once I do.. he never finished it but gave her one of his deadly smiles. She shook her head, but the voice remained, as did the never ending taunts. She was the reason her mother was gone, the reason she was being punished now, she would never live up to be anything. The list dragged on and on, and she had it implanted in her head that it was true. All true. The reason for her mothers leaving, the punishments.. She even believed she would be nothing, and believed that what he was doing would help her in the future.

She shook her head once more, and pushed up. Her legs began to ache, and wobbled under the sudden impact of weight. But no matter what he told her, she wanted out. She would rather be nothing, then have any more help. She moved her paws, and collapsed. She pushed up again, and once more fell again. Once more she pushed up. Her body wobbled as it moved closer.. She pulled up and out of the den. The snow was raining hard to her luck, and would cover her tracks, and soften her scent.

She began to move faster, pushing her body to it's limps. Small splatters of blood hit the snow, melting it, as she kept her gasping breaths low and quiet. She kept on moving forward, forward. Following the way her mother had taken a year ago. She turned her head back and saw nothing, but when she turned back forward her nose pushed against a canine skull. Slowly disintegrated bone, laid around it prodding out of the ground. Now tears filled her eyes. Her mother.. She never got far did she? She licked the snow covered bone, and then nuzzled it. "Mum.." She spoke in raspy way. The tears choking her, as she tried to cough them out.

With one last look at her mother she shut her eyes tight and began to run. Or tried at least. Her heart pounding against her chest, shortening her breath even more. Tears flew down her cheeks, as she started to really run. Energy slowly restoring into her frail body.

Her body tucked into the small hole at the tree's roots, as he eyes watched the rain fall. Her heart thudded against her chest and she cringed at every little sound. She sat in the shadows, eyes closed, as she tried to ignore the hissing of the monsters. Her eyes flew open as she heard a splash of water, and watched from her hole. Was it her father? Was he looking for her? Her answer was soon replied, and she curled closer to herself. He was there, moving right by her. His heavy paws hit the water, as she held in her breath. Thank god for the rain. It melted her tracks in the snow, and it hid her scent from the beast.

The black hellion moved slowly looking through the trees, and pushing past every bush. With a growl he turned and wandered forward. Searching. Looking. She let her breath out, and took small little breaths to restore the oxygen to her lungs. Another splash and she saw paws move. But there were different. Small famine paws. Also they were black like her father but a soft brown. She watched the creature move and with a jolt she popped out of the hole, and went towards the female. True, she didn't know who she was, but she couldn't do worse to her then her father. The female looked down and tilted her head.

And who might be, little one?" She questioned softly, a smile creasing her lips. At the sign of her smile she began to cry once more. Her body shook and she pushed herself against the females paw. With a arched brown, she looked to the small creature. Easily she saw her scabs, and the already formed scars. With a small gasp she picked the pup up by the nape and turned on her heels, returning to her den. My won't her son be surprised. Instead of bringing food she brought home another pup.

Kentun!" She called into the den, and looked around, setting Kara down. " You stay here, okay dear?" She spoke, and the pup nodded. She smiled warmly and walked to the back of the den searching he pup. Kara looked around, and smiled. This place seemed to different. For one, there was no blood stains on the ground, nor on the walls. There was no stench of her father, and it felt warmer. But like so many other places it was dark. Darker then it was out side in the night storm. As she felt the fangs move down her skin, and jumped. Then the warm voice of the female rang through her ears. She walked towards her, a small black pup at her heels.

Kara looked at the pup and tilted her head. He seemed familiar, and oddly smelt familiar too. She took a step forward, and then took two steps back. " Dun worry dear. He won't bite." She said softly and nudge him. He liked up to her and then back to the cowering being before him. And like her he couldn't help but to realize the scent seemed to familiar. And there looks weren't far from each others. Una, the female, looked to them and then walked behind kara, giving her a nudge with her paw. " Come. It's warmer more inside." And also darker. Kara thought as she stuck close to the female.

They settled down. Kara in front of the mother, and her pup. " I'm Una. And this is Kentun, Kent for short." She spoke with her grin, and Kent grinned with her. " I'm.." Her raspy voice escaped her lips, and she shook her head. " I'm Kara." She spoke gently. The females jaw dropped, and her eyes grew wide. Her tail stopped swaying across the ground, and she could hardly breath. " Kara.. As In Taya and Mukonu s daughter?" She spoke, watching the pup with disbelief. Kara tilted her head. " I.. He is my da." She said simply, and the females eyes swelled with tears. She stretched out her paw, and kara cringed for a moment, until she felt the females Chest against her face. Her tears feel onto Kara's forehead and she continued to weep.

Kara.." She said her name in a whisper and then closed her eyes shut. Her sisters pup. She was alive, she was alive. She repeated the phrase in her head, and then licked Kara's forehead. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry Kara." She muttered and then looked to Kent. " Babe, remember when I told you of your real mother. And that you had a sister." With a nod, she pushed kara towards him. "This is her." kara watched her 'brother', and now knew why he seemed familiar. She used to cuddle against him, when she heard her fathers curses towards her mother. So that meant she was coming back for her. She was coming back, but he got to her. Tears instantly sprang up to her eyes and she buried her face into Una.

For the next couple of weeks she was living her fairytale. Her and her brother spent every second together, and Una showed her the love she always wanted. The snow had melted and spring was there. The flowers blooming, and the scent of new life surrounded her. The spring rains came and went as they pleased, watering the grounds, and helping life.

Kent, and Kara cuddled against each other as Una left the den, going to find food for the two. Her paws were quick over the muddy ground, as the winds picked up, spraying the rain water in her face. She grinned, enjoying the feeling until she felt a sudden pain go through her. She stood frozen in her tracks, and fell to the ground. Jaws clamped on her neck, and claws stuck through her skin. Muko smirked and pulled away. She was with her. He sensed it the day before when he saw her walk by. He growled lightly, and turned on his heels following her tracks back to the den. Una laid on the ground, lifeless, eyes open in fear, and blood slowly leaking from her body, into her muddy paw prints.

Kara woke up, as a scent filled her lungs. It was dark. Oh so dark. She then saw the pair of brown eyes in the shadows. Nudging Kent she pulled up and moved back. Muko looked at his son and smiled. " So this is were you were hiding all this time, eh?" He said to kara, and as well as to Kent, growling. " What did I tell you about bad girls Kara? Didn't I say they deserved to be punished.?" He snapped at her. The fur on his neck bristling, and her claws scraping against the ground. Kara meekly nodded her head, "yes, da. They do." She spoke in a trembled whisper. Her body shook violently, as Kent stepped in front of her. " No. leave her alone!." he shot out, and Muko growled ferociously. " So. Your going to protect that thing behind you then?" He spoke and lashed out at Kent. He swung his paws and there was a faint crack, and the pup slid across the ground, hitting his head on the wall.

Kara watched him. Waiting. Waiting for him to move, to stand, to breath. Nothing. He stayed still, blood racing out of the temple, his body twisted in unnatural positions. Kara now cried harder then ever before. She lost her only sibling. Her family. And she felt the rush of anger rise up. But the anger soon turned towards fear. He was back, and he was standing in front of her. Watching her with those eyes that seemed to always pry into her body and make her feel like nothing, and she was a bad girl. Her tail tucked between her shaking legs as he moved closer his paws strides small and soft but to her he was running, and the found trembled under his every step. She pushed back to the wall and he grinned down to her. "Now look what you have done Kara." he said and shook his head in disappoint meant. " you ran away and hurt me deeply. Then you hurt your new family." He said and pushed Kent's lifeless body back with his hind paw. "It's all your fault." She nodded and believed him once more. Tears filled her eyes and she collapsed, heaving in the air.
