It was forbidden for ordinary people to enter - only the emperor and government officials were allowed inside; thus the name Forbidden City. It was the home of twenty-four emperors before being abandoned in 1900. Yellow was the royal color and nearly all buildings inside have yellow-glazed rooftops. Today, it is actually the largest palace in the world - making up an amazing 150,000 square meters.
