Quad and Anthro appearance:
(Drag and drop into URL; will make nicer ref when time permits)

Her expresion is usually reserved. She never shows extreme emotion on one end or the other except in the company of those she's comfortable around. Most commonly: mildly annoyed, smug, and bored.

Personality: Jynx is at first a bit rough around the edges. While usually calm and composed, if you hit the wrong nerve with her she can be quick to anger and slow to cool. She speaks her mind and has no qualms with telling you just what she doesn't like about you. Her humor is on the sardonic side and something she enjoys using often. Though she doesn't always intend on being hurtful and rude, she has trouble holding her tongue in most situations.

Although she claims to be unintelligent and almost never tries in school (she's a B-student but never dares to take anything more than the required courses), she has a certain amount of wit and street-smart on which she's able to get by on.

She has a laissez-faire philosophy on the world; other than making crude remarks about faulty plans, she prefers to stay out of their way and do her own thing. She prides herself in her independence, but deep down she enjoys others' company more than she would like others to know.

Jynx projects an outward appearance of someone unapproachable and apathetic to those around her. She fears rejection and rarely has relationships outside of casual acquaintances. Seldom will you see her embarrassed. She is honest with her opinion of others as she is honest with her opinion of herself; tending to point out her own faults before someone else can get a chance to. The only things she will hold back from others are strangely the things she holds most dear about herself (she could never stand for those things to be ridiculed). As a result of this she never speaks of her collection or of her parents.

.story

Before I begin, I must warn you against any preconceived notions you might have of me and my life. I am no storyteller so don't expect anything fantastic other than the bare facts and my occasional opinions of them. My story is no grandiose tale of magic and prophecies or a tale which ends in some sort of triumph on my part—it's actually quite sad. That being said, I am not an unhappy person but I'm not happy either. I'm also not very smart. I just like to pretend I know 'big words' because in all honestly makes me feel better than you. Please don't correct my grammar, I will bite you (Spooki's writing is free game however).

To sum it all up: I am just a content, a bit shameless, and, from first glance, pretty average girl. Unless from first glance you thought I was a boy. That has happened a few times before...

Anyway you must think I'm boring at this point and I would probably have to agree. But before you turn away, I have to mention I have a few er...quirks.

Ugh, I hate that word.

I have a few likings to things people may consider odd. One of these should be classified as more of an obsession. According to Grandma, that's what makes me special.

...or whatever.

I'll stop rambling.

If you haven't skipped over this section yet for whatever reason, maybe you generally interested in what I have to say or [most likely] have nothing better to do, I'll start.

Mommy, I would whimper at her bed side, I had a bad dream.

There would be tears rolling down my face and shivers going through my body, just like any four year old who had just had a 'bad dream'. To the average four year old, I suppose getting eaten by the boogieman would be just above not getting that candy they wanted at the grocery store in their list of worries.

My mother, in typical motherly fashion, would then proceed to tell me it's all right. She would wrap her arms around me and hush me; envelop me in her warmth and sweet scent. And as I begun to settle down, she would sing to me. Her voice...was probably one of the most beautiful things in the world I have ever heard or will ever hear. Even singing the most inane of nursery rhymes she could sound like an angel. I am jealous of her in that aspect. The most my singing will ever hope to inspire is an angry mob.

Funny now that I think about it, but my mom had been so young and uncertain at the time. But I was much younger and blinded by my adoration and dependency of her. Even when she began to cry during those lullabies of hers, I could only think of how wonderful and brave she was. Only a truly brave person would be able to search out the monsters under my bed without hesitation.

...she had tried so hard to hold it all together once it had fallen apart.

Spooki: Seeing that story probably won't be finished in time, here's a (bad) summary of what hasn't been written yet. This summary will shrink and eventually disappear once the story is complete. :')

Summary: Jynx's mother and father meet in the hospital. Her mother has been sickly from birth and her father has suffered a broken leg from when he slipped on a hiking trip. Although he is released before her, her father continues to return to the hospital to bring her mother flowers while she recovers. They soon fall in love and when her mother is healthy enough to be released from the hospital, they are wed. Jynx is born soon after but has underdeveloped wings due to a side affect of the medications her mother is receiving. Jynx's wings become the source of cruel jokes when she begins going to school later.

Other than that, they live semi-happily together for four years until her father, a career solider, is sent away to fight. Jynx barely remembers her father but his memory is kept alive to her through his letters. He always sends two letters: one for her mother and one for Jynx that her mother reads to her. One day the letters stop coming and they are eventually notified by the military that her father is missing in action.

Jynx's mother sinks into depression for awhile but her spirits are brought back up by her daughter. Unfortunately her illness, once thought to have been cured by the treatment she was receiving, gets worst. Her hospital visits gradually become more commonplace but she lives for another six years before succumbing to her illness (much longer than was predicted by the doctors).

Jynx is sent to a series of foster homes but no one is willing to keep her. She's an angry and unruly child. She believes that the world is unfair for taking both her mother and father from her and for giving her small wings that the other children make fun of. She ignores her foster parents and picks fights with other kids. Eventually she joins a small band of troublemakers and earns the nickname 'Jynx' (because her multiple failures she caused before proving herself to them). She requests to be called Jynx from now on.

One morning, after sneaking out from her latest foster home, she runs into a certain gnorbu. She quickly learns that the other girl's name is Nelle and that she doesn't like Nelle. Nelle's grandmother soon arrives on the scene before Jynx can leave and offers to buy both girls an ice cream. Jynx accepts the offer and while she eats her ice cream, Nelle's grandmother is able to pry most of her story from her. She decides to adopt Jynx, much to the grarrl's surprise, and immediately goes talk it over with the foster parents.

Jynx is officially adopted into the Cure family. She discovers that Grandma Cure has a large property she inherited from her late husband. Knowing her love of plants, he had a nursery built on the property for her birthday. Jynx explores the property, avoiding her new family whenever she can, but gradually is drawn in by curiosity. She approaches Grandma Cure while she's tending to the plants and hesitantly asks a few questions about the plants. Grandma Cure answers her questions and more, Jynx relaxes a little, and soon Jynx is working alongside her new grandma. Although she'll never forget her parents, she learns to move on with her life. However she goes a little overboard with starting completely anew. Nagging her grandma and Nelle to call her 'Jynx' instead of 'Ai' isn't enough and she cuts and bleaches her hair. She keeps two locks the same length however, unable to fully cut the hair her mother loved so much.

Later on, while trimming the roses a butterfly happens to land upon one of them. This prompts Jynx's grandma to bring up a story that her grandma told her about how butterflies are the souls of the dead. She explains she never really felt alone after her husband died and before Nelle joined the family because she believed she was always being watched over by the butterflies in the garden.

Jynx becomes obsessed with the story. As she grows older she drops the gardening to pursue more teenage interests but also develops a butterfly fetish. She begins to collect butterflies that have died of natural causes to pin to her walls. Her room becomes a sanctuary of sorts where she can think and relax in private...but at the same time a place where she never feels alone.

.family

Nelleke "Nelle" Cure: My older sister...thing. She looks nothing like me, acts nothing like me, and heck, we aren't even really related. Surprise? I guess not. What I can't figure out is how I managed to live under the same roof as her all these years. Sure, she's sweet and kind to everyone but has a head as hollow as an empty eggshell—bad metaphor, sue me. She's grandma's little angel and will do most anything to please her. I couldn't stand her growing up. My favorite way to let loose some steam back then was by stomping on her flowers because I liked to see her cry.

Needless to say, I was a very charming little girl back then.

Of course Nells did me no wrong other than be too optimistic and so vomit-inducing sugary sweet for my tastes. I admit I was very proud of her the few times she lashed back at me. We bickered a lot during our childhood—much to Grandma's amusement—but as we entered our teen years, Nells learned that ignoring me worked just as well or even better than throwing back an insult. Oh how I hate it with a fiery passion. She knows that too which is precisely why she does it.

Maybe I don't give her enough credit...who knows? All I know for certain is we share a love-hate relationship. I love her when she has enough sense to respect my privacy and hate her when she thinks that sister bonding is in order. Ugh...

Arabella "Grandma" Cure: Where do I begin on her? She was the one that took me in and brought me back up when I was down on my luck. She was the one that was patient enough with me, the one that I felt genuinely cared about me after mom died, and the one that raised me a good part of my life. The very same one I hated for over a year (hmm, I sense a trend going on here).

When she first took me in I was less than eager to refer to her as my grandma...but I had to call her something right?

I settled for the affectionate name 'old lady'. From the way her face contorted into a scowl whenever I called her that I got the distinct impression she may have not appreciated it all that much. Hey, I just call it as I see it.

Like Nells, Grandma seemed almost too wholesome a person. But unlike Nells, she had brains. Even though her property had been large enough for me to avoid her most of the day, she somehow managed to lure me into being part of the family in the end.

But...I really can't say I have any regrets. I am thankful to her and everything she's taught me: from her stupid little stories to her gardening tips. At the risk of sounding sappy, she really did show me that I still had a chance for happiness.

...I'm happy she's my grandma.

.friends

Issac "Eiaux" Emry: I guess you could call this guy my friend. Eiaux is the resident tough guy when the situation calls for it. Unfortunately that has been all but compromised the moment he applied for a job at Grandma's plant nursery. Okay, I can sympathize with it being difficult finding a job and all but you just can't take a guy seriously when he's wearing the nursery apron...Excuse me, nursery uniform. Grandma must have had a bit of a cruel streak going on the day she decided to make those mandatory.

When he's not in nursery garb, he favors his ugly fur-lined jacket. While I'm no fashion expert (half of the time I just throw on whatever I have that fits), anything that makes you look like you're wearing a fuzzy white boa should be burned. No exceptions. However, Eiaux has made it clear that he's not going to give that jacket up anytime soon. I'm still in the process of plotting on how to destroy it...

To his defense, he may have an ugly jacket but I collect dead butterflies. He learned of that from an accidental slip up from Grandma. That was the first time in years I had been absolutely mortified. While he didn't have the reaction I was expecting, he hasn't let me live that moment down. I was rewarded the nickname "Caterpillar". When I worked up enough guts to ask why, he said it was because I still had yet to become a butterfly. Who knew the guy had such a "poetic" side...Oh, and when he's feeling irritated with me or just particularly mocking, the name's "Mothra"—nice to meet you.

I can't remember how it started but every morning when Eiaux starts his shift, he tosses me a piece of white chocolate. It's all on the condition I am to keep my distance until that said shift ends. Have I mentioned I love white chocolate? Who cares if he's playing on my weakness, I'm more than happy to oblige. Grandma is grateful for our morning ritual too. Can't have him distracted while he waters daisies or whatever the heck he does.

Sometimes when he's not working, he invites me to hang out. Originally I agreed out of social necessity—I realized I had no real friends at the time—but now I'm finding that I look forward to it. He still has yet to best me at Halo.

Can't let him forget who killed friggin' Godzilla.

(Spooki: No, this isn't how Eiaux really looks. Karo, who's wonderful at character designing unlike me, has yet to give me a proper ref. So for now you'll have to settle for my sparkly, pale green, pink boa-wearing interpretation of him. ;))

.pets

Below are the pets I'll be sharing an owner with if Spooki is picked (- haha she failed!).

Amalid "Amy" Al-Nayhan: A brat. Need I say more? This kid comes from an upper-middle class family and is spoiled to no end. I'm told the rest of her family are pretty agreeable people but somewhere along the line they failed by babying their youngest daughter. But hey, that's just my opinion. I hate kids. I'm sure if you look past the constant whining, shouting, and immaturity she's a pretty decent girl.

Nelleke Cure: As mentioned before, Nells is my adoptive sister and Grandma's blood-related granddaughter. She took up Grandma's love of gardening, specifically tending to flowers, and sells bouquets at the mall in her free time. I heard she didn't have the best of a childhood either but was too young for any of it to really affect her. Still I'd hope she isn't so oblivious to her surroundings to not notice her parents aren't there. Sometimes I wonder if that 'always happy' air she puts on isn't just a front. This may just be me playing the role of pesimist, but I really don't think anyone can be that happy all the time.

Saguru Hakuba: I'll be honest. I don't know too much about him other than he likes helping his dad by doing volunteer investigation work and he's weird. Either way I don't need to know more, I think that's enough reason to avoid him.

Ruo Mei Ruan: You don't want to get on this woman's bad side. She's not the kind of person that would outwardly snap at you per say...she's the kind of person that is bat crazy enough to dedicate the rest of her life making your's miserable. And on the contrary, when you're on her good side, she'll gladly fake sweetness. When she knows what she wants, she'll do anything she can to take it. I can't stand people like her. But...there's something that bothers me about her. She seems off. And I feel like I've seen her somewhere before...

Amane Seimori: Sweet little girl. She can usually be found hiding her face behind someone's leg, hiding her face behind her doll, or hiding her face in a book. She doesn't talk much unless she needs to and when she does you find out she has a minor speech impediment that somehow only makes the kid sound more adorable. I can almost overlook the fact I don't like kids for her. Almost. Don't think I'll be offering to take up babysitting her anytime soon.

Ran Seimori: For those of you skimming this part and not really paying attention (yes, you), she shares the same last name with the xweetok girl above in this section. I don't know what their relationship is to one another but I thought I'd like to point that out. Back the Seimori in question, she faintly reminds me of Nells...a more subdued and sad Nells. Okay, not the best of comparisons considering I just totally contradicted myself by saying that but you get the point. She's nice, pretty patient, girlish, and absolutely frustrating to me. Why? I'm not sure. Maybe it's because, like Nells, I can't seem to figure her out.

That kid: writing...

Mirembe: she doesn't even exist yet :D check back later

.game

Everyone likes games, right? Well goodie. I got game for you.

If you didn't already notice this page looks like someone threw up butterflies all over it. But not all of these butterflies are just decoration—there are five hidden throughout the page. Clicking on these butterflies will bring you to an extra section. These sections may include: short stories, pictures, or facts.

Here's the different butterflies you'll need to find:

1. Black butterfly
2. Red butterfly
3. Green butterfly
4. Blue butterfly
5. Orange butterfly

Pretty simple, huh? Still I have a feeling that giving you the benefit of the doubt and saying you're smart enough to figure it out on your own will only cause problems. To avoid any confusion, I'll walk you through the first one:

See that butterfly on my head? (Yes, butterfly. I don't wear hairclips.) Click it.

........

Ta-da~! You should be so proud of yourself. Phew, clicking is such hard work. Anyway you can cross number one (the black butterfly) off your list now.

Think you can handle finding the other four? Go get 'em champ.

.comic

Wonderful...I'm surrounded by weirdos. Is this how Alice felt after entering Wonderland?
I guess my personal 'white rabbit' decided one day it'd be fun to make me question my sanity by dropping
by in the form of myself as a little girl. How thoughtful. The best part is that it only gets weirder from there...
Just who the heck is that kid that shows up in my house? Doesn't anyone use the doorbell anymore?! And what
does he have to do with that creeper woman?
Find this all out and more below in the Jynxaii's Sh - excuse me - Terrific Adventures! End sarcasm and exit stage left.

Adoptables to be here :)

Adoptable concepts:
- Pinned butterflies colored to match pets' designs.
- Pinned (by sleeves) anthro adopts.

.credits

- A big thanks to Karo, I can't even begin to say how helpful you were in helping brainstorm Jynx's personality and background story. To answer your question: yes, Jynx would make fun of Eiaux for watching NCIS. :|

- And to Keruha, another big thanks for helping sort out all my layout and coding issues! Especially helping me stay mostly sane through the application process. Haha.

- And to Dragon, thank you for being so amazing and helping me out in the musical department. Without you Jynx's page would still be stuck with an instrumental rap song. xD;

- And to everyone on Neopound that commented on my board. I know I said this already and I'll say it again, I reeeaaaallly appreciated the suggestions, critiques, and even compliments. They helped me make this page presentable while also helping to boost what little self-confidence I have.

- Finally, thanks to Erica for putting Jynxai up for adoption. :) If you hadn't I wouldn't have been inspired to create this pet in the first place. Even though I didn't win (lol), thanks regardless.

Random Fact 1 out of 4: Although Jynx claims to be undefeated at Halo, she's not better than Eiaux at video games.

She's better at cheating than he is. ;)

Random Fact 2 out of 4: Jynx believes that the souls of departed take the forms of butterflies. She's half right in this case: the real souls/butterflies are not tangible and cannot be seen by just anyone. If only she knew her friend Eiaux is one of those few that can see them...and is one of the lesser few that actually attracts them.

Random Fact 3 out of 4: Jynx has a mild case of nosocomephobia. Ever since her mother died, she avoids hospitals at all costs. If for any reason she has to go to one she is extremely uneasy.

Random Fact 4 out of 4: Unlike Jynx's mother, her father is still very much alive. ;) His story and their reunion may play out in later plots.
