Lesson Plan

We will be covering the basics first, skimming the very top of Herbology. I strongly advise you acquire diligent studying habits and consistency with homework now, for we will quickly move on to more challenging homework once 2nd Term ends!

Grading Criteria

Average Questions = 2 house points
Extra Credit = 5 house points
Parchment = 25 house points per 1/4
Assessment = (it's a surprise :3)

Most of the time our class will only have small assessments, tentatively halfway through each term. Major assessments will take place at the end of each term. All assessments will comprise of regular questions, surprise bonus questions (I do not tell you which ones these are), and questions for which parchment may be required.

Homework

For your first homework, I will be giving one large assignment due to the fact that I will not be teaching class July 8th-15th (Professors are just as busy as their students!). This assignment will count for two weeks' work, so I suggest that you do not forget to do it as it is very valuable and will cost your House twice as many housepoints if left incomplete! Don't fret, my young scholars! The assignment will be fairly easy as it would be unjust of me to give a difficult assignment while I am gone. This assignment will be due the 17th. Because I will be utterly unable to collect your scrolls until then, please turn in your assignments precisely on the 17th.

The assignment is to identify the meanings of the following ten symbols:
1. buoy
2. axe
3. claw
4. dragonfly
5. eggs
6. falcon
7. gondola
8. harp
9. ivy
10. unicorn

*If you find that one symbol has more than one meaning, it is best to list every possibility.

EC: If you are looking for a challenge, this is the perfect opportunity for a valuable learning experience. Write 1/5 parchment (one paragraph) prophesying what the meaning of this tea-leaf reading would be:

You, a cousin, and two of your friends have begun to visualize all three levels of your cup and are now ready to interpret your tea-leaves as you enter the zone. You begin to appropriately read the tea-leaves clockwise from the handle of your cup, and the first pattern you see are a few scattered indiscernible leaves around the rim. Nothing else is visible around the rim, and you move on to the middle. You see a pattern that resembles an alligator, very close to the handle of the cup (this initially causes some worry, but you remember to focus and continue reading). There are a few scattered leaves here as well, and one in particular is in the shape of an ark. You move on to the base and find in a pattern of leaves the image of a bow. You move on to the rest, and see a few twigs floating around your cup, one horizontal. There are a couple of bubbles near the rim that you had not noticed while you had seen the alligator.

Hints: Identify each symbol, predict the nature of each of your guests, and predict the outcome of your future (both that moment in time, near and further away in time).

*ALL ASSIGNMENTS AND EXTRA CREDIT WILL BE DUE JULY 17TH*

Other Trusted Sites

The sites listed below are all sites that the Professor highly respects and often consults. It would do any aspiring diviner much good if s/he were to look these over or consult them when doing homework assignments. Most of your homework will require a good dictionary of symbols to be consulted, so I have provided a link to one below, but if you choose so, you may find your own. If you are a student looking to complete the Extra Credit due July 17th, you will not be able to sufficiently complete it without the help of one or more of these sites.
