Welcome guest to my guide to building your neohome.
This guide was made possible by the support of our very own city down-under, Maraquan. Well-experienced in the home-building industry, you can be sure there's nothing they don't know about building neohomes.
I'd like to apologise for the time its taken to get this page back up and running. I've been busy outside of neopets, but now I'm back and its all better again :)
Firstly you will need apply for a neohome. To do this go to the neohome main page and then onto Build a Neohome. It should say something like this:

You now have to pick a nice area for your neohome. These are the neighbourhoods of your choice (you're street is chosen randomly):
- Neopian Central(1000np)
- Mystery Island (2500np)
- Tyrannia - (3500np)
- Spooky Woods (5000np)
- Lost Desert - (7500np)
- Meridell - (8000np)
- Roo Island (4500np)
- Brightvale - (10000np)
- Maraquan - (11000np)
- Terror Mountain - (15000np)
- Faerieland - (25000np)
Here is what the plots in each location looks like on the ground floor (first and second floor all have the same sky background). According to the news Speaking of Neohomes, Lost Desert residents will be happy to hear the look of their plots has been updated to better match the surrounding neighborhood.
However, as yet I havent seen any difference. I'll keep you posted:

Here are some tips on how to start building your neohome. Before you start building rooms I suggest you find a piece of paper and design your house layout. This is because once you've built a room, you cannot get a refund. If you make a mistake you can demolish the room, but you won't get your money back. If you are going to destroy a room make sure there are no items inside, as they will also be lost.
So, now with you piece of paper, you will need to ask yourself several questions
- How many rooms do you want?
-
- Will there be another floor?
-
- Where do you want your garden to be?
-
- What types of rooms would you like (e.g. kitchen, bedroom)?
-
- What material best suits this?
-
You can experiment with different ideas on your paper. You may want a tower, or a maybe a courtyard. You may want your rooms to spell out a letter or shape. Whatever you want, its helpful to design the house first, choosing which rooms you need and where they should go.
Remember When choosing the position of the doors of each room (see later on) to make sure you can get into each room somehow. Also remember to clear your room of all its furniture if you need to demolish it.

To add to room or garden go onto the neohome main page and then click on Add/Remove/Rename Room or Garden
And then choose the room types and where your doors (exits) will be. Remember to stick to the plan, and make sure you've clicked on the right plot of land.
The more expensive the room, the longer it will take to build. To check on how much longer, go to Building Status.
You can't build more than one room at a time so building the rooms may take a few days.

Once you've build on room you can now name it (so when you put furniture in it you'll know which room is which - next section). To do this you have to go to and click on the room.
In the box Room Name write the name you want your room to be (e.g. kitchen, dining room). You can also choose a room type (but this isn't vital).

Extensions
Now we will cover the extensions you can add to your house. These extensions appear on your userlookup, however don't the appearance of your rooms/gardens.
You need a certain amount of rooms built for each type of extension (e.g. lighting, central heating) - this does not include gardens. However it also costs more, the more rooms you have (the price is worked out per room). This means you may want to do all you extensions first - once you have enough rooms for the one your working on. However, having extensions does increase the cost of building another room (under extra cost due to upgrades).
Here are the extensions you can have:

Aswell as the shops, you can also get items from:
|
|
 |
| Shop Wizard
| Auctions
| Trading Post |
Always check the wiz on the prices of the items. This way you know what the amount is you should spend on it. The shops are good for rare items, but not all items. Keep checking and refreshing the shop daily. You'll notice certain items stay in the shop much longer and hardly disappear. Those are the items better bought somewhere else (unless you can get a good bargain from it). However, if something rare such as a beauty bed appears - buy it! Don't worry about bargaining - you'll be lucky to get it in time.
You can get good deals at the auctions for some items - however, its not everyone's favourite way of getting items. If you're good at getting deals at the auctions, thats the place for you. If not, no matter. There are other places.
The trading post is especially good for furniture. Just remember to check the wizard for prices. You may be able to get a good deal from it. For some items you may have to use the trading post, as some of the furniture items are unbuyable (meaning they are priced 100,000np or above...)
If all else fails you can buy the item from the wiz - just keep refreshing for the best deal.

Ok, once you've bought the items you want, they'll appear in your inventory. You now need to click on the item you want, and scroll down to the room you want it in:
You can then go to you room by going to View or Arrange Room or Garden and clicking on the room you want to view close up on the map. It should look something like this:
Here is what you need to know about arranging the furniture:
View Instructions - This is where it tells you all you need to know on how to arrange you furniture (basically repeating all I am saying here):
View Room info - Gives you a display of that rooms information and settings
Save Room - Permanently saves the current version of your room, including where all of your furniture is placed
Print Room - Prints out a picture of the room you are currently in
Reload Room - Reloads the last successfully saved version of your room
View Room Info - Displays the information and settings for an item of furniture that you've selected. You are the only one who can edit the settings of your room.

Name - the name of an item
Description - An items description
Cost - Current cost of an item
Weight - How much the items weighs
Locked ('L' key) - Lock/Unlock. Locking an item allows you to hold it in its current position
Action ('A' key) - Once an item has been selected, pressing this button will allow you to turn that item "on" or "off". Keep in mind, though, that this item only works with a few items, like certain kinds of lamps.
Rotation('[' & ']' Keys) - Pressing these keys will rotate your selected item by ninety degrees. Holding down the shift key will allow you to rotate in smaller increments
Depth ('†' & '-' Keys) - Pressing these buttons enables you to raise or lower a selected item. This is an ideal way, for example, to place a rug beneath a sofa. Holding down the shift key allows you to change the depth of a selected item in large increments
Position (Up, Down, Left, & Right Arrow Keys) - Pressing these keys will allow you to move your selected item around the room. Holding down the shift key enables you to change position in large increments.
To remove items from the room (or garden) just press Go to Remove Items from Room and click on the item(s) you want to remove (they will go straight to your inventory).

If you don't have enough np, you don't have to save up for weeks, just to buy an oven for your kitchen. You can improvise. For instance, a stone table and some stone pots can be made into an oven. You can also improvise for items that aren't for sale - such as a tv, computer, indoor swimming pool. Experiment with items and see what you can make. You can also check out the Neohome spotlight for inspiration.

Now we will discuss your neogarden....
Working with your neogarden is basically the same as working with your neohome, but with some slight difference.
To start building a patch of garden go to Add/Remove/Rename Room or Garden. Click on the area you want to build the garden and this will pop up:

Click on build a garden at the bottom (costs you 100np), and it should bring you to this page.

It'll take up to 8 hours, and you can't do building work while its happening (this doesn't include adding and arranging furniture). But you can check up on how much time there is left on the Building Status page.
You can now name your garden - the same way you named you room. Go to Add/Remove/Rename Room or Garden, type in your name and update the room.

Ok, once you've bought the items you want, they'll appear in your inventory. You now need to click on the item, and scroll down to the garden you want it in (hence the importance of naming your gardens):
You can then go to you garden by going to View or Arrange Room or Garden and click on the garden you want on the map. You'll notice how the set-out it different from that of your rooms. You have a side-ways view instead of the birds-eye view. By dragging, forward, you make them bigger and appear closer, giving a more 3D effect.
 |
This drags the item you want around the garden.
|
|
This rotates your item (or rather, mirrors it). To make this appear hover over the item until you find it - it can be easier to find if the item is closer and bigger, the size of it changes with the size of the object.
|
At the bottom of the page you'll see an arrow:
Clicking on that arrow reveals a toolbar:
This is where you save what you have done to the layout (by clicking on save obviously). This toolbar also allows you to change the colour of the background/grass/floor (you know what I mean). You can alter the amount of red, blue and green by clicking on the † and -
To reset to the default green just press reset. The best way to get the colour you want it just to experiment. Here are some sample shades you can try and find:
|
|
Now we're going to look at exploring your neighbourhood.
With every neohome comes an address. You can find your addresss on your lookup or anywhere on the neohomes section at the top of the page.
When setting up your neohome you choose a neighbourhood and a street. To explore your street (and have peak at your neighbours houses) click browse my neighbourhood.
Alternatively you can just choose a neighbourhood, then a street, and pick a number to explore random neohomes. Neohome numbers range from around number 550 and up to 250000 (and maybe higher) depending on the popularity of the neighbourhood.
Once you've done that (for both methods), you should get a list of neohomes with the owners username and neohome number. You can either click on the username for their lookup, or on the number to go straight to their house
Here's a list of all the neighbourhoods and streets:
|
|
Thats neohomes covered. However, I can't do everything for you - its your turn now. Have fun! If you have any more questions you may find the answer here. Good luck with your neohome! May it be pirate-free!
