Bets should be dated for the next day. If they're not dated for tomorrow, then I haven't updated yet or I forgot to change the date (in the latter case, you can scold me). Normally bets are made by 6:00pm NST.
If you are new to betting, please note that you MUST make all ten bets on whoever's page you use. The bets that each better makes are meant to work in sync. Missing even one bet can make the difference between winning and losing.

How to Get a Trophy

Do not collect your winnings for 8 rounds, including rounds where you did not win any neopoints. Count the 1st round you hold as round one. Another good way to think about this is to pay attention to the day you started holding. If you started holding on a sunday, you would collect the following sunday. Once you have 8 rounds of winnings held, you need to collect before midnight of the following day. If you do not collect, you will lose round 1's winnings.
Scores can be held between months, so the best time to hold is to start around the 24th or 25 and hold until after the 1st's round. This way, you will hit the reset time, the first of each month, when all scores are cleared out. Scores tend to be lower during reset. This is especially helpful to younger accounts.
Trophy score is determined by the total neopoints won. Old accounts have an advantage for this reason, because they can bet more and win more for the same odds. The best option is to bet every day, even if the odds are poor.
If you have an older account, and already have the gold trophy please wait a day before you start holding, in order to collect on the 2nd. Food club members who are in the boards competition can state that they are holding, even if they are not, in order to allow room for new individuals to get trophies. Be kind to younger account food club members.

F.A.Q

Q. When does a round end? -or- Why are the gates closed already? -or- Why are the results early?
A. A round ends at 2:15pm NST normally. The gates close at 1:45pm NST. A major exception is around winter when Daylight Savings Time ends (fall back 1 hour). During that time bets need to be in by 1:00pm NST. Then at 1:00pm, the results will appear, and we can check/make bets for the next day. At 1:45pm NST the gates will close as they normally should, and 2:15pm NST they will re-open up. This happens every day during the winter until DST starts again.

Q. Is food club profitable?
A. Yes, for the majority of betters there is a lot of profit to be had, but it really depends on your account age as to how much you will make because older accounts can bet more. However, you must remember that it is still gambling, and there is a lot of room for a loss. Just because you lose three days in a row, doesn't mean you wont make up for that and more the following day. If you are not finding profit after awhile, try changing up your bets/strategy.

Q. Is there a lot of math involved?
A. It looks daunting, but there really isn't much math involved if you don't want there to be. If you can compare two odds and determine which odd is higher and which is lower, you are golden. Betting is really more repetition than math. Some of the players on the boards like to try to form their own mathematical equations to determine how to bet, but you really don't need to put that much effort in to make a profit.

Q. How do I learn how to bet?
A. It would be a very lengthy explanation to teach you how to bet. Consult with Revenge's Pet Page to learn the basics that most betters use. You can also use the food club board found in the games room to answer any questions you have after that. I would most recommend following someone's bets until you start picking up the repetition. If you're insecure about making your own, write down your bets on a piece of paper, and follow someone else's. Then when results come out, you can compare how you did and not lose out on the np if you didn't do well.

Q. Can I bet on a side account even if the neopoints are provided by my main and I don't bet on my main account?
A. TNT answered no to this one for us in editorial 469 question #6. Assume that this goes along with grarrl keno as well.

Dear TNT, Many of us have been wondering whether it is okay to place bets on side accounts for the Food Club. Would you mind illuminating us with your great knowledge? ~esbenkaldahl
We're gonna say no to this one, as the reason to play Food Club is to place bets and earn NP, which you shouldn't be doing on your side accounts.

Q. Is it possible to set up your bets to guarantee a win every day?
A. It's possible, but not with the way that the majority of betters do it. There are simply too many possibilities, and we only have 10 bets here. Educated sacrifices in bets will have to be made daily. If you wanted to bet to guarantee a win every day, you would have to use less arenas and adjust the amount you bet so that each bet ends up breaking you even at least. It is also likely wouldnt be as profitable in the long run.

Q. How do you make your bets?
A. Depending on the odds, I usually pick 2 or 3 arenas with an outstanding pirate. Then try to mix and match them so that as many possibilities are covered. If a pirate looks exceptionally strong (a 2.1 paired with three 13.1s), then I will use them in most of the bets.

Q. How do I calculate food adjustments? How does it play into the bets?
I am always wary of these questions, because food adjustments are already factored into the odds so you don't want to over emphasize them. In theory, pirates with more favorites should do "better" in the food club than pirates with more allergies. However, just because a pirate has more favorites, doesn't mean it will win. Strong pirates will be able to withstand allergies more than weak pirates. Pirates with 3 allergies and no favorites can and do win. Now, even if two pirates are equal in all ways except food adjustment, the one with the higher adjustment does not necessarily win. This is why we assume there is a random factor involved.
To calculate food adjustments, you have to go through the list of pirates, click on them, find their favorites and allergies, and then look at each food in their arena, look at the type of food. If the food type is a favorite, you give it a +1, if it is a food they are allergic to, give it a -1. If it is both a favorite and an allergy, like "Worm and Leech Pizza" is to Lucky McKyriggan, give it both a +1 and -1.

Q. I followed your bets exactly and my odds look different. -or- What causes the odds to change?
A. If your pirates match exactly the bets you are following but the odds don't, then it's likely the odds changed. The odds have a tendency to change throughout the day, and my bets are just a screenshot of when I bet, so they dont reflect the changes. The running theory is that odds change based on how people bet. If a lot of people bet on a pirate, the pirate's odds will drop down (3.1 to 2.1). If a lot of people are avoiding a pirate in a popular arena, the odds for that pirate will go up (10.1 to 13.1). Odds tend to change in more commonly used arenas. While this may hurt the amount we win, we can predict which pirates will go down and which will go up ahead of time, so we can make sure we cover it. 3.1s and some 4.1s will drop down, and 5.1s and up will usually rise (Occasionally a 5.1 will fall, but that isnt very common). The best way to cover these bets is to make an extra 4.1 bet when you have a 12.1 bet with 3.1s. This way, if your bets drop below 10.1, you have that 4.1 bet to back you up. Don't worry though, your bets and mine will receive whatever the final odds are, so we will all get the same odds at the end.

Q. Can I use your bet history to compare bets?
A. Sure, you can neomail me asking for it, but take all your data with a grain of salt. There are just individual differences that may skew your results. Not everyone knows what they are doing right away, and may have had a bit of losses before they started betting correctly. Some people don't bet on days where the odds are bad, and some people like me bet every day. We've compared our bets several times on the boards ourselves, and found that the majority of us come out with similar averages.

Q. Is it better to bet later after the odds change or to bet earlier? -or- Wouldn't it be more wise to bet later to see the odd changes?
A. I always bet earlier because I'm more likely to remember to bet that way, and people who copy my page like to not have to wait. Odd changes are fairly predictable and I take likely changes into consideration when I make my bets. If you feel like you should wait to see the odds to decide, that is a decision that is completely up to you.

Q. Can you add links to ...'s bets? -or- Can you link my bets to your page?
A. Sure, I like alternatives to my bets. I try to only keep regularly updated bets up though, so I'll probably take it down if they don't look like they've updated in a good while or if they request I take it down. In rare instances, I will take down betting pages if I feel there is a security risk involved that will harm me, the owner of the petpage, or any potential followers.

Q. Can you tell me who's bets are best? -or- Which bets besides your own do you like?
A. I don't really like to judge the other individuals' bets because everyone bets with a different style. Some people bet riskier, win less of the time, but when they do win, they win large. Others just want a guaranteed profit each day, so they bet safe but with low wins. If you really want to judge whos has "the best", compare their winnings each day to determine who fits your needs the best.

Q. How do I join/play the monthly competition on the boards?
A. Go to Chaquew's pet page for the rules on the competition. To get started though, post your bets on the board, or on a pet page. When you check on your win, post it on the board. If you dont post your bets on the board or petpage ahead of time, you MUST screenie the win. A big part of the competition depends on how much you hold at one time, so make sure you specify when you are holding and when you are collecting, along with what rounds you collected. You can say that you are holding even if you are not holding, as long as you keep track of that information. Remember, it is fun to win, but the results of the competition don't necessarily signify who is the best better. Some individuals are only posting to make competition for the rest, and aren't holding or participating to their best abilities. The competition restarts every month, but you can join in anytime.

Q. How do I post my bets to a pet page?
A. On the Current Bets page, right click and select "View Page Source." Hit Ctrl and F together to bring up search box. Type in "table border" in the search box. Copy the entire line for the table and paste on your pet page. Your petpage is located in the quick reference page (click on your pet to get there). Hit the drop down arrow by the pet you want and click "edit homepage". You can also do the same thing with Winnings, but remember to remove the forms tags.
