Maths Nightmare Game and Avatar Guide
Trying for the avatar? It's pretty right. If you follow these tips, then you will be well on your way to learning the game and getting that elusive avatar.
Maths Nightmare was in the BTY from 16th-22nd September 2009 (7,520 to beat Alton Moughbry) and back in the BTY 7th-13th April 2011 (7,600 to beat Ciona Broan). This meant you needed 2 clock "glitches" (for lack of a better name) and the code to beat the score in Division/Potato Counter mode. Maths Nightmare was in the BTY 2nd-7th January 2014 (5,880 to beat Imiya) and back in the BTY 7th-13th January 2015 (5,840 to beat Imiya). Some more Maths Nightmare BTY love from 11th-17th August 2016 (score unknown).
I played for 7 months before getting the avatar on December 1, 2008. Don't think you can just play a few times and get the avatar, because it's not going to happen. Ok, you got that? If you aren't willing to spend a lot of time getting this avatar, then quit now and play something else. I've heard Kass Basher is easy.
To get the avatar, you must be in the top 50 at trophy time which is currently at around 8:05pm NST (last updated 2nd October 2016). Trophy time is glitched and sometimes does not award trophies. The time that trophies are awarded also moves forward every day. The best time to try for the avatar is on reset day or the 1st of the month.

Play with Division and Potato Counter. This is the easiest as the sums repeat themselves, so you can memorise the answers. Playing in this mode also doubles your score, so if you get 2980 in the game, then your end score will be 5960. I have put the sums later in the guide so you can see them yourself.
This game is best played on a Keyboard with a number pad in the right. For Division/Potato Counter, the numbers you need are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 0. The best tip I have for you is to keep your index finger on the 2 and play a lot so you can move to the answer without looking at the numbers. The most common answers are 2 and 3. All the answers are 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 15 and 25.
Another tip is not to send all your scores at once. If you get in the 3900's, don't send it even if it will get in the top 50 early in the Neo day. Later in the Neo day, your score will be bumped off the high score table and you will have wasted one send. I always send one in the 5900's or higher and keep my other 2 sends for later in the Neo day. You can only send 3 scores per day, so use them wisely.
Put the game into Medium or Low quality mode. I got the avatar with Medium quality mode myself with my 1.6Ghz computer. I have tried High, Medium and Low quality modes and I don't see much difference between Low and Medium, but the game is faster for me in those 2 modes as compared with High.
When playing, click in the bubble and type your answer. You don't need to press enter, the bubbles will pop by themselves and the next one will show. If you type the wrong answer, double click on the number with your mouse. You can then type the correct answer over the incorrect answer without the need to look for the backspace key.
In this screenie are where the 9 bubbles will show. If you leave your game, after 5 bubbles the Babaa will fall onto the clock and wake Imiya (like below). To make this screenie, I had to join 2 screenies together. Aren't I cool?
When I got the avatar using my 1.6Ghz computer, I used the code at the start of round 7, but a lot of others I have chatted with said they used the code at the start of round 11. I have since played the game on my new 2.6Ghz computer and I can now complete round 7 without the need to use the code. If you can complete round 7 without the code and save it to use for round 11, then it will help you a lot on your way to getting the avatar.
The code is: letimiyasleep
Her name is imiya and not miya. You can use it once during your game to reset the clock.
Clock resets at the end of: round 3, round 7, round 12 and round 17.
Clock "glitches" if you are lucky and keeps going around at the end of: round 7, round 11 and round 16.
You need to be fast, you should answer each rounds 9 questions within 15 seconds. If you take longer than that, then you won't have time to complete each block of rounds.
You have rounds 4, 5, 6 and 7 to compete within 60 seconds before the clock resets for the next block of rounds, which is 8, 9, 10, 11 AND 12 (which is impossible to complete without the code or a clock "glitch" at the end of round 11).
You can't do rounds 13, 14, 15, 16 AND 17 in 60 seconds either, so you need the clock "glitch" at the end of round 16 to complete the remaining questions in round 16 and the questions in round 17.
Those people on the high score table with scores over 7000, either played Division/Brain Tree mode OR they got the clock "glitch" at the end of round 16 in Division/Potato Counter mode.
As I said earlier in this guide, here are the sums that you will need to answer in Division/Potato Counter. As you can see, they are really easy.
If you feel game enough or you are looking for a bit of a challenge, the lovely sagittabear has written up a guide with all the equations for Division/Brain Tree mode here. Using this method will also give you a higher chance to get one of these pretty trophies.
Good luck getting your avatar (and/or trophy).
