Sniping Guide

Hi :) My name is Moonie. I frequent the Help Chat a lot, so I get a lot of Neomails asking me different questions. The most frequently asked question seems to be "How do you get so many neopoints?" The answer? Very simple. I SNIPE.

What is sniping you ask? The short answer to that question is, "Searching the shop wizard for underpriced items, buying them, and reselling in your shop." Sounds easy right? Well, it can be, with a little practice and patience. :) I'm going to guide you step by step through my methods for sniping. Keep in mind that it may not work for you. Everyone is different. But, so far, I've been pretty successful!

How do I start?
The first thing you need to do, is get some points to keep on hand to snipe with. Personally, since I snipe some higher priced items, I keep 200,000np on hand when I'm sniping. If you're sniping cheaper items like codestones and dubloons, it's ok to have a bit less. :)

Step One: The Shop Wizard

A lot of people will try and tell you that it's not possible to snipe if you don't have the SSW. This is SO not true. I can't emphasize that enough. I use the regular shop wizard to snipe more than I use the SSW. It just requires a bit more patience, and more refreshing. To me, it's still the easiest way to earn points.
To snipe using the Shop Wizard, pick an item that you want to search for, and type it into the search box. Don't panic, I'm going to give you a list of items to search in the next step. ;)

The process for sniping is simple. Pick an item that you want to search for, type or paste it in the box, and search. If you want a specific item, put in the full name,a and choose 'identical to my phrase.' If you want to keep the search more broad, then just type in part of the item name, like 'codestone' or 'negg,' and leave 'containing my phrase' selected. The wiz will search all items containing the word you typed in. Just keep refreshing, and keep an eye out for items that are priced significantly lower than the others. But be careful! The shop wizard doesn't automatically find the cheapest item in the shops! You'll have to refresh a few times to find the correct selling price. Let me show you a couple of examples:

This would be a GOOD snipe! The price is VERY obviously lower than the rest.

This would be a not so good snipe. The price is lower than the one beneath it, but not by much. It's possible that they might even be cheaper in a different area of the shop wizard. You have to always do a bit of research to know exactly what items are worth. It takes practice to get a feel for it, but once you do, it's worth it. :)
Keep in mind that if you refresh the shop wizard a lot, you can get shop wizard banned. But don't worry! It's only until the beginning of the next hour. It's not like getting restock banned, that can last for days. ;)

Are you catching on now? Really easy, right? Good! Let's move on.

Step Two: The Super Shop Wizard
The Super Shop Wizard is a feature available to Premium users. If you don't know about Premium, feel free to drop me a neomail, and I'll be glad to tell you all about it!
The Super Shop Wizard instantly finds the cheapest item that you search in user shops. Sounds great, right? Well, yes, it is. But it's limited. There are some items that can't be searched using the SSW, including paint brushes, secret lab maps, nerkmids, and transmogrification potions. Also, you have a limited number of searches per hour. This is to keep things fair for users who don't have Premium. Here'a a screenshot:

I made it a little smaller to fit better on the page, but you get the point. ;) Anyway, the SSW works just like the regular shop wizard, other than the examples I explained above. Personally, I only use my SSW to snipe codestones, but it's DEFINITELY worth it.
If you wanted to snipe codestones, you would simply put the name of the codestone you're looking for into the search, and click search. If you want to broaden your searching a bit, just type 'codestone' and leave the search set to 'containing my phrase.' Then, the ssw will search all items containing the word 'codestone,' and find you the cheapest of each. :) Nice eh?
Now I bet you're wondering, "Well, Moonie, that's all well and good, but how do I know if an item is good to snipe?" The answer is, you can't stop to ponder this! You'll miss a cheap item! You have to be REALLY quick, especially with codestones. People grab them faster than you can say Meerca Chase. But, here's an example of what you should look for:

I generally don't bother trying to snipe a codestone unless it's at least 1000np cheaper than the others. But, you may want to do it differently. Are you getting the point now? Great!

Step Three: What to Snipe

Some people might think it's a bit silly for me to do this, but I'm going to give you a list of the items that I like to snipe, and that have been the most profitable for me. "Moonie! If you tell them that, they'll steal your snipes!" LOL! Not something I'm worried about. There are always hundreds of people sniping at a time. I'd rather help people become successful then worry about them stealing my snipes.

Secret Laboratory Maps
Piece of a Treasure Map
Spooky Treasure Map
Nerkmids
Paint Brushes
Morphing Potions
Transmogrification Potions
Avatar items (ex: bag of peanuts, snorkle snout, pinatas)
Anything Tarla gives out, right after she gives it out
Codestones
Dubloons
Neggs
Bottled Faeries

A few more tips!
-Advent Calendar Items: Sometimes, the advent calendar will give out 'good' items that are good to snipe on the day they are being given out. Examples are petpets, PBs, wearable items, books...things that are usually easy to sell anyway, but sometimes go for a higher price.
-Trick or Treat Bags: You've got to be super quick, but on Halloween, when TNT releases the trick or treat bags, MANY people underprice them. But everyone is going to be trying to snipe them, so you've REALLY got to be quick. Even I miss a lot of these, and I consider myself a pretty good sniper.
With the exception of Hard to Sell (HTS) items, any items are good for sniping, since anything can be mispriced. Just pick and item and refresh!
The items that are mispriced the most are those that are given out from random events and dailies.

A note about sniping and selling items: Some items are easier to sell than others. The items I listed are generally easy to sell. Potions may be a LITTLE more difficult, but generally, that list contains items you shouldn't have a hard time getting rid of. BUT, if you come across an item in your searching (Like a TCG for example) that is priced really low, that doesn't seem to be a common item, it may be hard to sell (HTS) and best left right where it is. TCGs are hard to sell, as well as some plushies and food items. It just takes a bit of practice and research to learn which items are best.

This page has some examples of my snipes. This is by no means all of my snipes. I just screenied a few to use as examples. :D

And that's about it! :) Don't get discouraged if you don't find anything good right away. Sniping requires a lot of patience. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a neomail. I'll be glad to help out!
