The Introduction

Every story has a beginning

A shadow fell upon the edge of the cliff, further blackening the dense blanket of night covering the forest of Irie. To the west lay a small city, all light dim and unable to shed itself through the void-like state of the region. A river by the name of Tresse traveled silently and gently to the east, somehow reminding all who passed it of a mother lovingly embracing her newborn child. As the river caressed the cliff, leaves rustled abnormally on the ground above. Someone was approaching the top. A cloaked figure strode across to the edge, feet crunching the debris beneath him. He settled on the ledge, seemingly waiting for something. Soon after another somewhat muffled pair of footsteps ensued. A smaller and slighter figure clothed in the same dark cloak flowed gracefully across the leaves of fall.

It took you long enough," the first cloaked one remarked, but not without an affectionate undertone. Sensing it was safe, he removed his hood, and his short dark brown hair began waving in the wind. He trained his gray eyes on the figure opposite to him as it began to pull down it's hood. Her face was as angelic as her movements. She pushed a lock of her long wavy golden hair away from her sapphire eyes, beautiful but with a glimse of hidden intent visible behind them. As more black blurs flashed onto the place called Shadow's Edge, the meeting began.

The resistance is growing stronger", the male started. "If we don't stop it soon, anything we do will be to no avail. That is why our leader has chosen a squad to invade Luans, to follow groups returning to their base and reveal its location."

How are we supposedly going to find them?" one member of the crowd asked.

Our closest link....is the spy behind that bush." Two large men pulled a kicking screaming figure from it's hiding place.

Kalla?" He motioned to the second arrived girl at his side.

I thought you'd never ask, Shenn," she said, then grinned in a way unfitting to her face. She skipped over to the person being held captive and whispered in it's ear. "You're in for a whole new level of pain if you don't give us what we want." She stepped back, the blue fire in her eyes revealing her eagerness for the round of torture to come.

The Story of Baelai

The Plot

The land of Baelai, many differences rest between our world and theirs. Magic existed in clans spread throughout the region who worked together to create a peaceful community, especially in the city of Illia, where many people not related to them lived. The clans each possessed abilities coordinating to their names. These tribes consisted of Sylas (air clan), Farora (fire clan), Celier (water clan), Dayora (earth clan), Luans (light clan), Boruli (blood clan), Erydian (shadow clan), and Daero (death clan). Throughout the territories tranquility was to be found, even within the range of the sacred stones, each containing the wrath of their nation's power. Then, it all changed. A dispute between the power of multiple clans occurred; some wanted continued separate unity of the clans, some hungered for only one clan to rule over all, to rid the world of all disagreements and different views. As the clans debated, they didn't realize that a few of the tribes had already become one for the latter. The new force, composed of blood, death, half of fire and water, and a quarter of air attacked the remainders of the clans, annihilating them with superior strength.

Four Years Later...

The great new clan of Sukelle is now governing Baelai. To citizens of Illia barely anything has changed, but the clans have been torn apart. The nomadic air tribe has suffered the least amount of damage, mostly due to their constant wandering and lack of participation in the war. However, their stone has been taken, leaving a feeling of emptiness in their society. Farora and Celier, having been halved by traitors, has banded together to make themselves stronger; they have drifted to around three-fourths of their new force, losing both of their crystals in battle. Earth has lost half of both it's military and tree homes as well as it's gem. The elusive shadow is destroyed. The few that have escaped are hidden in solitude with the shadow stone, yet to be found. Luans is down to a third of it's former glory, it is the next target and the light crystal isn't very well hidden.

The survivors have started to band together. Dayora and Luans are traveling to make an alliance with each other as well as some groups of Sylas. Sukelle has begun to realize the potential threat of the clans and is taking immediate precautions. The time for another great war has come. The outcome is for you to decide. Will you side with Sukelle or join the rebellion?

Clan Descriptions

At the moment, I only have very basic information on the clans due to laziness. As time goes on I'll update this part to give a more full description.

Sylas

Way of Life: This clan tends to roam around in small groups or "families"; Some even prefer complete solitude.

Towns: Air doesn't have any permanent homes or towns except for the capital, which very few people settle in. They often live in tents and some the open sky.

Dayora

Way of Life: Completely in tune with nature, the members of this nation depend on the forest itself, loathing the technology of others because of the damage it does. It is said that they can speak to animals.

Towns: Dayora members prefer not to build their villages in clearings, but in trees. Many people from all over the world come to visit these works of art.

Farora

Way of Life: The fiery people of Farora undergo training at a very young age to withstand both the burning heat of flames and attackers. Their spirit and passion is their strongest quality.

Towns: The eldest people tend to settle near the volcano in which they worship, Ceiabyr. The younger live away from Ceiabyr in preparation for their future journey to it, which marks the beginning of their adulthood. Farora members live in caves or houses they fashion with the help of flames.

Celier

Way of Life: The basis of their power water, Celier trains not the body, but the mind while learning to use their abilities. They are bound by their word.

Towns: These people build their villages on water, which helps to protect them from an attack. Their buildings often extend under water.

Luans

Way of Life: As the strongest clan, Luans has the most influence on the city of Illia. Its people are very kind and giving, and look down upon those who break the law. They travel once a year to celebrate "Areyo Däyu", "The Beginning of the World", at their capital.

Towns: Farm land and small villages are frequently the only thing to be seen on the Luans plains. Their capital city is one of the most beautiful sights imaginable despite being the most populated (a golden city adorned with rubies settled close to a lake).

Erydian

Way of Life: There are three groups in the land of Shadows. Depending on which they are brought up in, the people have different strengths and beliefs. Despite being the smallest tribe, they are among the strongest.

Towns: Each home differs to the group it belongs to. The following family and territories are:
Terra- Plains (tents and other temporary homes)
Aleas- Forest (holes dug into underground homes)
Dueli- Mountains (mostly caves)
The groups communicate as if they are one and often trade with each other; this allows them to work together should war break out. However, since the war ended they have all banded together in one place.

Boruli

Way of Life: These people are, in a way, the most technologically advanced of the civilizations. They sacrifice a certain amount of their own blood to develop whatever they desire. This allows instantaneous food, water, weapons, etc. All items made using blood magic are the same red color.

Towns: Using blood, Boruli members can make almost any building imaginable. They (the buildings) tend to be a darker dried red color. The people often live near blood ponds.

Daero

Way of Life: Their land not very inhabitable, Daero sacrifices to continue it's existance. Any human sacrifices are considered honorable and for a good cause, but mostly they are the few animals available there. The people mark themselves with the symbol of the dead at birth, and it allows them to control demons and the deceased. Unfortunately, it makes them easily identifiable.

Towns: Their homes consist of domes made of dirt, tents, or the occasional house of dead wood.

What's Happened so Far

This is where a summary of what has happened so far in the roleplay goes. This is mainly for new members and those who've been gone for a while so they can catch up without having to ask any questions.

Unfortunately nothing is here yet, as the roleplay hasn't started. :(
