Using your mouse, aim the princess's grappling hook at the cliff ledge you want her to climb.

Once you've taken aim, click your mouse's button on the spot where you want the grappling hook to land.

As soon as you click your mouse, start aiming for the next ledge!

Keep aiming and clicking until the princess has reached the very top of the level.



My Instructions

The point of this game is to get to the top of the screen using a grappling hook to propel you upwards.

The compass points in the direction of where your mouse is located on the screen. Moving it left or right will change which way the compass points. The compass (and the mouse's location horizontally) depicts which way your hook will fly.

Here's a Neomail I sent to someone explaining my strategy:
I usually click in the same spot vertically (that is, I don't usually move my mouse up and down), but I move my mouse according to where the ledges are. Say there's a ledge on the left side of the screen, and the character is on the right. I move my mouse left, because the position of the mouse has to do with which direction the character goes and how far. Try clicking farther to the right or left, depending on which direction the ledges are instead of clicking on the actual ledges, and remember DO NOT click if the character is above your mose!
I focus on the area layed out by the yellow rectangle in the image to the left. Most of my shots are there, and my eyesight only strays if there are no ledges to grab.

Hit the left mouse button once and only once, because if you shoot rapidly then the hook will NOT catch.

For some people, just using the mouse doesn't work. If you're one of these people, the game is slightly harder for you because you have to keep your eye on both the compass and the ledges where the character is.



Miscellaneous Information

  • There are three types of terrain: plant, rock, and snow.
  • The levels grow longer the more you play.
  • You can turn the sound off, but there is no way to do so when in the game.
  • The game is under "Hardest Games" and "action"
  • A score of at least 250 (as of 2-26-08) will get you 1k.
  • You cannot get to this game from the Shenkuu map.
  • To complete each level, you have to shoot higher than the top of the mountain (corrected by tris53).
  • Don't shoot after you fall, or else you'll lose the score you've accumulated from that level (thanks flutterby__kisses)
  • The higher up the Princess is on the screen, the more vertical your shots have to be. Meaning, after you stop flying upwards, always shoot for ledges above you (thanks soday).
  • To skip the fireworks, hit the spacebar (thanks larry678905).
Strategy
You will find combinations of ledges after a while of playing. These can be really tricky, but there aren't so many of them, and you start recognizing them.

Large Gaps: When you have a ledge at the very top of your window, and one closer to the bottom, you can keep grabbing the lower ledge to 'shimmy' to one side enough so that you can grab the ledge at the top of the window.

Coupled Ledges: This happens when one is right on top of another, and you grab the bottom one instead of the top one. If you REALLY want to grab that other ledge you can wait until you drop down low to grab it and jump higher, but this only works if they don't go below your window.

Peeking Ledges: You see maybe five pixels of a ledge at the top of your window. This is a legitimate ledge! Watch Out: After a few experiences, I should warn you that these don't always let you grab them, so if there is a lower ledge, by all means take it.

Hi, sorry, but I read your guide, and still can't figure out exactly what I am doing. I can get her to the first ledge, but then what? All she does is fly around and then fall back down. I click until my finger hurts, and I am still at 0 points on level 1. What am I doing wrong? Thank you for any help you can give!
Make sure you click only once, or else your hook won't grab onto the ledges. I think that the strategy guide to the game is very good, but I believe you have made a mistake. If you click only by the mouse on the screen, your grappling hook won't go in the right direction, at least not for me. I have to go by the compass, which shows which direction the grappling hook will go from the warrior. I don't know if this is the same for other people, but if I played only by the mouse and not the compass, I would get to all of 13 points.
Sometimes when the game acts differently for you, you have to watch both the compass and the character. For me the hookshot always shoots towards my mouse, so this hasn't been a problem. If it is for you, please Neomail me so I can find out how many people have to play this way!
